Hey bingo family! Thank you so much for supporting us as we continue to bring you the Bingo Nugget - June Digital Issue. The Golden Bingo Family marketing team has been hard at work making sure that you all get most up to date information regarding bingo times, pricing, and most importantly new COVID-19 policies and procedures.

This month’s issue is chock full of continuing on with playing bingo safely and staying healthy at home. Gentlemen, this month is all about you in Healthy Living. We know this time has been rough and you still want to stay in shape. But how do you stay in shape while maintaining social distancing, and really the only place you’re going is bingo? Healthy Living has a ton of ideas to help keep you focused on your body as well as your mental health.

Skin is in this summer! Senior Living we are ready for you to come out of this summer with the best skin possible. Ivy is bringing you the hottest tips to make your skin dewy and glowy like it never got touched by skin damage.

Modern Mom will get your family safe around water with her safety tips on how to keep the fun going while making sure that you’re safe during this season. Fire up the grill y’all, summer is here!

It’s June and we are excited to say that this is looking like the best month we have had in some time! All of our bingo halls are up and running, and yes - that includes the reopening of Rosenberg Day Bingo.

We are humbled by the outpouring of love and support you have given us during this time. It is our privilege to be able to serve the needs of our community, both by providing the charities with much needed funding, and by providing our players with a safe space to enjoy bingo.

In order to keep the fun going and keep our bingo halls a safe and welcoming environment for all of our players, we have had to introduce new COVID-19 health rules. Please take a moment to review them, we will recap them next to this article.

We know that these new rules are somewhat of a hassle. The masks may itch or make your glasses fog up. The temperature checks are inconvenient. It’s hard to sit far from your friends and you miss being able to hang out like you used to. We understand all of that.

Despite all of the inconveniences they may cause, the rules are incredibly important because they keep everybody safe. The health and safety of our employees, players and vendors is our #1 priority. We thank you for your understanding and continued cooperation.

Golden Bingo Family has always placed the health and safety of our customers, employees and vendors as our number one priority. With that in mind, we are now introducing a set of new rules that will help keep everyone safe and healthy.

Our COVID-19 precautions supplement our standard house rules. Please read these rules as we prepare to find a new normal.

1. Temperature will be taken for everyone entering the bingo hall. One must have a temperature of 99.0 degrees F or below to continue into the bingo hall.

2. Cloth face coverings (over the nose and mouth) are required for all customers, employees and vendors. Only the caller may remove their mask during the bingo session.

3. Social distancing will be enforced. Please maintain at least 6ft separation from anyone who is not a member of your household. Look at the floor for pre-marked spots.

4. Only members of the same household may sit together at a table. No more than 4 people per table.

Every other table must be left empty.

5. Customers and employees must wash and sanitize their hands upon entering the hall.

6. Please no groups while waiting in line. One person per household may stand in line to purchase bingo packages.

care about; it’s also Men Health Month. Celebrate what makes you amazingly you. Since 1994, sponsored by a congressional health education program, Men’s Health Month is celebrated across the United States with health fairs, screenings, and other health education/outreach activities.

Why Men’s Health Month? Despite the amazing medical advances, men still have a 7-year average shorter lifespan than women do. Prostate cancer has grown to an alarming rate of 1 in 9 (in 2015), with many men reluctant to visit their health care provider for regular exams. They may have related problems for many reasons, including, but not limited to: fear, lack of information, and cost factors.

So what do we do? Well, if you’re a female

reading this – encourage the men in your life (family and friends) to schedule and actually go to their check up. If you’re a male: put this magazine down. Pick up your phone. Dial your physician’s phone number. Schedule the check up; physically put your appointment in whatever scheduling device you use. Actually go to your appointment. This will be different from other age appropriate exams. If you’re between the ages of 20-39 you can schedule your exam every 3 years, 40-49 every 2 years, and over 50 head to the doctor every year. But every year you should get your blood pressure checked.

As excited as I am to jump in the pool I am just as nervous about my children being by the water. I know we have covered this topic before but I feel like it is important enough to touch base again.

Let’s be honest, there’s no one right way to make a sandwich. A lot of it simply depends on personal preferences. So, take this as a recommendation and feel free to modify it! Or, try it as it is written and see if you agree that it is absolutely fantastic

INGREDIENTS • ¼ cup (packed) dark brown sugar • 4 teaspoons chipotle chile powder • 4 teaspoons smoked paprika • 1½ teaspoons kosher salt, divided • ¼ cup pure maple syrup • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper • 2 pounds thick-cut bacon

• 2 heads of red romaine lettuce, separated into individual leaves • 4 large beefsteak tomatoes, sliced ¼-inch thick • 16 ½-inch slices white bread, toasted, such as pan de mie • Mayonnaise, Sriracha Mayonnaise, and/or Lemon-Herb Mayonnaise (for serving) • Flaky sea salt, freshly ground pepper

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Place racks in the upper and lower thirds of the oven; preheat to 400°.

2. If making brown-sugar rub, whisk brown sugar, chile powder, paprika, and 1 tsp. kosher salt in a small bowl.

3. If making maple-mustard glaze, whisk maple syrup, mustard, cayenne, and remaining ½ tsp. kosher salt in another small bowl.

4. For plain bacon, divide between 2 wire racks set inside large foil-lined rimmed baking sheets.

Bake, rotating baking sheets front to back and top to bottom halfway through, until brown and crisp, 35–50 minutes (depending on the thickness of the bacon). Transfer to paper towels to drain.

5. For flavored bacon, generously sprinkle desired amount (you’ll have enough rub and glaze for 1 lb. bacon each) with rub or brush with glaze about 5 minutes before it is done cooking. Rub should be melted and bubbling and glaze should look thick and caramelized.

6. Arrange bacon on a large platter and serve with lettuce, tomatoes, toast, mayonnaise, Sriracha Mayonnaise, Lemon-Herb Mayonnaise, sea salt, and pepper alongside for building sandwiches.

SPICY PORTUGUESE BEEF STEAK KABOBS INGREDIENTS •

1-1/2 pounds beef Top Sirloin Steak, cut 1-1/4 inch thick

•

1 large red bell pepper, cut into 1-inch pieces

MARINADE •

2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro

•

2 tablespoons olive oil

•

2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce

•

1 teaspoon minced garlic

•

1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)

Don’t forget to soak your wood skewers in water before you gril so they dont burn or splinter

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Cut beef Top Sirloin Steak into 1-1/4-inch pieces. Combine seasoning ingredients in a medium bowl.

Add beef; toss. Alternately thread beef and bell pepper onto six 10-inch skewers.

2. Place kabobs on a grid over medium, ash-covered coals. Grill, covered, 8 to 10 minutes (over medium heat on a preheated gas grill, 9 to 11 minutes) for medium rare (145°F) to medium (160°F) doneness, turning once. Season with salt, as desired.

8 wooden or bamboo skewers

2 zucchinis, cut into 1-inch slices

2 yellow squash, cut into 1-inch slices

½ pound whole fresh mushrooms

•

1 red onion, cut into chunks

12 cherry tomatoes

•

1 fresh pineapple, cut into chunks

•

1 red bell pepper, cut into chunks

•

⅓ cup olive oil

•

1 ½ teaspoons dried basil

•

¾ teaspoon dried oregano

•

½ teaspoon salt

•

⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Preheat grill for medium heat and lightly oil the grate. Alternately thread zucchini slices, yellow squash slices, mushrooms, onion, tomatoes, pineapple, and bell pepper onto the skewers.

2. Whisk olive oil, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper in a bowl; brush mixture over vegetables.

3. Cook skewers on preheated grill until vegetables are tender, turning and basting vegetables with olive oil mixture occasionally, 10 to 15 minutes.

Newsflash: we are not protecting our skin enough In case you’ve been spending the daytime hours indoors (say at a bingo hall, which we’re not complaining about) you may have noticed that the dog days of summer are upon us and we don’t even start the season until later this month. Welcome to summer in Texas where the days get longer, the ice cream/palatero man doesn’t come around nearly enough as they should, and the sun’s rays just beat a bit more on our fragile skin.

Last month was skin cancer awareness month so what better way to kick it off than discussing sunscreen.

Believe it or not, you, me, your cousin – we’re just not wearing nearly enough of it nor are we applying it correctly to our skin. Fact: the skin is the largest organ of our body. Fact: many of us are not using skin protection when we walk out the door. Fact: those of us that do put on sunscreen are not putting enough on.

In 2017, the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology issued a report where researchers placed free sunscreen dispensers on the grounds of the Minnesota State Fair and observed that for 93 hours, only 2,187 people used sunscreen – of this one-third applied it to all of their exposed skin and 38% had on sun-protective clothing, hats, or sunglasses. Of those to use sunscreen – more females to males and not surprisingly people barely used it on cloudy days.

Here’s the next fact, even on cloudy days, “up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can reach your skin” according to Ingrid Polcari, MD, FAAD, board-certified dermatologist and one of the authors of the study.

So here’s what you can do: • Wear protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts (think thin) and pants. Yes, it gets hot. Wear a light protector though.

• Apply sunscreen to all exposed skin, not just face and arms. How much exactly? About a palm sized amount (depending on your body size).

• The higher the SPF the closer to safety. No one sunscreen can full protect but you can get really close.

SPF 30 blocks 97% of the sun’s harmful rays.

• Keywords: broad spectrum this will protect against UVA (premature skin aging) & UVB (sunburn) – both can lead to skin cancer. Healthy and youthful, that’s a win.

• Another key term: water resistant this is not the same as waterproof, there are no sunscreens that are 100% waterproof. But, with water resistant you don’t have to worry about when you get sweaty or wet for 40-80 minutes • Reapply every two hours or immediately after swimming or sweating.
