Gaming News

But Where Will We Park? The days of free parking at your favorite Las Vegas Casinos are long over. People are reminiscing over the days of inexpensive parking; with MGM Resorts International taking the lead to raise the prices and eliminate free parking all together at most of its Las Vegas Strip properties. The purpose? Las Vegas Strip casinos and hotels are looking to up their game and atmosphere as no longer a land of the freebies. You can look at paying anywhere from $7 - $25 depending on the location. Only Treasure Island will protect your treasure as it doesn’t have plans to begin charging for parking.

The Wolverine State is Shining While the end of 2016 was a bit rough for the state of Michigan and the gaming industry, things began to look brighter as 2017 saw a large pick up of gaming where it saw a 5 percent rise in March. Michigan residents are hoping for the passage of legislation that would allow for sports betting at casinos as well as the ever-popular online gambling within the state.

Back for more bingo after hit & run

Weird News

Plaistow, NH — Last week outside of a local bingo hall, Diane Colman, 68, allegedly hit another bingo player and drove away from the scene of the crime. The victim suffered knee and hip injuries and had to be treated in the hospital. The following week Coleman came back to her weekly bingo and was recognized by the 50-year-old victim who called the police. Coleman claims the victim said after the incident she was scared, and not hit, which is why she drove away. The police issued an arrest warrant and Coleman turned herself in on Wednesday. She was released on bail and is awaiting her arraignment.

Bingoholic This has been a really wonderful month to truly write about. With Cinco de Mayo kicking off the month, Mother’s Day in the middle, and Memorial Day at the end of the month, it truly is a month to be excited for. This month our writers brought some really fun ways to freshen up your life from ditching that resolution list that you may have neglected on January 15th (it happens to all of us) to some fun new shades for your toes to give you an at home pedicure – we are ready to jump into summer.

job and disaster assistance. Furthermore, during calendar year 2016, $19.1 million was deposited into the General Revenue Fund and an additional $13.9 million was allocated to cities and counties that share in the prize fees collected, due to the conduct of bingo games. The year covered by this report includes some key Division accomplishments. The most notable is: • A bingo industry stakeholder workgroup was created. The workgroup is comprised of various industry representatives of the bingo community and Commission staff. The purpose of the workgroup is to collaborate on industry related topics, rules and to review challenges and opportunities in an effort to better serve and improve charitable bingo in Texas.

Urban Bricks Hours: 7 days a week 11 am – 10 pm

The Rim 17603 La Cantera Pkwy Alamo Ranch 10650 Culebra Road Ste. 102 Just down the street from the newest bingo hall you can find what can only be described as a Neapolitan pizzeria meets a certain sandwich fast food place that chimes, “Eat Fresh!” At Urban Bricks you can pick and choose from the start; if you happen to have a gluten intolerance or dietary restrictions that means you cannot have gluten, gluten free pizza it is. If you’re going for whole wheat pizza, they have crust for you too. You can opt for the original Neapolitan crust that’s simply amazing. This time around, we all chose the Neapolitan crust. Now here’s where your artistry and creativity combine with your food. Remember when your mom told you not to play with your food? Forget about that and enjoy what you play with. With sauce options from spicy red to classic tomato, then over to olive oil and garlic, you can play around with

flavors. Cheese? They have you covered with mozzarella to feta and even vegan cheese. Pick your protein if you’d like to add some spicy pepperoni, sausage or sweet ham to add to your pie. You can finish up with loading on the veggies before it goes in the oven. The pies take about 10 minutes to bake so while that’s going you can choose your drink. If you opt for a salad, can begin on that. They have what could be my favorite salad with an odd combination, banana with spinach and almonds. The final touch before the pie gets to your table is a drizzle of your favorite sauce. Currently with 4 locations in San Antonio and three more to come in the next year you can enjoy your custom pie any time you want. (M.T.)

from Rotten Tomatoes The latest installment of the Fast and the Furious franchise welcomes two Oscar-winning actresses: Charlize Theron plays Cipher, the latest villain to torment Dominic Toretto and his crew, while Helen Mirren joins the cast after publicly lobbying for a role to sate her real-life love of racing. Critics Consensus: The Fate of the Furious opens a new chapter in the franchise, fueled by the same infectious cast chemistry and over-the-top action fans have come to expect.

RESOLUTION REFOCUSED BY: MELANIE TAWIL

If you’re anything like me, and statistics prove you are so don’t hide/lie, by May your promise (ahem resolution) is long forgotten and you’re hanging out in the comfort of spandex and knee deep in tacos. Before you throw in the towel and say better luck in 2018, there’s still hope. Summer season is by far one of the most difficult times to clean up your life: I really want a taco. Taco, my love, mi cariño… I get the craving maybe twice a day at a minimum. To me, nothing says summer and tacos like fish tacos. These are perfect for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations as well as just any day. The fish will give you an added bonus of Omega-3s. Be careful with your fish selection though, keep an eye on mercury counts in fish as that varies throughout the season. So you’re going to a barbecue? Side note: I went vegan for Lent and have been a vegetarian for a little over two years; I struggled with the summer barbecue invite for two barbecue seasons but with the help of the Internet and friends, this became a breeze. A staple in any barbecue – roasted corn, elote, can be eaten any which way. However, it can quickly become a difficult situation full on. Easy, go for the corn in a cup salad (recipe on the next page).

THE BINGO NUGGET // MAY 2017

I just don’t want to work out This quite possibly is the hardest time of the year to get a good workout in as you’re already dealing with the Texas sun and desperately looking for air as you run from your car to your destination breaking a sweat along the way. Aim to get moving later in the day as the sun goes down or early in the morning. If walking/running isn’t your thing, try some very simple stretches. Stretches can do you a world of good in these warmer months, so keep your muscles going. They’re also a great way to get your body ready for the day or to wind down.

Seasoned Roasted-Corn Salad Cups

INGREDIENTS

3/4 teaspoon sweet paprika 1/2 teaspoon light-brown sugar 3/4 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves Coarse salt 6 ears corn, shucked 1/2 jicama 2 small poblano chiles 1/2 cup packed fresh cilantro leaves 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 4 1/2 ounces queso fresco, crumbled (1 cup) 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice 1 cup sour cream

DIRECTIONS

1. Stir together paprika, sugar, thyme, and 1 1/2 teaspoons salt. 2. Char corn over the flame of a gas stove or in a broiler, turning with tongs, until blackened and blistered, about 3 to 4 minutes each. Let cool, then cut kernels into a large bowl. Toss with jicama, chiles, cilantro, oil, cheese, and lime juice. Season lightly with salt. 3. Place 1 tablespoon sour cream in each of eight 1-cup glasses. Sprinkle each with 1/4 teaspoon paprika mixture. Fill each with 3/4 cup corn salad. Top with remaining sour cream and paprika mixture; serve. THE BINGO NUGGET // MAY 2017

absolute beauty by celeste

Summer is upon us! It is now time to pull out your feet from the darkness of covered shoes and bring on the Sandals. You might not feel 100% ready to expose your feet to the world, so here are a few tips to get your feet sandal-ready and some suggested mani/ pedi color combinations for summertime!

Step 1 Before you begin, take a shower or bath to soften the soles of your feet. If you are short on time NO WORRIES, grab a warm towel and wrap your feel for a couple of minutes.

Step2 Grab these ingredients from your fridge { you may need to make a run to your local supermarket } 1 cup watermelon cubes 1 cup white sugar 2 tbsp. lemon juice 1 tbsp. fresh basil (finely chopped)

Step 3 Using a food processor or a blender, blend watermelon until smooth, mix in the sugar and basil and finally stir in the lemon juice.

Step 4 Massage this scrub into your calves and feet using a circular motion. The sugar and the lemon juice will help remove the dead skin cells, and the watermelon and basil will sooth tired feet. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry.

Step 5 Trim and file toe nails. Use a Leg and Foot moisturizer to rub all over your calves and feet (I use Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Leg and Foot Crème from Amazon $9.00)

Step 6 Pick from the following mani/pedi summer color combo suggestions, VOILA… you are now sandal ready for the summer! 28

charity corner

In October 1966, at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, two professors and a graduate student met to inaugurate a society which would involve persons of Irish nationality or heritage to do honor to the land of their forefathers. Dr. Sean Burke; An Irish born professor, at Incarnate Word College (now University of the Incarnate Word), Joseph B. McShane; a San Antonio native, third generation, graduate student and retired Air Force Colonel, and Patrick J. Dowd, a New York City, first generation, scientist and instructor at the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, gathered together planned the goals of an Irish Society. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016, the society has continued to further the culture and traditions of the Irish in San Antonio. In addition, members strive to be civically active volunteering to serve other not-for profit organizations. As ever, we invite all San Antonians Irish or not, to join us as we celebrate our heritage through various events throughout the year; including our annual Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Hooley every September, Donovan’s Run 5k, Shamrock Scramble golf tournament, and the South Texas Alamo Irish Festival, held annually on the second Saturday in March at the University of the Incarnate Word.
