In 2015, you gained a proud position in the hallowed history of Shrine Masons. In fact, Alzafar Shriners enjoy a brilliant reputation throughout the world as being among the best in Shriners International. I trust in the future by your continued successes in philanthropic fund raising, your continued dominance within State and International Shrine competitions, and with the assistance of divine blessing and the same kind providence who has heretofore favored our cause, you will win even more victories and add even more luster to the impeccable and envious reputation you now enjoy.

If we want to make sure future generations of Shriners and their families are able to enjoy the brotherhood and camaraderie that we are so fortunate to experience, we must take on new and creative endeavors. Over the coming years, our Shrine has a lot of work to do. My challenge to you is to take all of the “You know what you oughta do‌â€? ideas, suggestions and advice and LPSOHPHQW D SODQ RI DFWLRQ )LUVW \RXU LGHD PXVW KDYH D UHDVRQ RU D JRDO )ROORZHG E\ D SODQ RI DFWLRQ VXFK DV who do we need to accomplish this goal and is it going to FRVW PRQH\ DQG KRZ PXFK 'RHV WKH EHQHÂżW RXWZHLJK the cost? An idea will remain and idea if no one is willing to put forth the effort to put pen to paper, make a plan of action and implement that plan.
Eric A. DeWalt “You know what you oughta do‌â€?
It’s hard to believe that we are almost at years end. What an amazing experience it has been from the vantage point of Oriental Guide! I have strengthened old friendships; made new, lasting relationships; and have been given the opportunity to really take part in the day to day operations of moving this great organization forward. There are so many different aspects to this wonderful organization and so many ideas on how to make our Shrine the best that it can be. Our philanthropy, our fraternity, our family, all must to work together to sustain and grow our beloved Shrine. I am often approached by fellow Shriners that start the conversation with, “You know what you oughta do‌â€? who then offer some great ideas, sage advice and helpful suggestions. “You know what you oughta do‌â€? is a common phrase around Shriners. “You know what you oughta do‌â€? is always delivered as a useful suggestion; words of wisdom; or creative ideas that are intended to improve the Shrine or whatever project one is working on.

As you know, we have been going through the audit process for 2014, and a great deal of effort has been expended to improve our internal processes so that future audits will be easier to process.
In my last article, I expressed hope that we might make it to December without drawing on the investments. Unhappily, our costs exceeded our income during the last month and we did have to draw from the investments. Nonetheless, we have done that later in the year than in years past, and that is a good thing.
Let me, again address the issue of hospital fund raising account management. Clearly, we all want to do everything we can to raise funds for the children. We also have a duty to make sure that the funds we raise are properly protected and expended. Please understand that when I and the Board perform the oversight function with which we are charged, it is not personally directed to anyone.

Given that I was presenting both the Treasurer’s Report and the Galveston Hospital Report, one comment was that the report was too long. A second comment was that I should leave the slides up longer and discuss them further, thereby lengthening the report. The third comment was that both reports together were about right. I always appreciate hearing what you want in the reports and how I can improve
As always, if you have questions or criticisms, please bring them directly to me. It is much easier to resolve these matters when we address them directly.

Nekodah Temple No. 44 was founded in 1928 to assist the Nobles of Alzafar Shrine in their charitable work. Our temple has sewn clothes, dolls, bags, and other items to send to the hospitals. We also donate school supplies, toys, and other needed items.

The Supreme Queen of all Daughters of the Nile visits us each year. This event took place on October 26 this year. successful event. Most importantly, we all bonded as a unit and as a large, extended family. As Colonel of the unit, I can’t tell you how proud I am of this amazing bunch of people; from the nobles themselves, to the wives, all the way down to the children and even friends of unit members who tossed in at this event and many more. We just recently enjoyed competing in the Chili Cook-off at Camp Alzafar where we took the trophy for Most Spirited. This group of men and their families go far beyond just making a showing. They always come to have a good time and raise awareness for our Temple and of Masonry. If you’re looking for somewhere to bring your family, have a good time, raise money for our hospitals, and meet a great bunch of Shriners, come to the Burning Sun unit where I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
BURNING SUN By: James Stimson The Burning Sun unit is a motorized go kart unit that prides itself on its togetherness between its members. Not only do we come together as Shriners, Masons, a Unit and as Brothers, we also come together as a family. This year, there has been multiple occasions where our unit shined. We are proud to say that we attended TSA, TSMPA, and Imperial session this year along with numerous parades, the annual circus, and many shrine functions. But with all that’s happened, it’s hard to pick just one memorable moment. Burning Sun took two trophies in Imperial, two trophies in TSA, and with our children and our spouses riding with our amazing members, we were successful in taking multiple trophies in TSMPA. This alone would be something to be proud of, but it can only take a back seat to how we came together on multiple occasions this year to show our proud and thriving unit. $W )LHVWD IRU H[DPSOH ZH KHOG RXU DQQXDO VQRZ FRQH ERRWK ZKLFK if you got to see it, is a production in itself. So in closing, I can honestly say that the most memorable time of this 2015 year has been the togetherness of this unit throughout the whole year. I’ve been able to meet and hang out with some great families because of this unit. Our togetherness goes beyond the shrine and shrine functions. We are a unit outside the Shrine. We pride ourselves making this unit a family from BBQ’s at each other’s houses, to hanging out at Camp Alzafar, to being there during trying times. One might say that this unit is a great example of what shrinedom is all about.
