The Interior of The Grand Arts & Entertainment

Postoffice St. is home to many events throughout they year. The oldest theater in the State of Texas in this district - The Grand 1894 Opera House, which offers live entertainment and performances year-round is also located here. In 1993, The Grand was named “The Official Opera House of Texas” by the 73rd Texas Legislature. World-class entertainment fills these halls. No wonder Galveston is often referred to as the “Baby Apple”, as this area is a miniature version of New York’s Broadway theater district!

Turtles About Town

A community art project installed around Galveston since 2018, Turtles About Town was created by Turtle Island Restoration Network and Clay Cup Studios showcasing the conservation efforts of the Kemp’s Ridley sea turtle. Businesses and organizations benevolently sponsored turtles and local artists created the design, accentuation and character of each turtle. Above are three examples of fifty total turtles that are represented all around Galveston, and it is a fun and educational adventure to see them all and get to know Galveston better through them.
