A Brief History of the

Association of Central Texas Sillimanians
t took more than 3 years of head counting, phone calling, googling, traveling, surveying, emailing, advertising, and fellowshipping, to finally lay the groundwork for the founding of the Association of Central Texas Sillimanians (ACTS). On September 3, 2007, a Monday and Labor Day, a group of Central Texas Sillimanians, together with their spouses, converged in the city of Kerrville, Texas to formally organize the group into an alumni chapter of Silliman University.
W
e certainly appreciate the efforts of the Rev. Dr. Frank Somera, Jr and Mrs. Nelly Somera, both of Copperas Cove, Texas, for laying the foundation and spearheading the organization of newest Silliman University alumni chapter in North America. It was their ACTS of love and their show of that Silliman spirit that will forever be engraved in the chapter's acronym - ACTS - or the Association of Central Texas Sillimanians.
The following Sillimanians and spouses constitute the Founding Members rs of ACTS: rs
Rev Dr Frank Somera Jr (HS '55, MDiv '66), Copperas Cove, Texas Nelly Somera (AB'61, LLB '65), Copperas Cove, Texas Samuel Tomale (BS Acctg, '73), (spouse: Pearl), Kerrville, Texas Celan Alo (HS '69, BSGS '74), (spouse: Noemi), Austin, Texas Bayani Pioquinto (BBA '76), San Antonio, Texas Haydee Pioquinto (BSN '76), San Antonio, Texas Adelaida Escalante (Home Economics, '67), (spouse: Dr Dante Escalante, Resident Physician, SUMC), San Antonio Texas Hazel Taglucop-Quisumbing (Elem and HS '57), San Antonio, Texas
PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
F
Irst, I would like to congratulate the members of the Association of Central Texas Sillimanians on this the 10th Founding Anniversary. The past decade has been very eventful and significant indeed. I am very honored to be given the opportunity to jumpstart and lead the chapter into, hopefully, a new decade of exemplary service not only to our Alma Mater, Silliman University, but also to the Central Texas community as well.
My overall goal will be to maintain and continue our Chapter’s commitment to excellence and service. Furthermore, I will encourage the membership to strive and to build better and stronger relationships. It remains a critical challenge for all us, members, to stay involved in our ongoing and future activities and projects. To all members - thank you for your service and commitment. All to our love for dear old Silliman. Remember, however, that in all our endeavors – we should always be Moving Forward with the Silliman Spirit!
