Texas Tech Defensive Back Makes Fun of Predictive Media Questions by Playing Bingo Texas Tech defensive back Jah’Shawn Johnson played with the journalists on Big 12 Media Days. With the help of some teammates and the Red Raiders’ sports information staff, Johnson put together a bingo card of topics they player would likely get asked. By mid afternoon, 12 of the 24 bingo squares had been crossed out. “We got together and came up with a few questions we thought the media would ask us, so I did bingo earlier and I have a bunch that I can mark out now,” Johnson said. “It’s been fun.” (IG)

Bingo fan wins $50,000 in a Canadian lottery game Howard Sawyer from Ontario won a $50,000 top prize with instant bingo. “The game of bingo has a lot of great memories for me,” shared Howard while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where he picked up his winnings.“I used to play bingo with my late mother and my first wife, who passed away several years ago. It was a lot of fun so naturally I’m drawn to instant bingo,” he said. He bought three tickets to play while drinking a cup of coffee. The last ticket was the winner, though at first, he thought he had only won $10,000. As he looked closer at the rules he realized he won much more than that. Instant bingo is available for $3 a play and the top prize is $50,000. To win, players need to scratch a line, 4 corners, a letter T, a letter X or an outside box on their Bingo game cards. Odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.45. (IG)

BINGOliCIOUS

casa la bonita 23535 IH 10 W Frontage Suite 3001 San Antonio, TX 78256

It was bound to happen – a bad review. In mid August, I took the family out to a far off restaurant north of 1604 that just opened up. I had heard great reviews from friends at the gym, there was something for everyone at Casa La Bonita. We went out on a Friday night, early. It took the wait staff more than fifteen minutes to take our drink order, another ten to get our drinks, another ten to order our food, then finally our food came an hour after we initially sat down. I can easily look past bad service if the food is great. The problem is, it wasn’t. Not even close. My children ordered chicken strips and sliders with cheese; the chicken strips were cold and overcooked while the burger was cold and missed the cheese. My husband had tilapia with rice and vegetables – all cold, overcooked, salty. I ordered spinach enchiladas without cheese. Cheese overflowed my plate and the spinach was so cold and salty it was inedible. We will not be heading back to Casa La Bonita, not even close. Save your appetite for nearby Las Palapas.

MODERN MOM

I am oddly around newborns or friends that are preparing for baby showers as they see their bodies growing. Before you start with that fun barcode scanning gun and having a field day with your registry at a fine retailer – hold on! There are things that you just will not need and others you will scratch your head at.

1. Just a Fitted Sheet – Seriously, simple fitted cotton sheet. Do not drive yourself crazy with sheets and bedding. You will have other things to deal with. Remember, bumpers are not ok. You will be changing sheets out often, kids spit up, leak out of their diapers, bodily functions you never thought possible out of your precious cherub. We liked this one from Burt’s Bees and they’re fairly inexpensive.

2. A simple backpack aka your lifesaver aka your new purse/diaper bag. I can remember receiving a beautiful diaper bag from a wonderful family member. It was great, designer brand, pockets (moms love pockets) but it was heavy. My shoulder was already dying from holding a child but the diaper bag was insane. A simple bag will do and it’s so simple to just throw everything you need in one bag. 14

THE BINGO NUGGET // SEPTEMBER 2017

5. Snot Sucker - My favorite one to talk about and why I left it last. The NoseFrida from Fridababy. Straight up the grossest thing but it is beyond the best thing on the market and you cannot live life without the NoseFrida. Yes, there are the aspirators with the bulb, but I’m that mom who enjoys seeing just how much comes out of my children. You will too, because a breathing baby is a happy baby – a happy baby is a relieved mommy.

3. Baby Kangaroo Maker - This is the only expensive item that I will recommend. Find a good baby carrier you love. We had the stroller but after baby #2 came along and my daughter was two years old, she was occupying said stroller. We loved loved our Ergobaby. Living in Texas, the Moby just wouldn’t work where it’s like a sauna every step you make. If you’re a nursing mom, you will love your baby carrier because your newborn is at your chest and has no where else to go to eat, fast food.

4. Bottles – If you choose not to nurse or if it doesn’t work for you, that’s where the beauty of technology and science come in with bottles. Invest in some good ones. You may hear a lot about glass bottles for babies, do what you want. We loved Tommee Tippee though. Get a few sized nipples, maybe just three each but be prepared for the hand washing.

Happy shopping and can’t wait to see the next generation of bingo players!

If you can reduce lower back pain and arthritis by a simple practice in stretching, why wouldn’t you? Common in older adults, osteoarthritis and spinal stenosis can easily be reduced by deteriorating cartilage between the facet joints. Overtime, pain in the lower back develops and spreads to the hips, knees, neck, fingers, and toes. While they can’t be avoided, the pain can easily be managed with a stretching/ yoga practice. absolute beauty by celeste

Have you ever looked at the ingredients on the bottles of skin care, shampoo, or makeup? Words like BHA, Dibutyl phthalate, DMDM hydantoin, methenamine‌I could go on and on but the point being made is that most of us don’t know the meaning of these words and the effects they may have on our bodies. Did you know that 1 in 8 ingredients used in personal care products are industrial chemicals such as carcinogens and pesticides? Many of these chemicals have been directly related to developmental and reproductive toxicity, endocrine disruption and cancer The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has found 11 carcinogenic chemicals that are currently being used in personal care products, Formaldehyde, Phenacetin, Coal Tar, Benzene, Mineral Oils (untreated or mildly treated), Ethylene oxide, Heavy Metals, Cadmium, Arsenic, Chromium and Silica.

It is unfortunate that

many of these chemicals are prohibited in Japan and Europe because of unacceptable risks of harm to the environment & human health and still deemed safe in the US. I myself have been oblivious to these findings and will be re-evaluating my own makeup collection. Credo (www. credobeauty.com), is a website that is dedicated to never

contain myself and managed to stay dry. The event takes place once a year, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fun event to chase next summer! Tickets are cheap and dogs are welcomed! And so back to the question, what is the third most favorite ice cream in America? The answer: butter pecan.

The event lasts all day, multiple vendors set up shop and hand out sample size scoops of their most popular flavors, and boy, were there plenty to choose from. From Popsicles to liquor inspired flavors, you’ll be sure to find something to your liking. My favorite, the Chamoy pop made by Odd Pop ATX. I found myself in line for one at least 3 times throughout my day. And yes, the lines were lonnnng. Other favored vendors included Casey’s New Orleans Snowballs, which allow you to fix and pour your own snow, Amy’s Ice Cream, and HEB creamy creations. The festival even hosted a few ice cream eating contests. I participated, but couldn’t come close, it seemed that most of the contestants had practiced at some point and so I was left in the dust while stuffing my face with an ice cream sandwich. The festival did not stop there! Aside from being surrounded by all types of ice cream favorites, food trucks also filled the yard and kept hungry stomachs full. Of course there was a few bar tents for
