2017 Football Booster Board of Directors Welcome Rattler Nation!

(Left to right) Rachel Calderon - Secretary, Julie Urrutia - Treasurer, Becky Espinoza - President, Sandra Lopez, 2nd Vice President (Sitting), Dolores Tijerina - Sgt. at Arms. Erica Marmolejo - 1st Vice President The 2017 SMHS Football Booster Club Board members welcome you to the 2017 Rattler Football season and the beginning of the centennial year celebration of San Marcos High School. We welcome our parents, alumni, business owners and members of the community that have come out to show their support. The 2017 football season has arrived, our boys and coaches have continued to work hard through the offseason and summer to ensure that they are “Rattler Ready” for our second season in Texas 6A football! We are excited to be playing our fourth season in our San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium! We would like to thank our Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Mark Soto and his staff for all their hard work and dedication to building a football program that instills the importance of qualities such as Character, Integrity, Resiliency, Honor, and Love. Coach Soto’s philosophy of “BUILDING CHARACTER FIRST” while producing EXCEPTIONAL YOUNG MEN all while creating a BROTHERHOOD that lasts a lifetime should make San Marcos proud. During the 2016 Rattler Football season, Coach Mark Soto implemented a new program for our Rattler Football Family called “Be a Pro,” his philosophy that it takes a village to raise a team has given birth to the Pro-Parent Breakfasts and Pro-Parent Volunteers. Rattler Football parents hosted three breakfasts during the 2016 season to support our student-athletes, and it recognizes Pro-Parent volunteers. The 2017 Rattler Football Parents will carry on this new tradition of “Being a Pro.” The objectives of “Being a Pro” is to: 1. Develop deeper meaningful relationships with your student-athletes, the coaches, and our team 2. Boost Morale of our student-athletes.

3. Develop conversation skills for parents and kids. 4. Encourage parental involvement in the booster club by volunteering and supporting the student athletes and the athletic program. This season’s motto is “STRIKE AS ONE.” This season our boys will play in unison with the common goal of post season play and ultimately reaching the state championship. Together, coaches, players, and rattler backers will come together as the RATTLER NATION and “STRIKE AS ONE!” This is the third year the Football Booster Club is managing concessions at Rattler Stadium. We are truly blessed to have Rudy Espinoza as our Concession Stand Manager. The football boosters have been working throughout the summer to get ready for the season. Band, Cheer, and Diamond Line will be involved in the running of concessions like last year. The revenue earned will enhance the sport or activity their children are involved in. We ask you to come out Friday nights and visit our concessions, where all proceeds stay in San Marcos. We offer special thanks to every organization at SMHS that have helped make the 2017 football season a success. This includes the Athletic Trainers, Student Council, JROTC program, Cheerleaders, Diamond Line, Rattler Band, SMHS Principal Dr. Bobbie Turnbo, all teachers, SMCISD Superintendent Michael Cardona, and Athletic Secretary Nan Arredondo. Also, thank you to Justin Pearson owner of SAN MARCOS BBQ for assisting with the Kick-Off BBQ, Don Moore with the SAN MARCOS DAILY RECORD for their hard work and commitment to this program. We would like to thank Electro Zuniga with ELECTRO’S POWER MIX and DJ Matthew Contreras for providing us with their DJ services for our tailgates and other events. Thank you to Tammy

Cuevas Alvarez with CUEVAS PRODUCE for your donations to Rattler Football. Thanks to Beatrice Moreno for heading up our 2016 Football Pro-Parent breakfasts and to all who assisted her. Thanks to all the businesses that donated to our breakfasts and to those who donated monetary donations to make these breakfasts possible and a great success! Also, would like to thank all our awesome Pro-Parent Volunteers who helped and supported our booster club throughout the football season and year, we couldn’t do it without all of your help! Special Thank You to our SMHS Football Booster Board of Directors: Erica Marmolejo-1st Vice President, Sandra Lopez-2nd Vice President, Rachel Calderon-Secretary, Julie Urrutia-Treasurer and Dolores Tijerina-Sargeant at Arms. I would like to thank this awesome group of ladies for the support they have given me and for all their hard work and dedication to Rattler Football! I would also like to thank all our families for allowing us to do what we do. So come early, stay late, be loud and proud and become a member of the Football Booster Club and Rattler Nation. Football Booster meetings are held on Mondays at 6:00 pm in the SAC during football season. To all current Football Booster Club members, Thank You for your support and hard work! Rattler Coaching Staff Mark Soto Athletic Director / Head Coach

Front (Left to right): Jalen, Christopher. Back(Left to right) : Juan, Virginia, Mark Soto, Jennifer Pineda, Richard, Olivia and Lisa Lopez

Our Rattler coaching staff would like to thank you for your support. Our kids are able to perform their best in San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium because of the FANATICAL energy you bring to the game. In the past five years our Rattler Athletic program has flourished in Texas using four covenants: 1. We have a passion to Build Character. 2. Effort is Everything. 3. Competition Breeds Success and finally 4. Having a Win Forever Attitude. Our program foundation is built on these four covenants. We believe our program reinforces your

family morals and values. It takes open communication, positive support, and volunteerism to move a program forward and with PRO (Persistent, Resilient, Over-Achieving) parents like you, we can give our kids the best environment in Texas. Our Program motto for this year is “Strike As One.” We feel this is a fitting motto going into the 14-6A district which includes Austin schools Bowie, Akins, Anderson along with Manor and Del Valle. Our kids are primed and ready to strike as one.

I’d like to invite you out to games to watch our kids perform to the best of their abilities in the best facility in the nation. Our Rattler NATION has great GRIT (Growth-Minded, Resiliency, Intensity, multiplied by Time). Parents have stepped up leading and sharing the work load in the concession stand along with running fundraisers and selling merchandise. Please find a way to volunteer with your booster clubs. As we always state, “it takes a village to raise a sports team.”

I would like to introduce you to my personal support system. I cannot thank them enough for the never-ending belief, support and love they bring to my life. Pictured are my parents Juan and Virginia Soto. My sister Lisa Lopez and her husband Richard along with their new baby Olivia and son Christopher. And finally my beautiful girlfriend Jennifer Pineda and her son Jalen. Thank you for bringing support and happiness to our lives.

The Road Ahead My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

The Football Booster Club would like to honor the life of San Marcos High School Custodian, Robert Rodriguez Sr. who lost his battle to cancer in June. Since the inaugural year of San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium, Robert was the keeper of the stadium. He spent countless hours ensuring that the stadium was ready to go for all sporting events held at the stadium. The countless hours led to the making of friendships and memories that will last us a lifetime. We will miss you Robert but, know you are watching over the stadium and us.

Forever in our Hearts, The SMHS Football Booster Club
