Royal Bingo via Zoom with Prince William and Duchess Katerine Prince William and Kate Middleton have spent a lot of time getting in touch with care workers in the UK. Just like many other Brits, the members of the royal family wanted to thank them for their efforts in fighting the coronavirus pandemic. Shire Hall is just one of the many places they called over the last few weeks, but the last call made to this location was special. That’s because the royal couple used the opportunity to play bingo with the residents. Bingo is one of the most popular games in the United Kingdom and it is enjoyed in both land-based locations and over the Internet with hundreds of new bingo sites reviewed at websites like bingosites.net in the UK. Over the last couple of years, the number of people playing online has increased sharply, peaking in the time of the coronavirus crisis. The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William pleasantly surprised the residents of Shire Hall by playing bingo with them. Participants were naturally excited about the prospect of playing their favorite game with the royal couple. Joan was the lucky resident who got the full house first, which prompted the Duke and Duchess to cheer for the winner. The hosts were obviously impressed by their performance in calling numbers, but this was far from enough to sweep the pensioner off her feet.
Michigan Man Wins $2M Lottery Jackpot After Clerk Gives Him Wrong Ticket A man in suburban Detroit was given the wrong lottery ticket. But there was no mistake about the result: a $2 million winner. The Michigan Lottery said the man stopped at a gas station in Eastpointe, Michigan, to put air in a tire. He needed change for the air machine and also asked for a $10 Lucky 7′s scratch-off ticket. “The clerk handed me the $20 ticket by mistake. He offered to exchange it for me but something told me to keep it. I am sure glad I did!” the man said in a statement released Tuesday by the Lottery. The name of the 57-year-old man wasn’t released. He decided to take a lump sum of about $1.3 million instead of $2 million spread over many years, the Lottery said.

Hello bingo lovers, The summer is in full swing, and so are we! All of our bingo halls are up and running. We continue to thank our amazing players for respecting our COVID-19 precautions that are in place. Your understanding and compliance allows us to keep our bingo halls very low-risk locations. We hope you and your family are staying well. Love, Augie

healthy living
August is designated as Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month. A good rule of thumb is to have your children’s eyes examined during well-child visits, beginning around age four. This is especially important considering how much time we are spending in front of screens. But what can you do at home to make sure their - and your - eyes remain healthy day to day? Excessive screen-time can lead to eye strain, dry eyes, headaches and insomnia. While there are low chances of permanent vision damage from screens and the blue light they emit, it is true that reading on the computer causes more strain on your eyes than reading from printed pages. Focusing the eyes on computer screens or other digital displays has been shown to reduce a person’s blink rate by a third to a half, which tends to dry out the eyes. We also tend to view digital devices at less than ideal distances or angles. You do not need expensive computer glasses for yourself and the kids. They are shown to be no more effective than neutral filters according to a recent study published in Journal of the American Academy of Optometry. Instead, you could do these simple environment-changing steps: •
KEEP YOUR DISTANCE: The eyes actually have to work harder to see close up than far away. Try keeping the monitor or screen at arm’s length, about 25 inches away. Position the screen so your eye gaze is slightly downward.
•
REDUCE GLARE: Glass screens can produce glare that can aggravate the eye. Try using a matte screen filter.
•
ADJUST LIGHTING: If a screen is much brighter than the surrounding light, your eyes have to work harder to see. Adjust your room lighting and try increasing the contrast on your screen to reduce eye strain.
•
GIVE YOUR EYES A BREAK: Remember to blink and follow the 20-20-20 rule. Take a break every 20 minutes by looking at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds. Looking into the distance allows your eyes to relax.
•
KEEP EYES MOIST: Keep artificial tears at hand to help lubricate your eyes when they feel dry. Consider using a desktop humidifier. Office buildings have humidity-controlled environments that suck moisture out of the air. In winter, heaters on high can further dry your eyes.
•
STOP USING DEVICES BEFORE BED: There is evidence that blue light may affect the body’s circadian rhythm, our natural wake and sleep cycle. During the day, blue light wakes us up and stimulates us. So, too much blue light exposure late at night from your phone or other devices may make it harder to get to sleep. Limit screen time one to two hours before bedtime. Use nighttime settings on devices and computers that minimize blue light exposure.

How to stay
MODERN MOM
HEALTHY & SANE
DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC Are you feeling a little stir crazy after staying home for so long and watching society as we know it completely transform? I’ve gone through many emotional stages during this process so I’ve had to find things to keep myself sane during this time. We could be in this current state of uncertainty for awhile and while I can’t make social distancing go by any faster, I can offer up some ways to take care of yourself and your kids in the meantime. Give your self some grace mama, right now it feels like we could all use some more grace (and opportunities for mindfulness).
Taking Care of Yourself YOU’VE GOT TO MOVE YOUR BODY I don’t care how you do it, sister, but you have got to make sure you are moving your body consistently. Go for a walk or run, jump on a stationary bike, or better yet do some online yoga. You find all sorts of free exercises on Youtube that you can do at your house. YOU’VE GOT TO SET A SCHEDULE Wether you are working from home or a stay at home mom, you’re still with your kids 24-7! It’s getting old really fast, I know! I just about went bonkers until I figured out some type of daily calendar for us. When you have a calendar, you have some balance of normalcy, and you and your kids know what to MY PLANNER
expect.
You might think that staying home means there’s nothing to plan, but it’s even more important to plan during these unusual days. It’s not so much about being “productive” or crossing things off your to-do list. It’s more about being intentional with the way you’re spending your time for the sake of your mental, physical and spiritual health. 16
THE BINGO NUGGET // AUGUST 2020
MY MORNING ROUTINE I cannot overstate the sanity level created by having a routine — even if it’s simple. The exhaustion created by decision fatigue combined with the exhaustion created by the anxiety we’re all experiencing right now leaves me completely overwhelmed. My morning routine includes lots of healthy habits that help me start my day positive and productive. YOU’VE GOT TO TAKE SOME TIME FOR YOURSELF When you make your daily schedule, make sure you’re putting some time in for taking care of yourself. Gone are the days (for now – remember, this is just temporary) of grabbing a quick bite with girlfriends, heading to the gym, or even going on a trip with your significant other in the name of self-care but that does not mean you can’t take care of yourself in the very deepest sense of the word. You can take 3 minutes to check in with yourself about how you’re feeling. You can take 10 minutes to talk with a bestie over FaceTime. You can take a walk in the fresh air.
Taking Care of Your Children
NEW ACTIVITIES AND CRAFTS
This has been a life saver. If you have kids then you know they need constant entertainment and that can be exhausting. Parents are missing the days we can burn our kids energy playing at the playground, or taking them to the zoo, reading time at the library, Chick-fil-A play place, a museum, playdates, etc. KEEP OLD HABITS & ROUTINES A sense of normalcy has been bring us peace during this time. When so much of your normal structure is thrown off because of things out of your control, it’s nice to keep habits and routines that you can control to help things feel a bit normal and add structure to your days. It’s a great time for self experimentation and expression. You’ve been working through to figure out what you are, what you want to come out of this time as, to become the butterfly that you truly are. Don’t get upset if others aren’t ready for your wings to spread.
Your creative vibes are flowing out like a sprinkler. Dear Virgo, be very careful during this time to guard who you give this energy to, not everyone is worth your sparkle. Make some time for yourself to sit down with your thoughts and write them out.
Hey Libra, how are you doing? It’s been a really hard time for your soul and you’ve been hit with a lot of changes in mood. While you normally like to keep things in balance, right now is a difficult time. Be careful not to selfdestruct during this time.
Impulsiveness is becoming part of your nature and it’s something that you’re beginning to really like. Just be mindful of things you’re about to say before it comes out, play out the conversation in your head before you say something that can hurt.

You’re missing the carefree days that we had before “all of this” and it’s beginning to weigh down on your heart. Don’t worry though, lovely Sagittarius, make your home a vacation and take a little bit of time to indulge in things that you ordinarily put aside.
This month, take the time to get back to your inner child. What sort of activities did you get a thrill out of? Pick up the sport or activity you’ve longed for, you will surprise yourself (and others) with the natural ability that will come back.
You’ve been longing for some peace and tranquility and it finally seems like it’s coming your way this month. August will be a time of great joy and harmony, just don’t let this get you too comfortable to the point that you get lazy.
It’s a time for change indeed, get that dream journal out and start taking inventory of the different areas of your life. You will be surprised at the wins that you have had, make sure to celebrate these. Don’t beat yourself up over the missteps, just assess what you need to do.

Creativity is flowing through your body right now; you need an outlet and fast. You’ll be finding yourself ready to take on more responsibilities during this time and your strength will come through your personal drive to succeed.
August will bring so much time for you to sit yourself down and bring in new friendships. Watch out though, there’s a lot of fakeness out there. Make sure to keep your eyes and ears open during this time and pay attention to your gut.
Communication is key and you’re the holder of it during this creative time. You’re taking everything with a sense of comic relief and now is the time to let your imagination go wild. Set aside some time to dedicate to yourself and your art.
You know yourself Cancer and leadership generally isn’t one of your strengths however this month you’re about to show them something else. But don’t worry because your team will pick up steam and everything that you’ve been working on will flow from the well of your knowledge.

senior living
Vitamin D deficiency is a common condition among people of all ages, but older adults are at increased risk. The signs of low vitamin D are often subtle and can be confused with other health conditions, especially in seniors. Learning where vitamin D comes from, the symptoms, and how it can be addressed will help you make sure you’re getting the nutrients they need. HOW DO PEOPLE GET VITAMIN D? Scientists define vitamins as organic compounds that are vital for normal metabolic function that must be consumed because they cannot be produced in the body. Vitamin D, however, is produced by the body in a chemical reaction that occurs when the skin is exposed to UVB rays from sunlight. Since they spend the majority of their time indoors, older adults get minimal exposure to natural sunlight. Additionally, as skin thins with age, vitamin D synthesis becomes much less efficient. Reduced appetite and impaired absorption of nutrients further compound this problem for seniors. SYMPTOMS OF VITAMIN D DEFICIENCY IN SENIORS WEAK MUSCLES

to cognitive decline and a person’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. WEIGHT GAIN Vitamin D appears to play an important role in regulating appetite and body weight as well. Research has shown that lower levels of vitamin D are associated with obesity, whereas increased vitamin D levels have been associated with reductions in body fat. When a senior is deficient in vitamin D, these signals to the brain get disrupted and the body doesn’t know when to stop eating. This can make people overeat and gain weight.

Vitamin D is an extremely important nutrient that the body needs to function properly, and insufficiencies may trigger severe health problems. The combination of symptoms caused by low vitamin D, such as fatigue, pain and depression can easily be misdiagnosed or written off as inevitable side effects of aging. Be sure to make a doctor’s appointment if you notice any of the above symptoms in your loved one. A simple blood test and recommendation for lifestyle changes and/or an overthe-counter vitamin D supplement can help seniors feel better fast.
