Our Charitable Honoree this year is Haven for Hope, and our grand marshal is thriving Texas country music artist Randy Rogers, who has been chosen for his incredible commitment to Texas country music culture and his philanthropic ventures. This evening you will see floats representing some of the many children’s charities that the Cavaliers support through The Texas Cavalier Charitable Fondation. Please, join me in celebrating the hard work that all these organizations do in making San Antonio a better place to live. This year the Texas Cavaliers charitable foundation will provide grants to 83 local children’s charities totaling $2,000,000.You will see many of these charities represented on floats here tonight. Your support of the Texas Cavaliers River Parade helps to make these grants possible, thank you for your generous support of the children of our community. As a part of the core mission of the Cavaliers we honor the brave men and women that serve in our Armed Forces. They represent the best of our nation. Welcome and Viva Fiesta! This year marks the 77th Texas Cavaliers River Parade, a long-standing Fiesta tradition that continues to evolve and entertain hundreds of thousands of Texans each year. “Texas Al Fresco”, or Texas Outdoors, is the theme of this year’s River Parade. Celebrating our Texas outdoor quality of life and education. The value of outdoor experiences has never been more important and appreciated than during these challenging times. From proven mental and physical health benefits, to improved relationships and active leadership lesson opportunities, the Texas outdoors will continue to be utilized, cherished, and preserved for future generations. Ranging from the mountains of Big Bend to the Gulf of Mexico on to the San Antonio River, Texas has a vast variety of landscapes and experiences for everyone to enjoy the great Texas outdoors. The Texas Al Fresco theme has been woven into each of the over 50 professionally decorated, fun and festive floats featuring local community groups, many of our selected children’s charities, celebrities, and local officials. Each year, we choose one of our selected charities to be our “Charitable Honoree”, an honor that includes additional promotion and a substantial financial gift. The 2022 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Charitable Honoree is Haven for Hope. The stewardship and thought behind which charity is selected is never taken lightly and is one of our organization’s greatest responsibilities. The more we have learned about the challenges around homelessness; how it affects individuals, families, and children, the more our passion and desire has grown to partner with Haven for Hope to make a difference. With between 200 to 300 homeless children living at Haven for Hope at any given time, nothing speaks more to our Cavalier Charitable Foundation charter of serving the Children of Texas than to honor and recognize Haven for Hope as our Charitable Honoree. Once more, one of the most inspiring leaders in our community has come alongside the Texas Cavaliers in this effort - Susan Naylor Sellers. We are so thankful to her for sharing our concerns about homelessness and homeless children. Susan, mother of Will and founder of the Will Smith Foundation, generously offered to match our fundraising efforts up to $500,000. Without her involvement, we wouldn’t be able to help all of the important organizations that depend on our funding. From this momentum created by her support, we were able to present our Charitable Honoree, Haven for Hope, with another record-setting grant of $1,200,000! I would like to personally thank my wife Jill, and my three sons, Kyle, Keller, and Caleb for their support and assistance to fulfill my parade duties. I can’t imagine managing this project without their help and ideas. I also greatly appreciate the many hours of support from River Parade Vice Marshal Greg Seay and Parade Operations Officer Jonathan Dear and most importantly, their friendship. There are many others, including Texas Cavalier Board Members, River Parade Chairman and Assistants, volunteers and sponsors alike that deserve our greatest thanks. GRAND MARSHAL RANDY ROGERS Country music fans in Texas and beyond have become more than familiar with Randy Rogers’ name over the past 20 years, during which the singer has cemented himself as part of the Lone Star State’s thriving Country music culture alongside his band, the Randy Rogers Band. The group, founded San Marcos, Texas, is composed of Randy Rogers, Geoffrey Hill, Jon Richardson, Brady Black, Les Lawless, and Todd Stewart. Together for nearly 20 years with all original members still on the roster, the Randy Rogers Band is more than a band, it’s a brotherhood. Committed to making music, which they view as their life’s calling, the band brings together each member’s unique contribution to form a fully compelling sound.

Founded in Texas, the Randy Rogers Band has grown its fanbase to a national level, playing sold-out high-energy shows across the United States. The group released its first studio album, Like It Used to Be, in 2002. Since then, they have given fans seven more projects and scored global streaming numbers in the hundreds of millions, charting seven singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart and numerous #1 songs on Texas Country Radio. Rogers has scored six Top 10 albums on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart, five with his band and one with Wade Bowen. The Randy Rogers Band is currently gearing up to release their ninth studio album this year, which was launched with lead single “Picture Frames” in October 2021. The project will follow 2019’s HELLBENT, which was produced by Grammy winner Dave Cobb and recorded in Nashville’s legendary RCA Studio A. With their new project arriving soon, the group will only continue to cement its two-decades and counting legacy. Along with the Randy Rogers Band’s accomplishments, Rogers has worked on several collaborative projects including partnering with his friend Wade Bowen on the Hold My Beer projects, teamed with his mentor and Texas legend Robert Earl Keen as the Stryker Brothers and joined Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker to sing on Michael Martin Murphey’s Austinology album. Aside from music, Rogers co-owns multiple venues in the Lone Star State including Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos, Texas. In September 2021, he launched his new whiskey brand, Bahnbrëcker, the world’s first Hefeweizen-style whiskey. The drink was inspired by an ideal Texas summer day spent floating down the river in New Braunfels, Texas. He is also involved in multiple philanthropic ventures including the Randy Rogers Band’s annual The Randy Rogers Band Charity Golf Jam & Tournament, which celebrated its first year in 2009 and raises funds for charities around the country. Rogers also established the Randy Rogers Family Foundation, created to direct donations to charities with which the singer is affiliated. Rogers’ love for his home state shines through in every venture he takes on, making his selection as the 2022 Honorary Grand Marshal of the 2022 Texas Cavaliers River Parade a Lone Star certainty

CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

Launched in 1996 in an effort to provide an unforgettable event of fun and food for children, including some with special needs, the Texas Cavaliers’ Children’s Program has to date provided over 20,000 children with dinner and reserved seating at the River Parade. Through the generous underwriting of the Texas Cavaliers and local businesses, this year, over 931 children from 15 participating charitable organizations are enjoying the river parade. At Haven for Hope, our mission is to offer a place of hope and new beginnings for individuals and families with children who are experiencing homelessness. We are not a shelter, we are a transformational campus. Far beyond providing food, clothing and shelter, Haven for Hope combats the root causes of homelessness, with dozens of partner agencies providing the services in a “one-stop” setting, and all working together to help our members return to independent, productive and happy lives. And since opening in 2010, Haven for Hope has helped thousands of individuals transition from being homeless to living in permanent or supportive housing.

There are typically 200 children on our campus at any given time, who range in age from infants to teenagers. We provide opportunities for them to regain a sense of normalcy and recover from the trauma of homelessness. There are numerous educational, recreational and therapeutic programs for children of every age. Most importantly, Haven staff members make sure the children know they are loved. And, we hope everyone in our city can take comfort in knowing that Haven for Hope NEVER turns away a family with children -- even if we are at maximum capacity.

Float X Military 4th Reconnaissance Battalion

Whether they are fighting the floodwaters of hurricanes or braving the sands of Iraq, the 4th Reconnaissance Battalion has represented the United States and the city of San Antonio with exceptional capabilities in all aspects of military operations. This elite battalion traces its roots back to the formation of the 4th Marine Division in WWII to the sands of Iwo Jima where the Division fought its first fight. The primary mission of the Battalion is to conduct amphibious reconnaissance and other specialized tasks in support of the Marine Air Ground Task Force throughout the execution of numerous military operations. There are four companies stationed around the country as well as one Detachment in Hawaii. The Battalion and two additional companies are stationed right here in San Antonio. The Battalion has fought in every major U.S. Campaign since WWII and continues to serve around the globe today. Participants: Identity Secret No Federal Endorsment Implied

Serving as the 2022 River Parade Honor Guard is Game Warden David Nieto and Park Police Member Brady Wise. Texas Game Wardens help to manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and ensure hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. The San Antonio Park Police are dedicated Law Enforcement professionals united in their commitment of service to the community. They provide assistance to the public, preserve the peace, protect life and property in more than 18,000 acres of park lands in over 200 city-owned parks and other facilities.

No. 2 King Antonio XCIX (99th) Barton T. Simpson

King Antonio XCIX Barton T. Simpson was honored to be crowned the 99th King of the Texas Cavaliers in a ceremony in front of the Alamo earlier this week. Serving as King, he will have the privilege of continuing the organization’s mission to provide opportunities for children, presenting more than $2,000,000 dollars to local children’s charities. Since its founding in 1989, the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation has distributed more than $10 million dollars to the children of San Antonio. Fiesta as a celebration of the diverse culture of our community has been a tradition in Bart’s family, and extended family, throughout his life. His family has a long tradition of service to the San Antonio community, Texas and the military. They are direct descendants of Spanish Canary Islanders that helped settle San Antonio and laid the cornerstone at San Fernando Cathedral. His family has called San Antonio home for 15 generations. Bart is a graduate of Baylor University and is currently President of Simpson Development where he manages real estate and investment interests. He and his beautiful wife, Marnie, are parents to two daughters and one grandson. Throughout the years, he has served on numerous committees and boards, and developed multiple real estate projects in San Antonio and South Texas. During his reign, King Antonio and his fellow Cavaliers will visit schools, military bases, hospitals, charitable organizations and other Fiesta events continuing to celebrate the diversity of our city as well as their mission to support and benefit the children of San Antonio.

No. 3 Grand Marshal and Art Contest Winner Honorary Grand Marshal Randy Rogers Sponsor: H-E-B

Known throughout the world as a top country singer for more than 20 years, Randy Rogers and his band, The Randy Rogers Band, have delivered numerous number one hits securing their spot as a top contributor to Texas’s thriving country music scene. The 2022 Military Fiesta Ambassadors represent the six military service branches and promote the military’s commitment to and relationship with local communities, fostering positive community relations. 2022 STUDENT ART CONTEST

The spirit and celebration of the 77th Texas Cavaliers River Parade was captured by the art of the children of San Antonio. This year, there were 1,023 entries from 47 elementary schools representing all 10 participating city council districts as well as a Bexar County finalist. These talented students’ assignment was to bring to life in their art classes the joy of fiesta and their interpretation of this year’s River Parade theme --- “Texas Al Fresco”, or “Texas Outdoors”, celebrating our Texas outdoor quality of life and education. This year’s grand prize winner is Sofia Liceaga, a 5th grader at Bob Lewis Elementary, Northside ISD. As the grand prize winner, Sofia’s school’s art program will receive $5,000 from the Texas Cavaliers Charitable Foundation. In addition, Sofia’s artwork is featured on the cover of this program, and she is riding tonight on a float with our honorary Grand Marshal, chart-topping,Texas Country mainstay, Randy Rogers. Sofia also won a one-week scholarship to the Southwest School of Art’s Summer Camp, and Whataburger for a year. Congratulations Sofia for being the “Grand Prize Winner” of the Texas Cavaliers Art Contest! The other ten finalists were each awarded $3,000 for their school’s art program and a one-week scholarship to the Southwest School of Art’s Summer Camp. Due to the strong participation of schools around the city, a runner up category was added and the winners received a $1,000 check for their respective art programs. As part of this program, the Texas Cavaliers awarded $46,000 to school art programs in our community. The entries, which illustrated the theme of this year’s parade, were judged by local artists: Caroline and William Carrington, Southwest School of Art Director of Young Artist Programs, Patricia Morales, and Marianne Dowdy representing Emily Ann’s Family Foundation. Many thanks to the judging panel for all of their hard work.

The Texas Cavaliers enjoy a strong and proud relationship with all of the branches of the U.S. Military and that relationship has always been a cornerstone of our organization since its inception. The Texas Cavaliers recognize the extraordinary sacrifices that each of you and your families have made to serve our nation. We realize that you are not recognized in relations to the impact of your service to our Country and the freedoms we take for granted. We understand and appreciate that many of you have missed significant and important occasions in your lives as the result of your military commitments and obligations. We honor those costs of service and sacrifice. Our organization acknowledges your many sacrifices as extraordinary and indicative of your faithful service and that your military commitment to our country is a great calling in life. For the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces - especially those wounded in defense of our nation - The gratitude and support of our community are essential parts of our soldiers returning home. The Texas Cavaliers military Fiesta began in 2003 and is now in its 20th year. Originally for Wounded Warriors and their families, the program has been extended to other active-duty members and their families while continuing to work closely with the Warrior and Family Support Center. Over 1,500 active-duty service members and their families are expected to attend this year’s Military Fiesta. Our guests include wounded warriors from San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC) - along with their families and caregivers. Also in attendance tonight are fellow military personnel from Fort Sam Houston, Lackland AFB, Randolph Air Force Base as well as students from Fort Sam Houston Independent School District, Lackland Independent School District, and Randolph Field Independent School District. In addition to tickets, the military members are provided pre-parade entertainment, a delicious meal courtesy of Whataburger, sodas and bottled water graciously donated by St. Anthony Hotel and Sooner Coca-Cola Bottling Co., delicious ice cream provided by Blue Bell Creameries and an official 2022 King’s medal. For the 20th consecutive year, IBC bank has graciously provided their Plaza to accommodate this year’s Military Fiesta Program.

PARADE JUDGES WAYNE BROOKS PRCA ANNOUNCER As a PRCA announcer, Wayne Brooks brings an enthusiasm to the sport enjoyed by thousands across the nation. Like many announcers, his rodeo career began in the arena as a contestant. While competing in the roughstock events, he gained an insight into the sport — which he presents to the audience to make them truly a part of each performance. His broadcasting background has proven invaluable in rodeo promotion and sponsor recognition. Combining these experiences,Wayne creates an announcing style that is both informative and entertaining.Whether it’s wild and western or polished and professional; it’s excitement at its best! A PRCA Member since 1994, Wayne has had the honor of being chosen Announcer of the Year five times. Further, he has been selected as one of the Wrangler National Finals announcers nine times, where he’s had the pleasure to work alongside Bob Tallman, Randy Corley, and Boyd Polhamus. In his National Finals Steer Roping debut in 2000, he worked with the legendary Clem McSpadden. He has the distinct privilege to have announced the National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Pocatello, Idaho; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Kissimmee, Florida.Wayne considers himself fortunate he has worked with the best in the business at these esteemed events.

When he’s not announcing rodeos, Wayne serves as a commercial voice talent. He and his wife, Melanie, have a son, Ace; two married daughters, Taylor (Austin) and Sheridan (Kyle); and the most perfect granddaughter, Lucy! Although they travel across the United States and Canada, they make their home in Lampasas,Texas.

CRIS DASKEVICH CEO – THE CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL OF SAN ANTONIO Cris joined The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio as CEO just over three years ago. She is proud to lead an amazing team of 1600 nurses and Associates and 200 pediatric and women’s specialists affiliated with the hospital’s academic partner, Baylor College of Medicine. Prior to coming to San Antonio, Cris was a Senior Vice President at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) in Houston with executive responsibility for Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women, Texas Children’s Women’s Specialists, Government Relations and Global Health to name a few. Cris is actively involved in numerous professional organizations including the Education Committee of the Children’s Hospital Association (CHA) and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Texas Hospital Association (THA). She is also a member of the Maternal Child Health Council, the Regional Policy Board 7 of the American Hospital Association (AHA). Locally, Cris is a member of the board of directors for Haven For Hope. Cris and her husband, Phillip are proud to call San Antonio home with their two children, Caroline and Dillon.As a family, they enjoy vacationing in the great outdoors - hiking, snow skiing, biking, fishing, and hunting.

DAVID ELDER TEXAS EATS HOST, SA LIVE MULTIMEDIA JOURNALIST David Elder is the host of the San Antonio food show, Texas Eats. The social media segment, Elder Eats, dominated in Central and South Texas in 2017, 2018, and 2019, with more than 18 videos receiving more than 1 million views each! The whole first season of Elder Eats is available to watch on the KSAT TV app on your Roku streaming device. David’s passion for food started at a young age, learning cooking techniques and recipes from his mother. His first job in high school was at a popular Texas BBQ chain.The bustling pace and energy of the kitchen inspired David to work in an upscale, award-winning Hill Country Bistro and vineyard. He started as a cold-side cook, preparing salads and appetizers, moved to sauté chef, and was promoted to head grill chef at the age of 19. The kitchen experience David gained ingrained essential cooking fundamentals and a working knowledge of American cuisine. David worked both back of house and front of house positions in restaurants across Central Texas, learning how to serve guests and create unforgettable dining experiences. David Elder is also an award-winning graphic designer and web designer working for top companies and nonprofits in the San Antonio area. David went to high school in New Braunfels,Texas. He moved to San Antonio to attend the San Antonio College for Web Design & Graphic Design and the University of Texas in San Antonio for Marketing. David started working for KSAT 12 in the summer of 2015 as a Graphics Coordinator and is now a Multimedia Journalist for SA Live, host of Elder Eats and host of Texas Eats.

RANDY CORLEY PRCA ANNOUNCER Randy started announcing rodeos in 1978 after graduating from broadcast school in Seattle,WA. He has been named Pro Rodeo’s Announcer of the Year 12 times and 2021 was the 21st time he was selected to announce the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, NV. Randy has worked many of the top rodeos around the United States including the prestigious San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo for the last 24 or 25 years. His wife, Michelle, travels with him and serves as a timer at many of those rodeos, including San Antonio. In 2021, she was named the Timer of the Year for Pro Rodeo.

The First Responders Program was launched in 2011 to honor and thank the hardworking men and women of local police and fire departments who risk their lives to protect ours. As the only Children’s Advocacy Center in Bexar County, our mission is to restore dignity, hope, and trust to children traumatized by abuse and neglect.

We are the first stop for children entering the justice system because of suspected sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, or those who have witnessed a violent crime. Our services include forensic interviews, crisis intervention, case management, family advocacy, clinical therapy, and child abuse prevention trainings.

Our MISSION is to help families, fund research, and raise awareness for DIPG and pediatric cancer. Gabriella’s Smile Foundation is named after Gabriella Elise Torres, who was 5 when she battled Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a terminal form of brain cancer.

What We Do

Girls on the Run is an afterschool program like no other! Twice per week for 10 weeks, girls of all abilities learn important life skills, have fun, make friends, and increase their physical activity levels. Good Samaritan Community Services (Good Sam) was established in 1951 by the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas, under the leadership of Bishop Everett Jones. It began as a downtown mission of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. We provide comprehensive services to more than 3,500 individuals and 1,200 families in various locations in South and West Texas. SAMMinistries, breaking the cycle of homelessness and poverty. For almost 40 years, SAMMinistries has transformed the lives of our neighbors experiencing homelessness and those at risk of becoming homeless, by providing stable housing and comprehensive wraparound services. Our programs include homeless prevention, street outreach, emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid re-housing, and supportive housing. Last fiscal year, we served almost 5,000 men, women, and children.

San Antonio Sports’ i play! afterschool program ignites a love of sport in third through fifth graders by providing participants skill-based instruction in five sports, while building confidence and self-esteem and teaching the importance of healthy habits, self-discipline, social skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. Kids receive training soccer, track, volleyball, basketball, tennis and each session ends with a tournament-style event. Each participant in i play! afterschool receives a backpack, t-shirt, shorts, socks and athletic shoes.
