I had to,” the actor said to 10 News on Wednesday. “I’m out to save all the Dennis Quaids of the world.” The cat was featured as part of a “Clear the Shelters” campaign. Quaid co-hosts a pet-focused podcast appropriately named “The Pet Show.” His co host, Jimmy Jellinek, will fly from Los Angeles this weekend to pick up Dennis Quaid The Cat. Lynchburg Humane Society are amazed at the excellent response this story has received and are currently planning to start naming more animals celebrity names, in hopes of repeating this success. 6

The summer is slowly winding down, and man, was it a memorable one! We opened two bingo halls in the short span of just 5 days and that was the first time for us! We welcomed Seguin Day Bingo and Killeen Bingo as the newest members of our family. Seguin, we are so excited to have paired up with our sister hall out there and have changed around some hours. Check out our ad to find out more information! The new hall offers players more flexibility when they choose to play bingo. Killeen Bingo is a brand new bingo hall at a brand new location and a chance for Golden Bingo Family to meet new players. We are excited to be able to serve a new community and form new bonds and relationships. Are you looking for a part-time job? If you are in San Antonio, visit Golden Bingo during work days between 10 AM and 2 PM to speak with the hiring manager on the spot. If you are interested in employment in other cities, we recommend calling the hall as soon as they open or sending us a message on Facebook to get a good time for an interview!

healthy living
We often take the time to remind you that a healthy mind lives in a healthy body - and vice versa. While bingo serves as an amazing exercise for your brain, it does keep one sitting for long periods of time. You could be doing exercises on your bingo chair, but let’s be real, nobody does that. Still, some stretches and workouts are very important, so what should you do about that? We are slowly coming to terms with the times we live in and the reality of a pandemic around us, so we must reevaluate our usual routines and habits. Bingo halls are quite low risk locations, where contact with others is minimal and short, and physical distancing is very much possible. You may be hesitant to join an indoor exercise group, and with good reason, too. If you are interested in yoga, we highly recommend starting with doing some yoga alone at home. This is a wonderful activity that can be adapted to just about anybody. Different body shapes and levels of expertise work very well together in yoga and you do not need any special equipment, which is always a plus! Here are some amazing Youtube channels from great yoga teachers.
1. YOGA WITH ADRIENE
2. BODY POSITIVE YOGA
With over 4.8 million subscribers, Adriene Mishler is often called the queen of YouTube yoga, a status easily earned with her more than 8 million subscribers. Adriene has a very welcoming personality and she is very much down to earth.
Body Positive Yoga founder Amber Karnes offers many helpful tips and modifications for practitioners of all sizes, from performing chaturanga properly to overcoming the sticky spots of sun salutations. While she does like to use props, she is always mindful about offering substitutes that you may have lying around the house. Instead of buying a yoga strap, you could use a belt, for example.
Adriene makes a good job of reminding you that you need to find the position that feels good to you. Listen to your body and respect the signs it is giving you. There is no need to compare yourself to anyone, especially not a professional yoga teacher!! Listen to your body and do as much or as little as you can - and this can change day by day, based on how you are feeling. For beginners, we highly recommend her “Foundations of Yoga” series, which breaks down the basic alignment and benefits of tons of poses. 10
THE BINGO NUGGET // SEPTEMBER 2020
Amber is also very open about her own relationship with her body, and addresses topics like how to handle negative thoughts and resist the pressure of diet culture, to encourage her followers to develop greater self-compassion and confidence both on and off the mat.

3. YOGA WITH TIM You could be a beginner in yoga, but still in good shape and very fit. If this description fits you well, you may want to look at Tim Sensei’s yoga channel. He shares a new video weekly for vinyasa yoga. Vinyasa is a style of yoga characterized by stringing postures together so that you move from one to another, seamlessly, using breath. If you are interested in the physical part of yoga, these videos may be right for you. A lot of his classes last for 30 minutes and he also has a great 30-day challenge, if you’re feeling ambitious about kickstarting your at-home yoga practice.
4. MYSORE TEACHER TRAINING INSTITUTE (SAMYAK YOGA) The Samyak Yoga Ashram in Mysore, India is a well-respected yoga school that posts hatha, vinyasa, and ashtanga classes that typically last anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. The videos here aren’t oneon-one, but actually give you a glimpse into a roomful of other students who are practicing at the Mysore Teacher Training Institute.
5. THE YOGA ROOM If India is not your thing and you want an experience closer to home, The Yoga Room is what you need. Zelinda Yañez runs a Texas-based studio with tutorials and yoga flows for those seeking a gentle, therapeutic practice. Zelinda is super tranquil and her intent is to help yoga practitioners of all shapes and sizes enjoy a safe, comfortable practice. Check out her latest 30-minute video, “Strengthening Yoga For Bigger Bodies,” and her chair yoga series.

MODERN MOM
Each month of the year has it’s own health observations to bring light to the wellness issues that impact our society. With children going back to school, this September is National Childhood Obesity Awareness Month. Growing obesity rates affect not only adults, but children and adolescents, too. Currently one out every five children in the United States is obese, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Unfortunately with increasing obesity rates we also see an increase in related health conditions such as heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, asthma and sleep apnea among children. Not only are obese children at a higher risk to become obese adults; but the risk factors associated with weight are more likely to be severe. These children also have a higher risk of being the target of bullying, having lower self-esteem and potential depression and behavioral issues. Needless to say, there are many benefits to be had from making changes to curb childhood obesity and these changes start in the home. Here are some simple steps you can take:
EAT TOGETHER AS A FAMILY Studies have found that families that eat dinner together most days of the week have children that are less likely to be obese are likelier to have healthier eating habits. Participating in family dinners can also decrease your child’s way to take time to slow down and enjoy time together as family.
OFFER HEALTHY FOOD OPTIONS Kids need balanced meals that include all of the food groups. Be sure to provide lots of fruits of vegetables, include low-fat dairy for children over age two. Opt for whole grains, and choose lean meats and proteins. Kids may turn up their noses at some of these options; especially at first. Don’t give up! Kids develop their food preferences through exposure and experiences, so it may take several tries before kids will adopt a food.
SERVE APPROPRIATE PORTIONS The biggest issue we face in America today is our excess food consumption, overall. Be sure that you are providing your kids with portion sizes that are appropriate for their age. Simply having a moderate approach in the amount of food that they eat can help children maintain a healthy weight.
LIMIT SCREEN TIME TO 2 HOURS OR LESS Screen time can have a negative impact on children’s development in a variety of ways. One critical impact is an increase in obesity risks with higher screen time. Replace screen time with physical activity or other activities that use creativity and imagination. 16
THE BINGO NUGGET // SEPTEMBER 2020
https://caloriecontrol.org/september-is-national-childhood-obesity-awareness-month/
risk of developing disordered eating patterns, as well. Even beyond all these benefits, family dinners are a great
LIMIT HIGH FAT AND HIGH SUGAR FOODS These may be the foods many children prefer, but they tend to run low on nutrition and high in calories. If you are having trouble making the transition with your children try making healthier versions of their favorite snacks. Stevia is a safe alternative sweetener to use to replace or reduce excess sugars. For example, you could sprinkle some stevia into plain yogurt and add some fruit to replace ice cream. To replace potato chips, try thinly slicing a sweet potato, spray it with olive oil and lightly season for homemade potato chips. (Bake at 425* for 20 minutes.)
PROMOTE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY It is recommended that kids partake in 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous activity most days of the week. Take time as a family to be active. This not only provides a great example for your children, but also helps the adults get in much-needed activity, as well. So, get outside and getting moving, and more importantly‌have fun!
https://caloriecontrol.org/september-is-national-childhood-obesity-awareness-month/
BE A ROLE MODEL Kids learn by example and will often pick up the behavior of the adults in their life. Further, if you have a child already managing a weight problem it can be difficult to make changes when they feel different from other family members. Being active and healthy as a family is a great way to support each other and set the stage for success.

Your home life is incredibly important this September and you must remember to keep that at the forefront of your expectations throughout this month. While you’re not really looking to further professional growth, it will happen naturally due to the changes in your personality. You’ve got a bit more pep in your step.
You’re putting yourself first and all others need to just move aside. Right now your life is headed in the right direction and you need to keep this momentum going. You may be tempted to see other opportunities through but keep your eyes on your dreams and goals. And if it’s not serving, modify.
You can indeed have what you want and no you don’t need to make exceptions or make arguments for what that is and looks like. This month your confidence is through the roof and you’re ready to truly seize what is yours. You just have to truly establish yourself and do the inner work to figure out what that is.
If you’re in a relationship, things are going very well for you this month. Make sure that you try to eliminate as much stress from your life because this will be incredibly harmful for your health. Your professional life is on fire right now and you’re ready for more. Thankfully your mental health is also on the same wavelength and you’ve never felt more secure.
Rocky waters may be in your forecast but don’t worry about these challenges because you’re going to be having a fantastic month. Confidence and life are flowing through to help you get through these obstacles. From above, your problems will be small and how you work through it will be appreciated.
Forget about what’s going on everywhere else, the stars are ready for you to focus on everything that makes you remarkably you, dear Pisces. Everything around you is set for cheer and your career prospects are being supported by your friends and family. Love is also in the air at the beginning of the month.
You’re ready to get your life in order this month and it’s going to really pay off. Start small, try to make attainable goals that you can easily work your way up to making a larger goal seem possible. You’re going to be very aggressive in your approach and that may freak people out, stay your course.

What’s also perfectly ok is for you to spend money and time on things that just make you feel good. Don’t let others’ opinions dictate your happiness.
Stability will be your innermost focus. While you may not be as focused on your career you need to remember that things come in cycles and your professional wishes will be there towards the end of the month. Everything ebbs and flows in harmony and you’re ready for your symphony to begin.
Challenges are coming your way, but dear Cancer just remember we have all of these waves in our lives and there is calmness just beyond the horizon. This month you’re going to be coming into contact with people that will help you improve your professional prospects. Take time to look after yourself.
Accomplishments and growth are coming your way this month! You’ve spent the time cultivating your wishes and dreams. You’ve gone through the motions of looking over your challenges and how to overcome them. This month is the time to see your work blossom without much effort.

At the start of the pandemic, we were told not to wear masks because there was a legitimate concern that the limited supply of surgical masks and N95 respirators should be saved for the health care workers. UC San Francisco epidemiologist George Rutherford, MD, believes it was a mistake to tell the public not to use masks. “We should have told people to wear cloth masks right off the bat,” he said. Once the scientists started gathering more knowledge on the virus, CDC changed its guidance and now strongly advocates mask wearing for everyone. Research shows that both pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic transmission is not only possible, but very common. Monica Gandhi, an infectious diseases physician and researcher at the University of California, San Francisco, explains that studies vary, but “evidence from 16 studies and estimated the overall rate of asymptomatic infection [seem] to be 40%-45%”.
Least effective, however, were bandanas, knitted masks and neck fleeces (also called gaiter masks), the latter of which may be worse than wearing no mask at all. The researchers found that neck fleeces actually dispersed more spray into the air, not less, because the material broke down larger respiratory droplets into smaller particles. If you are making your own mask, consider using synthetic material polypropylene, laid in between two layers of cotton. This combination seemed the best for home made masks. After this three-layer combo, a double layer of polypropylene was a slightly worse choice, but still quite good.
Scientists think people infected with the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) are most contagious from a few days before COVID-19 symptoms appear till a few days after they start. By the time we receive your positive diagnosis (if you exhibit symptoms and go get tested, or just get randomly tested), our peak for spreading COVID-19 has already passed. Armed with all this new knowledge and the desire to stop the spread of the virus and protect ourselves, one may find itself looking at different kinds of masks available and wondering - what’s the difference? As it turns out, there is quite a bit of difference between different kinds of masks. Researchers at Duke University tested the effectiveness of 14 commonly available masks and found that surgical masks and N95 respirators without valves worked the best at blocking respiratory droplets from projecting into the air when a person talks. A variety of double-layer polypropylene and cotton masks also reduced a significant amount of spray from normal speech. 28

Several layers of cotton masks were even more effective in containing respiratory droplets than N95 masks with exhalation valves. The reason is suspected to be the fact that these masks are made to protect the user from breathing in harmful materials, not necessarily the other way around.
