Bingo During the Quarantine Many people around the world are missing bingo. Bingo is not just a game, it’s a hobby and a community. We can see that our bingo halls hosts families and friends and that’s something that can’t be achieved by playing a regular game of online bingo.

Cindy Trevino Smith sent Las Vegas Bingo in Corpus Christi a picture of her utilizing old pennybird cards to have some bingo fun at home! This seemed like a wonderful idea to pass time so if you have some laying around, give it a go!
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many communities got creative in finding how they can share a fun game of bingo, yet social distance themselves and remain safe. Here are some of our favorites: •
•
Matthew McConaughey played virtual bingo with a senior living facility amid coronavirus quarantine! Austin based actor made a special virtual appearance at a game for Texas’ The Enclave at Round Rock Senior Living facility in Red Rock along with his wife, model Camila Alves, mother Kay and children. Balcony Bingo played in Florida at the Sunrise Lakes Community. Residents come to their screened patio or back window. In the grass, Laurie Holbach, a member of the social committee for the building, calls out the numbers. The prizes are becoming of the situation; from wipes and hand sanitizer, to the grand prize. Museum’s Creepy Coronavirus Lockdown Challenge Things took a terrifying turn after a museum in the United Kingdom challenged rival institutions to tweet photos of the creepiest object in their collections. Yorkshire Museum’s Twitter account was flooded with unsettling images as the latest edition of its weekly #CuratorBattle hashtag garnered global attention amid the coronavirus lockdown. The museum kicked off the April 17th installment of the competition with this picture of a “3rd/4th Century hair bun from the burial of a Roman lady, still with the jet pins in place.” In response, other museums shared unnerving pictures of children’s toys, dolls, “mermaids” and even a plague mask. Here’s a mermaid from Natural Museums in Scotland. MAY 2020 \\ THE BINGO NUGGET

Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake return in an all-star sequel to DreamWorks Animation’s 2016 musical hit: Trolls World Tour. In an adventure that will take them well beyond what they’ve known before, Poppy (Kendrick) and Branch (Timberlake) discover that they are but one of six different Troll tribes scattered over six different lands and devoted to six different kinds of music: Funk, Country, Techno, Classical, Pop and Rock. Their world is about to get a lot bigger and a whole lot louder. A member of hard-rock royalty, Queen Barb (Rachel Bloom), aided by her father King Thrash (Ozzy Osbourne), wants to destroy all other kinds of music to let rock reign supreme. With the fate of the world at stake, Poppy and Branch, along with their friends set out to visit all the other lands to unify the Trolls in harmony against Barb, who’s looking to upstage them all.

healthy living
Stiff Joints And Sore Muscles Don’t Have To Run Your Life You can almost feel it - the hands begin to cramp a bit more at night. By the time the morning comes in, you can barely move your hands and your hands look like a balloon. This is my rheumatoid arthritis journey.
May has been named Arthritis Awareness Month and while there over 100 types of arthritis, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis are the two most common. The symptoms of arthritis usually develop during a time, they sometimes do appear out of nowhere. And for those of you under the age of 65, don’t be alarmed if these symptoms develop, as children, teenagers, and younger adults can also have arthritis. 10
THE BINGO NUGGET // MAY 2020
Let’s talk about symptoms - they can appear as a range and combination of types. From joint pain, stiffness, and swelling being the most common. One day you may find range of motion may decrease and there may be redness around a swollen joint. Typically the symptoms are worse in the morning after your body has had an opportunity to settle into its swelling. With rheumatoid arthritis (RA), you can find yourself dealing with these symptoms along with fatigue and a loss of appetite. You can also become anemic (a decrease in red blood cell count) or have a slight fever. When left untreated, RA can cause joint deformity so if you are dealing with any of this, reach out tot your general practitioner to get a diagnosis and on the road to recovery. So what exactly causes RA? Well, we don’t know. What we do know is it’s the result of an autoimmune disorder that affects the joints. The joint pain can be so severe that taking a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) is necessary. Exactly how RA and the joints are connected is a fascinating connection.
The disorder occurs when immune cells begin to attack your body. Your body begins to attack its own healthy joint tissue, the synovial membrane. Once your RA has been triggered, the antibodies in your body can go into attack mode. The antibodies then trigger inflammation to this synovial membrane and fluid. The more inflamed, the less fluid is produced, and the less the production the joints become more stiff and immobile. During this time, your body can become weak and destroy the connective tissue in your body.
There are a few risk factors that are normal with any kind of autoimmune disorder. The big one is genetics. In my case, RA runs in my family and I found that hispanics have a slightly higher chance of getting diagnosed than other races. Unfortunately, there is no one set of genes that cause the pain and inflammation. Doctors believe it’s a combination of genes that trigger one another that can lead to the development of RA.
Like most other diseases your lifestyle also plays a huge role in an onset of a flare up. Obesity, smoking, and in general less than healthy lifestyle can trigger the development in pain and stiffness. If you do catch yourself with a flare up and don’t have an opportunity to get tested for months, coronavirus did put a stop on a lot of appointments for chronic illness, you can take some at home measures until you can see a specialized physician that would help you figure out your action plan. Not all RA is the same and a medication can work for some but not for others. Alternate between hot and cold treatments. While it sounds counterproductive, the cold relaxes the joint swelling & inflammation while heat relaxes your muscles and produces blood flow. You can do this from applying a cold compress for 15 minutes then applying a warm, damp towel to the affected area. You can also purchase pouches that are microwavable and can handle cold temperatures. Meditation also has been shown to have some help in this arena as the autoimmune disease itself can get triggered with stress. The more you relax, the easier your joints will handle the flare up. Exercise has been shown to help along with releasing stress and stretching your joints. While you may not be excited for movement during this time, take it easy. Try walking, strength training to make sure your muscles and joints remain strong, yoga.
Hormones have also been shown as a trigger, women have been shown to develop RA in their joints - three times as likely as males. This is where age kicks in, most women begin to develop the symptoms between the ages of 30 to 60. Due to these findings, doctors and researchers have come to believe that if your progesterone and estrogen levels (aka your reproductive hormones) stay healthy you can reduce the risk of triggering an RA flare up (or inflammation period). MODERN MOM
OR ANYDAY DURING QUARANTINE! WE’VE BEEN HOME WITH OUR KIDS FOR WAY TOO LONG!
by MORGAN SIGLER Mother’s Day is around the corner and we have been stuck at home for weeks during the stay at home order. With schools closing to stop the spread of coronavirus, you may find yourself working from home with a new sidegig: teacher. We all have a lot on our plates and don’t have the option to go to a spa (or anywhere) to relax and pamper ourselves. Which is exactly why we need to find ways to step back, to let our minds loosen up. Self-care comes in many different forms, whether it be a daily skin-care routine, reading a new book, taking a bath, journaling, etc. Whatever your interests are, you can always benefit from a day dedicated to your health!
Sleep In Mama For many moms, constant sleep deprivation is a standard feature of motherhood -- just like blouses stained with spit-up and Cheerios crumbs in every purse. “Mothers really underestimate the importance of getting enough sleep,” says Jodi A. Mindell, PhD. “Sleep deprivation has so many serious consequences for their health and their families.” So hit that snooze, tell dad to take care of breakfast. Give yourself some extras ZZZ’s! 16

At Home Spa Day Lock yourself in the bathroom and don’t come out until you’ve used all that nail polish, face cream, face masks and body butter you’ve been squirreling away for a rainy day. You can find lots of DIY face mask, hair mask, bath bombs, ects. online and most of them use ingredients you already have in your kitchen. Here are a few at home salon services I have personally tried and LOVED!
Gel Nail Polish Starter Kit $46.99 Amazon.com For those who want the full salon experience, this 32-piece kit gives you everything you need to shape and polish your nails like the pros, including six neutral, wearable polishes.
Netflix Marathon An evening (or a whole day if you want) of uninterrupted, not-for-kids Netflix is worth its weight in gold. I’ve learned that even though watching TV gets a bad rap as the “junk food” of media diets, it can be good for you—as long as you give yourself permission to indulge and relax. There are lots of good new shows on not only Netflix but Hulu, Prime Video, HBOGO ... the options are endless!
Kiss Falscara DIY Eyelash Extension Kit $19.99 Ulta.com If You Can Mascara, You Can Falscara! With the KISS Falscara Eyelash Starter Kit, you place the wisps under your natural lashes (not above them) for an easy to apply, comfortable, and amazingly natural look.
Kristin Ess Signature Hair Gloss $14.00 Target.com This in-shower treatment deeply conditions hair, instantly boosts vibrancy and shine, and adds dimension to color treated or natural hair. It will help your color stay fresh and your hair looking shiny and healthy between appointments. There are a range of tones including clear.
I saw this circulating online and it really hit home for me. I read it everytime I’m feeling overwhlemed or stressed. Give yourself some grace as we navigate through this. Be kind to yourself mama!
It’s Okay • To not know how to homeschool your own child • To not know how to work from home • To give kids more screen time than usual • To make a colorful daily schedule or just wing it • To not magically feel motivated to out at home or take on a new hobby • To NOT feel ok
This is not normal for any of us so please be kind to yourself

BAKE TIME 20 Mins

This very simple casserole is made with sausage, cream cheese, and crescent roll dough. A stable recipe in our house! If you have hectic mornings, you can bake it at night and just cut and reheat portions the next morning in the microwave.
INGREDIENTS • 1 pound bulk pork sausage • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened • 2 (8 ounce) cans refrigerated crescent rolls

Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium heat until crumbly and beginning to brown; drain. Stir the
cream cheese into the cooked sausage. 3. Roll the dough from one can of crescent rolls into the bottom of the prepared baking dish without separating. Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes. Spread the sausage mixture over the baked crescent rolls; top the sausage mixture with the remaining can of rolls. Return to oven and bake until the top layer is golden brown, about 8 minutes.

Oven Baked Chicken Parmesan Everyone in my family is a fan of this recipe. It’s the ultimate crowd pleaser! the best thing about this recipe is that it’s generally guilt-free! It’s a time saver because I bake all of the chicken at once on one large tray instead of frying it up two by two in a skillet. I like to serve with some pasta tossed in more marinara and either a side salad or sautéed greens.

•
1 jar marinara sauce, Rao’s recommended
•
1 bunch fresh basil leaves
•
1/2 lb fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Add the Panko to a dry skillet set over medium heat to toast. Stir the Panko frequently to evenly brown, 5 to 7 minutes, until the majority of the Panko is golden. Transfer the toasted Panko to large plate to cool.
2. Preheat the oven to 450° and place a large rimmed baking sheet on the upper rack. Season the tenderized chicken breasts with salt and pepper on both sides. 3. Set up your dredging “assembly line” by beating the eggs with 1 tbsp water in a wide shallow bowl to make an egg wash. Next, combine the panko, 3/4 cup parmesan, dried oregano, garlic powder, 1/2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp pepper in another wide bowl or platter. Lay each breast in the egg wash, coating both sides and allowing the excess to drip off back into the bowl. Then press the chicken into the panko mixture, making sure to coat both sides evenly. Shake off the excess and lay the prepared cutlet on another large baking sheet and repeat (line with foil or parchment to make clean up easier). 4. Remove the hot baking sheet from the oven and brush it with the olive oil. Lay the breasts on the baking sheet and return to the middle rack in the oven to cook for 7 minutes. 5. Remove them from the oven, carefully flip them over and place back in oven to cook on the upper rack this time for 5 minutes more, until they are golden brown. 6. Take them out of the oven once more and switch the function to broil. Top each chicken breast with 2 tbsp marinara sauce, torn basil leaves, the remaining Parmesan and the mozzarella. Pop into the oven to broil for 2-3 minutes, allowing cheese to melt and lightly brown. Serve immediately.

PENNYBIRDS ( you may have heard it referred to as mini games, early penny birds, penny earlies ) Pennybirds are quick bingo games we play in most of our GBF bingo halls. They are played one hour before the first session. One paper will cost you only a penny (hence the name), but there are two rules: 1.) First, you must buy into the bingo game of the day to play. Paper or computer, it does not matter. 2.) Second, you must buy at least 25 cents worth of pennybirds at a time.
If you would like to try it out, please visit any of our Golden Bingo Family halls except Bandera and Ingram Late Night

MAKE & USE
FACE MASKS
COVID-19 is really shaking up what means normal life for us right now and we will need to settle into a new normal as businesses start to reopen and people emerge from their houses. This new normal will include wearing face masks, so let’s take a moment to talk about that. The reality is that wearing a cloth face mask will not fully protect the person wearing the mask from picking up coronavirus. Virus particles can pass through cloth and enter your body through your eyes. It is a requirement at all Golden Bingo Family Halls if you want to play. Mask wearing is not about protecting oneself, it is about protecting others. If 50% of people could be infected with coronavirus and not have any symptoms, that means that each and every one of us is potentially able to infect the ones around us. Putting on a mask means most of our own droplets carrying the virus will be caught by the fabric of the mask. If you do that and socially distance yourself from others, you are doing everything you can to keep others safe. And they would, in turn, be doing the same to keep you safe. So, if you think about it, mask wearing nowadays is all about the courtesy we show to others around us. It’s simply good manners. We were all raised to shake hands with people, look them in the eye, sneeze in our elbows or a tissue. COVID-19 is having us adapt those basic courtesies so hand shaking is no longer a good idea, but keep sneezing in your elbows and tissues, look into people’s eyes when you speak to them and - yes - wear a cloth mask or a covering over your face. It’s polite.
30
THE BINGO NUGGET // MAY 2020
Let’s look at some easy ideas on how to make simple cloth masks by ourselves. And remember, if you don’t have a mask, anything that covers your nose and mouth will work. Grab a thin scarf and multilayer it, use a bandana or a shirt with a rolled up neck. If you make a mask at home or have already been making them please share your pictures with us on facebook or at nugget@swipetrack.com
Texas is known for our Southern hospitality and manners. Let’s not forget who we are as people. We are warm, polite and welcoming. Accepting the concept of mask wearing should not be hard for us. We are all in this together, and we need to rely on each other to protect each other as much as possible. And while we do that, let’s not forget that what may be enough for 2 generally healthy people in H-E-B is not nearly enough for our doctors, nurses and first responders that daily come into contact with very sick people. As they try to help them and nurture them, those sick people cough and sneeze and our first responders need more than a cloth mask to protect themselves against the virus. Leave the surgical masks and N95s to them. They need it to be able to stay healthy and continue to look after us. MAY 2020 \\ THE BINGO NUGGET

Tortas Las Llardas and its owner, Omar, is a great “hole in the wall” establishments in Rosenberg, Texas. Yesterday (04-22-20), I ordered three handmade tacos with extra “aguacate,” and the staff did not disappoint. The tacos were fresh and tender, and the meal was prepared safely (all staff had on masks and gloves on), which is important to note during the global Covid-19 #pandemic. Tip: ask for their green sauce. It’s darn good!
