A MESSAGE FROM THE PUBLISHER
PUBLISHER MAC Publishing & Media Group, LLC
Congratulations! We’ve made through isolation, killer hornets and a Sarahan dust storm. Now, all we have to do is make through the next five months with an uptick in COVID-19 cases, an election, and trying to get reacquainted with our ‘new normal,’ which for all intents and purposes closely mirrors the “Twilight Zone.”

BUSINESS PROFILE
COOLING DOWN PROVIDENCE VILLAGE ONE WINDOW AT A TIME Running his own business, professionally engaging with his community, and operating out of his garage, it’s hard to believe Jeff Simmerman has only been running Providence Village Window Tint for a little over 3 months. When COVID-19 shut down the nation, business instantly slowed for Jeff, who was working as a tinter at AutoNation Ford Frisco. In a time of uncertainty, he took matters into his own hands, left Ford and pioneered his own venture. eff first started tinting at his uncle’s shop in Colorado Springs when he was 21. His mother had been the bookkeeper there for years, so he naturally joined the business once he was old enough. For three months, Jeff cleaned up the shop and was only allowed to observe the tinting process. He absorbed his environment and was eventually allowed to tint windows here and there, but only when absolutely necessary. Jeff loved tinting right off the bat. It allowed him to work with his hands and gave him a sense of accomplishment, an “I made that” feeling after a project was done. As he grew with the shop, he became one of the best tinters they had. Simmerman continued tinting in Colorado for ten years before moving to Texas. Born out of the struggles of the Coronavirus lockdown, Providence Village Window Tint is doing better than ever. Jeff started by offering free vehicle pick-up and delivery service for auto tinting so clients wouldn’t have to leave their homes during quarantine. He enjoys working out of his garage for its controlled environment. While heat and humidity affect the
tinting process differently in Texas than in Colorado, Jeff keeps a clean and organized space to ensure premium work. Providence Village Auto Tint isn’t just exclusively for autos. Jeff also services homes and businesses for window tinting. Like auto tinting, home and office tinting allows for privacy and cooler temps as well. Prior to finding his love of tinting, Jeff worked several different jobs. He has experience in the fast food industry, was as a bus boy, worked at a daycare and also for an organization that helps people with disabilities. However, once he discovered his joy for tinting vehicles and, mostly, serving his community, Jeff says, “It was the first time I felt accomplished at work.” His efforts began fulfilling him in a way it never had before. Jeff hopes to move out of his garage and into a larger facility one day, utilizing the qualities instilled in him by his uncle, who Jeff says was customer-focused and taught him everything he knows. For now, his primary focus is serving Providence Village with high quality tinting, paired with loyal, trustworthy business practices. “I want to serve this
community, integrate myself within and be a bigger part of it,” he says. Jeff’s mindset of high work quality and commitment to the community is what makes him an exceptional business owner and will contribute to the success of Providence Village Window Tint. Not only is he focused on maintaining a superior quality of work, but connecting with the community and building Jeff Simmerman relationships.

TIME TO PRIORITIZE! We often find ourselves wondering, “Am I making myself a top priority?” We’ve all asked this question before. Truth is, most of us don’t put our well-being first, or feel guilty when we do. But, we all know how much better we feel with a little self-care. Let’s be real… Are you even a second or third thought on the never-ending to-do list? If so, what are you actively doing to prioritize yourself? Are you eating nutritious foods, staying active and sleeping enough? Do you make time for your well-being, both mentally and physically? Are you finding a few minutes of quiet time throughout the day to just breathe? If you’re not, what is holding you back? Are you unable to “find” time? Does life throw too many distractions your way? Do you feel overwhelmed? Is work too demanding? We often find ourselves getting so caught up in everyday life that we
forget our own health should be a top priority. When we take care of ourselves, we not only feel great, but we can also be more present for our loved ones. We can’t be the best parent, best spouse or best friend when we’re not the best version of our own self. And guess what? It’s OKAY to love yourself! So, are you ready? Ready for change? Ready to start showing yourself some love? You must make the time, and you must be intentional about it. Here at Solar, we’ll help you do just that! We’ll guide you along the journey of becoming a healthier, happier version of yourself, to feel more energized throughout the day and sleep better at night, to help you boost your immune system and balance your hormones,
WELCOME TO JONNY’S PIZZA! My name is Jonny, and I am from Brooklyn, New York. I’ve been in the restaurant business all my life. I grew up in it. My father owned a pizzeria in Brooklyn, and I worked there as far back as I can remember. I started by putting together the pizza boxes and cleaning tables. I also cut a lot of vegetables and did anything I could to learn the business from the inside out. We are a local family owned business. I love what I do, most importantly, making great food for others and making them happy. All of our items are made from family recipes. Everything is fresh and made from scratch. In fact, we have no freezers! At Jonny’s, we love giving back and supporting our local community, including military, schools, first responders, sports teams and organizations. With an extended menu of pizza, pasta, calzones, salads and more, including vegan options and a kid’s menu, we have something for everyone! 8 - Providence Village Experience

AUGUST IS CHILDREN’S EYE HEALTH AND SAFETY MONTH As summer winds down and you scramble to get your children “back to school” ready, don’t forget the importance of healthy vision. As your child grows and changes from year to year, so do their eyes and their vision. School requires extreme visual involvement such as reading, writing, computer and whiteboard work. Even physical education and sports require strong vision. If your child is struggling to see well, they may feel tired or have trouble concentrating causing them to have problems in school. Here are five signs that your child may have vision problems: • Short attention span • Losing their place when reading • Avoiding reading and other close activities • Turning their head to the side • Squinting Your child’s eye health could determine how well they do in school. That’s why it is important to make sure they are getting regular eye exams with an optometrist that can fit them with the correct prescription lenses depending on their required needs. The earlier a vision problem is detected, the more successful your child will be-in and out of school. Call Woodlands Eyecare to schedule their appointment today, 940-365-0440.

Life''s Lemons Life On occasion, one has the privilege of meeng a bright shining star, a lovely human soul with so much light, joy and an infecous laugh to go with it. What was going to be a brief woman woman--owned business arcle, turned into something quite different when I had the chance to meet Keneithia “Keke” White. Last November, Keke lost her mom, and aer struggling through that darkness, she needed a radical change. She applied to be a flight aendant and got the job! Then COVID-19 hit. Keke didn’t really know what to do during the delay, so she started ordering bouque items. “I have an eye for things that are simple and different. I’ve always goen compliments on my clothes that are cute and sassy,” she said. “When I had cancer, I lost my hair, and so I really got into the hair.” Suddenly, people were asking her to buy extra items they could purchase from her, and “it just snowballed into something amazing.” Not only is Keneithia a single mom with two beauful kids, but

she is also a three-me, stage 4 breast cancer survivor. Originally diagnosed in 2013 when she was just 33 years old, the doctors found that her stage 4 breast cancer had metastasized, causing twenty tumors on her liver. Keke’s first thought was, “I have no room for failure. I have to be here for my kids, my mom and my dad.”
I feel like when life gives you lemons, lemons, you make lemonade vodka shots ! Keneithia beat it the first me, then again a second me, and again a third me. So what got her through it? Her contagious and exuberant posive atude. “I’m just so thankful for life, and I feel like when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade vodka shots! Regardless of whether you have someone to hold your hand, you goa get through it. It’s yours to go through,” says Keke. She adds that her kids and parents helped her win this fight. “It could always be worse. When you go through things in life, the changes they make become your new way of life without even realizing it. And I’ve been rock’n and rollin ever since.” “I became an advocate when I got sick and made it my mission to share everything about my journey. My story has been highlighted a lot. I’ve been on
TV, radio and interviewed for newspaper arcles. I want to bring awareness to breast cancer and to share hope with humor!” October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month As Keke tells it, she has learned to roll with the punches and take every twist and turn that life gives her as a unique opportunity. More and more people started ordering the special luxury items she provided at affordable prices. In May, she decided to take this lile business to the next level and Lavish A. Lux was born. So what about the flight aendant job? “I haven’t decided about that yet. I guess it depends on how well Lavish A. Lux does before I’m scheduled for training. But I’m open to anything,” explains Keke. We have no doubt that whatver Keke chooses, her future is bright! Wri en by Christine Walker

Are Unknown Breathing Issues Affecting Your Child’s Learning? Do you have a child who struggles with ADD/ADHD, bedwetting, chronic allergies, dark circles under the eyes, swollen tonsils and adenoids, trouble at school, irritability, frequent headaches, restless sleep, snoring, aggressive behavior, daytime drowsiness, nightmares or night terrors, arrested growth or crowded/crooked teeth? It may not be what you think! Navo Family Dental is now working with children who struggle to breathe when they sleep, using a system of orthodontic appliances and therapies. These treatments may help the upper and lower jaws to develop and reshape the oral cavity fully. As these areas develop more fully, the child’s airway may widen and expand, allowing the child to breathe better, and some of these symptoms may disappear. When children can breathe properly, they can begin to grow, learn and blossom into their full potential. When a child has an underdeveloped upper and/or lower jaw, the airway could be impacted, and the child may struggle with other health issues during their lifetime. It may not be what you think, so call us for a free evaluation. Do you suffer from sleep apnea? It may be the result of an obstruction in the airway caused by narrow dental arches and/or an underdeveloped jaw. Dr. Kim is now treating people of all ages with a proprietary, non-invasive, non-surgical option for the treatment of mild to moderate sleep apnea, snoring and sleep-disordered breathing. Call us today for more information!

Reducing Separation Anxiety COVID-19 has turned our world upside down. While we have been kept at home more than ever before, our pets have gotten used to this new normal. As Fall approaches, it’s important to be mindful of the effect that returning to school and work has on our fur babies. Separation anxiety can be frustrating for pet parents. Here are some signs to watch out for: • • • • •
urination & defecation outside litter boxes or inside the house (for potty trained dogs) crying/whimpering, barking, howling or an unusual amount of meowing destructive behavior (chewing, digging, getting into things different from normal) pacing, panting, excessive drinking, licking/chewing on themselves more than normal change in eating habits
There are a few things you can do ahead of time to help reduce the chance of separation anxiety: • • • •
Start leaving your pet in a different room for a couple of hours during the day - even while you are home. Leave your home for increasing periods of time, building up to how long you will be gone once you return to work/school. Exercise your pet daily with walks during cooler times of the day and play time (inside and outside). Engage your pet in enrichment activities (snuffle mats, puzzle toys, scent activities, stuffed toys, hide & seek games). Practicing these things in advance can significantly impact separation anxiety for your pet(s). Continuing daily exercise and enrichment activities once you return to your “new normal” is also very important. It will help establish routines, occupy your pet’s mind and provide stimulation outside of the focus of them being alone.
WE OFFER: • Easy Scheduling • Visit Reports + Photos
Remember, both dogs and cats can and will be susceptible to separation anxiety. Fur Services Fur Pets would love to help you with daily check-ins, walks and playtime to help ease the stress of changing schedules. Call us for a complimentary meet and greet today! Written by: Jessica Milam

PVE BRIEFCASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY! As a small business owner, I know too well the strain this year has put on our business, even though we are considered essential. Learning new ways of sharing documents, holding meetings, communicating and Linda Bullwinkle, MBA, EA documenting in a Owner, Financial Fitness virtual world is not easy when pencil, paper and face to face are preferred. I know I feel tired; I do not want to live with Zoom (major decorating and appearance changes will be necessary), and I want the world as I knew it. That world has become the new – good old days! The most vulnerable small businesses have struggled to arrange short-term funding, while Federal government stimulus programs have offered some relief. The response has been swift, but the ‘process’ changed daily and the information more often. As I look back to March, I am amazed at the many applications we submitted for our clients and how the applications evolved from impossible to straightforward over a thirty-day period. We became experts overnight in SBA and PPP and Denton Open 1 and 2. We have worked with a multitude of banks and lenders, all with different requirements and expectations. We knew our clients needed support and information, assistance and guidance. I’m proud of our firm for our ability to ‘pivot’ (yes, I learned a new use for an old word) and work around the clock to meet deadlines, learn a new process, figure out different requirements and help our clients receive some funding they sorely needed. We are still doing this today. I want every business to survive and be solvent for the sake of our community, not just the business. I believe this is our new world and our new focus. Yes, we will continue to prepare tax returns for individuals, businesses, estates, trusts, nonprofits and partnerships. Focusing only on taxes will not help our clients. Focusing on their ability to budget, plan, manage and make decisions, whether in their personal life or

business, will help our clients reach their goals. Finding and offering solutions will help our clients succeed. The better we handle our new normal, the more we can help pull everyone we work with along. This is my commitment; we are here to help our community succeed. As we enter the Fall with a changed ‘Back to School’ concept, we should all remember that we are going to need to be patient and help each other. It has not been easy, it is not going to be easy, but a bit of kindness and understanding will go a long way to help someone else. Our schools and teachers, parents and children will have a lot of adjusting. If we all work together, we might just find a new way to succeed to create the best solutions for our community and ourselves. This Fall, support your local community! ...

GOLF CARTS: ARE YOU PROPERLY COVERED? By Brad Kiesling Farmers Insurance
The safety of golf carts continues to be a hot topic in many local neighborhoods. Golf carts today are larger, more powerful and used for purposes other than golfing. Undeniably, this brings a greater likelihood of a serious accident. According to recent statistics, golf cart accidents have more than doubled over the past 20 years with a large proportion of these accidents involving children under the age of 18. Approximately 40% of accidents involve a person falling out of the cart, 10% involve rollovers, and roughly 15,000 injuries per year require emergency care. It is a common misconception that an individual’s homeowners or auto insurance policy will provide adequate coverage. While it is true that there might be some coverage provided under a homeowner’s policy, this coverage varies depending on the insurance company. The coverage is likely to be basic, and any claim could affect the cost of your policy at renewal. A separate policy that covers your golf cart is very inexpensive, generally around $250 a year. Our agency can customize a policy that meets your specific needs. Types of coverages include liability in case someone is injured, property damage, medical payments, uninsured motorist and collision and comprehensive to help pay for cart repairs. Proper insurance coverage is more important than ever. Will you be protected in the event your golf cart is involved in an accident? If you’re unsure about your current golf cart coverage, we welcome you to stop by our agency or give us a call for a complimentary policy review. We have experienced agents “who have seen a thing or two” and are here in the neighborhood to help protect what is important to you and your family. ...

Mind, Body & Soul cbd: hype or help ARE HEMP AND MARIJUANA THE SAME? For years hemp has been confused with its illegal cousin. With the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, however, America will see a resurgence in hemp agriculture and health benefits from phytocannabinoids. Furthermore, UltraCell’s CBD provides health benefits free from THC, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana. WHAT MAKES OUR PRODUCTS DIFFERENT? Amy Turner
Unlike other hemp oils that draw upon only isolated portions of the hemp plant, UltraCell is derived using full-spectrum hemp oil extract, known as cannabidiol, or CBD. While CBD has known health benefits, the reality is that other CBD-isolate products cannot benefit the body like our full-spectrum hemp oil, which utilizes all parts of the hemp plant and its phytocannabinoids. UltraCell contains over 400 biologically active compounds, including CBD and an entourage of other cannabinoids, flavonoids, terpenes, vitamins, fatty acids and minerals. By utilizing all aspects of the hemp plant in its natural state, UltraCell creates an environment where the natural compounds work together to create a synergistic effect. When it comes to UltraCell, the true sum of the whole is greater than the parts. UltraCell Scan for more info makes the power of the hemp plant fully available, the way that nature intended. PUTTING YOUR MIND AT EASE... Easier said than done, right? 2020 has been a rough one for the human race as a whole, and many of us have yet to mentally process the tidal wave of emotions associated with this crazy year. If emotions are not dealt with, it can eventually take a toll on our physical health as well.

Putting things in Perspective: Limiting the time we spend watching the news, engaged in social media, and focusing on tragedy doesn’t mean we don’t care or that we are putting our heads in the sand. It’s OK to step away long enough to give our hearts a break and process for our own well-being. The following are just a few quick tips for our mental health:
GRATITUDE IS A GAME-CHANGER – Thinking about the people and things that are good in our lives makes us grateful
EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING - Choose to see the good in situations and people. LAUGH OFTEN - Humor goes a long way to manage stress, release endorphins, and it gives us an outlet to ‘feel’
DO YOUR BEST - Manage situations within your control to the best of your ability, then give yourself permission to ‘let
GET IN TOUCH WITH NATURE – Feel the warm sun on your face, take a walk, sit on your porch and watch the sunrise
and gives us perspective. happiness.

I’M GAINING WEIGHT, and I’m Worried That I Have a Thyroid Problem... This is something I hear a lot among new people who come to see me. They then say, “Well I had my thyroid checked, and it was normal.” Well… what exactly did you have checked? The various tests of thyroid function that you have run can make all the difference. When we test thyroid function, we run a panel that consists of four tests. What are they and why do you need four? THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE Olga Cortez, M.D
The first test is a TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) test. This hormone is produced by your pituitary gland and stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormone. When your thyroid gland is not working well, your thyroid hormone level goes down. Your pituitary detects this and starts to release more TSH hormone to stimulate your thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormone. Therefore, as thyroid function goes down, TSH goes up. TSH is the standard thyroid screening test, BUT not the only one for us. CROSS ROADS HORMONAL HEALTH
TOTAL T4 Your thyroid gland produces a thyroid hormone called T4, which goes into the blood stream and is converted to T3. FREE T3 This is the active thyroid hormone in your blood stream. It affects energy, weight, metabolism, hair, nails, skin, body temperature, periods, digestive issues and many other bodily functions. TPO ANTIBODY This test checks for Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies. What are those? Antibodies are made by the immune system to fight off infections. Antibodies are normal. Unfortunately, there are some folks who make antibodies against their thyroid glands. This is a condition called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Unless you specifically test for this, there is no way to know whether or not you have it. So as part of my thyroid screen, I test this on everyone. There are many other thyroid tests out there that I run, but as a standard, these are the thyroid tests I run on everyone; the above four are my panel. So, if you suspect you may have a thyroid problem, ask for the four abovementioned tests. We would be happy to check them for you and let you know where you stand with regards to your thyroid function and what your options are.
