Jerri ’s Corner When you think about our extraordinary universe and our life here on earth you can become a little rattled at the almost unbelievable greatness of it all. I would like to put it into simple perspective. At birth we left our Heavenly Father and began this adventure in life. We met our parents and depended on them for everything. They were the most significant beings in our world. Then as time goes by, we might have siblings and we will certainly have friends. They will become important in our daily lives. Hopefully we will have a great love in our life and possibly children. It is important for us to make our peace with God and follow Him as we lead our families. Then at some point our parents will leave us on this journey alone and there will be others that will depart our journey and leave a permanent void. This adventure will be full of joy, sorrow, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells but success will come if we give our best and have a good relationship with all that are in our life circle. Actually, we do not know at which point we ourselves will leave this great adventure so we must live in the best way possible by loving, forgiving, and being the very best we can. We must make sure that we know where we will spend eternity and when the time comes for us to depart, we should leave behind beautiful memories for all that are still here. 1st Psalms; Blessed are those that do not listen to the advice of the ungodly or stand on the side of sinners or live their days full of scorn, but they delight in God’s law and meditate on it continually. They shall be steadfast and not waver and whatever they do will prosper.

WHY HAVE YOUR CHILD’S SPINE CHECKED? By Dr. Lewis Clark D.C. People have often asked why I see so many children in our office and I tell them that most of the problems that I see in adults often started when they were children. So, let’s examine how spinal problems may begin in a child. People are surprised to learn that, according to research, the first spinal misalignment (subluxation) actually happens during the birth process itself. And, unfortunately, this is becoming more common as our culture moves from the birth being a natural process to now becoming a medical procedure. However, this is not the only time that misalignments or subluxations of the spine can occur, it’s just the most common. They can also happen as a child is learning to hold their head up, learning how to walk, and certainly from childhood falls and injuries. With that fact determined, let’s look at how a misalignment of the spine may affect a child’s development and, in particular, the development of the brain and nervous system. Because of this knowledge, I check my grandkids regularly for subluxations and also the babies in my family as soon as possible, normally within minutes of being born. It is also common for patients to bring their newborns in for an adjustment within the first week of life. To explain the importance, let’s simplify the function of the brain to only 3 things. The brain receives information, makes a decision from that information, and then gives output (actions, movements, thoughts, and emotions). So, in order to have good output, the brain must have good input. You have probably heard the saying regarding computers; “garbage in, garbage out.” This is entirely true with the brain as well. If the brain does not receive good and true information from the body, as well as from its environment, it cannot make good decisions and give good and moral output. So, spinal misalignments (subluxations) interfere
8

with the brains’ ability to receive input from the body thereby affecting the brain’s processing, as well as its control over bodily functions. Rarely, in our office, do we see children complain of pain. Even though a baby in the womb senses pain at 20 weeks, their pain receptors are not fully developed until the child is 16 years of age. However, we do commonly see other abnormalities in children including recurring ear infections, headaches, digestive problems, as well as recurrent allergies and sinus problems, and even conditions such as asthma. These are all commonly associated with spinal subluxations. So, my encouragement is to remember that kids have spines too and that 65% of their brain and nervous system will develop within their first year of life. This is why it is critical to your child’s proper development to have their spine checked carefully during this time by a chiropractor with experience in treating children. My hope is that this information will help parents to understand the importance of having their children checked for spinal misalignments now! Their future health is depending on it! God bless you and live life well! Dr. Lewis Clark D.C.

A TRUE STORY OF RESURRECTION HOPE! By Tom Battle If you have come to the end of your road, there is still hope. There is resurrection hope. Sometimes, coming to the end of one’s road means coming to the end of one’s self for the answer. When that happens, the answer is found at the cross. When you allow your old self-sufficiency to be crucified with Christ, like Moses, you are raising your rod over the sea of impasse. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead will begin to blow. Wind itself cannot be seen, but we can see its results on the objects in its path. God Himself, through His Providence, will open a resurrection road of deliverance and victory that previously was hidden. It is a road on which only the believer can travel. Spiritual enemies who pursue are swept away just as surely as were the Egyptians. Resurrection victory is the sweetest of all because it exceeds all natural expectations.
taught us about God’s love for us. The Holy Spirit is described in Romans 8:15 as “the Spirit of adoption.”
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. (Romans 8:15–16)
A beautiful example of resurrection hope was manifested in the lives of my son, Brandon, and his wife, Sarah. After years of trying to have children, they sought medical advice. Tests revealed that it was physically impossible for them to have children. This was devastating news for them, but they did not give up. They prayed for a miracle. They wanted children with all their hearts. Time went on, and nothing happened. They had to take their dream to the cross of Christ and leave it there, knowing in their hearts that somehow Jesus would raise it from the dead. Sometime later, after prayer, God dropped the idea of adoption in their hearts. They began to pursue domestic adoption, but everywhere they turned, the door seemed to be closed. They continued to pray. They still had hope. One day, a brochure from an international adoption agency arrived in the mail. On the cover was a photo of a little girl from China. Their hearts were powerfully touched, and they immediately began to explore international adoption. Their journey took more than a decade. They now have a beautiful daughter, Rebecca, who was born in China, and a handsome son, Joshua, who was born in Ethiopia. For our family, the miracle of adoption exceeds the miracle of the parting of the Red Sea! The experience of adoptive love has 10 Kid-and-Kaboodle.com
Adoptive love is the love that God has for us as His children. Jesus describes this powerful love in John 17:26, as He prays for all believers, “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” Adoptive love describes the transference of God’s love for Jesus to all of us!
I thank God that Brandon and Sarah had resurrection hope regarding the building of their family. As an adoptive grandparent, I can say that the fruit of their resurrection hope has filled our whole family with great joy. “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5b). There is hope!

In the 1950s, scholars worried that, thanks to technological innovations, Americans wouldn’t know what to do with all of their leisure time. What wishful thinking!! Today, Americans are overworked, putting in more hours than ever. Technology disturbs our leisure time, our family time and even our consiousness. Juggling between work, family and personal needs makes it easy to get sucked into the never-ending list of to-dos and end up feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

Humble ISD Centennial Celebration
Humble ISD is celebrating its centennial year. In February 1919, the Texas Legislature transformed Harris County Common School District 50 into the Humble Independent School District. Students in schools across Humble ISD have been celebrating with Dress In The Decades days. At Hidden Hollow Elementary, students created an Humble ISD history timeline. They researched schools, population, graduation rates, and facts about the decades since 1919 using the Humble ISD history website.

years as an Avionics Backshop Maintainer. It is such a blessing to experience this success in my life, with more to come. I don’t keep many ties, but my ties with the Family Hope Center run deeper than anyone could ever understand. I still go back and visit the Family Hope Center and every time I do, the support is still as strong as when my life wasn’t going well. I am beyond grateful for every single opportunity that the center gives to the community and I encourage everyone to take advantage of them and all the programs and services they offer. Most importantly, they offer long lasting hope and relationships. Without the Family Hope Center, I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am today. I try to encourage other youth and teens to move forward with their lives, in spite of their present circumstances, and reach out to the people who will truly support you and believe in your future! God has a purpose and plan for our lives. --For more information about the Center’s programs and services and how to volunteer or donate, please call 281-449-4828. Lauren Oliver an American Author once said, “I was a troubled teen and I was constantly looking for someone to throw me a rope. Those ropes are connections. They allow us to see that life exists beyond the little worlds we are currently a part of.” Growing up in Aldine, a low- income community, with no positive influences or role models puts a damper on the future of many youth. Fortunately for myself and many others, we have crossed paths with the blessings of Sylvia Bolling and the Family Hope Center. Before going to the Family Hope Center, I lived life not knowing what I was going to do in life, yet alone every day that I woke up. The efforts, care, and love of every staff member of this great organization provided the support I needed. My journey was not easy. I lost my mother at a very young age and my father wanted nothing to do with my brother and me, being left in the care of a sick grandmother. Growing up I always had big dreams, but life gets harder the older you get and without the proper mentors it can and will be detrimental. I had fallen into a bad crowd and it set me back from my peers and I went off course. Although I thought all hope was gone, I knew there was one place I could depend on—the Buckner Family Hope Center. Even after high school I struggled to get back on the right path till one day I just woke up and decided I could do better and I was going to join the military. I went from being a street kid to now a member of the United States Air Force. I have served two

SURPRISE!! BET YOU DIDN’T KNOW THESE INVENTIONS CAME FROM KIDS If you love to bounce, you can thank George Nissen. At age 16, he invented the trampoline after watching trapeze artists drop into the safety nets beneath them. He thought it would be cooler if they could bounce out of the net instead. The trampoline is nearly 90 years old; it was invented way back in 1930. A lack of paper towels helped inspire Abbey Fleck to create a new way to make crispy bacon fast. When her family didn’t have paper towels to soak up the excess grease from microwave cooked bacon one Saturday morning in 1993, the eight-yearold decided to figure out a better way to cook bacon. After a little trial and error, she came up with the Makin Bacon, a microwave-safe stand that allows you to drape bacon over it as you cook. The bacon is able to crisp up while the bacon fat pools in a bowl underneath it. Her brilliant idea helped make her a millionaire as a teenager. Christmas trees used to be a big fire hazard, back in the day when lit candles adorned the trees. But 15-year-old Albert Sadacca helped put an end to that in 1917 by inventing less expensive strings of light bulbs to add pizazz to the holiday— without the potential for burning the house down. 24 Kid-and-Kaboodle.com
One of the very youngest inventors was Robert Patch, who was granted the patent for the toy truck when he was just six years old, back in 1963. He built his prototype out of bottle caps and cardboard, and his invention was meant to be taken apart and refashioned into different types of trucks—like a very early Transformer. Like many amazing inventions, Popsicles were created by mistake. Eleven-year-old Frank Epperson accidentally left a cup filled with soda powder, water, and a stirring stick on his porch overnight, where it froze—and the delicious dessert was born. Nearly 20 years after his accidental discovery in 1905, he started selling his sweet treats. Now, we eat nearly 2 billion every year. At 18, Ralph Samuelson wanted to combine his passion for snow skiing with his love of the water and aquaplaning. In 1922, he built his first water skis from strips of wood by softening the ends and bending them up.

EASTER MIRACLE
By Beth Ann Johnson
In 1985 I had been married for four years and was a mother to a precious three year old daughter. Living in Las Vegas, NV. life was good , church was great and I wasn’t actively seeking a miracle when God miraculously intervened. Diagnosed with Scoliosis (curvature of the spine) when I was 13 years old, I had a curve between my shoulder blades which became very pronounced after my daughter was born. The unevenness of my shoulders was plainly visible and my neck hurt and popped all the time. This was just my lot and I was living with it, but I jumped at the chance to attend a ladies’ retreat in Washington State where one of the seminars was on miracles. A pastor’s wife walked us through most of the examples given in the New Testament. A lot of them, of course, were for healing of the body. She was really making the point that God still heals today and we need to believe Him for our needs.
right side between my shoulder blades and the curve was visible through my shirt. She said the same thing to me. “IN THE NAME OF JESUS... I COMMAND YOUR BODY TO COME INTO DEVINE ALIGNMENT!” Five other pastor’s wives were in the room and as my back began to ‘pop’ the ladies began to gasp...each time! With two or three seconds in between, my back popped five times straightening a bit more each time. It felt like when you pop your knuckles... I felt it but there was no pain.
“Jesus, I will sing your praises and labor for souls and tell of your mighty acts till you call me home.”
When we broke for lunch, a group of 60 or so women made their way to the chow hall. Another lady and myself were the last two in the room when she stopped and asked the speaker if she would pray for her; she had been born with one leg an inch and a half shorter than the other. She was Instructed to sit and then the pastor’s wife lifted both of the women’s legs parallel to the ground holding her full weight at the ankles. Her legs were equal to the knees, but one could clearly see the difference in length from the knee to her feet. One ankle bone was more than an inch off set and longer. The prayer was simply, “I command your body to come into Devine alignment in the name of Jesus.” IMMEDIATELY...the leg grew out and was now even with the other! IN ONE SPLIT SECOND! RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES! I then asked for prayer for my scoliosis and bent over with my arms hanging loose almost to the ground. I had a hump on the

I owe my strong faith to being raised in a Christian home. I give thanks to my grandparents who were true ‘living epistles’ and who lived the life in word and deed. I am forever indebted for their sacrifice and love...and humbled and grateful to be a Ramsey kid that truly believes and serves a God that deals in the affairs of men. He is real! He’s alive! And He wants to be your Savior, too.
