Certain events are annual staples in San Angelo - the gems that make living here unique and fun.
Here are some of the ones that should be on any San Angelo bucket list.
SAN ANGELO STOCK SHOW
The San Angelo Stock Show was established in 1932 as an opportunity to promote Agriculture to West Texas Boys, and eventually girls. The show started with cattle and breeding sheep classes and the market shows were referred to as “fat” shows. Since then the San Angelo Livestock Show has grown to be one of the largest junior shows in the nation. This even features over 40 different contests, competitions, and events for youth including cattle, swine, sheep, goats, llamas, and rabbits; there is something for just about everyone!
Though the foundation of the show has remained the same, it has evolved into a major show production. Students from across the State of Texas compete for massive prize monies, banners, buckles, and a spot in the coveted premium sale.
Besides livestock, the show features ag speaking and mechanics contests as well as robotics competition.
SAN ANGELO RODEO
The inaugural San Angelo Rodeo was held in 1934, three years after the first “fat” stock show. Rodeo in those days differs greatly from what it is today, but one truth holds true: San Angelo hosts a rodeo.
Currently held in the CRC Roofers Coliseum on the San Angelo Fairgrounds, the San Angelo Rodeo Committee is proud to offer attendees one of the best true rodeos that spectators can find today. San Angelo prides itself on offering a quality event from contestants, to stock, to production, and so on. Sure, there are some lights and smoke to make the event a true production, but what we offer is a rodeo.
Today, the San Angelo Rodeo is a PRCA and WPRA sanctioned event open to cowboys and cowgirls across the world that are members or permit holders of their respective organizations. What does it mean that we allow permit holders to participate? It means that great cowboys looking to get their first big win get that opportunity right here, while many other rodeos only take the top end cowboys in the world standings. Everyone starts somewhere, so why not San Angelo?
The rodeo features rough stock events such as bull riding, saddle bronc riding, and bareback riding, as well as timed events like team roping, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, and women’s barrel racing. Another unique feature of San Angelo is our crowd. West Texans love rodeo as much, if not more, than any other group of people, and they know what a good rodeo is. This is one of the only, if not only, location in the world that tie-down ropers get a louder cheer from the crowd than a bull rider. The fan base truly understands the work cowboys and cowgirls put into this career and stand behind them completely.
SHOWDOWN IN SAN ANGELO
The drag boat engines roar to life, drivers watching the flag before they take off, racing on the waters of Lake Nasworthy.
The race runs on a west-to-east course in a channel that allows spectators to find spots along both sides of the lake, at Spring Creek Park and Grassy Meadows.
Pro and Sportsman boats are featured in the races, some moving up to 250 mph and throwing water 50 feet in the air.
Showdown in San Angelo is now in San Angelo in June and September at Spring Creek Marina.
A STAR SPANGLED BANNER
Many communities put on big 4th of July celebrations, but A Star Spangled Banner event has the largest firework show in the area. The concert takes place at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial RiverStage and draws more than 25,000 people. The concert includes live music and a firework extravaganza. The concert includes a selection of patriotic music along with Fort Concho cannons firing.
Gates open for the event at noon and community band begins playing at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks at dark. General admission is free, but reserved seating is available. For more information hyderinteractive.com or info@dtsa.org
GREATER SAN ANGELO CRAFTS GUILD
Established in 1974 by a group of passionate to share their skills, learn from each other, and their handmade items locally.
Today, the Guild is led by 9 talented makers 60 members from San Angelo and surrounding
beginners to lifelong artisans with over 40 years of experience.
The Guild is a nonprofit 501(c)(7) social organization, which means it is member-based and focused on creating a community for people with a shared interest—in this case, crafting and making. This status allows us to focus on member support and educational opportunities, helping keep local makers connected and active. It also means we are not profit-driven and reinvest into supporting local artisans and community events.
We participate in monthly “Get Crafty” hangouts hosted by STEAM Central at Stephens Central Library. These events are open to the public and take place on the 4th Saturday of almost every month. While STEAM Central is the official host, Guild members show up to craft alongside others and are happy to share skills, offer help, or just enjoy creating together. Everyone is welcome—whether you bring your own project or want to try something new!
We organize three well-loved craft markets each year, where 60+ local makers showcase and sell their handmade goods. Products range from:

Handmade candles, jewelry
craftsmanship come together—and welcome new makers, hobbyists, handmade. Everyone is wanting to learn to the seasoned their creative items.

CHRISTMAS AT FORT CONCHO
Kick off the holiday annual event. Held during Christmas at Old Fort Concho twenty-four buildings into Concho visitors can experience with hundreds of re-enactors to life. During daylight will drill, ride, and shoot (blanks-of course) will definitely fort’s many original buildings, Texas and the Southwest shopping. A Food Court musicians and staged musical and the Children’s Areas for all youngsters.

Christmas greeting cards were added. In 1996, the opportunity to expand the event developed with a new and permanent home along River Concho Drive. The tour thus evolved from a walking tour to a driving tour.
In 1997, the Concho Christmas Celebration Opening Ceremony took place at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial River Stage. The ceremony featured performances by the San Angelo Community Band and student choirs from the San Angelo Independent School District. The Concho Christmas Light Tour now displayed seven major and twelve minor lighted scenes, twenty-four lighted angels, forty-six lighted decorations, thirty-six sponsor Christmas cards and over two million lights. In 1998, community radio station KCSA-97.1 FM offered holiday music through a community radio station to enhance the experience of those driving through the tour.
The Concho Christmas Committee added new lighted scenes and accessories each year. “The Tunnel of Lights”, one of the most dramatic Concho Christmas attractions, was completed in December 2001. Hirschfeld Steel designed and fabricated the hundred foot-long tunnel which continues to be a major signature feature.
Dubbed “Community Hosts,” business and volunteer groups now became actively engaged in Concho Christmas Celebration. Throughout December, the hosts serve as greeters, passing out candy canes and collecting donations from guests.
2001 featured the first “Lights of Christmas Parade”. To supplement the parade the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony moved from the River Stage to the corner of Chadbourne Street and Concho Avenue in 2004.
By 2006, “The Twelve Days of Christmas” was declared complete with the purchase of “Two Turtle Doves, Three French Hens, Nine Ladies Dancing, Eight Maids a Milking and the Twelve Drummers.” Also in 2006, Concho Christmas joined forces with the San Angelo Lizards to offer a non-competitive run through the light display. The event gained popularity and was labeled “Run Rudolph Run.”
Another partnership blossomed as First Christian Church offered a live nativity scene presentation during three weekends in 2007. During that same year, community radio station KCSA 95.7 FM, which had been airing holiday music, expanded into year-round programming (now KCSA 97.1 FM) broadcasting music of the 1950’s as well as community concerts provided by the San Angelo Symphony and the Angelo State University Chorus.
Today, the Concho Christmas Tour of Lights is a 2.5-mile drive along the banks of the Concho River and lit by over three million lights. Visitors remark that lights reflecting on the river appear to duplicate the amazing displays.
Presently, Concho Christmas Celebration has become a cherished tradition with locals and visitors alike.

A New Name, but Same Faith
When Pastor Brad Griffin stepped into the role of lead pastor in August not only church calling shaped by both a passion for God’s Word and a deep attentiveness to the Holy Spirit. Over the past two years, the congregation has embraced a new season spiritual renewal, community impact, and a new identity.
This year brought a significant milestone as the church embraced a new name: Abiding Faith Church of the Nazarene. More than just a rebrand, the name captures the heart of the church’s vision moving forward. To “abide” means to remain in Christ (John 15), and this word now anchors the congregation’s desire to remain rooted in God’s presence while extending His love to San Angelo.
From Pastor Brad’s first Sunday, his vision was clear: the church was to be more than a gathering place; it was to be a place where people remain in Christ and carry His presence into the community. His Spirit-led preaching and compassionate leadership have resonated deeply with both long-time members and new families. Worship has become more vibrant, and a renewed sense of unity has grown among the congregation.
This “abiding faith” is not confined to Sunday mornings. One of the church’s greatest joys has been its continued partnership with McGill Elementary School. Through school supply drives, teacher appreciation events, and ongoing encouragement, the congregation has shown that loving San Angelo means walking alongside
its children, educators, and families in tangible ways. For Abiding Faith, McGill Elementary is not just a ministry focus—it is part of their family.
There is also a stirring among the people that can only be attributed to the Spirit of God. Testimonies of healing, spiritual renewal, and deeper prayer have become more common. Guided by its mission (Matthew 28:19–20) and a vision to “be a faithful church, trusting in God’s Word, equipping us to reach people with the love of Jesus,” Abiding Faith Church of the Nazarene is stepping boldly into the future. The name change reflects more than a new sign on the building, it reflects a deeper calling to remain in Christ and to bear fruit in the community.
As they celebrate this new name and renewed vision, the people of Abiding Faith Church of the Nazarene look ahead with gratitude and anticipation but with the same faith. With a foundation firmly rooted in abiding in Christ, there is confidence that the best is yet to come!

For the past 75 years, Trinity has been providing a Christ-Centered education to parents who value a Christian education for their children.
This year, Trinity will serve the community by offering a Christ-Centered education to students 12 months old - 12th grade. Trinity has always valued the importance of building relationships with students and their families. Small class size, frequent parent-teacher communication, and opportunity for parental involvement help build those relationships. Teachers, like parents, have high expectations for their students and encourage them to excel. We want them equipped to handle whatever challenges confront them in the future. We strive to integrate the faith into all we do – memorizing Bible verses, attending worship, praying, encouraging and supporting one another.
We believe each student is blessed with gifts and abilities, we treasure the opportunity to work with parents to help students discover theirs. Instruction in core subject areas occurs each morning with fine arts, foreign language, and physical education each afternoon. Bible Study, prayer and worship are part of each student’s daily activities. Teachers use the most current technology to facilitate learning, including interactive display boards, document cameras, and computers for each student. A Stem Lab with makerspaces, 3D printing, VR sets, robotics is available. High school students attend core academic classes until 1:00, with the
option of electives and dual credit classes in the afternoon. Students may participate in individual sports, team sports, and/or e-sports.
Trinity will participate in the new school choice program called the Texas Education Freedom Account.
This program allows parents to enroll their child or children into Trinity and, if accepted into the school and into the program, the tuition and fees will be paid by the state. Parents will be able to begin to apply for this statesponsored program in January, but parents should start the registration process at Trinity now to hold a spot for their children for next year. We look forward to helping parents walk through this program as we plan for the new challenges and opportunities the new year will bring.

Every business has a beginning, and for Window Depot of West Texas, it started with a simple goal: to give families in our community the kind of windows and home solutions they truly deserve — products that deliver quality, comfort, and value. From those early days, our team set out to combine the strength of a nationally recognized brand with the heart and dedication of a local company.
As a custom builder first, I once purchased all my windows from the local lumber yards. It wasn’t until I had a serious issue with a batch of windows, that caused me to look outside of the area for something better. That search led me to Window Depot USA. Not only did I discover a superior product, but I also found the power of national group buying, allowing us to bring greater savings and lasting value to our customers right here at home.
One of the innovations that helped shape our story is the introduction of triple pane windows. At first, many homeowners didn’t know just how much of a difference an extra layer of glass could make. But once installed, families quickly noticed their homes were quieter, their energy bills lower, and their comfort levels higher. These windows became more than just glass and frames—they became a symbol of how we aim to bring long-term value to West Texas homes.
Looking back, our growth has been fueled not just by products, but by people. Twin Buttes Reservoir
Twin Buttes Dam and Reservoir, features of the San Angelo Project, are located immediately upstream from the Nasworthy Reservoir, about 6 miles southwest of San Angelo, Texas. Twin Buttes Dam controls the flows of the South and Middle Concho Rivers and Spring Creek. The full lake has approximately 9,800 water surface acres, 3,219 land acres and 55 miles of shoreline. It is accessible from numerous roads. There are very limited recreational facilities around Twin Buues Reservoir. Camping is allowed, but there are no developed campsites or hook-ups. Most public recreational facilities in
the area are located around Lake Nasworthy just below Twin Buttes Dam. Open yeararound for fishing. Available species include bass, crappie, sunfish, catfish, carp, shad, and drum. All project facilities are managed for the Bureau of Reclamation by the City of San Angelo.
O.C. Fisher Reservoir
Located five miles northwest of San Angelo off of US Hwy 87 and two miles south on FM 2288. The reservoir is home to catfish that have been caught on live baits and prepared baits. Among the flooded vegetation, riprap, humps and drop offs, largemouth bass are caught with minnows and artificial
