BINGO FACTS Bingo is a fun game, for the old and young ones alike. It has been around since the 1500s, when it started as an Italian game that is still being played today. Through the years the game has evolved from being called ‘beano’ to its more popular name today. Below are some of the most popular fun facts about bingo that every self-respecting bingo lover needs to know by heart. The game was originally known as ‘beano’ in the US, and was renamed ‘bingo’ when an overly enthusiastic player was so overcome by his prospective win that he shouted ‘bingo’ instead of ‘beano.’ The name ‘beano’ came from the fact that the game was previously done by covering the numbers with beans, since no multi-colored daubers were around in the 1930s. Goldfish Gets Braces. Yes, Really Less than a 1.5 miles North of Southeast Bingo and the New Mission Bingo (1219 SE Military Dr) is a small, rustic, family owned BBQ joint that has brought smoked meats to the south side since 2001. Seat yourself at any of the picnic tables and breathe in the delicious aroma of BBQ. It’s super clean and decorated with odd antique items and pictures. Dedicated to creating return customers, they offer quick, friendly service, and well-prepared meals in a family friendly setting. For just under $10 per plate, you can choose from 6 expertly smoked meats with 2 delicious, homemade sides. If you have a smaller appetite, the Southside Sandwich is just right for you. Join them any Thursday or Friday for all-you-can-eat beef ribs with sweet, tangy, homemade BBQ sauce plus all the fixins. You won’t be disappointed when you stop in between sessions for a great meal in a cozy south side, locally run restaurant.
Here’s a sight you don’t see everyday: a wee goldfish, with “braces.” The fish, named Mr. Hot Wing, was brought to Lehigh Valley Veterinary Dermatology last week with breathing and eating difficulties. The Pennsylvania clinic says the goldfish was born without a lower jaw bone, making it impossible for the creature to keep its mouth open. To save Mr. Hot Wing, veterinarian Brian Palmeiro performed surgery and created a set of “custom braces” crafted from a plastic credit card. The brace, explains the clinic, helps keep the fish’s mouth open, allowing it to eat and breathe normally. According to WABC-TV, the procedure cost $150. The Huffington Post | Dominique Mosbergen

All humans have to eat food for growth and maintenance of a healthy body, but we humans have different requirements as infants, children (kids), teenagers, young adults, adults, and seniors. For example, infants may require feeding every four hours until they gradually age and begin to take in more solid foods. Eventually they develop into the more normal pattern of eating three times per day as young kids. However, as most parents know, kids, teenagers, and young adults often snack between meals. Snacking is often not limited to these age groups because adults and seniors often do the same. 10

HEALTHY RECIPES Mexican Chopped Salad with Lime Cilantro Dressing Ingredients Mexican Chopped Salad • 2 teaspoons olive oil • 1 cup frozen corn or 1 cob of corn • 1.5 cups cooked black beans (or one 15-ounce can) • 1 avocado, diced • 1 red bell pepper, diced • 1 small red onion • 1 cucumber, chopped • 8 cups romaine lettuce, chopped • .5 cup crumbled feta or Cojita cheese
Lime Cilantro Dressing • 1 bunch cilantro leaves, rinsed well • .5 cup fresh lime juice • .5 cup olive oil • 2-3 tablespoons honey, to your taste • salt and pepper to taste
Directions 1. Heat oil in a pan and add corn. Saute until corn gets some brown spots and caramelizes a little bit. Remove. 2. In a large bowl, combine beans, avocado, red bell pepper, red onion, cucumber and corn. 3. To make Lime Cilantro Dressing, feed cilantro leaves through food processor tube and process until finely minced. Add lime juice and process a few seconds. Slowly pour olive oil through food processor tube and process until dressing emulsifies. Add honey, season with salt and pepper, and process a few seconds to combine. To Serve- Place a large handful of romaine lettuce on salad plate. Top with a few large spoonfuls of corn, black bean mixture, and 1 tablespoon of crumbled feta cheese. Drizzle a little Lime Cilantro Dressing on top. If desired, crumble some baked tortilla chips on top. April | The Bingo Nugget |

CROCKPOT RECIPES FIESTA CHICKEN This is one of my go to recipes for my crockpot when I have some extra chicken and dont know what to make. It is SUPER simple and most fitting for FIESTA season!
Ingredients 4 chicken breast (frozen or raw) 1 packet Fiesta Ranch dip (by the salad dressing) 1 can black beans (drained and rinsed) 1 can Rotel 1 can corn not drained 1 block cream cheese
Instructions 1. Place chicken in slow cooker 2. Pour in beans, rotel, corn in different corners of crockpot 3. Sprinkle Fiesta Ranch seasoning on top 4. Cook on high in the slow cooker for 4 hours or 6 on low. Shred with forks and eat over rice with tortillas. TIPS** Instead of the usual Rotel I used petite diced tomatoes drained, as my little kids don’t like the spice from Rotel. The cream cheese doesn’t need to cook all day with the chicken. In fact, it might curdle if you boil it. I typically toss it in about 40 minutes before we eat, it just needs to get soft enough for you to stir in.

FIESTA MEDAL SASH HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN
Being a San Antonio native I can tell you that I have collected hundreds of Fiesta medals over the years. Now watching my children collect their own I have always wondering where I should store these medals. I then came up with a great idea, a sash! This way they can display their medals and have a safe place to store them so they dont get lost from year to year. I actually searched online to buy one and was suprised that I couldn’t find any premade sashes. So I headed to the fabric store to see what I could create myself.
STEP 1- You don’t need a pattern for a sash. You really need two long rectangles. Enough to go from hip to hip and over their shoulder. Basically, you’ll have the sash and let’s call it a liner STEP 2- Pin the two together with the fabric you want showing facing inward on both pieces. Sew the two long sides together and make a long tube. Flip the tube inside out to hide the seams. STEP 3- Then take the sash, put it on your child to measure where you want the seams to come together on their hip. You’ll want to pin it on a diagonal, so that it rests flat against their hip. Then sew up the seam, just make sure that you sew the seam on the “inside” of the sash, so the raw seam isn’t sticking out!

DIABETIC RECIPE Carnitas Tacos Traditionally, carnitas are deep fried in lard - a nutritionist’s nightmare! Now, using healthier cooking methods and ingredients, you can enjoy carnitas without sacrificing the crispy outside and tender, juicy inside of the pork.
Ingredients 1 1/4 - pound pork tenderloin 1 medium orange 1 teaspoon garlic salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper 1 tablespoon canola oil 12 6-inch corn tortillas
Instructions 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Trim fat from pork. Juice orange over a bowl (you should have about 1/4 cup orange juice). Brush orange juice evenly onto pork tenderloin. Sprinkle with garlic salt and black pepper; set aside. 2. In a large oven-going nonstick skillet* heat oil over medium-high heat. Add tenderloin. Cook tenderloin for 5 to 10 minutes or until golden brown on all sides, turning to brown evenly. Drain off fat.
