Allyson B. Davis was born & raised in Houston, Texas. After graduating third in her class from The Tenney School, she went on to attend Houston Community College and Blinn College where she majored in Business. Allyson is active within her community over the years whether in Houston or La Grange, including The Garden Club of Houston, Houston Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Grace Lutheran PTL, WCYSA, Unity Theater, Pilot Club, Red Basket, Rotary Club, La Grange Main Street Advisory Board, & WoodmenLife Chapter 302. Allyson is currently Chairman of The La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce Board & Vice President of the St Marks Foundation Board. Allyson is married to Marc S. Davis and they have one daughter together, Megan, who attends La Grange High School & plays on the Leopard Varsity Soccer team, and two step sons, Shawn and Steven Davis and one granddaughter, Parker Jo Davis. She has been in the Financial Services business for over 16 years with the last 4 being in management as an Area Sales Manager for WoodmenLife, with territories all over the SouthEast region of Texas. Allyson also helps manage several other family owned entities, Davis Energy Services, LLC & Houston Bluebonnet LLC, whose primary focus is Land Acquisition and Field Operations in the oil/gas industry and several commercial rental entities in Houston and La Grange.

Kathy Norwood is a certified public accountant employed by Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative, Inc in La Grange as their Chief Financial Strategist. She was the Senior Audit Manager with Curtis Blakely & Company accounting firm in Longview, Texas for 20 years. Kathy was also the auditor for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. She has a Degree with major in accounting from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Kathy is the Treasurer for the La Grange Chamber of Commerce. She is a member of the Auxiliary La Grange Fire Department, Lions Club, and Texas Women League, Charities committee. She has served on many church and benevolent group boards and committees in the past in Longview, Texas. Kathy is married to Randy Norwood and has four children and seven grandchildren. Kathy and her husband are members of First Baptist Church in La Grange.

Sherry L. Pfluger was born and raised in La Grange. She graduated from La Grange High School in 1983 and furthered her education at Southwest Texas State University, receiving a BBA Degree, majoring in Accounting in 1987. Sherry has two sons. Her oldest son, Hunter, graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Kinesiology. Her youngest son, Colt graduated from Texas State Technical College with an Associates Degree and two certifications in Diesel Mechanics. Sherry’s husband, James Pfluger is the Productions Foreman for John H. Young, Inc./Joy Resources. Her family enjoys sports, hunting, fishing and vacationing to beautiful beaches or magnificent mountains every chance they get! She began her banking career in 1981 and is currently the Senior Vice President/Lead Lender at Round Top State Bank in the La Grange. Sherry is an active member of the community, currently serving her third term as director of the Chamber of Commerce.

She also has been on the Board of The La Grange Baseball Association for many years, helping to restore and renovate the historic ball park at the Fair Grounds. Sherry is also the Treasurer for the La Grange Noon Lions Club, a great service organization in our wonderful little town. Some of the other past Board positions she has held and organizations she is a member of includes: La Grange Booster Club Treasurer, La Grange Little League Player Agent, Sacred Heart Youth Leader, Catholic Daughters Association, and the Sacred Heart Altar Society. Being a part of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce has always been an important and fulfilling opportunity for her. Sherry really enjoys getting to know and to work with so many great leaders for the betterment of the community and success of the businesses in our thriving area.

Debbie Kleiber moved from Madison, Wisconsin with her family to La Grange Texas in 1981. She is a graduate of La Grange High School and attended Blinn College graduating with an Associate’s Degree in General Business. Debbie worked for LCRA for 10 years before joining the staff at Kleiber Tractor & Equipment where she has been office manager for the last 22 years. She is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and currently a board member of the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce. Debbie is married to David Kleiber and they have 2 daughters and 1 son. She enjoys spending time with her family including her 2 granddaughters, camping, boating and traveling with her family and friends.

Jessica James is second generation owner and CEO of three local businesses: Texas Rural Health Services, Centex Supply and Rentals and 710 Management. Texas Rural Health Services is a residential and vocational facility serving individuals with intellectual disabilities. Centex Supply and Rentals provides service crews and rental equipment for residential and commercial projects. They are currently celebrating our 25th year in business.

Our newest entrepreneurial endeavor is related to tourism in the opening of Suite 244 Bed and Breakfast last year. She is a graduate of La Grange High School and received a BSBA in Business Management from Northern Arizona University. Prior to taking over the family businesses, Jessica had a 10-year career working for the United States Marine Corps. During that time, she held positions concentrated in management and training development assisting active duty and their families. She is actively involved in a range of community service and professional organizations. She is currently serving as a board member for Private Providers Association of Texas and Texas Women’s League. She is a member of the Noon Lions Club, La Grange Pilot Club, Second Baptist Church of La Grange and a First Impressions Team Leader. Jessica also is a Fayette County Leadership Graduate 2016.

Gene Carson moved from Spring, Texas with his family to La Grange, Texas in 2011. Gene’s wife Rebecca grew up in Fayette County and is a graduate of La Grange High School. Gene is a graduate of Spring High School and attended Sam Houston State University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration. Gene has worked 20 plus years as a Certified Public Accountant for several different companies in the Houston area. Gene is currently the Chief Financial Officer for Tejas Health Care in La Grange. He is a member of Second Baptist Church, Noon Lions Club and currently a board member of the La Grange Area Chamber of Commerce. Gene is married to Rebecca Carson, and they have two sons, Keaton and Joshua. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, attending Houston Texans and Houston Astros games.

Rose Cernoch is co-owner of Daniel Cernoch Plumbing, Inc. The business was started on December 1, 1996. Rose is the office manager of the business and does the accounting for the business. Before the plumbing business, Rose was the parish secretary at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for 12 years.

She performed bookkeeping duties for the church and Sacred Heart Catholic School. Rose is a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, in which she has served as Regent, Treasurer and Financial Secretary; Sacred Heart Altar Society; serves as Lector & Extraordinary minister at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also a member of the Tri-County Aggie Mom’s Club.

Rose and Daniel have been married for 42 years, they have 1 son, 3 daughters, and 8 grandchildren.

Holly Minarcik Morrill grew up in Fayetteville, where she graduated from Fayetteville High School and went on to study Agriculture Economics at Texas A&M. She graduated with honors in 2012. She started her career with the Chris Batten Insurance agency in college and continued it in La Grange as an insurance agent specializing in commercial insurance, farm and ranch, and agribusiness insurance. She travels all around the state and loves being on the go! The Chris Batten agency is currently ranked #2 in the country out of over 6,000 Nationwide Insurance agencies. Holly currently lives in La Grange with her two daughters. She is a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Hostyn. On top of a full time job, being a wife and a mother to two young girls, Holly likes spinning classes, cooking, and shopping.

Mindy is a native Texan, has over 20 years of marketing, accounting and business experience. She has been a licensed Real Estate agent since 2000 and licensed broker since 2003. Prior to her career in Real Estate, Mindy attended Texas State University, worked for corporate business and successfully started and sold one of the top salons in Austin, TX. In 2014 Mindy moved her real estate company, 4D Realty, from Austin to her hometown La Grange.

Following her passion for retail, she also opened the Prickly Pear on the square in La Grange in 2015. Mindy has an entrepreneurial spirit with family values. She has been married to her husband Mark for 21 years and they have two daughters, Halle (18) and Keslyn (14).

Ms. Deokie Ramlochan-Ramjohn, a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, serves as the Corporate Services Manager of AlgEternal Technologies, LLC (AET), a company focused on the sustainable application of microalgae as an alternative to fossil hydrocarbons. Deokie holds a B.A. in Business Management, from HerriotWatt University, with over 16 years’ experience in providing Corporate Services Support and Management in increasingly senior roles both in the private and public sector. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Events Management from the George Washington University School of Business. Since June 2016, Deokie has provided critical Corporate Services Management functions to AlgEternal, reviewing, amending, and creating where necessary, the internal policies, procedures, and controls to ensure that the Company meets and exceeds internal and statutory reporting requirements. She manages a team that supports procurement, logistics, accounting, and bookkeeping services for AlgEternal, to ensure that the Company maintains good Corporate Governance Standards. She is methodical, comprehensive, and anticipates the needs of the organization ensuring that operations run smoothly and without interruption. A logistics and planning expert, Deokie manages all Corporate events, planning and executing from the sophisticated and elegant to the informal and impromptu, within budget and on schedule. Deokie is also the Brand Ambassador for the AlgAllure® AlgaRiche® Skin Care, produced by AlgEternal and is a member of the Noon Lions Club and Rotary Club of La Grange, Texas. In her spare time, Deokie enjoys spending time with family, cooking, travelling, shopping and going to the gym.

Beverly Banks is married to Steven Banks. Both were born and raised in La Grange Texas. Beverly has three sons and a daughter in law and one precious granddaughter. Beverly has quickly built a reputation as the REALTOR to know with her dedication to the industry and the community it serves. Her servant’s heart has helped her business grow. Beverly makes a lasting impression on everyone she meets with her passion to help others and her relentless enthusiasm to be a standard of excellence in the Real Estate industry. She makes each client feel as if they are the only client and quickly becomes a tremendous resource for the people she helps. Her above and beyond approach to each aspect of her business is inspiring to watch and makes those that work with her so glad that they did.

For the past fourteen years, Cindy Stephens, principal of cindystephens.com, has delivered creative, results-focused communication solutions for Fortune 500’s, small businesses and entrepreneurs in over 40 industries. Her fresh, objective approach as a professional marketing writer and web content developer has resulted in setting businesses apart, getting them noticed and helping them grow.

And it’s helped to build her diverse client list of over 70 companies, including HCA Gulf Coast Division, Halliburton, Alcon Labs, Star of Hope, Arts for Rural Texas and Harris County Public Health, to name a few. Prior to going solo, Cindy developed, implemented and led internal and external marketing communication campaigns for some big boys including AT&T Wireless Services, CBRE, IBM, Hewlett Packard and NetIQ. She holds a B.B.A from the University of St. Thomas and her certifications include NIH Plain Language and Email Marketing Etiquette.

Cindy has served on boards for the United Way and the American Marketing Association. Additional volunteer commitments have included Memorial Assistance Ministries, Texas Executive Women, Fayetteville’s Lickskillet Days Festival and Good Old Summertime Classic, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, AIGA, Make a Wish Foundation, the Shell Open, Virginia Slims Tournament and the LPGA. Cindy is a member of the Lady Washington Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and recently joined the Fayetteville and La Grange Chambers of Commerce. She thrives on ‘60’s movies and any music involving a jazz saxophone, has sailed in international waters and is writing a cookbook for anyone that believes they can’t cook and a personal blog about her spontaneous city-to-country girl transition.

Welcome Letters Judge Joe Weber On behalf of the Commissioners’ Court and the Citizens of Fayette County, I wish to take this opportunity to welcome you. We are very proud of our county and feel that the quality of life here is unsurpassed. The cities of Carmine, Fayetteville, Flatonia, La Grange, Round Top and Schulenburg are charming communities within the county.

Fayette County is considered a very welcoming county. It is one of the few counties in the state of Texas that has a county wide recycling program. Our EMS service is one of the best in the state. We are blessed to have excellent schools, both public and private, throughout the county, along with Blinn College in Schulenburg. There are many great businesses that offer a variety of services and products not only to the people of Fayette County but throughout the county and worldwide.

Fayette is a historic and patriotic county and we are very proud of the role our citizens played during the Texas Revolution as well as other conflicts throughout the years. The veterans residing in our county are a tribute to our service to our nation.

Our community is blessed to have industrious, law-abiding citizens who have not forgotten their heritage and past, but welcome the prospects of a bright future.

History

THE MUSTER OAK

of Texas by the Mexican General Adrian Woll prompted Colonel Matthew Caldwell of the Texas Army to assemble a small volunteer group to resist Woll at Salado Creek near San Antonio.

Its spreading branches, though now reduced by the ravages of time, have served as a mustering point for men of the area who have gone forth to serve their country. It is also a monument to those who have given their lives in defense of their country.

Captain Nicholas Mosby Dawson, a young captain from La Grange, recruited about 15 men under this tree before leaving to join Caldwell. Two days later, before he could join Caldwell, Dawson and 35 of his 53-man force, some of whom were from La Grange, were massacred by a troop of Mexican cavalry.

Many parents, wives, and sweethearts have seen their loved ones depart from the shade of this tree to defend their rights in the War with Mexico, the War Between the States, the Spanish-American War, and the two World Wars.

The Muster Oak is located across from the Fayette County Courthouse, on the northwest corner of the intersection of Washington and Colorado Streets, in La Grange.

This historic live oak in Fayette County has become a living shrine to the citizens of La Grange and the surrounding area.

This twisted tree is doubtless the oldest living witness to events which have occurred on this courthouse square since Fayette County was organized in 1837.

The first recruitment of citizen soldiers under the tree probably took place in 1842. An invasion

HISTORY THE COURTHOUSE

About 1890, the structural safety of Fayette County’s third courthouse came into question, and plans began for the building of this structure to serve as the seat of justice for the county. The commissioners court hired San Antonio architect James Riely Gordon (1863-1937) to design the new courthouse and oversee the construction.

Gordon, who was 27 years old at the time, went on to become a noted architect of public buildings in Texas.

Funding for the 1890-91 courthouse came from the sale of $90,000 in bonds. Martin, Byrnes and Johnston of Colorado City served as building contractors. Gordon designed the courthouse in the Romanesque Revival style and specified four types of native Texas stone to detail the exterior: Blue Muldoon sandstone, Belton White limestone, Pecos Red sandstone and Pink Burnet granite. A central open atrium, designed to promote good lighting and natural ventilation, highlighted the interior space.

The extensive use of stone, along with the massive arched windows and doorways, exemplify the building’s Romanesque Revival influences.

The oldest existing J. Riely Gordon courthouse in Texas, the Fayette County courthouse was completed in 1891. It has served as a setting for social events, celebrations, courtroom dramas and political oratory, and continues as a center of politics and government for the county.
