MEET THE COVER PHOTO COUPLE ...Alexis & Logan
L
Logan and I met in high school when he was a senior and I was a freshman. I always thought he was so cute, but we did not date in high school. We didn’t start dating until the summer after I graduated in 2011. We reconnected when he commented on a Facebook photo of mine. We then went on a few dates, but when I found out he was just as big of a Disney fan as I was, that’s when I knew we were perfect
for each other. It’s very rare to find someone who loves Disney that much! More than half of our dating relationship was long distance as he was going to school at Texas Tech. Because of this, people thought it wasn’t going to last, but here we are 6 years later. After being together for four years, we planned our first vacation. Disney World! Our first day there we didn’t go to
the park but instead we hung out by the pool. I noticed Logan couldn’t stay still and kept being fidgety but I just assumed he was super excited to meet Mickey. That night we met up with his mom and cousin and went to an awesome dinner and a show called Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. After the dinner, I was exhausted and sun burnt and ready to go back to the hotel but Logan insisted we watch the Wishes
firework show from the beach near the restaurant, so we walked to the beach. I was ready to plop down on the sand wherever to watch the fireworks but Logan was trying to find the perfect spot. Finally, we found a spot that won his approval. It was near a huge tree and it had a rock speaker near us so we could hear continued on page 15
ENGAGEMENT STORY How we met: Life has a funny way of bringing two people together. Garrett and Monique’s story is unique in that little did they know that for the majority of their lives, they were in just an arms reach of each other. Garrett and Monique grew up and went to the same elementary school and later went on to graduate from the same High School, all in the small town of Boerne, Texas. They had many friends in common and as a result often hung out at birthday parties and what not together. Without planning, they then both went on to attend and graduate college from the
same university; Texas State in San Marcos, Texas. Again, they would often find themselves at the same places with the same friends. However, they always just remained friends and never considered the idea of dating. In 2010, they again found themselves at the same music festival with friends and spent a lot of time talking there. This led to months of texting and talking on the phone, where they found out so much that they had not known about each other despite knowing each other for so long. They both found themselves back in their home town post-graduation, when they finally went on their first date, which was supposed to
be to Alamo Drafthouse for a movie and dinner... but true to their nature, they were late and when they arrived to purchase tickets there were only two left and they were on complete opposite sides of the theater. Instead, they had a great time together at Hofbrau Beer Garden.... and the rest as they say, is history. The proposal: Fast forward to five years later... Garrett and Monique were finally exactly where they wanted to be: Back in Boerne from College Station, Garrett with an amazing career at Waste Management and Monique attending Physician Assistant school at the UT Health Science
Center in San Antonio. It was Friday, February 10th (Monique’s birthday) and she had her first anatomy exam. It was a treacherous four-hour exam and when she finally arrived home that night, she felt exhausted. Garrett had plans to take her out for her birthday but if anyone knows Monique, they know how hard it is to overcome her stubbornness. She was determined to continued on page 21

Meet the Cover Couple continued fron page 7 Disney’s music that went along with the fireworks. I sat down right away and the show probably didn’t start for another ten minutes so Logan was leaned against the tree. Logan didn’t want to sit down yet until it was closer to starting. (He didn’t want me to see the ring box in his pocket), and as he was leaned against the huge tree trying to get his game face on before he popped the question, a squirrel out of nowhere attempted to jump on the tree but halfway landed on his face, then from his face jumped on to the tree. Logan gained his composure after that I will never know. Logan finally sat down next to me and the music and fireworks began. The music for Wishes was so cute. At the beginning, it had all of the princesses talking about meeting prince charming and making wishes. Cheesy I know but I was on cloud nine! Logan asked his mom if she would take a picture of us with the fireworks in the background so I turned around to face her. He insisted that we had to be standing up for the picture though. I thought in my head that’s
so weird usually I have to beg Logan to stand up for a picture. So, we stand up and back up for the picture. Once we got to the spot for the picture I turned around to see if the fireworks were in a good spot behind us and when I turned back around I didn’t see Logan, but when I looked down I saw him on one knee with a ring. I was so shocked and surprised that I
said thank you at first. Then finally I said yes! It was just like a fairytale, funny and romantic. From then on Disney World has become even more special to us. We got married December 17th and went back to the place where it all started, Disney World, for our honeymoon.
Tips!
As a professional event planner who has planned over 300 weddings in 10 years, I can tell you I have recently seen an increase in the number of “Wedding Planners” available for hire. However, the “Wedding Planner” that is up for hire just might be a bride who planned her own wedding and now thinks she can plan others.... YIKES!! Speaking from experience, I know that it takes more than planning a single wedding or event to become a planner not mention that it takes the right person as well. The right person will be organized, calm and able to think outside the box when issues arise.
knowledge, understanding and ability to make changes on the run and to quietly and calmly get issues fixed behind the scenes so that you can enjoy your wedding. With the right wedding planner, you will know that your wedding is in the hands of a highlytrained team for your special once-in-a-lifetime event. Make your planner the first stop when planning your special day! Remember - it’s not just “price” - it’s “quality”!

A Helpful Guide to Tipping at Weddings Which vendors should you tip and how much and when should you? Tips are never obligatory and they are supposed to be an expression of appreciation for a good service that you receive. That said, unless the service was terrible, would you walk away from a salon or restaurant without leaving one? The same applies to weddings and it is customary to show gratitude by tipping the people involved in making your wedding a success. #1 Check your contract – many gratuities are built into the price quotes for major items like catering If the gratuity is not included in the contract, you might consider adding it into the contract so you don’t have to deal with it on the day of the ceremony. #2 Reward Extraordinary Efforts When someone goes out of their way to make your event special, you may want to add on a little extra for them. Did the baker make last minute changes you requested for the cake? Did your bartender make sure you had a drink in hand at all time and was fast and professional while accommodating your wedding guests? Did you send hours with your planner? Setting aside money for tipping can be hard when you are trying to squeeze everything into the wedding budget. Although it is not required nor expected, a small gratuity for a job well done is a great way to show appreciation to everyone who made your wedding day run smooth. Key people that should not be forgotten when tipping include: • Bartenders • Catering – if not included in the bill • Delivery or setup personnel Here are some guidelines to help you: Bartenders: 10 percent of the total liquor bill (to be split among them) Catering manager: $200+ or a personal gift Hairstylist: 15 to 20 percent Limo or bus drivers: 15 percent Maitre d’hotel or headwaiter: 1 to 3 percent of food and beverage fees Makeup artist: 15 to 20 percent Musicians: 15 percent of fee for ceremony musicians; $25 to $50 per musician for reception Photographer/videographer: If you’re paying a flat fee with no overtime, $100 Waiters: $20 and up each (distributed by the catering manager or maitre d’) Wedding planner: 15 percent of fee or a personal gift

DON’T SKIMP The five things you shouldn’t skimp on for your wedding
W
Weddings are expensive, we all know it. So it’s only natural to want to try and save money when possible. There are, however, certain things you shouldn’t skimp on when it comes to your big day. Food and Beverages Your food will be one of, if not the, most expensive parts of your whole day. It can be tempting to go for a cheaper caterer or even going DIY and making your own food. What you need to remember, though, is that your meal will be your first opportunity to sit down and relax after the craziness of the first half of your day. Your meal is also a chance to recharge and get ready for a night of dancing, drinking and letting your hair down. Photographer It’s not difficult to tell the difference between a good photographer and a bad photographer. Normally, the price is the first clue. That may sound harsh, but you will see a massive difference in quality. If you want beautiful, professional photographs that will last a lifetime and forever remind you of your big day, then spend a little bit more money on a professional photographer. It’s worth it!
band or DJ will have the ability to ruin your evening, while a quality and experienced one will be able to make sure your night is one to remember. The difference between a good DJ and a bad DJ? One will play nothing but cheesy school disco hits, while the other will listen to what you tell him/her about your preferences and favorites, and tailor the playlist around them. Wedding Planner One way to get really close to the perfect wedding is to hire a professional wedding planner. A planner can save you money and time. They put together a realistic budget including discounts from vendors that they have developed relationships with. Give your family a break, a gift to yourself and a gift to your family. You deserve it!
Hair and make-up “But I do my own hair and make-up every day,” you might be thinking. There is a big difference between professional wedding hair and make-up artists and you. Professional make-up artists know exactly how to do your make-up so that it will stay all day without smudging, and will look perfect for the cameras. Professional hair stylists will be able to produce the perfect up-do that, even though it looks loose and ruffled and boho, will not move an inch throughout the day. They are trained and have skills that you don’t, and they know exactly what they’re doing. Plus, why would you want the stress of trying (and possibly failing) to beautify yourself before your big day? Music Whether it’s a live band, a DJ, or something else, you really shouldn’t skimp on your music and sound. A sub-par live FALL 2017

hair Pony tail time! High or low, it makes no difference, just don’t forget to grab a ribbon or bow to spruce it up a bit. Now that we are home with all our fabulous amenities, feel free to pull out your flat irons and give yourself some sleek straight beautiful hair again. Maybe give it a little twist somewhere for a little deco. Say goodbye to your hair’s detention, whether it’s low maintenance or not, I’m seeing a lot of all-over dark colors. And I’m actually not hating it - if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.

Well, sin since we all know the squiggly make-up lines won’t go over h here in the Hill Country, and honestly shouldn’t anywhere else from my perspective, let’s just skip that look and move on to what really matters. Time to switch things up and dust off your makeup boxes and bags because it’s back in ladies, from the smokey eye with gold and shimmer or copper tones and metallics. Makeup is back! Throw in a few rose tones and a berry lip and your makeup is done.
clothing I’m not really a big fan of red, but I’m going to give it a chance this fall because it’s everywhere! To be honest I’m actually pretty excited about it because I don’t think I have ever even worn that color, ha. Well this next one is easy. It’s time to throw a little western flare in this fall’s dress-ups. I’m pretty sure we all have a little something we can incorporate into our look from our existing wardrobe. Maybe grab a mid-length skirt for the season and definitely a long shirt dress you can wear with just a great pair of shoes. Here’s to trying something new!

For ages ag the bride’s bri ffamily has carried most of the burden of wedding dd g expenses pen but b times have changed. Sit down with the familyy and an talkk aabout who will pay for what so everyone is on the same page and doesn’t have any surprises or high expectations of the other family members. The best way to merge both families is to make everyone feel involved. A common split of costs is the bride’s family pays for the actual wedding (venue, food, cake, alcohol, vendors, etc.) and the groom’s family pays for the events leading up to the wedding and after the wedding (rehearsal dinner and honeymoon). Engagement Story cont’d from page 7 do nothing but lay on the couch and watch movies after the day she had had. But after finally convincing her to get dressed, they were finally on their way. Once they left the house, Garrett claimed that he needed to stop by a site to take pictures for work. FLOWER TIPS FOR FALL Details are everything when it comes to weddings. Each little detail adds up to create the vibe and atmosphere of your special day. When it comes to flowers, you want to be sure choose bouquets that align with your desired emotions and overall feeling of the event. With over 400,000 flowering plant species, it can be tough to narrow down your selection. Instead of researching various flowers, simply Pinterest, Google, or even magazine-hunt for pictures of bouquets that catch your attention.
Quick Tips: • As with other design concepts, pastels typically feel more feminine whereas bolder and brighter colors are more masculine and modern. For example, a soft green and white garden look makes for a more timeless combination. • Having a swatch from your bridesmaid dresses will help give the florist an idea of the colors and textures you wish to include. • If you are petite or small you may not want a massive cascading arrangement.
•
•
•
ur If your cernyy will emony ld d in a be held large space like a oom orr cathedral, ballroom all bouquett might a small seem small for the room and area. The grand cascading bouquet is perfect if you desire flair. A ball gown calls for a
bouquet with an equally grand, impressive shape. If your gown is more slender you may want a bouquet that is smaller, as a large bouquet might hide your figure.

Even adding in your basic mixer you are still under $1.00 per serving. Say you have 150 guests and 75 are wine drinkers and you

are serving for 4 hours you will need 75 bottles of wine at $10.00 a bottle that is $750 just for wine alone. Now you serve liquor to 75 guests for 4 hours you only need 8 Bottles of Liquor at $25.00 per bottle that is only $200, I know you are going to say what about all the sodas, juices, mixers, garnishes etc. You will still only spend about $250-$300 on that so you are now at $500 to serve liquor. You saved $250 dollars! Now of course there are variable
and we used the average cost. We know some of you will go buy wo buck chuck and say then wine is cheaper to serve. But, lets face it would you rather serve two buck chuck or a cape cod at your wedding? So call us today for your consult and let us show you how you can have the bar of you always wanted with out breaking the bank! **side not this for the those that choose venues that allow the couple to purchase their own alcohol. FOOD TIPS FROM SMOKE IN THE HILLS BBQ BY: KELLY MANN The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. The same goes for your wedding guests. The menu is one of the most important aspects of your wedding. Here are some questions to ask to help you choose the right caterer. What is included in your plate price? If you have fewer guests than you planned, you may have food left over. Some caterers take the food with them and others package it for you. What deposit do you require and what is your cancellation policy? The amount needed for a deposit varies widely from one caterer to another. Knowing what you are required to pay to save your date will help with budgeting. Cancellation policies also vary from different companies. There will be a set date you can cancel by without losing your deposit. When do you need final plate count and final payment? Having these questions answered in advance allows you to plan the date you will need to receive all of your RSVPs from guests. It will also help when budgeting for your big day. The Tragedy of the Ceremony Time By: Kristin Voss at Kendall Plantation
A
Ah, the tragedy of the ceremony time. Have you ever been to an outdoor wedding in the middle of July with a 4 pm start time? I have. Don’t be that person! Let’s chat about the ceremony start time; often neglected or not even considered. Some of the best advice a wedding venue professional can provide you prior to booking a venue is when to have the ceremony. There is no other person on earth who knows the sunset times and direction of the venue better than the venue person. I get it, photographers also know the sunset times and shadows and other fancy terms for when the earth orbits the sun…but they don’t know what the venue professional knows. Boerne is the home of several wonderful venues that offer gorgeous outdoor ceremony locations. Nothing beats a Texas Hill Country wedding: the clean air, the rolling hills, the magnificent oak trees, and the serenity of peace and quiet. It really is the best. But, you must be careful about selecting a start time for this glorious celebration - your wedding ceremony. The general rule of thumb is to conduct the ceremony 1.5
hours prior to sunset. If you are planning a wedding in the months of April-September in the Texas Hill Country, this applies to you more than anyone! The last thing you want to plan is a wedding at the heat of the day during the hottest months in Texas. Regardless of the trees providing shade and handing out hundreds of mini bottled waters, the hottest part of the day is the worst part of the day for a wedding ceremony! Trust me on this. When a guest passes out right before the ceremony because of the extreme heat - everything stops. EMS is called, guests gather around, the attention is immediately drawn to that person and it is the talk of the rest of the evening. (Sounds so selfish, but so true!) This sort of tragedy might have been avoided if it wasn’t the hottest part of the day in the blazing sun. The perfect ceremony time will produce a lower sun, a breeze, and a few degrees temperature drop which is a game changer! Your photographer will love you when the ceremony is scheduled just before sunset when the sun is golden and
the light is not as harsh. You will most certainly love the results of your photos as well! Ditch the squinty eyes, dripping sweat, and beet red faces. Spare yourself the swamp mess going on underneath that 20lb dress! Choose a ceremony time wisely to avoid getting over heated and becoming so worn out from the heat that you can’t even fathom taking any more photos. Ask your venue if you can visit the site one year prior to the wedding on the exact date so you can get a better feel for the sun location and heat factor! A few tips from a local venue: It is nice to offer a cold beverage pre-ceremony—maybe mini snow cones, cold ice tea, cucumber water, fruit water or anything cold! Ask your caterer or bartender about this service so you don’t have FALL 2017
to worry about setting it up and replenishing it. And don’t forget, if you are having programs at your wedding, they can double as fans. Most commonly, the ceremony is short and sweet, 20-25 minutes long start to finish, processional to recessional, resulting in less heat exposure time to the guests. Please keep this in mind; do not tell guests the wedding starts at a certain time with the intentions of actually starting the wedding later than that—this is the worst trick in the book! Always aim to start on time to avoid guests arriving way too early and unoccupied!

ROOM O BLOCKS
I
If you’re hosting h out-of-town utguests, reservingg room blocks oc at nearby hotels iss a great idea. dea Rather than having your guests calling alli places in the area, why area wh not havee rrooms reserved for them at an even better ett rate? Wouldn’t it be nic nice if everyone ne were in one or two locations rather th than 10 different areas? Before selecting the hotel,l re research what is close to your venue, price point and what the place has to off fer. You should look at selecting two room blocks with one being a cheaper option that may not have as many amenities as the more expensive one that might have more to offer for your guests. Once you select the locations for your guests to stay, negotiate a contract with the hotel. Can they give you points on your rewards card for the
Money Talk
W
When you’re wedding planning, it’s easy to get distracted by the actual planning of the event and forget about the logistics of marriage. Have you thought about the legal or financial logistics just yet? Some couples are already living with their partner before getting married, which is usually when the first big money talk happens—it would be hard to sign a lease together otherwise. If you are not cohabitating, you should probably sit down with your partner to discuss where you are going to live and decide who is paying for what. Maybe you have had a talk before but how in depth was that conversation? Maybe you just covered the basics like salary, benefits and credit scores, but that’s only the tip of the iceberg when you are examining finances for the both of you. To avoid unpleasant budget arguments down the road, I suggest that you should get it all out on the table so that both of you know the state of your finances before the wedding. We know what you’re thinking: Yeah, that’s all well and good, but how do I go about having a constructive conversation about money? First off, you can’t feel self-conscious. If one of you makes significantly more than

rooms? Will they offer a suite or complimentary room for the bride and groom or parents? What extra things can they offer to make your guests feel welcome? The best way to do the room block is to do a courtesy room block and sign a contract to reserve rooms for your guests. Doing so will ensure you are not putting down a payment or being held liable for the cost if they are not booked. Most will hold, say, 20 rrooms for a select amount ro unt off ti time and then after a certain date, will release those rooms for others to rent. Schedule your room blocks early to give your guests time to get in the reservations. Posting updates on your wedding website is the best way to keep guests informed on directions, room blocks and details of the event.

Rethink the Bridal Party When it comes to weddings, many old traditions and rules no longer apply. Your wedding party (also known as the bridal party) includes not only the people who you’ll count on to help you with planning, but also are the ones you want by your side when you walk down the aisle and say your vows. They’re your sisters, brothers, and closest friends. Why not have your favorite guy friends standing next to the bride? Best guy friends are being honored more and more with Man of Honor title. Not only that but gal pals are also crossing over to the groomsmen territory. You can have all your best friends standing next to you at the altar now regardless of gender. A bride may want her brother by her side instead of across the aisle. The groom may want a female cousin that he grew up with standing with him at the altar. Mix-andmatching the bridal party is a new trend. It’s called a wedding party, so think of it that way. When you go to the party there are men and women and having all your best men and women friends standing beside you in your wedding pictures will be a fun party.

THE OVERRATED REHEARSAL By: Kristin Voss at Kendall Plantation
I
Iff you ou are planning a wedding or recently recentl en planned your wedding, know the stress of organizing you kn a rehea rehearsal. It can be overwhelmreh ing ngg to plan for bridesmaids, groomsmen, family, grandparents, gro groom the he flow flower girl, the ring bearer and officiant to arrive on location a day before the wedding for the rehearsal. Many venues no longer allow for a rehearsal time and even more venues will not have rehearsal time available as popularity continues to grow for Friday and Sunday weddings which limits the available time. If your venue is unavailable the day before, consider doing a quick walk-through on the day of the wedding. The bridesmaids will already be on location to start working on hair and make-up and the groom and groomsmen can get a look at the layout of the venue and where they will need to stand. (The bride can hang back in the bridal suite to keep the tradition of not seeing her groom prior to walking down the aisle!) This allows the wedding planner to do a quick walk-through with all the participants just before the ceremony. This can all be done in 20 minutes, tops! Following the quick rehearsal, the gents can head off to do guy things and the ladies can head back inside to continue doing hair and make-up! Day-of-wedding rehearsals are a great option and are becoming more popular! Your bridal party
will appreciate not needing to take extra days off work or adding extra travel time! Here’s the deal, a rehearsal is SO overrated. As if you won’t have enough on your mind the day before the wedding anyway, you will also have an additional task of coordinating everyone in the wedding party to show up at an exact time the day before the wedding to practice walking in a line, quietly, like you did in 1st grade! Invariably, at least one person in the wedding party will be late or a no-show for any number of perfectly understandable reasons, so they will need to be briefed afterwards. The fact is, once you’ve hired a professional wedding planner to run the day, you don’t need to do a run-through the day before. The wedding planner is key here! Let me map it out for you. About 15 minutes or so prior to the ceremony on wedding day, the wedding planner will have everyone lined up in a specific order that was determined at your final meeting. Once everyone is in order, they simply follow the person in front of them to the altar. The wedding planner will direct when it is time to walk, where to walk, and when to stop. Yup, it is that easy! What about the 4-year-old flower girl you say? Well, she too, will walk behind a bridesmaid right before the bride comes down. They either do it or they don’t, it doesn’t matter how many FALL 2017
times you practice or how much you bribe her to walk down the aisle, a 4-year-old will do what they do. Just go with it! Once the bridal party is down the aisle, obviously the bride already knows where she is headed and when to stop…yeah! Once everyone is in place and the music has faded, the officiant will take over from there. The officiant will guide the bride and groom as well as the guests on exactly what will happen next. The bridesmaids and groomsmen will have completed their duties and can stand on the sidelines as your ride-or-die. The officiant will be conducting the ceremony, so he/she will guide everyone when to talk and what to say. Even if the ceremony calls for personal vows, the officiant will cue the start of that. If there is a reader or singer during the ceremony, the officiant will signal for that, too! I would like to stress the importance of having a meeting with your officiant a week or two prior to the wedding so everyone is on the same page about the order events during the ceremony and that is it! Everyone has been to or been in a wedding before, it is all the same. Don’t stress about trying to round up a crowd to come a day or two early just to walk in a straight line. It will work out, it will be okay. Hire a professional wedding planner to take that stress away from you so you can just be a bride on your wedding day. You deserve it!

Money Talk cont’d from page 32 the other, any insecurities that causes need to go out the window in order for the money talk to work. On that note, it’s important to ask your future partner if they’re okay being the breadwinner, so to speak. It may have always been implied without actually having had a discussion about taking on that responsibility. You also need to discuss how you each want to earn your money. If you someday want to work part time, own your own business or retire early so you don’t have to work at all—don’t you want to know how your partner feels about that? Consider what your lives would look like if you’re both earning money the way you want to. If one partner loses their job, can you both survive on a single paycheck? Can one of you be a stay-at-home parent or is there enough money for daily child care? Smart couples will talk about these kinds of scenarios before they arrive. Tackle this talk little by little, day by day. The worst thing you could do is wait until your partner tells you about a big purchase after the fact (or vice versa). Starting this conversation in a safe space will foster more openness and honesty. In the end, getting through these hard topics together can make your relationship feel even stronger. Talking about money can make us feel vulnerable, so you can build trust with your partner by being extremely understanding and supportive when talking about your finances.

THE BRIDAL SESSION 5 REASONS TO HAVE ONE By: Allison Jeffers Photography
E
Engagement sessions are universally understood. I’ve never had a couple ask me “what is an engagement session?” But bridal sessions? They are definitely a regional tradition, and I still have about 25% of couples who initially don’t know what they are or if they should have one! So, I’m here to explain what they are and why they’re important, too! Bridal sessions started as a southern tradition, but it is still very popular to this day! I actually photograph as many bridal sessions (or MORE) as I do engagement sessions. A bridal session is where the bride gets dressed up in her wedding attire any time other than on the wedding day (it’s usually 1-2 months before, but I’ve had brides do them after their wedding, too!). This guarantees that she will have her photos back in time to display at the wedding reception! Some brides choose to display one grand photo, while others display small photos around the reception area. There are no rules when it comes to these sessions or how you display your images. The only rule is to have FUN! Here are 5 reasons why every bride needs a bridal session.
1. TAKE THE DRESS FOR A TEST DRIVE Every bride usually tries their dress on while standing up in front of multiple mirrors. When you have a bridal session you get to walk around, sit, and even twirl in your dress before the wedding! It’s like a test drive. I’ve had many brides who have realized that their dress needed a specific alteration that would have driven them crazy on their wedding day had they not fixed it beforehand.
have changed them all. It’s nice to know that you have that kind of insurance for your wedding day look.
5. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
On your wedding day, you’ll likely have a few portraits of yourself 3. GIRLS NIGHT snapped in a beautiful OUT location at your venue, A bridal session isn’t JUST for the bride. On December 17, 2016 in Boerne Texas, Josh and Chantelle took their lifelong vows at the ever elegant and charming Kendall Plantation. Choosing a wedding venue for some couples might be a chore, but the decision was certainly made easier for this adorable couple because older brother Jeremy and wife Kristin Voss operate an absolutely charming venue - Kendall Plantation! The venue was built to accommodate 400 guests and that’s just what they needed for this Boerne native groom and Flatonia native bride. Two people from small towns means a big guest list! Both the bride and the groom are blessed with many friends and each had 9 attendants as their ride-or-dies. The well-groomed groomsmen (all Boerne grads) sported light grey suits with perfectly matched navy accessories needed for a December wedding celebration. Not to be outdone, the groom looked stunning in his full navy colored suit which was a perfect complement to the groomsmen’s attire. The bridesmaids showed off blue empire dresses and glittery silver Kate Spade Keds. Chantelle was glowing in her crystal-beaded fit-and-flare gown paired with an elegant bouquet of hydrangeas, roses, and peonies.
FAMILY AFFAIR The day was just what you would expect in the Texas Hill Country in December - 75 degrees and sunny. The afternoon ceremony was led by Chantelle’s sweet grandfather who created a custom-made program to fit their personalities. After the official I do’s were exchanged, photos of friends and family were in order while the guests took advantage of the open bar, appetizers and spacious wrap around porches at the dreamy Kendall Plantation. Guest attire did not disappoint at this small-town wedding with a great showing of Texas tuxedos and cowboy boots. The venue was full of energy as guests danced underneath the gorgeous
chandeliers and Texas style twinkle lights. While Josh and Chantelle did not have a particular theme for their wedding, it was a perfect mix of what they loved; Navy blue, vintage charm, and pretty flowers. A true “Texas Glam” reception…nailed it! Later in the evening Josh, Chantelle, and guests were surprised with the ever-popular fireworks show. With the help and expertise of Kendall Plantation, this wedding will go down in history as one of the venue’s most magical evenings. We love true Hill Country weddings and the newlyweds, Josh and Chantelle, showed a true homage to Boerne and Texas with their unforgettable wedding!

honeymoon Publisher’s Pick for a Fall Honeymoon By: Ron Lehman
I
oneyIf you are planning a honeymoon or an anniversaryy get get-uggest a away, I would like to suggest trip to the Caribbean. There is a plethora of islands to visit nique and each has its own unique story. scenery, culture, and history. eward The seas around the Leeward lue and Islands are a dazzling blue generally calm, after all,, they l nds are called the Leeward IIslands because they are protected from the open waters of the Atlantic. I had originally planned to write about traveling to BVI - that’s the British Virgin Islands for the uninitiated. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma has devastated BVI and they will surely be rebuilding everything from homes to businesses to resort facilities for the next few years, so I have decided to redirect my thoughts further to the south to the French archipelago called Guadeloupe. Christopher Columbus first landed on Guadeloupe during his second voyage in 1493 and the islands have been under the ownership of the Spanish, English, Swedish, and French over the years
since Columbus’ landing. It has been a French territory since 1815. Th The capital i 1815 i l is Pointe-a-Pitre which has a population of 400,000, and the euro is its currency. Pointe-a-Pitre is also the home of the island’s international airport. Guadeloupe has dozens of fine bays and coves with beaches to laze upon while enjoying warm breezes, sipping on a tall rum drink, and dipping your toes in the warm Caribbean waters. If you are adventuresome, there are plenty of sailing boats available for day charters or you can be really adventuresome and do a week-long charter that will take you around to see the sights of the islands, feed you, and give you a little background of the places you are going to visit. Did I mention the snorkel-
ing and diving? Snorkeling/ dive locations abound and will take your breath away, so be sure to pack a snorkel vest and waterproof camera, especially for your visit to the Jacque Cousteau Underwater Reserve. Yes, it’s all underwater so no hiking boots required here! Land-bound activities, besides the beaches, are abundant and varied. The last time I checked there were 9 rhum (that’s rum to us) distilleries that hold tours and offer free samples. Shopping in downtown Pointe-a-Pitre is an exciting experience and the Spice Market is a must. If you want to explore a rainforest check out the hiking trails in the Guadeloupe National Park, which has been designated a World Biosphere Re-
serve by UNESCO. The park is also home to La Soufrière, one of a chain of volcanoes in the Caribbean. There are also botanical gardens, museums, and old settlements and forts to visit and explore. Guadeloupe is just one of many Caribbean islands that can provide a great get-away from our beloved Texas weather and scenery. Just remember that the Caribbean Islands stretch from Puerto Rico all the way down to Aruba, just off the South American coast. No matter which island you decide to visit, I can only suggest that you take plenty of SPF 50 sunscreen, a good hat, a relaxed attitude, a great big smile and your other half.

Remain true to yourself and each other.
