This Cat May Have Given Up One Of Their Nine Lives.

A cat in Chicago is living to see another day after surviving a fivestory

jump.

Fire

Department was responding to a fire that broke out at an apartment building in mid-May when they saw a black cat appear through smoke at a broken window. The cat frantically tested the side of the blazing building with its paws when it decided to jump out the window to save itself.

The cat missed a wall as it jumped to freedom and landed safely on all four paws in grass where it sprang up to run away. Thankfully, no one was injured during the blaze, furry and human. That can’t be said about the building itself.

The Show Will Go On! It’s time to get back to the shows and with Broadway announcing their upcoming season in September, it’s time for Vegas to get back into the business of entertainment. Las Vegas is coming back stronger than ever. First up, we have the ladies coming in strong with the newest list of performers getting residencies; Katy Perry & Carrie Underwood were announced at the beginning of May to start in late December - beginning of January at The Theatre at Resorts World. Also, heading over to The Theatre will be Luke Bryan, who you can catch February 2022.

And you don’t have to wait until December to catch a show; Bruno Mars will be kicking off the summer season Fourth of July Weekend at Park Theater at Park MGM followed by Usher at The Colosseum at Caesar’s Palace with various dates from July - January. Keep an eye out in the news for more stars to come 6

School’s out for summer! We know that many of you would love to bring your kids over during the summer break. Please remember that in order for them to be in Golden Bingo Family Halls, they must be playing with a package and with an adult. Don’t forget to post on social media all of the wonderful family time you’ll be taking in. Yes, we have lifted our mask requirement, however please stay active in keeping everything safe. Wash your hands often, still remain as distant as possible from people that don’t live with you. If you still want to wear a mask, by all means go for it!

- It’s Allergy Season!

Let’s go into this allergy season equipped with all the help!

It’s that time of the year again, here in Texas it feels like we never got over last year’s allergy season and then pair it with flu, cold, and COVID outbreaks. Are you feeling like this year is harder than Spring/ Summer 2020? You’re not going crazy. It’s not just you and not in your head, well the pressure may be.

Let’s take a look at why allergists are saying this year may be the worst allergy year to date.

With temperatures rising, the atmosphere is making pollen seasons heavier and longer. When allergists have looked at historical records compared to 1990, we are dealing with 10 days longer and 21% more pollen from trees, grass, and weeds. The more pollen the more you have to catch your nose and answer the question why your eyes are so red. Because we’re dealing with an earlier warm weather, pollen is getting released earlier and on the flip side, fall nis happening much later in the year. This allows flowering plants like ragweed to keep going strong throughout the year.

We didn’t feel allergy season so bad last year because we were mostly inside and wearing masks when we did go outside. Now that we’re vaccinated and living our best lives outside, at times without a mask (depending on your comfort level at the time of this article being written mask mandates just got lifted).

So while last year was bad, you haven’t been out in a while. Make sure you load up on saline spray and vaporub.

Are you feeling like this year is harder than Spring/ Speaking of which, there’s help out there! Make sure you continue to wash your hands like we did at the beginning of quarantine. Are you surprised at how much you weren’t watching your hands? Make sure that you continue to wash your hands and your clothes if you’ve been out mowing the lawn or doing activities. Continue to watch for poor air-quality days and limit your times outdoors if you can on these days. You may also want to change out your contact lenses for eyeglasses during this time because the pollen can stick to the lenses. Continue to clean your lenses. Vacuum as much as you can to get rid of the allergens that are trapped in your carpet.

And if none of this works - go to your allergist or primary care physician to get those heavy duty medications that aren’t sold at your pharmacy.

The idea behind honey treating allergies is similar to that of a person getting allergy shots. But while allergy shots have been proven to be effective, honey hasn’t.

When a person eats local honey, they are thought to be ingesting local pollen.

Over time, a person may become less sensitive to this pollen. As a result, they may experience fewer seasonal allergy symptoms.

It’s true that bees pollinate flowers and make honey. But the amounts of pollen from the environment and plants are thought to be very small and varied. When a person eats local honey, they have no guarantee how much (if any) pollen they’re being exposed to. This differs from allergy shots that purposefully desensitize a person to pollen at standard measurements.

by MORGAN SIGLER Summer is finally here and that means lots of time spent around pools and other bodies of water. I mean we do live in South Texas y’all... it’s a million degrees! As excited as I am to jump in the pool, I am just as nervous about my children being by the water. I know we have covered this topic before, but I feel like it is important enough to touch base again. Even if you have read these tips before, it could not hurt to refresh your memory. It could save your child's life.

The Hard Facts

Among preventable injuries, drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1 – 4 years old.

Children 1 – 4 years old are more likely to drown in a pool. Children 5 years and older are more likely to drown in natural water, such as ponds, lakes and rivers.

Top Life Saving Tips • Watch kids when they are in or around water, without being distracted.

• Keep young children within arm’s reach of an adult.

Make sure older children swim with a partner every time.

• Teach children how to swim. Every child is different, so enroll children in swim lessons when they are ready. Consider their age, development and how often they are around water.

• Teach children that swimming in open water is not the same as swimming in a pool. They need to be aware of uneven surfaces, river currents, ocean undertow and changing weather.

Make sure kids learn how to swim and develop these five water survival skills: 1. Step or jump into water over their heads and return to the surface

2. Float or tread water for one minute 3. Turn around in a full circle and find an exit 4. Swim 25 yards to exit the water 5. Exit the water. If in a pool, be able to exit without using the ladder

Know what to do in an emergency. Learning CPR and basic water rescue skills may help you save a child’s life.

Full of flavor, plenty of meat on the bone, and they were cooked perfectly! My sauces were the garlic butter Parmesan (wow!), and the bourbon glaze. Both incredible flavors. Pickup was super easy. They've got a drive though where you can pick up your call ahead orders. Staff was friendly as well. Will be a regular for sure!
