I even got a chance to talk to Emig about the Holeshot Magazine cover where we featured him back in 2002 when he returned to Loretta’s for another championship. Pretty cool stuff! With spring just around the corner, we have the spring nationals that fire off in Texas over spring break along with all the night and day racing that is kicking off, so get your bikes out and get to the tracks! Opee was an amazing dog thta lived an amazing life! It all started when his owner and best friend Mike Schelin fired up his Harley and Opee jumped onboard right on the gas tank with his paws on the handlebars. Mike took him around the block and they have been riding ever since. His real passion was riding on the dirt and racing offroad. Opee has honed his riding skills by competing in 85 races. He knows certain comands that help him on the track such as “Dip into it” (for corning) and “Set it up” (for jumping). He always wears his helmet, neck brace, goggles and a jersey. His biggest sponsor was Canida All Natural Pet Food.
Opee raced for 8 years and competed in California, New Mexico, Florida and Mexico. He was part of Supercross Opening ceremonies and hung out in the pits with superstars like Ryan Dungey, Ricky Carmichael and many other famous riders. Opee has appeared in several videos and was featured on the cover of Cycle News. He has been in the pages of Racer X, Dirt Wheels, and even Holeshot Magazine a few years back. Troy Lee even created a poster that Opee and Mike that advertised the 2006 Lake Elsinor Grand Prix. This dog has even been on tv with ESPN!
Another cool thing Opee got to do was be on the cover of a National Geographic childrens book called”Animal Superstars” which can be purchased on amizon.com. Opee held an AMA card, Norra card, and a Score card. One of his biggest racing acomplishment was finishing the Baja 500 with 10 minuteds 24 seconds to spare! Opee had his very first and last race at Glen Helen. Besides moto, Opee enjoyed going to Loma Linda Childrens Hospital to visit the kids. Opee, the offroad puppy, you are one of the coolest dogs to ever live and will be missed by thousands! You put a smile on so many peoples face - Ride In Peace!

First Career AMSOIL Arenacross Win for Matt Goerke on Night Two in Wilkes-Barre Makes Him Sixth Different Overall Winner of Season Ginolfi Extends Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class Championship Lead WILKES-BARRE, PA. (February 7, 2015) - The fifth round of the 2015 season of AMSOIL Arenacross, featuring Ricky Carmichael's Road to Supercross, came to a dramatic conclusion on Saturday inside Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. As has been the trend thus far in the championship, another new named emerged with the overall victory in the Arenacross Class as Team Babbitt's Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki's Matt Goerke earned the first win of his AMSOIL Arenacross career, becoming the sixth different winner in eight races. In the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class, points leader Dave Ginolfi took the win aboard his Spinechillers Racing KTM to extend his advantage in the championship. In his first full season of AMSOIL Arenacross competition, Goerke has been one of the most formidable contenders in the Arenacross Class and in the first Main Event of the evening he put himself in position to earn the overall victory. Husqvarna TiLUBE TUF Racing's Kyle Regal began the Main Event in the lead, just ahead of Goerke and Motosport.com/Haeseker Racing KTM's Gared Steinke. Regal and Goerke established themselves out front while Team Babbitt's Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki's Chris Blose moved past Steinke on Lap 3 to take over third. Shortly thereafter, fellow Team Babbitt's rider Jacob Hayes slotted into fourth, setting his sights on his teammate.

Regal maintained his advantage over Goerke for half of the Main Event, but the gap between the two slowly narrowed in the closing laps. As the battle up front intensified, Hayes was able to make his way around Blose just after the finish line on Lap 10. Out front, Goerke was looking for a way around Regal and after several attempts, made the pass stick after the whoops on Lap 13. Regal attempted a counter move, resulting in contact between the two riders that briefly paused their momentum. Hayes closed in quickly as a result and ultimately made contact with Goerke, causing Hayes to fall to the ground. Both Goerke and Regal resumed out front, with Goerke in the lead, while Hayes ended up losing several positions. Goerke took the win with Regal second and Blose third. It was Goerke's first Main Event win of the season. Regal seized the opportunity again out of the gate in the second Main Event and took early control of the lead ahead of teammate Gavin Faith and Hayes. Blose wasn't far behind in fourth, while Goerke settled into fifth. In an effort to run down his teammate for the lead, Faith made a mistake in the rhythm section on Lap 2, allowing both Hayes and Blose to pass. In the ensuing laps, Hayes closed in on Regal for the lead and made an aggressive pass coming out of the whoops on Lap 6 that caused heavy contact between the two riders and forced Regal off the track. Once out front, Hayes was able to slowly and consistently build a gap over Blose, with Faith in third and Goerke in fourth. The top four remained the same until Lap 11, when Faith made a move on Blose to reclaim the runner-up spot. Hayes cruised to the win with Faith and Blose completing the top three.

Goerke finished fourth and his consistency on the evening (1-4), combined with a win in the RMATV/MC Head 2 Head Challenge, gave him the overall win ahead of Blose (3-3). Faith's late pass for second helped him secure third overall (5-2). Regal rebounded from his incident with Hayes to finish sixth in the final Main Event and claim fourth overall (2-6), with Hayes rounding out the top five (8-1). Goerke took a chunk out of his deficit to Hayes in the Arenacross Class championship standings, and now sits 14 points out of the lead. Regal maintained his hold on third, 22 points back. Blose and Slaka Wear KTM's Steven Mages round out the top five. On Friday night Ginolfi finished second in the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class Main Event, but on Saturday he enjoyed a nearperfect performance by going wire-to-wire. The KTM rider started the
15-lap Main Event with the holeshot ahead of Watson Metals/Compound MX Honda's Kyle Bitterman and Hillview Motorsports Suzuki's Steve Roman. The top three went unchanged throughout the entirety of the Main Event, but Ginolfi and Bitterman were never separated by more than a second. The Honda rider put on the pressure in the final laps, but Ginolfi held him off to claim his second Main Event win of the season. Ginolfi added to his Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class points lead and now sits 23 points ahead of Roman. A&Y Racing Honda's Daniel Herrlein sits third.

Monster Energy Supercross Comes East to the Home of the Dallas Cowboys! In the 450 class #5 Ryan Dungey comes out of the gate like a rocketship and gets the SueprcrossLive.com Holeshot Award with #18 Davi Millsaps in tow followed by #33 Josh Grant on his Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports. #94 Ken Roczen quickly gets around #4 Blake Bagget. #3 Eli Tomac charges up on #22 Chad Reed going into a right hand bowl berm and takes him high and over the Monster Energy tuff block. Reed hits the dirt but gets up and remounts. On lap six Roczen takes over the second spot from Millsaps on a left hand 180o turn after the finish line. The following lap #41 Try Canard chased down 3rd place Millsaps and they follow each other over the wall jump and Canards front tire makes contact with Millsaps rear tire and causes Davi to to a weird “loop out”. Canard inherits 3rd place but is about six seconds off the leader. On the final lap Dungey crosses over the finsih line for the victory and celebrates with a “heel clicker”. He later said in an interview that was the bests one he had ever done and that it was in honor of his teamate Muskin for doing the same trick after taking the win in the 250 class earlier that night. Dungey became the third different two-time winner this season, joining Roczen and Canard, and moved into a tie with Jean-Michel Bayle for 13th on the all-time 450SX Class wins list with 16. Dungey extended his lead in the 450SX Class standings to 12 points over Roczen, while Canard sits 23 points behind.

There’s always excitement in the air when the series heads east and comes to Cowboys Stadium for the opening round of the 250 East. It’s kinda like the opening round because we get to see a whole new group of 250 riders along with their new bikes, new gear and some new riders numbers to remember. In the first 250 East main event of the 2015 season, it was none other than #25 Marvin Musquin that won the holeshot award and coming right along with him was #47 Martin Davalos and the 250 east defending champion #1 Justin Bogel. In the first lap Davalos loses the front end and takes #55 Kyle Peters along with him as well as #200 Arnaud Tounas. As the race gets to lap seven #35 Kyle Cunningham out of Fort Worth, Texas goes down hard and the red flag comes out for a restart. Kyle was able to stand up and walk away! The racers line back up in a stagard start form with Musquin at the front. The racers take off and no one was able to really take any advantge from the restart and they were back at it. On lap ten #43 Matt Lemoine out of Pilot Point, Texas triples past #6 Jermey Martin to take over the number four spot. On the final lap it was Musquin that came to Arlington to take the checkerd flag and the early points lead along with the red plate. It was Justin Bogel in 2nd and Pro Circuit’s #37 Joey Savegy rounding out the poduim with a career best of 3rd!

All eyes were on #423 Vicky Golden who tried to qualify for the night show in Arlington. She rode good in timed practice but needs a little more speed to be the first woman to qualifiy for an AMA Supercross.

Shand: Well Carter, first off I must congratulate you on your dominating performances in the (2) Schoolboy classes at the Texas Winter Series. You are killing it! Carter: Thank you Shand. Yea, I’m really liking the Yamahas. They fit me and I’m having lots of fun. For those living under a rock and have never heard of you... give us a quick bio. I’m 14 and live in Lubbock, Texas. I’ve been riding since I was two, and racing since 2008picking up a few National Championships along the way (and smiles). Racing has allowed me to do lots of traveling and for that I am super thankful. I noticed you are racing under the Family Powersports network of dealerships. Wade Hoak and Morris Baker are two very solid guys to have in your corner. How did that sponsor-relationship come about for you? Family Powersports is a great group of people! One of their dealerships is located in my hometown and they pretty much have West Texas covered. I’ve known Morris and Wade since I was in diapers and they’ve always been a part of my program. I’m super lucky to have them in my corner. What are your plans for the remainder of 2015? I’m pretty excited. EBR has recently offered me a spot on their team, which is kinda late in the year, but I’m going to be on some top shelf equipment and Josh Rogers and the guys over there are great… so I’m stoked! So of course, I’m ready to go get some titles! Let's rewind a bit. A few years ago you were one of very few to come out of west TX., and have a Team Green ride. What did you learn from that program? I learned a lot. Everything from being fast on the track to having integrity in the pits. I give you a TON of credit, Carter. You have faced some adversity, but have always seemed to keep pushing forward. You are always positive and upbeat when I am interviewing you on the microphone. I guess your personality is right on par with your speed and talent... haha! Thanks, Shand. That’s one thing I totally live by. You have to have fun and remember, attitude is everything!
Obviously, growing up the goal and dream is to turn Pro. Where do you see yourself in five years? In five years… I’ll be dropping gates at the Supercross. Can’t wait to visit with you in the pits in Arlington. Who were the local Texas Pros that you grew up idolizing? I’ve always looked up to Andrew Short. He is the kind of guy that everyone respects. I’ve always thought he was super cool. Can you tell us a little about your training and fitness program? I recently started living with Zak Mashburn and his awesome family in the Dallas area. I’m getting great coaching from Zak and Kyle Regal, and getting to ride Monday-Thursday. I’ve always been a guy who only gets to race/ride on the weekends… now I feel like I have a real training program. Who are your running buds? My best buds are probably my brother Colby and Austin Forkner. (Austin is the one with the scooter from toys-r-us… He is a huge parkrat.) What are your interest outside of Motocross? I also like to ride scooters on flat or at a skate
park. It is super fun and is something to burn off some extra energy. It's been really cool watching your career come along. I am a super fan of the #128, as well as the Halpain family. Congrats on landing your first Holeshot Magazine cover. Thank you, Shand! This is truly an honor. I’ve been looking through Holeshot Magazine since before I could read. I’m blown away by this! DISCIPLINE, TRAINING THAT DEVELOPS AND CORRECTS I think most of us know the value of discipline, but few of us have been the recipient without some resistance. There is always room in our lives and motocross programs to improve, but few of us would readily make the changes necessary were we not prodded into change by some loving parent, teacher, instructor or counselor. Discipline is a part of life; our parents disciplined us, our teachers, in the workplace and understand discipline is all around us. But for the motocross racer, since it has all to do with athletics, there needs to be a special measure of discipline. For those of us who struggle to self discipline, we need people who surround us to help us accomplish that. Hebrews 12 in the Bible speaks of discipline and one of the things mentioned is “He disciplines us for our good”, so in a sense, discipline is a good thing. It really is the training that develops and corrects, so it needs to be taken seriously. Secondly, we are to take our discipline courageously, we don’t give up and we are to endure the chastening and learn from it. Do we like all that goes with our personal motocross program, the training, the rigors of drills and riding moto’s, the amount of driving, the gym work, the countless hours spent working on the bike? Some do, but with the many students we have had in the past, we also see kids that are lazy, undisciplined and expect their parents to do everything for them. Sad, but in reality unless there are some major changes, the parents themselves are enabling their kids to be undisciplined and allowing them not to put the work and time in that it takes to be successful. We also need to accept discipline. Our tendency is to escape, but when we realize the importance of discipline, we can accept and learn. Parents need to see their kids present and future, and sometimes disciplining your kids is tough. A few more points. A) We need to respond with the belief that it is for our good. B) We are to respond to our discipline with expectancy, not with shock. C) We are to respond to our correction with submission D) finally, don’t rationalize the whole thing away, and be thankful for those who help us become disciplined. Liquid Nitro AX Tour (Rds 3 & 4) Mesquite, Texas Dec 5 & 6, 2014 The pro’s came out of the wood work for their chance to take home part of the $10,000 purse that was up for grabs in Mesquite. There was even a $1000 Texas Bounty paid to any pro rider that could sweep all 4 main events. The bounty was not paid out because we had multiple winners over the weekend in both classes. On Friday night in the pro classes is was #52 Mitchel Oldenburg wining the 250’s and #152 Sean Hackley winning the 450 class. One Saturday’s main events, we saw #43 Matt Lemoine win the 250 class and the 450’s. Fans were also treated to a freestye show preformed by past Holeshot Magazine cover boy-”Cowboy” Kenny Bartram.

Cycle Ranch Events Center turns corner to become South Texas' leading multi-purpose event destination Motocross’ popularity in Texas dates back to the early 1990s, but slowly degraded in the early 2000s. Although motocross had its peak early on, it has been slowly making a comeback, starting with one of the most popular venues in South Texas located in Floresville – Cycle Ranch Events Center. In the past two years, Iain Grae, owner of Cycle Ranch, has seen about a 50% growth of participation, including riders who visit from countries all over the world, such as Finland and Canada. “South Texas is the perfect place for motocross and different outdoor events year round. We have better weather and slow composition that makes our dirt better, which makes it perfect for dirt bike riding,” says Grae. “The ideal location really puts Cycle Ranch on the map for a destination spot to ride.”

Despite the track venue that was once solely for motocross, Cycle Ranch has progressed into a diverse facility that hosts several types of events. According to Grae, the property’s infrastructure allows the facility to be utilized more for a variety of different events held at Cycle Ranch. “After one of our events where we had live music, we realized the stage in the pavillion area was perfect for music performances,” explains Grae. “We felt that Cycle Ranch has the opportunity to reach out of its element, and is destined for more than individuals whom are interested in motocross, but to host other events for a wider audience. Music, for example is a big element that we should be providing to the consumer.”
A month after Grae took ownership of the property, Cycle Ranch hosted its first mud run event. Later on, the facility opened the door to more attractions such as The Zombie Black Ops mud run; where over 1,000 individuals participated. The progression continued through many attributions such as hosting top motocross competitions such as the AMA USA Motocross Championships Pro-Amateur. The facility has also recently expanded, adding a new arenacross track that was designed as a stepping stone for riders to reach their goals to become professionals, and a supercross track that allows professionals to train. In addition, Grae anticipates the growth of Cycle Ranch in the next five years. More
