Gary Radvansky Potentate: Illustrious Sir, Gary Radvansky Potentate of Alzafar Shriners

Illustrious Sir Gary R. Radvansky Potentate of Alzafar Shriners Nobles, since my last communication, so many things have happened. We do not realize just how lucky we are until tragedy strikes. The hurricanes and storms have created such havoc and destruction in many areas of the world, and have altered the lives of so many of our brother nobles, masons and their families. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of these families with hopes that they will be cared for during this long road to recovery. God bless you all. I am looking forward to all of our upcoming activities here at Alzafar. Our Ceremonial on October 7th will be a great time welcoming in our new nobles & their families. We will be conducting all degrees on that day, ending with a celebration Gala with food, dancing and fun. This event will be free to all nobles and their guests. It’s time for some fun & fellowship; therefore, please come help us celebrate. One week later on the 14th, we have our Hospital Gala which is promised to be an outstanding event. You will be taken back in time as you will see our beloved Shrine transformed into the Rat Pack Lounge of the 60’s. Next, our Masonic Picnic on the 21st will be held at Camp Alzafar and start with the Oklahoma Indian Degree Team, the competitive Chili Cook Off, and end with great food and entertainment. Oh, but don’t forget……Circus Circus Circus! Are you ready? Your Divan members have been hard at work coordinating with their committees to ensure a great time is had by all. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication. The positive energy is so amazing and you can feel it everywhere. I am so thankful for the nobles of Alzafar. We are truly a family! Cheryl and I want to thank you for your support. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you. May God bless you all!!

CIRCUS CIRCUS CIRCUS CIRCUS CIRCUS CIRCUS CIRCUS

th annual Alzafar Shrine Circus is just a few short weeks The 74 away. Final preparations are being made to hopefully make this year’s circus bigger and better than ever. Putting a circus together is no easy task. It takes hard work and dedication of many volunteers to help bring it all together. It’s these volunteers who truly make everything work and Lady Cynthia and I are very thankful for everyone’s commitments this year. The show couldn’t go on without you. Noble tickets are on their way to your mailbox. These tickets are offered to you at a discounted price as a thank you for all you do in support of our Fraternity and philanthropy. If you do not wish to purchase them, I ask that you send them back so we can update our ticket database and utilize the tickets somewhere else. The proceeds of the circus go toward helping supplement Alzafar’s operating budget for items such as employee salaries, building maintenance, Noble assistance programs, etc. utilities, Noble ticket sales play a key role in the income of our circus. Without this income, we all are limited in the operation of our Shrine and growth of our Fraternity is made very difficult.

Parking at the coliseum will be a little challenge for us this year. There will be Spurs games next door at the AT&T Center 3 out of the 4 nights during our circus. I ask that unless you have been granted permission by me, do not plan on bringing a camper or a travel trailer to the circus. You will be turned away because we simply will not have room for it. If you would like to bring in a camper or trailer so your drive home will not be as far each evening, there is a KOA campground not far from the coliseum located at 602 Gembler Rd. Nobles wishing to park there are in of their own reservations and payments. charge I will be holding a circus information meeting on Wednesday October 18th at 6:00pm in the Alzafar Shrine Parlor Room. Lady Cynthia and I thank you all for your support and we look forward to seeing all of you at the circus!

Gala, Gala, Gala… Our “Rat Pack Lounge” Gala has been the focus of our gala committee’s free time over the last several months. At the writing of this article, we are still busy selling tables, soliciting sponsorships and gathering live and silent auction items to ensure our gala raises funds to support the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children. As you know, these type of events are not successful because of the efforts of a few, but by the efforts and commitment of many. I ask you to join the effort to help the gala be successful. Buy a table, donate your time to help set-up the auction tables, solicit friends, family, vendors and co-workers for a special auction item or bring in some guests and show them all about the Shriners and our efforts to help children receive life saving and life changing care. The gala will be held on October 14, 2017 in the Shrine Auditorium. Doors open at 5:30 with piano music, specialty cocktails and lounge seating areas to gather before the event gets underway. If you have not yet bought a table or tickets, please contact Carol in the front office at (210) 496-1625. We hope to pack the place with all the cool cats and dames that make up the Alzafar Shrine.

The Masonic excitement is building. We have 2 important events nearly upon us in October. On October 7th, we have the second session ceremonial put on by our Directors Staff. This will be a fun, day-long event for all of our new Nobles. So please come out and properly welcome our new brothers into the Shrine. We need to know if you will be attending. Please contact Carol at 496-1625 or stop by to visit with her in the office. The event is free to attend (donations will be accepted), but you must RSVP for a great dinner and a band to dance to. BYOB, but set-ups will be provided. The other big event you will not want to miss is the Masonic Picnic/Chili Cook-off on October 21st. The Oklahoma Masonic Indian Degree Team will be putting on an awesome outdoor degree for us. They are also planning a dance performance during lunch to keep us entertained. We will be serving a fabulous dinner that evening. Our annual chili cook-off competition will be underway near the ball field and a variety of arts and crafts vendors will be out in force. Drinks will be served all day and an amazing country western band will entertain us at the dance that night. With an event this exciting (and being the 90th anniversary of Camp Alzafar), attendance could be pretty high. Thus, we need you to call Carol in the office and let her know how many will be in your party, will you be attending lunch, and will you be attending dinner. If your group calls in an RSVP, we will guarantee to have food for you. If you do not RSVP, then show up anyway, but we cannot guarantee that there will be food for you. As an extra incentive for turning in your RSVP, each person will be entered into a raffle. The drawing will occur during the evening event and multiple door prizes will be handed out, including special engraved mugs commemorating the event, a BBQ grill and many others. Please call in by October 13th to make sure you are a part of this party.

Q: Why didn’t the skeleton cross the road? A: He didn’t have the guts!!! As we move into the most active part of the year, our very own Alzafar’s Children’s Halloween Party will be held on Sunday, 22nd October from 4-6pm. We will be having a trick or treat run through the Temple and the unit rooms, music, games and a costume contest in the ball room. Please RSVP to Carol in the office (210-496-1625) so we can get an almost probable, somewhat two-headed count. Bring your family and friends as we plan to have a Spooktacular time. Q: What do vampires take when they are sick? A: Coffin drops!!! It’s great to see the continued momentum and energy radiating out of our Temple. Within this energy and momentum there are bound to be some great ideas-The OG roundtable meeting will be held on Tuesday 26 September. Always room to add another seat, see you there. Q: Why do ghosts shiver and moan? A: It’s drafty under that sheet!!

Summer is on the run this first day of fall is upon us. Not that that means much to us in Central Texas, but we will take what respite that nature can give us. Speaking of nature.. please keep all our family and friends and Brother/ Sister Texans along our coast in your thoughts and prayers as their recovery begins. I have spoken with my counterparts in the Corpus, Houston, and Galveston area. We will be considering how Alzafar might be able to assist in some measure our Noble Brethren and their families, especially with the holidays around the corner. Our very own Noble Robert Norman will be heading this up. If you would like to help in any way please reach out to him.

Many of our brothers, dear friends and family members have endured a 500 year catastrophic event, which will be everlasting both in mind and financially. I am saddened more than you know. Please join me in keeping all folks involved in our constant prayers for a speedy recovery. With the transformation of our Shrine center now complete, it’s time to focus on the remainder of the year. I hope everyone had a great time at the recent ceremonial and you met many new friends who you brought into your units. The Gala, Masonic picnic and our Halloween party for all the kiddo’s, young and old, are next up. I truly hope you attend and bring your friends, family and brothers to enjoy. Next up, another very important fundraiser for both the Shrine Center and all units. Our 2017 Shrine Circus beginning November 2nd. I hope you can participate at each performance helping out where you can and selling novelties to support your units. This should be our best circus ever. I appreciate all who came to the accounting meeting to gain a better understanding on our new financial tracking, which will benefit both our Shrine Center and your units. Of special note, please congratulate one more time, our membership committee headed up by Al Rapoza, who is recovering from major surgery and continued to work from his hospital bed. We remain in number one position for creations. This as you know, is no small feat. The team was focused and diligent, never giving up. That is the spirit it takes to make a difference. Please continue support your local Blue Lodges each month. It is making a huge difference. The more we can help them increase their membership, the more opportunities we will have to do the same. As always, I am proud to serve you and if there is anything I can help you with, please contact me. A wise man once said,

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”

AL RAPOZA Shriner of the Month Alzafar Divan Congratulations to Noble Al Rapoza for being selected as Alzafar’s Shriner of the Month for October. Noble Rapoza currently serves as Alzafar Shrine’s Membership Chairman. From the very beginning of being appointed to this position, Noble Rapoza has worked day and night leading the Membership Committee, which has produced great results. So great, in fact, that Alzafar’s membership efforts were recognized during this year’s Texas Shrine Association meeting in Waco, TX, and again during the recent Imperial Session in Daytona Beach FL. Nobles with non-payment of dues are way down and creations of new nobles are way up. We have initiated new Nobles into our Fraternity at each of our stated meetings so far this year, and the trend looks to continue. Noble Rapoza is a regular attendee of Masonic Lodges, spreading inspiring words of our philanthropy. He has been spotted at the Shrine on numerous occasions, dedicating numerous hours of his time to give tours of the facility to prospective members. And the pride he shows participating with the Ritualistic Divan while initiating our new Nobles is next to none. Recently, Noble Rapoza has had a string of bad luck with his health, but that hasn’t slowed him down one bit. In the waiting room of his doctor’s office Noble Rapoza is on the phone with candidates answering their questions. When his treatments knock him down, he uses the little bit of energy he has to coordinate with the Membership Committee to ensure their momentum continues. And even though Noble Rapoza hasn’t been physically around lately, his influence always plays a key role in any decision concerning our membership efforts. Noble Rapoza is an inspiration to us all. No matter how hard he gets knocked down, the love he has for our fraternity and philanthropy lifts him up and he still answers the call.

OFFICIAL CALL OF THE POTENTATE Annual Election of Officers Notice is hereby given that the Annual Election of Officers will be held at a Stated Session of Alzafar Shriners at the time and place shown below. Attest: Thomas D. Leverett Recorder Thursday, December 14, 2017

Gary Radvansky Potentate 7:30 pm

Alzafar Shrine Center 901 N. Loop 1604 W. San Antonio, TX 78232 A Noble Appreciation note: Some Nobles are just easy to appreciate. As your Recorder, I have an opportunity to interact with Alzafar Nobles on a daily basis. The one thing we all have in common is our love for the fraternity and our purpose of helping save and improve the lives of the children we send to the Shrine Hospitals. It does not happen very often, but occasionally I get a note from a Shriner asking us to drop them from our membership. It is sad that these few Nobles have forgotten what we are all about. They probably never took a trip to our Shrine Hospitals, never joined a Unit or Club or participated in a Shine Parade. They probably never helped us raise money to transport the kids to the hospitals. They probably never visited a fellow Noble or the hospital or attended a funeral service for a fellow Brother. If they had done any of the above they would gladly pay their dues and be an Alzafar Shrine for Life. One of the Nobles that is easy to appreciate is the Chairman of the Membership Committee, Al Rapoza. Al personally meets Masons that have an interest in becoming a Shriner at the Shrine Center and walks them around pointing out Unit rooms and showing off our beautiful facility. If the person is not a mason, he will teach them their Masonic work. Al is also a great leader and has a strong team of Nobles that each have an assignment and our banner year in membership is because of Al’s dedicated team of Nobles. Al has had a hard time lately with his health, but you would never know it talking to Al. My only problem with Al is he wears burnt orange and loves to cheer for that little university to the left of my fighting Texas Aggies. Yes, he is a University of Texas man, but that does not stop me from appreciating Al as a great Shriner, Scottish Rite member and Mason. I am a better man, Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner because of men like Al. I hope you have as many friends as I do. I am truly blessed. Alzafar Day Care Center now closed. Many thanks to our Ill. Potentate Gary Radvansky for allowing me to bring my Grandson into the office. Originally, the plan was for me to watch Peanut (Dez) so my Lady Lisa could go on a one week cruise out of Galveston. With Hurricane Harvey, the plans changed and it turned into a two week cruise since the Port of Galveston was closed. The Ladies in the office helped me entertain my grandson so I could get some work done every day. I did catch the Potentate giving a 2 ½ year old boy candy. Really Gary, like that boy needs more sugar in his system. I think he did it on purpose, but I can’t prove it and you know what they say “the Potentate is always right”. Come out and join us at the next event and find out why I say “Alzafar Rocks”!

MEETING WILL BE TILED MUST HAVE 2017 DUES CARD

325.11 Election Regulations (a) Electioneering. The printing, publication, circulating, or distribution of resolutions, letters, telegrams, tickets, email or other devices, by a Noble, suggesting, recommending, opposing or containing the names of proposed candidates for office in the temple is prohibited. (b) Violation. For any violation of (a) above, the Imperial Potentate may suspend any offending Noble, and he may declare the election of the officers void and order a new election. (c) Notice. At least one week prior to the annual meeting or any election the temple Recorder shall mail to each member a notice thereof containing this section.

ORIENTAL GUIDE MUST BE SELECTED WISELY When members of a Shrine Center elect a Noble to the office of Oriental Guide, they are virtually starting that Noble through the Divan on the assumption that he will prove qualified for and worthy of advancement to the high office of Illustrious Potentate. Hence it is quite evident that the nomination for Oriental Guide should be based upon through and accurate evaluation of character, ability, prestige, interest, and experience. A Noble can be a good fellow, a hard worker, and a loyal Shriner…and yet lack the basic qualifications, which make a good Potentate. Unless a Noble is fully qualified for the job, he is unfair both to himself and to his Temple in seeking the office or in permitting his fellow Nobles to support and promote his candidacy. Each Shrine Temple needs and requires able high-type leadership. The normal starting out point of that leadership is the office of Oriental Guide. The following checklist may prove helpful in evaluating potential candidates for the office of Oriental Guide. However, no thinking man would be so naïve or presumptuous as to believe that any one Noble could possibly embody all the virtues, talents, and qualifications which are set forth in the checklist. Nevertheless, the list has practical value…for self-evaluation by the Nobles whose ultimate aspiration is the office of Illustrious Potentate…and for advance evaluation of candidates by the voting members. 1. He should have good business judgment. 2. He should be friendly and outgoing, a good mixer. 3. He should have the ability to express himself clearly in language that will make us proud of him, rather than apologetic. 4. He should present an imposing personal appearance. 5. He should be able to hold his own and advance the interest of his Temple and Freemasonry in high places as well as among the humble. 6. He should be a devoted Mason and constantly promote the interest of Freemasonry everywhere. 7. He should be proud, yet humble. 8. He should have good Character and a past open to investigation. 9. He should be a leader, have good standing in his community, and be influential in its affairs. 10. He should be financially secure. 11. He should be in good health, full of energy, and vitality. 12. He should be able to devote ample time to his duties. 13. He should be a man who, when he appears anywhere in public, you will be proud of and not be apologetic for his shortcomings. 14. His wife should be able to understand his devotion to duty; realize that he is Potentate and not she; be able to dress and wear appropriate clothing, and be familiar with the social amenities. Remember she is destined to become Alzafar’s First Lady. Nominations for Oriental Guide should be based upon thorough and accurate evaluation of character, ability, and interest. Remember, you are electing your spokesman and standard-bearer and the one who will represent you throughout the World. We have a great Talent in our Temple. Let’s seek it! Let us be fair and sincere. Let us get the very best we can.

Nobles and Ladies:

If you live in the Boerne, Bandera, Pipe Creek, Bergheim, Comfort, Kendalia, Fair Oaks Ranch, or Northern San Antonio areas and would like to join in fellowship with a lively group of fellow Nobles and their Ladies, then come join us at the Boerne Shrine Club. We enjoy getting together for fun and fellowship, as well as working together for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals and Alzafar’s Hospital Transportation Fund.

What Did We Just Finish?

We had a great Tailgate Party for the Shriners who came, participated, and were sensational in the Kendall County Fair Parade on the morning of September 2nd. Afterwards, we fed over 70 of them and their families shredded pork BBQ on buns with all of the trimmings, pinto beans, chips, and desserts, with tea, sodas, water, or whatever they wanted! We were honored to feed these men and women who came to show Boerne who Shriners are and what Shriners do.

What’s Coming Up? The year is starting to move toward the end….however:

In December we’ll again be sponsoring a Magic Show for kids of all ages. The show will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 7:00PM in the Boerne Champion High School Auditorium. So come as it will mystify all kids–and yes, whatever their ages!

If you’re a Shriner reading this and live in the Hill Country area then join us and help the Children at the Shriners Hospitals as well as the Transportation Fund that gets them there. If you’re wondering what those crazy folks in Boerne are up to, then come and find out! We meet on the third Wednesday of each month at different restaurants. This month we’re eating at Hungry Horse Restaurant at 109 Saunders Street, Boerne, TX on Wednesday, October 18th at 6:00 PM for fun & fellowship hour and 7:00 PM for dinner with a short business meeting afterward. Give me a call at 210-698-6111 to let me know you’re coming, and we’ll be ready for you.

The Nemnuf remains the premier unit of the Alzafar Shrine. Live everyone else, we were pretty slow in July and August. In July, we co-hosted a temple comedy show and all who attended enjoyed the show and had a good time. We just had the Kendall County Fair Parade in Boerne last weekend. We had "Pee Tee" in his yellow thing, Tater, Beto, Brian, Popp-E, John and Dr. Stretcho, our resident proctologist. Next week we will travel to Hondo for their annual parade. The Nemnuf is always ready for parades. This year we are ready for the circus with our props built and our skit ready. We will be at the circus in mass and make our Potentate proud. It has been a great year for the Nemnuf winning nearly everything at the Texas Shrine Clown Midwinter and being the number one over all clown unts at All State. Our meetings remain a full house. We enjoy family, fun and clowning. If you are a shriner looking for a fun unit to join, come see us the second Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the clown room. See you there.

ALZAFAR SENIORS By: Roger Hopkins

The Alzafar Seniors met in the Parlors on the 7th of September with 30 members and guests in attendance. The meeting was opened by our President, Noble Dan Schauer. An invocation was given by our Chaplain, Noble Donald Garrido, PP, who provided a bit of humor before the blessing. We then rendered honors to the America and Texas flags. We had a delicious lunch of Brisket, beans, potato salad, slaw and ice tea from Grady’s. We then conducted a brief business meeting that involved recognition of Nobility, birthdays (Noble David Wolfe), anniversaries (David and Mrs. Kienbaum and “Tex” and Mrs. Phillips), sickness and distress (an update on the Memorial for Noble Reid McLeod and an update on Al Rapoza). Our Secretary reported that the minutes were in the recent copy of the Achbar and the treasurer reported that we were “still solvent”. There was a motion, followed by discussion, to donate $100 to Noble Art Loera who has worked out a deal with Academy to purchase bicycles for the upcoming circus. The motion was passed unanimously and so ordered by our President.

The program was very informative and followed by some in depth questions and discussion. The meeting was closed following a benediction by Noble Garrido, PP. We meet next on October 5th and look forward to seeing many of you there.

Howdy Nobles. Due to unfortunate, the Masonic BBQ Cook-off has been canceled and will be postponed. Stand by for a future date. If any Noble is interested or has a passion for all things BBQ, friendship, family and fun, please join us on the 2nd Wednesday of the month out at the pavilion. We have a meal at 6:00 pm and start our meeting at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you at our next meeting.

Our monthly meeting was held on September 6th with 17 members and 8 wives present. Marshal David Hadley used his culinary skills this month to prepare a delicious meal of fried catfish, french fries and cole slaw. Rich Orr assisted in the meal by preparing hamburgers for those who aren’t catfish eaters. Once again we thank Marshal Hadley for keeping us well fed! Art Loera stopped by to discuss bicycles for the upcoming Shrine Circus as he has the responsibility of collecting money for the bicycles again this year. Our Provost Guard is donating $300 toward the purchase of bicycles for the circus. Arrangements have been made for us to have a motorhome on site circus as we have had in previous years. Circus dates are November at the 2nd-5th, so please mark those dates on your calendar. We will discuss the circus more at our October meeting. In the absence of the Pistol Captain, Terry Zittle reported that we have a location for the shooting match to be held when we host It will be held at the Bexar Community Range. Hotel information will follow at a later date. Dates for that shoot are March 23rd-25th. Please mark those dates on you calendar now so you will not have a conflict. Everyone’s help will be needed to make this a successful event.

RV CLUB By: Dave Browne The August rally was held at the Schulenburg RV Park in Schulenburg. Schulenburg is a park the club used to go to every year, but the oil boom made us go to other places. We were glad to be able to return to this quaint little park. Even though Schulenburg is a small town, there are surprisingly many things to do in the area. The Painted Churches are worth a visit and just down the highway; the Shiner brewery has tours daily. We also found several good places to dine. The weather was excellent, so we had time to relax and have fellowship. We were blessed with several new Nobles and there Ladies who joined the club. The September rally was scheduled be held at the Lagoons RV Park, located in Rockport, Texas. However due to the devastation hurricane Harvey caused to the town, it has been moved to the Triple T RV Park in Kerrville. Our October rally will be held at the Oakwood RV Park in Fredericksburg. The dates are Oct. 26th through 29th. If you have a RV and want to have a lot of fun in a relaxed atmosphere with Brother Nobles and their Ladies, come out and rally with us. I know you will have a great time. Call Wagon Master Addy Addington (830-931-9707) or assistant Wagon Master Jim Miller (210-260-0335) for information about the next rally. You can always call me at (210-679-7356).

As I write this article, Hurricane Irma is roaring up the West Coast of Florida only a week after Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston and much of Southeast Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of both states as well as our hopes for a speedy clean-up and recovery. Hurricane Harvey also caused the cancellation of our August Fun Shoot at Bexar Community Range. We were planning on a fun-filled day of shooting 5-stand, spending time with our lovely ladies and enjoying some burgers on the grill. But, we’re thankful that it was just a small inconvenience to us compared to the life-changing effects that millions of people felt from two very nasty storms. On a positive note, however, our newest member of the Shotgun Unit, Noble Jerry King, was kind enough to invite us on a dove hunt September 9th at his property here locally. Talk about making a good impression on a bunch of bird huntin’, clay smokin’ shotgun nuts. Nicely done, Jerry! Everyone had a great time and we thank you for your generosity. Below is a quick look at our calendar through the end of the year. Please join us October 28th at Caliber Canyon in Boerne to shoot 5 stand at our last fun shoot of the year. Contact any member of the Shotgun Unit for the details. - October 9th-ASGU Stated Meeting - October 28th-Final Fun Shoot, Caliber Canyon - November 13th-ASGU Stated Meeting (Elections) - December 1st-Unit Christmas Party/Installation of Officers (Barn Door Restaurant)

It was very busy during our dark days. We are usually dark in July and August but our Grand High Priestess, Janet Larson, made her official visit August 4th & 5th. She gave us a huge assignment that has taken the rest of the summer. Lady Irene Pendleton, Assoc. Princess, did an outstanding job on our banquet. Fez's off to Lady Irene. The Lady Janet Larson, Grand High Priestess gave us an assignment that has many ladies working to complete it. Lady Tiffany Caldron, Lady Pat Schellhause, Lady Dee Dee Kintigh and Lady Alycia Lopez. Great job ladies. Our Garden Party hosted by the Altrui Patrol was outstanding. We had a great turnout. Our Old Bag Luncheon, under the direction of Princess, Lady Ruby Stimson, was the best ever and worked hard on her next project, The Las Vegas night which was held September 30th. Another successful event. Now she is working on the items we will sell at our booth at the Circus in November. He have nine ladies signed up to go to Mid States Unit Meet, October 12th-14th in Tulsa, OK. September 7th we initiated two Divan ladies. Lady Cynthia Triggs and Lady Suzanne De Walt. Welcome ladies. We look forward to seeing you at our stated meeting to keep us informed about happenings at Alzafar. May you always have love to share and, friends who care!

The Hospital Corps met on its regular day, the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The meeting was gaveled to order by our Commander, Noble Don Inselmann, who then led us in the pledge to the nation and state. Noble Ed Tuma provided an invocation and then the Commander recognized past Commanders and reviewed the business of the various committees. This meeting was planned as a “Ladies Night Out” but due to some restaurant closings we had to cancel and reschedule a “Pot Luck” for our September 19th. Commander Inselmann led the election of a new Hospital Corpsman, Noble Joe Urby, and then discussed the planning of our next parade, and reviewed any maintenance issues. It was moved that we donate $100 to Noble Art Loera for the purchase of bicycles for the upcoming circus. The business meeting was closed by a benediction from Noble Tuma. The meeting was followed by some great snacks. We look to those of you in our Shrine that are as committed as we are to come out and support our mission.

R next meeting will be Oktoebur 8th. As usual tha unit will supply tha meat, wile we ask tha cuz’ns ta bring tha following: A – F Desserts, G – M Appetizers, N – Z Veggies. HILL COUNTRY SHRINE CLUB By: Jim Bobbitt With the addition of the St. Louis Blues March to the Drum & Bugle Corps repertoire, we expect to change the program for next year’s All-State. I you would like to be a part of the new program, come on by and join us. We are always looking for more musicians. Currently we are performing on brass instruments that are played in the band; Bb trumpets, Bb marching French horns, marching trombones, marching baritones, etc. We do have instruments that we can lend to you. We need low brass and percussion players. We are also need percussionists and we have drums for you to play. We are a very low-pressure organization in terms of expectations and very flexible concerning time commitment. Thursday evening practices in Room 8 start at 7:30pm and end at 9:00pm. If you have any questions, please call Richard Wallace at 210-219-6861 or email at rfwall@swbell.net. Come on out and join us!

During August and Labor Day weekend, the Club participated with our float in the parades in Fredericksburg and Boerne. Good to see many Shriners represented at both parades. Events we will be participating in the upcoming months include three parades in Kerrville, the Shrine Circus in Kerrville and our Club sponsored Magic Show. We invite any Nobles in the area to join us for our monthly meeting on the first Monday of each month at 11:30am. We meet at the Inn of the Hills, 1001 Junction Highway, Kerrville, Texas 78028. Any further information please contact Jim Bobbitt at 830-895-3615.

The onset of August signals to start of the Band’s season as we prepare to perform for stated meetings, guest appearances, the Circus, etc.

like to take this opportunity to welcome We would new Noble Robert Packer to the Alzafar Shrine Band playing percussion. His wife Beth will be playing clarinet with the band on occasion. So far in 2017, through the efforts of the Band, we have contributed $800 to the $100,000,000 Club and plan to raise even more this year. The next major event for the Band is the circus. Several Nobles have mentioned to us that they have children in band programs around the area. If you have a young band student, or other relative, who plays an instrument, they are invited to perform with us at any circus performance except on Friday, November 3rd. Alzafar is pleased to announce that on Friday November 3rd, the Jackson Middle School Band will perform at the 10:00am Show and the Luna Middle School Band will once again perform at the 7:00pm Show. The Band would like to solicit your prayers for John Behrens and Ricardo Baldarrama who are battling several serious ailments as outpatients at M.D. Anderson Clinic in Houston. We are always looking for more performers, especially woodwinds, low brass, and percussion. We meet on Thursday evenings from 6:00pm until 7:30pm in Room 7. Come on by good music and good fellowship, a combination that’s hard to beat. If you have any questions, please call Richard Wallace at 210-219-6861 or email at rfwall@swbell.net.
