GAMING NEWS The New Look to Machines in Casinos Casino gamers in New Jersey will soon be put to the ultimate test of skills. Caesar’s, Harrah’s, and Bally’s casinos in Atlantic City will soon be home to the infamous skill-based slot machines that have been rumored since 2013. GameCo, the maker of the skill based casino games, are waiting for final approval from the gambling regulators in New Jersey. Once this green light is given, a total of 21 gaming stations will be heading the way of the lucky casinos. Rather than the normal slot machines that you just press a button and hope for the best, these games are in 45-second increments. You have an objective - one game you must take out six or more robots and you’re in the money. If you take out 10 (the max) you get the highest payout. Each game includes a random secondary winning opportunity with possible instant cash from $1 to $5,000; so even if you’re not quick with the shot you still have a chance to come away with money. We reported to you last November that at the annual Global Gaming Expo (G2E) slot machine makers are eager to tap into the millennial market and are hoping this gamble will pay off.

New MGM coming to East Coast MGM National Harbor has been given the green light to have it’s official grand opening December 8, 2016. The $1.4 billion casino resort will be open just in time for the holiday season and the live events and functions will be scheduled shortly after. Hosting a boutique-style hotel, integrated 3,000-seat theater, conference center, art, multiple dining options at various prices, along with the signature flower sculptures that are selfie-worthy - then there’s the casino. The casino floor boasts table games and slot machines on the 125,000 square foot floor. If this isn’t appealing to you, the outdoor patio space for Maryland’s spectacular sunsets will surely get you hooked. The hotel will offer 300 rooms making it an exclusive experience running $399 - $599 per night.

Epic Food Fight In what has been called the World’s Biggest Food Fight, more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets and anywhere between 40,000-50,000 prepare for battle. with something from every basket. The staff is eager to explain all the dishes and will treat you with warmth and kindness. They also have an extensive, reasonably priced menu if you chose not to share with dim sum. The locals claim the lightly battered, deep-fried, salt and pepper shrimp is one of the best dishes on the menu. Fresh seafood is available daily including live lobster and crab. Dim Sum menu starts at $3 per basket, lunch plates $6.50, and dinner plates $8.25. New Fortune is just a couple blocks from North Lamar Bingo so you have no excuse to not try it before the session starts.

• Do not bring bottles or hard objects as they can cause accidents and hurt other participants • Do not rip other people’s T-shirts • You must squash the tomatoes before throwing them as this reduces the impact • Ensure you keep a safe distance from the lorries • As soon as you hear the second shot, you must stop throwing tomatoes

HEALTHY LIVING

Feast We all know that food tends to be front and center on Thanksgiving Day. In fact, the majority of people eat well over 2,000 calories during their Thanksgiving meal. Think about it… between the appetizers, rich side dishes, and desserts – the calories can add up quickly, and so can the carbohydrates! If you have diabetes or are trying to manage your weight, don’t let food stress you out this year. You can still enjoy the Thanksgiving feast and even some dessert (since it’s a special occasion). It just requires a little extra planning and self control on your part.

Create a Healthy Plate

One of the biggest problems that people have on Thanksgiving Day is portion control. Not only do we overload our plates with everything on the table, but we often go back for second and third helpings. Remember that Thanksgiving is all about choices. Think about which dishes you can’t live without and which ones you don’t mind passing on. Then adjust portions to keep your carbohydrate and calorie count similar to what you usually eat at dinnertime. From the start, you should only plan to fill your plate once instead of going back for more.

Turkey is usually the central part

of the Thanksgiving feast.

Green Bean Casserole is also a very popular Thanksgiving

side dish. You might be thinking this is a great option since green beans are a non-starchy vegetable. However, as with all casseroles, it can be packed with unhealthy fats and calories from ingredients like creamy soup, butter, and fried onions. Here are some tips when it comes to vegetable side dishes:

Potatoes

are another staple food on Thanksgiving Day. From buttery mashed potatoes to sweet potato casserole – these dishes can really pack in the carbohydrates, saturated fat, and calories. • Keep portions small, especially if there is a lot

Herb-Roasted Potato Medley

Ingredients (This Recipe Serves 16) 10 cups coarsely chopped cauliflower, about 2 heads 2 teaspoons butter 2 large onions, chopped 3 garlic cloves, minced ½ cup all-purpose flour 3 ½ cups 1% milk Salt and pepper to taste ¾ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese 3 tablespoons finely minced parsley

Ingredients 2 lb baby potato mix (purple, red creamers, white creamers) 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil 2 tsp chopped fresh rosemary 1 tsp chopped fresh thyme 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper

Instructions 1. Add 4 quarts of water to a 6-quart saucepan. Bring the water to a boil. Add the cauliflower, and cook for about 10 to 12 minutes or until tender. Drain. Set aside. 2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the onions and garlic, and sauté for 6 to 7 minutes until soft, making sure the onions and garlic do not turn brown. Combine the flour and milk, and whisk until very smooth. Add to the onions and garlic, bring to a simmer, and cook for 2 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Whisk in the cheese, and fold in the cauliflower. Garnish with parsley.

Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 425°F. Coat large baking sheet with cooking spray. 2. Combine all ingredients in large bowl and toss well. Arrange potatoes in single layer on baking sheet. Roast, turning occasionally, until lightly browned and tender, 23 to 25 minutes.

MODERN MOM

/=6C@H<>K>CV CRAFTS

The holidays have officially started. Yay! I absolutely love the food, the cheer, the decorations, the baking, the extra family time... It’s the best! I also love the opportunity Thanksgiving brings for us to stop and ponder all of the blessings in our lives. Everyday routines can get so hectic and stressful that it is sometimes easy to overlook the amazing and wonderful things we have.

Thanksgiving Chain In an effort to spend this month with a “thankful attitude” I found this printable Thanksgiving chain for my family. Everyday we will each take a thankful strip out of the jar, write on it what we are thankful for that day, and add it to our chain. By the time Thanksgiving arrives we will have a long and lovely chain representing how many things we have to be thankful for! My boys are super excited about it and I love seeing the things they think to be thankful for each day. Link To This Printable Chain http://saltandpeppermoms.blogspot.com/2013/11/printable-thanksgiving-chain.html

You could also make a banner of all the things you are thankful for. This banner is super easy and takes basically no money (you probably already have everything) Paper, string, stapler and a marker.

You could also make a wreath to display all the things your thankful for. All you have to do for this one is cut out paper in the shape of leaves, write what your thankful for and pin into Styrofoam wreath.

Clothespin Turkeys Not only are these Clothespin Turkeys super adorable BUT they also make for great keepsakes. Just trace/cut your child’s hand prints out of card stock, glue on some craft feathers and attach to a clothespin for easy displaying!

You’re about to grab life by the horns and take off faster than a rodeo clown. Be prepared for some major shakeups in your life this month, which the way things are going won’t necessarily be a bad thing. Take this time to notice that you are getting ready for 2017.

7KLV LV LW \RXU ĆQDO TXDUWHU RI WKH 2016 and you may feel like you want to call in some people to help you through this trying time. Put that phone down! This is your time to shine and you need to get over these problems on your own. Get ready because it’s time to do some serious work.

SENIOR LIVING

ON THE LIVER

This will be a bit more of a downer article and for this, I do apologize if you have been accustomed to my happier articles. A good friend of mine passed away in middle October from liver cancer. I saved my happier piece for December in place for this very serious article and I do hope you enjoy. The liver, oh the filter of the body. It gets a bad rap among those of us and we generally don’t know the exact function of the liver let alone the fact it is a rare form of cancer. When something is occurring in the liver, we generally pass it off as indigestion and let it go. Let’s get to some facts and information:

4-1-1 on the Liver What exactly is the liver? You know that it’s based in your abdomen area, but other than that not much. You have had some experience with cirrhosis through a friend or family member. Hepatitis B and C are common as well. You could have heard that long-term alcohol intake can largely impact the function of your liver as well as the diseases that can occur due to that prolonged damage. Generally though, the liver is one of the hardest working internal organs that is residing near your stomach. It is the “Grand Central”, the main port of your body. It processes anything that you put into your mouth, anything. That soda you’re drinking, it’s filtering it. The hot dog and hot Cheeto’s, them too. From the intake it repackages it for your body to either use or lose (eliminate through bowels). If you’re a diabetic, your liver can be highly influenced by your insulin levels and 50% of diabetics are likely to develop liver disease, in particular fatty liver disease (Source: National Institute of Health).

The Scary Word - Cancer And you should be scared. Liver cancer is a rare form of cancer that has fewer than 200,000 cases in the United States and there is currently no cure and the treatment is to remove part of the liver, a full transplant, chemotherapy, and in some cases radiation. But any way you look at it, it’s incurable and treatment is a possible help but not definite (Source: Mayo Clinic).

Symptoms

I hate to say it, but the early stages of liver cancer there are no signs of the disease tormenting your body. These don’t happen until later stages when the cancerous cells have spread on to another organ and invaded that part of your body. If you have a friend or family member that passed away from liver cancer, this is why you could find yourself saying, “it all happened so fast.” The most common symptoms (and can show up sooner): • weight loss (without trying) • loss of appetite • feeling very full after a small meal • nausea or vomiting • an enlarged liver (you can feel a mass under the ribs on the right side) • an enlarged spleen (mass under the ribs on the left side) • pain in the abdomen or near the right shoulder blade • swelling in the abdomen • itching • yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice). If you experience any of these symptoms, check with your medical professional (Source: American Cancer Society).

The Help Thankfully there are ways to keep your liver in tip top shape. I know at the end of the month you’ll be sitting down to eat a big Thanksgiving Dinner but here’s some food for thought (pun intended) - look to control portions and eat more plant-based foods. I know, bummer article. I warned you. Obesity is linked to fatty liver disease and obesity also goes hand in hand with nearly every disease possible. If you eat more plant-based foods like beans, legumes, lentils, etc. Your body will be able to function properly. So you like to eat meat, great! But keep the meat at a minimum. If anything else, keep focus on your body. You know you best and you know the aches and pains you feel. Take care of yourself! Thank you for reading this emotional article. My good friend and someone you may know because she was involved in the community Choco Meza passed away on October 9, 2016 from liver cancer. I hope that you all learned something from this. Let me know what else you’d like to read about.

9 FOODS FOR A HEALTHY

LIVER

Garlic

Green Tea

Lemons

Garlic helps your liver activate enzymes that can flush out toxins. It also has a high amount of allicin and selenium, two natural compounds that aid in liver cleansing.

Green tea is full of plant antioxidants known as catechins, which have been known to improve the functions of our liver.

We all know citrus fruits like lemons are full of vitamin C, but lemons also help our bodies cleanse out toxic materials and aid the digestion process.

Grapefruit

Adding more avocados to your diet can help your body produce a type of antioxidant called glutathione, which is needed for our livers to filter out harmful materials.

Avocados Eating or drinking grapefruit juice can help your liver flush out carcinogens and toxins. This fruit is also high in both vitamin C and antioxidant properties.

Turmeric Used as a spice, turmeric has been known to help our bodies digest fats and stimulate the production of bile. It can also act as a natural form of detox for your liver.

Cruciferous Vegetables Leafy Greens Leafy greens like spinach and lettuce have the ability to neutralize metals, chemicals and pesticides that may be in our foods, and act as a protective mechanism for the liver.

Cruciferous veggies like broccoli and Brussels sprouts also increase the amount of glucosinolate (organic compounds) in our bodies that helps create enzyme production for digestion.

Walnuts Walnuts are also high in glutathione and omega-3 fatty acids, which help support our liver through its cleansing process.

ABSOLUTE BEAUTY BY CELESTE

Fixing Broken Makeup We all have that one favorite bronzer, powder, blush, or eyeshadow that just happened to slip out of our hands or fall off of the counter and break into a million pieces. Oh no - you just bought that and now it’s ruined! Now, before you go chucking it into the trash, it can be saved! Yes, you heard correctly by using this simple easy trick you can turn your broken makeup into new again.

Items Needed: -

Broken makeup Rubbing Alcohol Metal spoon Small brush (I am using a brow brush because of the small angle tip) Small piece of saran wrap Paper towel

Step 1: Cover your broken makeup with the saran wrap and use the end of the spoon to finish crushing the powder into an even consistency.

Step 2: Remove saran wrap and place the broken makeup on a paper towel.

Step 3: Pour some rubbing alcohol into the top cap and slowly pour over broken product. Use the end of the spoon to mix until a thick creamy consistency is reached. (I used two caps full of the alcohol in my bronzer to obtain the correct consistency, depending on the size of your product you might use more or less alcohol)

Step 4: Now you can use the round part of the spoon to pat down and smooth the product.

Step 5: Get your brush and lightly dip it into the alcohol, use this to clean the excess powder along the sides and then tear a piece of your paper towel slightly wet it and wipe down any remaining powder.

Step 6: Leave open and let dry for 4-6 hours or preferably overnight. Enjoy your once broken, now new again product!! 28
