Grandmothers Rock!! It’s joyful, funny, loving, soulful, memorable, bonding, cherishing, heart wrenching, and one of a kind! What is it, you say? It is the joy of being a grandmother!! Below are a few easy inexpensive crafts you might want to do with your grandchild on a visit to grandma’s house. What they want most of all? Our time. ~Edible Necklaces!!! Children will love to make these edible necklaces. It would be a great activity for a birthday party, rainy day fun, or a holiday afternoon project. You will need thin yarn or thin red licorice strings. Be creative and add food that will fit on the yarn or licorice, such as fruit loops, cheerios, pretzels, etc. Take some yarn or a thin string of red licorice and hold one end tight. Take the other end and string fruit loops, pretzels, chocolate pretzels, or any other snack that might fit through the string. String a few pieces on for the child and then let them try to string it themselves. Let them make their own creation! Tie the ends together and they can wear it as a necklace ....and eat it too!! They will be so proud to wear their fun necklace! ~Easy handmade sprinkler for fun play!! Why buy some expensive afternoon sprinkler to entertain the kids when you can use this cheap substitute! You will need a hose, a large plastic coke bottle, a tree limb, and an ice pick. (possibly some silver tape or a metal fastener to the end of the hose)
half and bottom of the plastic coke bottle. (do not let the children poke these holes) Connect the hose to the coke bottle and make sure it is secure and holds a seal. (you may have to use silver tape if it does not or a metal ring connect) Place over a lower limb on a tree or some structure that will dangle the connected water bottle in a downward direction. Turn on the water and watch the squeals of delight as they dance under the water sprinkles! How fun and easy is this! ~Paint with your toes! You will need butcher paper or poster board, finger paints, and two feet!! (plus pie plates for the different colors of paint) Take this activity outside for a lovely weather fun project! I suggest you paint on the driveway or porch. Yes, it is messy, but oh how much fun they will have oozing and squishing their toes in the paint colors and stomping on the paper. They will be so proud of the picture that they have made... and what is more fun than getting messy! Make sure you wash their feet thoroughly before entering the house!! Times spent with children are memorable and special. Children want your time and attention more than anything else! As they grow older, they will remember all the times you gave of your time to be with them. They never forget those cherished times with their grandparents!!

Should You Buy a flat weave rug?
By Kevin Pearson, Pearson Carpet Care
What is a flat weave rug? There are many types of rugs that are referred to as a flat weave rug. They go by many different names depending on where and how they are made. Some of the ones that you might have heard of are aubusson, dhurrie, kilim, Navajo, rag rugs, soumak, and different types of tapestries. Wool and cotton are the primary fibers used in making flat weave rugs. However, modern imitations of these rugs may use synthetic fibers. These flat weaves can either be hand woven or made by a machine. Flat woven rugs are generally reversible, since weaving allows for the pattern and colors to be the same on the front and the back of the rug. Flat weave rugs do not have a pile like a traditional hand knotted rug and so this gives the rug a different look and feel. Being on a regular vacuuming schedule, along with professional cleanings are important to keep your flat weave rug looking good for years.
A hand woven flat weave rug made in the Middle East might have considerable value. Advantages of a flat weave rug compared to other rug styles: 1. Flat weave rugs are generally priced affordably compared to hand knotted rugs of the same size. This is great for someone wanting a nice rug without the high price. 2. A hand woven flat weave rug made in the Middle East might have considerable value. 3. The pattern and colors are the same on both sides of the rug making either side useable. 4. Flat weaves come in many different designs and colors that will match most any decor. 5. Flat weave rugs usually weigh a lot less than a same size
6 The Whole Kid and Kaboodle Fall 2015
rug with a pile. This makes it easier to be moved around by one person. 6. These rugs fold up to a small size for easy storage when not in use. Disadvantages of a flat weave rug compared to other rug styles: 1. Flat weave rugs tend to slide around and can be a trip and fall hazard if they don’t have a good quality rug pad under them. 2. Even for an experienced rug professional, it is difficult to tell the difference between a hand woven and machine made flat weave.
These fringes may fray over time especially if a vacuum cleaner with a brush bar is used on them 3. Since these rugs are not as thick as rugs with a pile, they are will not hide spots and spills as well as a rug with a pile. 4. Some rugs may curl on the edges after cleaning. This typically happens on rugs with a cotton foundation. 5. Some flat woven rugs may be marked by the weaver on the warp yarns showing the pattern they are to follow using ink or colored chalk that may not be colorfast. Once the rug is woven the markings will not be visible. So there is no way for a cleaner to know if the markings will show up when he cleans the rug. Any resulting bleeding from these markings is not the cleaners fault. This does not happen on every flat weave but is something that should be considered before purchasing. 6. As with other handmade rugs, the fringes on a flat weave are the warp yarns of the rug. These fringes may fray over time especially if a vacuum cleaner with a brush bar is used on them. Child Brain Based Problems When the “Right” Goes Wrong
From the moment the brain starts growing in the womb to the moment of birth (and possibly up to the age of two), the right brain is dominant and undergoes the most development. The first two years of life are very important. The brain (especially the right hemisphere of the brain) is very susceptible to negative emotional influences, as well as anything that interferes with prenatal development - including the birthing process and an unhealthy lifestyle during these first two years. All of these things can greatly affect the way the right brain grows and develops. This probably explains why right brain problems are more common than left. As we discussed in the last article, the entire brain works together as one. However, each part of the brain has different assignments and priorities. The right brain is known as the “big picture” view of the world. You might say that it sees the forest, but doesn’t see the trees. There are many things that are controlled mainly in the right brain; these include gait (the way you walk), balance, posture, and even our ability to know where our body is in space. This will be very important when we discuss what happens when the right brain has problems.
The right brain is known as the “big picture” view of the world. You might say that it sees the forest, but doesn’t see the trees. Included in the right brain is nonverbal communication. The right brain is considered the social and emotional side of your brain. Therefore the right brain operates on sensory controls, (it responds to senses and feelings). The right brain is also the cautious brain. Because the right brain is sensory and cautious, it is responsible for attention. Additionally, it controls impulses and inappropriate social behavior. The right brain loves variety, becoming easily bored with routine. With these things in mind, what kind of symptoms or conditions might children with a right brain deficiency experience? They tend to have

poor muscle tone and posture and sometimes on odd or unusual gait. Because they have delayed or poor motor skills, it also affects their coordination, rhythm, and balance. Therefore they appear clumsy and may fall for no good reason.
One of the most glaring examples of right brain deficiency is very poor attention spans. They are anxious and impulsive and may even be compulsive One of the most glaring examples of right brain deficiency is very poor attention spans. They are anxious and impulsive and may even be compulsive. Since the right brain is the social brain, a child with right brain deficiency may be lacking in social skills, which sometimes results in difficulty making friends, and doing things that are socially inappropriate. Because the right brain uses sensory, it is very good at reading people but not necessarily good at reading and understanding words. As a result, they may have trouble with verbal skills; in addition, they may be able to read but not be good at interpreting what they read. The right brain is the immune system’s brake or balance; hence they tend to have a hyperactive immune system, leading to conditions such as asthma, allergies, and autoimmune conditions (also food sensitivities and digestive problems may be common). These immune and organ disregulation problems may lead to inflammation in the body and brain and even a rapid heartbeat. Dr. Lewis M. Morning People and the Fruit of the Spirit by Chris Steward Morning people. Seriously. Morning people. I never could fully understand how a man or woman could rise at 5:30am, sit at a table in silence, alone with their thoughts, holding what seemed to be perfection from a Columbian bean in their hand and say, “this is my favorite time of day.” You have to understand, although I am a youth pastor, that doesn’t mean I am young and will “understand when I get older”. Reaching the prime age of 32 I still didn’t get it. I tried to enjoy waking up this early and sitting in silence, yet all I wanted to do was simply sleep. However, on September 11, 2013 my life changed. After 9 years of marriage, doctors explaining that the chances of this event happening were as good as me betting on Tiger Woods making a comeback. It simply wasn’t supposed to be in the cards for me. Yet, this day came to pass. My beautiful baby girl Madilyn was born. The child I had always dreamed of yet was afraid of. It was a good nervous, one that I embraced immediately. I had never known love like this before.
September 11, 2013 my life changed The majority of you reading this probably understand that feeling. The moment his or her little hand wraps around your pinky. The first instance that your cheeks settle into one another and you simply want to freeze time. Moment after moment you find yourself checking on them because you “thought you heard something”, or you just find it easy to spend hours looking into the crib just “because”. There is something unexplainable that happens to a parent when their baby is born. Then it happens. They start moving. They begin to crawl, then walk, then run. They begin to slobber, babble, say one word, then two words, full sentences, and before you know they have a mind of their own. You are amazed because they are just like you. They are sweet like you, tender hearted like you, and stubborn like you. Their personality seemingly comes out of nowhere. You knew it was going to happen but not this fast. That’s it. That’s the moment when your patience begins to be tested. You begin to correct them and they learn the magic word no. They figure out how to shrug their shoulders. The ability of running away becomes the new favorite response. As innocent as it may be, if we are honest with ourselves, our patience is tested rapidly and with huge strides. The key to
10 The Whole Kid and Kaboodle Summer 2015
managing our response and holding our peace is to hold onto the promises of God. Sounds easy right? Every parent with a two year old will agree, not when their child is using sharpie on the couch or putting yet another mystery item in the toilet and flushing.
They are sweet like you, tender hearted like you, and stubborn like you. Galatians 5:22-23 explains what the fruits of the spirit are. I find it interesting that as Paul listed the fruits he puts patience fourth. The three that precede patience are love joy and peace. I have found that if I practice love with my child patience comes easier in the situation. If I practice joy then patience is second nature. If I practice peace-making patience is then quickly extended to my child. May I remind you that your father/mother heart comes from God and God alone. He placed inside of you the ability to be gracious with your children and show compassion. Mathew 9:36 shows us that even Jesus looked upon His children with compassion “for they are like sheep without a Shepard.” In the day-to-day life it is easy to get frustrated and inpatient with your son or daughter, but if you will just apply these scriptures you will see how quickly your heart will melt. The memories of tiny hands wrapping around pinky’s, first giggles, the excitement of you just walking into the room all comes flooding back. There is a time and place for everything. Now that I have been doing this for awhile, I am quickly understanding why 5:30am is becoming my favorite time of the day.

CLEAN FOODS WHAT ARE THEY Clean foods are foods that are organically grown and cultivated, and eaten with no processing. Many years ago, someone told me that I should be eating ‘live’ foods, and not ‘dead’ foods. Now at that time, I did not know anything about natural health. I had been fortunate to have grown up relatively disease free/ symptom free/pain free, so as you can imagine, I took my health for granted. When I think of ‘live’ food, I think of food (like beef) that walks around on all fours before he heads to the slaughterhouse. When ‘live’ foods were explained to me, I wasn’t interested. I like food that is cooked. I enjoy an occasional salad, but surely one cannot live without toll-house cookies and spaghetti marinara! I am older and wiser. I have lost a husband to the ravages of cancer treatment. I am much more concerned about clean foods.
be surprised to learn that if you will grocery shop just the perimeter of the store, you will avoid much processed (dead) foods, and will be choosing mostly fresh (live) foods. We are a society that wants everything instant. Instant coffee, instant meals, instant gratification. We need to understand that it takes time and preparation to nourish ourselves correctly. Take a look at the food pyramid. There are several to choose from. I just completed a google search, and the offerings are endless. Some are funny and some are outrageous. The main point is that we will compare a SAD food plan and a healthy food plan. Notice the difference in the number of portions suggested. The standard pyramid we all remember from school health class:
Cancer feeds on sugar. If you or someone in your family is struggling with cancer, you need to know that a full 40% of cancer related deaths are due to malnutrition. Proper nutrition builds the body’s tissues, and therefore makes them more resilient against the ravages of chemo and radiation. Cancer feeds on sugar. Almost all holistic professionals know this, and we advise our loved ones to steer clear of sugar if they want to avoid setting up a cancer conducive environment. If you already HAVE cancer, sugar- laden foods will support the cancer instead of helping to strengthen the immune system. The human body is self-regulating and self-repairing. The cancer patient has lost that ability for some rea-
The Standard American Diet (SAD) is just that, sad! son. (The Quest for the Cure) Nutrition is part of that mechanism. Hydration is also part of the nutrition equation. It is recommended that everyone consume one-half his body weight (in ounces) of good clean water daily. Many people do not like water, or they consume things such as energy drinks, sodas, coffee, and tea--anything but water! If you don’t like water, try some of these suggestions: add lemon or lime to your water; infuse a pitcher of water with fruit or herbs; try sparkling water; try flavored water. The list goes on….. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is just that, sad! If you look around at the food products, you might

And now the healthy pyramid:
As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words! In closing, try to remember these things: We are what we assimilate out of our diet. If we eat good clean foods and drink good clean water then we will have a good clean body. Shop the periphery of the grocery store. Choose food that you recognize as growing from a plant. Vastly reduce the amount of sugar in the diet. Until next time, Dr. Polly

Six Essentials for Successful Single Parenting As a single parent Father, I would like to share my journey of single parenting from the perspective of a tour guide versus a travel agent. Travel agents send you destinations and places they’ve never been. However, your guides go with you on the journey and are able to show you places they have been. Faith – My son and I were both actively involved in our local church. We volunteered and went on short term mission trips. Modeling the importance of serving others was key in helping the both of us discover we were created to make a difference. Family - My immediate family support offered me the opportunity to graduate from college with a Business Degree in Marketing. The support from my parents and siblings were extremely essential. My son’s mother, due to circumstances at the time, wasn’t an active participant although the door of opportunity to see him and spend time with him was always available.
flexibility we needed to bond with one another. We were able to experience his school activities together. I even served on the school board and picked him up from school the majority of the time. Fun - Travel was a big part of our life. Every year we’d go on a family vacation. We’ve been on multiple cruises, back packing excursions, white water rafting and Disney World to name a few. We needed the break to relieve the stress and tensions that occurs in every family. Travel created memorable experiences which we still share.
Forgiveness - Be willing, as a parent, to say, I’m sorry, please forgive me. Being transparent produces intimacy. Parents make mistakes and so do children. Don’t allow your adult your guides go child to bring up all that with you on the journey and are you’ve done wrong as a able to show you places parent; trust me it will they have been. happen.
Friends - The majority of our friendships developed through our involvement in church. My son’s children’s church teachers are my best friends still today. Other key friendships were developed through my involvement in a men’s small group. We met weekly to discuss how to be better

Five ways teachers are harnessing technology to enhance learning
By Dr. Guy Sconzo Humble ISD Superintendent
Students’ passion for digital devices and going online presents amazing opportunities in education. Here are five ways -- from hundreds of examples in Humble ISD -that illustrate how teachers are harnessing technology to enhance learning.
1. Classroom online social networking In some classes, students interact with each other outside of the school day though a safe social networking platform called Edmodo. Edmodo is similar to Facebook, except that is a closed-system controlled by the teacher. Eagle Springs Elementary School fifth grade teacher Theresa Drew explains: “You have discussion going on even when you’re not in school.” Teachers read and approve posts before the class views them. Parents can see what their child sees. Because students find the platform interesting, they make posts after school such as: “I’ve lost my spelling words. Does anyone have a list?” or “I don’t understand the math homework about expanded form with decimals. Can you help?”
2. Plickers Teacher use Plickers to quickly check students’ understanding of concepts. Teachers distribute a set of cards with answers linked to QR codes and then project a question on the board. After giving students time to solve the problem, students show their cards. The teacher scans the classroom with the Plickers app and receives information on how each student answered. The teacher then knows if students understand the concept, or require review. To students, it feels like a game. “When I say we’re done with Plickers today, they’re like, ‘No! Give us more questions!’” Drew said.
“When I say we’re done with Plickers today, they’re like, ‘No! Give us more questions!’”
3. Video-based instruction as homework When it comes to math homework, students might spend hours on a problem and still not figure it out. Eventually, some give up and feel defeated. “I wanted a solution to fix their frustration,” Creekwood Middle School math teacher Brittany Templeton said. Her solution was to make videos that students watch as
20 The Whole Kid and Kaboodle Fall 2015
homework. The videos show her working example problems. Students take notes for homework and work a few problems independently, but the majority of problems are worked the next day in class. “I am trying to bring out the love of math in everyone by not putting them in that frustration zone at home,” Templeton said.
4. Text message reminders Students and parents say they particularly appreciate text message reminders, so many teachers are using the Remind app to issue reminders about homework and test dates.
5. Career-focused technology electives Because so many students want to enroll in the Animation elective at Atascocita High School, it is now offered five periods a day. The popularity of video games, digital scoreboards and Anime films helps drive interest. Teacher Ann Wehrman teaches students to use industry software while also coaching students on the attitudes and behaviors they will need as professionals. Animation students learn to convey their ideas and accept feedback by completing team projects.
Because so many students want to enroll in the Animation elective at Atascocita High School, it is now offered five periods a day. I am proud of the ways that teachers innovate to fully engage students in the curriculum. What You Should Know About Nylon and Steel String Guitars
Read This Before You Buy! For new players, choosing the right type of guitar can be a difficult decision. This guide lists the basic features of two popular types of guitars so that you can make an informed decision when buying a Nylon String Classical Acoustic or Steel String (Acoustic or Electric) Guitar. Let’s start with the classical guitar. Some important Features of the Nylon String Guitar: •It has strings made from nylon filament. The thicker strings are usually wound with silver. •The nylon strings are not abrasive or tightly strung. This makes it a great choice for beginning guitarists because it is easier on the fingers. •The classical guitar has a wider neck than other guitars and the strings are spaced wider respectively.
The classical guitar has a wider neck than other guitars This facilitates the use of the right hand fingers for “fingerstyle” technique. •The body of the guitar is not as large as its counterparts. •The tone is warm, smooth and is often described as having a warm, relaxing or romantic quality. •Contrary to the name, classical guitars do not only serve the purpose of playing classical music. Many modern guitarists play a classical guitar for various genres. •Steel String Guitars (this includes electric and acoustic guitars): •A pick is commonly used to pluck the strings. •Strumming across all strings or plucking individual notes is the most popular method of playing. Some individuals use fingerstyle technique. •The neck is slimmer which reduces the distance between the strings. This makes strumming easier but playing fingerstyle more difficult. •The strings are made with steel and strung significantly tighter across the guitar. This means it is harder to press the strings into the frets. •The tone is usually brighter. •They are more suited for electronic amplification.

Time to Choose! Instruments of all types can be played at an advanced level. It ultimately boils down to who you are musically and which instrument represents your taste. No instrument is “better” than another and no article can adequately describe the sounds that they make. Take a trip to a local music store and try out some of the guitars. If you don’t feel comfortable playing it yourself, the store will most likely have someone there to play for you. Remember, you don’t have to buy the day you start looking. Take your time and make a decision when you are ready, not the salesman. Good Luck!
Contrary to the name, classical guitars do not only serve the purpose of playing classical music. Please call (940) 206-5488 or email info@ wolfmusiclessons.com with any questions or if you are interested in starting guitar lessons. Author: Blake Beckwith, BA Music – Classically Trained Guitar Instructor Blake offers Classical, Acoustic and Electric Guitar lessons and takes pride in successfully using the same teaching methods that accredited Universities use while maintaining a patient yet enthusiastic approach that is unique to the needs of each student. blakebeckwith@gmail. com

There’s nothing as welcoming as a family -run restaurant where the owners are there to greet you every time you step in the door. That’s what you can expect to find at familyowned Italiano’s in Humble. For the last twelve years, owners Al and Susie have been on hand every day, working hard to ensure that their customers receive quality, fresh, and affordable Italian food, with excellent service in a comfortable atmosphere. “Our motto is love at first bite”, Al explains. “I think people come here because they know they’re going to have a great meal every time. It’s a place where you can come for a date or with your family and enjoy great food.” Maria Rios, a regular at the restaurant, says that there’s no place in Humble like Italiano’s. “It’s warm and friendly. I love the bread! The salads are amazing, and I always order the chicken fettuccine alfredo. When my family comes to visit me from Latin America, this is the first place that I take them.” For lunch, favorite dishes like home-made lasagna and chicken marsala are generously portioned, yet still ring in at under $7. Fantastic New York Style pizzas and calzones are also available for diners who are craving a slice of some of the best pizza in the Humble area. Every meal is served with a complimentary serving of Italiano’s signature house-made bread knots, round bread balls that are crispy, yet chewy, coated in butter and sprinkled with parmesan. They are absolutely delicious. “People definitely come here for the bread,” Al says proudly. “We are famous for our bread knots.” There are nightly dinner specials like their signature Osso Bucco, a slow braised veal shank cooked for hours in a special blend of spices and herbs until it’s ready to fall off the bone. Salmon and steak specials are also regularly available, but there are plenty of classic Italian choices to please any member of the family . Lobster ravioli, shrimp scampi, veal scalloppini, linguini pescatore, and chicken penne ala vodka are just some of the many savory dishes available at dinner. Italiano’s also offers a business catering program, as well as a large banquet hall for parties of up to 150. Visit Italiano’s to see why they get four and five star reviews. It’s not just the food, it’s the love that Al and Susie put into it. Now, that’s amore!

It’s a mental game! Why do a lot of people get frustrated when they are playing golf? They practice for a while and then give up the game. It takes a lot of mental toughness to play this game. It’s a hard game and a game that you play one on one. Your competition is not the other players like in baseball, basketball, or soccer. Your competition is the course. Every course is different so every tournament is a new challenge. Let’s not even talk about the weather and how it can affect the same course. Let’s say that you get a triple bogey and get upset and angry on your play that day. You can’t snap and let that get to you. If you continue to get mad your scores will go up and in golf going up is not a good thing. You want to have your scores low. So don’t blow up.
A bad mental attitude is like a virus. It keeps spreading.
about all the shots the first day. Then I thought about how I can change my play and attitude. I prepared myself mentally and said that I could compete on this course. In the 3Rd round I scored 9 pars, 6 bogeys, and 3 double bogeys and I
had several putts just lip out. The difference in attitude made me play better against the top girl players in the world. I learned to never give up.
Some pointers on how prepare for a tournament:
Golf is about playing the next shot. A bad mental attitude is like a virus. It keeps spreading. You have to get over a bad shot, keep playing and have fun. Don’t quit because you are playing bad. Everyone has a bad day and especially don’t fire your caddy as they are there to help.
I just had an experience this summer that I won’t forget at the 2015 Junior World Championship. The first and second round I did not play my game. I mentally was not ready to play, was very nervous as I had to play with no caddy, and was playing in San Diego, CA.
1. Tell yourself to always have fun! 2. Look at the holes to get a visual on how to play them. 3. Have a good attitude no matter how you play that day.
The difference in attitude made me play better against the top girl players in the world.
Keep golfing! - Bella Flores bellaflores912@gmail.com The 1st round I scored 4 pars, 11 bogeys, and the rest double bogeys on 18 holes which totally brought me down. In the 2Nd round I made 2 birdies which helped out my attitude however my short game fell apart because I was thinking

HANGING ON TO SANITY With school starting up again are you already wondering how you are going to juggle everyone’s schedules and activities and hang on to your sanity? Are you picking up dinner at the drive thru-AGAIN? Are your kids frantically finishing homework on the way to school because practice ran late? You have a master calendar and all the latest organizational apps so why is it so difficult to manage everything? It may be possible that your children are over scheduled. In fact, over scheduling is the norm today.
Are your kids frantically finishing homework on the way to school because practice ran late? Diane Ehrensaft, PhD professor at The Wright Institute in Berkeley says, Middle class children in America are so over scheduled that they have almost no “nothing time”, no time to call on their own resources and be creative. Creativity is making something out of nothing but it takes time for that to happen.” Our children today have a wealth of opportunities but precious little time to enjoy them as they are carpooled from one activity to another. Certainly sports, clubs and lessons can provide children with valuable experiences but too many scheduled activities may have a negative impact not only on your child but on the entire family. Many parents I work with express their frustrations: “If you don’t sign up for Club Sport along with the school sport the coaches don’t think you’re committed.” “I don’t know where we will get the money for Cheer Camp.” “If your kids get picked you have to sign up for at least two committees.” But we do find the money, chair the committees and enroll our children in Club Sports.
Moms and Dads stress out because they are willing to sacrifice so much for their children. Parents tell me that it is necessary in order for their children to get into college, hopefully get a scholarship or maybe even become a professional athlete. There is nothing wrong with these aspirations but I have seen kids so burnt out mentally and physically in their last years of high school that they don’t even want to play sports in college. Ken Gonsalves, freshman admissions director at Cal Berkeley tells me that most colleges look for a well rounded student. Grades and test scores are important but a creatively written
30 The Whole Kid and Kaboodle Fall 2015
personal statement is the best way for an applicant to distinguish his or herself. Most parents are trying to raise well rounded, creative children but the goal sometimes gets lost in the myriad of activities. How do you find it? Moms and Dads stress out because they are willing to sacrifice so much for their children. Dr. Kenneth Ginsburg who specializes in adolescent medicine at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia states, “There is nothing more important for your child than for you to be doing well.” (AHAH!)
Unscheduled time with family without specific timelines, goals and plans is key to developing creativity and problem solving skills. Take a look at the activities and consider which ones are really worth all the stress they are causing. If you are constantly frazzled chances are your kids are also. What are you giving up? Is it family time, church, good study skills, proper nutrition, sleep??? You can add these into your routine by running errands together, cooking a meal or playing games. Unscheduled time with family without specific timelines, goals and plans is key to developing creativity and problem solving skills. It also signals to your kids that it is okay to take a break and catch your breath. Before the school year gets too hectic, give yourself a break. Take a deep breath. Determine what works for YOUR family and GO FOR IT!
