Pennsylvania And Illinois Passing Legislation To Legalize Online Gambling And Fantasy Sports Last June, Pennsylvania’s House of Representatives passed a new bill expanding the gaming industry.

The state legalized fantasy sports betting, internet gambling, gaming tablets in airports, slot machines at off-track betting parlors, and up to 40,000 video gaming terminals in places like bars, nursing homes, and truck stops.

Many House members protested the bill being brought to a vote with so little input from lawmakers.

Specific complaints included longstanding concerns that expanding gaming to new platforms— like the internet and remote video gaming terminals — will “cannibalize” business from traditional casinos, revenue from which helps subsidize programs for the elderly. It now goes to the Senate, where it likely faces changes.

Similar bill is being passed in Illinois where State Senate overwhelmingly passed a piece of proposed legislation that would legalize online gambling and daily fantasy sports for residents of the Midwestern state.

This piece of legislation is now expecting scrutiny from Illinois House of Representatives. If it is passed as it is written, it includes forming a new Division Of Internet Gaming, which would be administered by the Illinois Gaming Board. This could help the state of 12.8 million people to plug its estimated $9.6 billion budget deficit. (Iv.)

Reversing Roles Charitable Bingo Operations Division (CBOD) leadership spent an evening with bingo workers in Duncanville, Texas at Jackpot Bingo. They observed bingo operations from the conductor’s perspective and gained a first-hand understanding of what bingo workers do for the division’s required record keeping and in preparation for their customers.

They job-shadowed bingo workers and operators and spoke with the bingo players and charity representatives. This non-audit related setting created a good atmosphere to share and learn from both perspectives. CBOD leadership worked hard, as required by the Jackpot Bingo Team, to complete their forms (pre-bingo session).

This exercise raised questions such as: Why are certain forms required? What regulatory objective is achieved with the required form? The bingo regulators walked with floor ushers as they sold products and had the opportunity to sit in the caller stand and draw the bingo balls before the game began. It was a great experience and the CBOD looks forward to the coming months to continue to streamline some operational issues for our conductors.

4th of July Crafts BY: MORGAN SIGLER

I hope you will try this or some of the other activities for kids and enjoy some time with your kids this summer.

Recycled Tin Can Windsocks Supplies: Empty and clean tin cans (with tops and bottoms removed) Red Ribbon White Ribbon Twine or string Blue indoor/outdoor paint White indoor/outdoor paint Star stencil Paint brush Glue

1. Start by painting your tin cans blue. You may need more than one coat in order to get good coverage.

2. Use your star stencil and white paint to add stars onto your tin cans once the blue paint is fully dry. There is no need to plan things out, just randomly place your stars.

3. Place a small dab of hot glue inside the can near the top. Place the twine into the glue and repeat this process

AMERICAN FLAG PRETZELS Ingredients 2 Cups white candy melts 1 Cup blue candy melts 1 Cup red candy melts Star sprinkles (sort out the white ones) Pretzels rods

Instructions 1. In three separate microwave safe bowlâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, microwave your candy melts on 50% power for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted.

2. Lay a piece of parchment paper down on the table 3. Dip your pretzel rod into your white chocolate to cover almost all the way (leave a spot to hold the pretzel) and place onto you parchment paper to harden 4. Once hardened, dip the end of your white pretzel rod into your blue chocolate and placed back on your parchment paper 5. Sprinkle on your star sprinkles while the blue chocolate is still soft 6. Pour your melted red chocolate into a plastic Ziploc bag and cut a very small tip off the corner 7. Drizzle your melted red chocolate over the white part of your pretzel and let harden

PATRIOTIC PARTY DIP 2 cans refried beans 1 1/2 - 2 cups guacamole 1 - 1 1/2 cups yogurt mix (4 oz cream cheese + 1 cup plain Greek yogurt + 2-3 Tbsp taco seasoning) 1 cup shredded cheese 1/2 can black olives 2 cups sliced grape or cherry tomatoes

Great for the 4th of July! I used a star shaped cookie cutter to make the star shapes. I found WKH ODUJH Ä&#x2021;DJ WUD\ DW Party City.

Layer ingredients in the order listed on a 12x18 tray or pan. Serve with corn or tortilla chips.

BARTON SPRINGS POOL Within Zilker Park’s 358 acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for yearround swimming. Over the years, Barton Springs Pool has drawn people from all walks of life, from legislators who have concocted state laws there to free-spirited, topless sunbathers who turned heads in the 1970s. Robert Redford learned to swim at the pool when he was five years old while visiting family in Austin. Today, Barton Springs still attracts a diverse crowd of people and has seen record setting numbers of visitors nearing 800,000 in recent years.

The Springs serves as home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander, and is listed as a federally protected habitat. The pool is closed to the public from 9a7p every Thursday to allow for the vigorous and methodical cleaning methods required to help maintain the pool area for wildlife and guests alike. Depths of the pool range from 0’ to 18’ with surrounding grassy areas for patrons to lounge upon.

Adjacent to the pool bathhouse is Splash!, an educational exhibit were patrons can learn about the history and biology of Barton Springs and the Edwards Aquifer which feeds it.
