The 2016 season starts our third season in San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium! We are so excited about this year’s new district schedule and making our mark in 6A Football in the great state of Texas.

The 2016 football season is upon us, the boys and coaches have worked hard and continue to do so not only VU [OL Ä LSK I\[ PU [OL JSHZZYVVT HZ well. This will be the experience of a lifetime and they will make memories that will live on forever.

We would like to give a special thanks to Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Mark Soto and his Z[HɈ ;OL JVUÄ KLUJL V\Y H[OSL[LZ L_OPIP[ PZ PUZWPYLK I` H JVHJOPUN Z[HɈ that is building a program based on character, honesty, consistency, responsibility, dependability, honor and love. We welcome each one of you to IL WHY[ VM [OPZ L_WLYPLUJL Ä YZ[OHUK Throughout the summer our boys have been working hard to set the path for this season; with early morning workouts in the weight room, daily strength and conditioning workouts, 7 on 7 practices and games to develop team camaraderie.

The theme for this season is “OPERATION EARN RESPECT.” This football season is about entering the 6A Region 2 District 14 competition and

W\[[PUN P[ HSS VU [OL Ä LSK HUK ^HSRPUN away with RESPECT. Our young men have accepted the challenge of the new 6-A and look forward to showing everyone their dedication to the sport they love. The leadership of their great coaches will show everyone in the district, and the state, who San Marcos HS is and what they can do.

We are excited and welcome parents, alumni, business owners and members of the community that have come out to show their support.

This is the 2nd year the Football Booster Club is managing concessions at Rattler Stadium. We are truly blessed to have Rudy Espinoza as our Concession Stand Manager. The football boosters have been working throughout the summer to get ready for the season.

Band, Cheer and Diamond Line will be involved in the running of concessions like last year. The revenue earned will enhance the sport or activity their children are involved in.

We ask you to come out Friday nights and visit our concession, where all proceeds stay in San Marcos. >L VɈ LY H ZWLJPHS [OHURZ [V L]LY` organization at SMHS that have helped make the 2016 football season a success. This includes the Athletic Trainers, Student Council, JROTC program, Cheerleaders, Diamond Line, Rattler Band, SMHS Principal Kelli Lopez, all teachers, SMCISD Superintendent Michael

Cordona, and Athletic Secretary Nan Arredondo. Also, thank you to Justin Pearson owner of SAN MARCOS ))8 MVY HZZPZ[PUN ^P[O [OL 2PJR 6Ɉ BBQ and DON MOORE with the SAN MARCOS DAILY RECORD for their hard work and commitment to this program. SMHS Rattler Coaching Staff Mark Soto Athletic Director / Head Coach The Rattler’s would like to thank you for your support. Our kids are able to perform their best in San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium because of the positive energy you bring to the game.

We had an outstanding sporting year in 2015-16 and look forward to a bright future. It takes a village to run an athletic program and we are indebted to you for your partnership. We enjoy helping our young athletes be successful, both VU [OL Ä LSK HUK TVYL so in life. Our coaches use sports as a vehicle to teach life lessons based on family morals and values. We have some unique initiatives this year that will enhance our “character education” based athletic program.

Such initiatives as a partnership with NFL, Dallas Cowboys, THSCA, and UIL to develop character based curriculum for the entire district athletic program. Another exciting initiative will be our PRO Parent breakfasts. We tell our villagers to be a “PRO”…be a person who is Persistent, Resilient, and an Overachiever. Pro parent breakfasts are setup to facilitate conversations between the parent and their child. Topics such as “I’m proud of my son because…” or “it’s hard to be a parent today because…” will be discussed in a conversational group setting.

6\Y Z[HɈ MLLSZ [OLZL UL^ initiatives will help develop a well rounded citizen ready for the college or work world upon graduation.

Our motto for this year is “OPERATION: Earn Respect.” We feel this PZ H Ä [[PUN TV[[V NVPUN into the new 14-6A district which includes Austin schools Bowie, Akins, Anderson, along with Manor and Del Valle. Our kids are primed and ready to defend our regular season home winning streak. I’d like to invite you out to games to watch our kids perform to the best of their abilities in the best facility in the nation.

Our Rattler family is stronger than ever in San Marcos. Parents have stepped up leading and sharing the workload in the concession stands along with running fundraisers and selling merJOHUKPZL 7SLHZL Ä UK a way to volunteer with your booster clubs.

As we always state, “it takes a village to raise a sports team.” I would like to introduce you to my personal villagers that have been supportive of me throughout life’s challenges and successes.

My parents Juan and Virginia Soto along with my nephew Christopher are pictured on the right and to my left is my gorgeous girlfriend Jennifer Pineda and her son Jalen.

Coach Green is in his third year with the Rattlers. He coaches the varsity outside linebackers and freshmen secondary. Green is a former Converse Judson athlete and graduate.

He received an athletic scholarship for football to Oklahoma Panhandle State University and received his bachelors in Biology. Coach Green is an inspiration to both the kids and his loving wife and is proud to be a part of Rattler Nation.

Coach Sierra is starting his third year at San Marcos. He is beginning his 26th year of coaching with previous stops at New Braunfels, Judson and Smithson Valley. He is married to Beth and together they have three wonderful children: Andre (23), Colton (21) and Micaela (15).

Coach Yock is returning for his ninth year in the district and sixth year as receivers coach. He is a WYV\K NYHK\H[L VɈ :HU Marcos High School and the University of Texas-Austin. Coach Yock would like tho thank his Ä HUJLL 1HKL 4\UVa MVY her support.

Coach Rodriguez enters OPZ Ä M[O ZLHZVU HZ [OL Rattlers defensive coordinator. He has 15 years of coaching experience, both at the high school and collegiate levels. He is a proud graduate of United High School in his home town of Laredo.

He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s in Education from the University of Texas-San Antonio. He is married to Monice Laurel-Rodriguez and together have a beautiful daughter, Gianna.

Prior to coaching he received an athletic and academic scholarship to the University of the Incarnate Word where he played MVV[IHSS MVY [OL Ä YZ[ ZPNU ing class and received his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. He is engaged to Andrea Bulkley and wouldn’t be where he is today without the love and support from his parents Johnny & Brenda Quinney.

Coach Robledo is beginning his 17th season on the Rattlers coaching Z[HɈ >OLU UV[ JVHJO ing football or baseball, Coach Robledo enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife, Olga, have four boys.

Coach Miller is entering his fourth season of coaching at San Marcos High School. He coaches varsity cornerbacks, JV secondary and the freshman basketball team.

Coach Miller attended Texas State where he played defensive back and received his Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Exercise Sports Science. He was born and raised in San Marcos and is proud to be a Rattler Alum. He is married to the love of his life.

Bruce Webb Strength & Conditioning

Coach Cogdill graduated from San Marcos High School in 2010 and played baseball under Webb in 2010. He played football from 2008 to 2009 and attended The College of St. Schoolastica where he played football for four years and majored in Exercise Physiology.

This is his second year coaching.

*VHJO >LII PZ Z[HY[PUN OPZ Ä M[O year at San Marcos and his 37th coaching. Prior to San Marcos, Coach Webb has coached at Texas Lutheran University, Schulenberg, Georgetown, /HYKPU 1LɈ LYZVU 1\KZVU HUK Antonian. During his career, he has served in numerous positions, including head baseball, football and basketball coach.

He and his wife, Mechele have four children: Jacob (31), Megan (28), Johnny (27) and Olivia (24).

Steven Davis Freshman Football Math Teacher This is Coach Davis’ third year with the Rattlers, seventh overall. He has had stops at Hallettsville and Dripping Springs HS as a football, basketball and track coach. A 2010 graduate of Texas State University with a BS in Math, Coach Davis enjoys spending time with his wife, Allison. Coach Davis is also the Head Powerlifting coach.

Nan Arredondo Administrative Assistant for the Athletic Department Nan is in her 17th year in the Athletic Department. Before that, she worked at Gary Job Corps Center for 22 years, as well as various part time jobs. She and her husband George have been married for 36 years and have three children; Amy (34), George (30), and Robert (21). They also OH]L Ä ]L WYLJPV\Z NYHUKJOPSKYLU" Melvin (11), Ryan (11), Melena (10), Noah (3) and Maddyson (2), and another granddaughter on the way!

Andre Sierra World Geography Coach Sierra is starting his second year at San Marcos High School. He is a proud graduate of New Braunfels High School.

Upon graduating from high school, he attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where he played football and was part of the 2011 ASC Conference Championship team. He then transferred to Texas A&M where he was a member of the Fightin’ Aggie Class of 2016 where he received his Bachelor’s degree in History and minors in coaching and Geography. He is excited to be a part of Rattler Nation.

Rene Medina Football/Soccer Social Studies Teacher The 2016-17 school year with be Coach Medina’s 10th in the teaching profession, in San Marcos CISD. This year will be his sixth at the high school. He spent three years at Miller Middle School. Coach Medina graduated from Texas State University in December 2006. He is a graduate of Luling High School and the son of Martin and Mary Frances Medina, brother of Jason Castillo and Rojelio Medina. Coach Medina holds a Class “D” Coaching License from the USSF, a High School Coaching Diploma from the NSCAA and a level 2 GK Diploma from NSCAA.
