Ask any bride, especially one who planned their wedding during a pandemic. That was my story, and from that, Paid to Bridesmaid was born.

Planning a wedding isn't for the faint of heart!

My name is Kisha Balderamos-O’Leary, and I’m the founder of Paid to Bridesmaid — a service designed to help the bride enjoy her special wedding day.

I remember the day I got engaged and how excited I was to finally plan my wedding! The first step was getting organized. So, I leaned on my life experiences as a former active duty Marine and mom of three. From those experiences, I was now an expert in working efficiently and anticipating needs ahead of time.

But nothing prepared me for planning a wedding in a pandemic. My now-husband and I were to marry in October 2020. Soon, we found ourselves with the impossible decision of either postponing the wedding or whittling down our guest list by over ninety percent.

We chose to move forward with our wedding, and what I learned was powerful. Whether I had a guest list of 110 or 8, I still needed help on the big day. I wanted to feel joy and love—not pressure and stress. To do that, I knew I needed help.

There were certain tasks that I needed to delegate so I could be fully present as a bride.

Those tasks became the foundation of Paid to Bridesmaid. Our main slogan is, “More time. More freedom. More fun.” We do this by providing packages that range from helping brides coordinate to being a full-on “wing girl” to the bride.

Getting married is such a special time between two people, their families, and their friends. It’s our greatest honor at Paid to Bridesmaid to come alongside the bride and help make her day truly magical.

If you have pets that enjoy spending time outdoors, it’s important to make sure your yard is a safe place for them to be. Consider these hazards that can negatively impact the well-being of your furry friends.

Poisonous Plants – Some common plants can be dangerous for animals, causing anything from mild oral irritations and upset stomachs to cardiovascular damage and even death. For example, these are some of the toxic plants the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) has identified as harmful for either cats or dogs: ·Aloe – can cause vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, anorexia and depression ·Azalea – can cause vomiting, diarrhea, hypersalivation, weakness, coma, cardiovascular collapse and death ·Burning bush – can cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and weakness, as well as heart rhythm abnormalities with large doses ·Caladium – can cause burning and irritation of the mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting and difficulty swallowing ·Daylilies – can cause kidney failure in cats ·Hibiscus – can cause vomiting, diarrhea, nausea and anorexia

Mulch and Compost – The decomposing elements that make compost good can be bad for pets, according to the National Garden Society. Keep compost in a secure container or fenced off area so pets can’t get to it. Cocoa mulch can be a particular problem for dogs. A byproduct of chocolate production, cocoa mulch can cause digestive problems and even seizures in dogs. Shredded pine or cedar mulch is a safer choice.

Fertilizer and Insecticides – The chemicals used to get rid of pests or make your lawn lush can be toxic to pets. Some of the most dangerous pesticides include snail bait with metaldehyde, fly bait with methomyl, systemic insecticides with disyston or disulfoton, mole or gopher bait with zinc phosphide and most forms of rat poison, according to the ASPCA. Follow all instructions carefully, and store pesticides and fertilizers in a secure area out of the reach of animals.

Fleas and Ticks – In addition to using appropriate flea and tick prevention methods such as collars and sprays, make sure your yard isn’t a welcoming environment for these pests.

Keep the lawn trimmed and remove brush and detritus, where fleas and ticks often lurk. Fleas can cause hair loss, scabs, excessive scratching, tapeworms and anemia. Ticks can do all of that, plus bring you and your family in contact with diseases like Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease.

Ready to Refinance?

HOW TO INCREASE YOUR CREDIT SCORE

Credit Utilization How you charge and pay off your credit cards impacts your FICO score, so you want to keep your accounts open.

Avoid having accounts closed by making small purchases and pay the balance down to a small amount such as $10 so there is reporting to the credit bureaus.

There are different types of credit, and all impact your FICO score differently. You need a good mixture of credit in your credit profile. Credit consists of installments, mortgages, education loans, recreational vehicles, revolving debt, etc. It is important to pay all debts on time.

Credit Card Balances

Keep Accounts Open

Keep all credit card balances under 30% of the credit limit. Do not go over the limit or max out your cards.

This will impact your score dramatically in either direction.

Staying under the 30% threshold will ensure you keep your FICO score higher.

Do not close your credit card accounts. To keep creditors from closing accounts, make sure you are utilizing your revolving accounts on a monthly basis. This may be something as simple as setting p a recurring payment each month, then paying it off in full.

Revolving Debt

Credit Reports

Put all revolving debts on auto payment in order to avoid late payments, which leads to excess fees and dings on your credit report. Revolving debt includes credit cards, personal lines of credit and home equity lines of credit.

Check your credit reports at least once a year to ensure you have not been a victim of fraud or erroneous reporting on your credit. You are entitled to one free credit report a year from each of the three major reporting agencies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

DECLUTTER AND ORGANIZE YOUR HOME WITH ORGANIZING BY BRITTANY

As the saying goes, “If you love what you do, you never work a day in y life.” That is certainly the case for Brittany Rodriguez, owner and your operator of Organizing by Brittany. ope As far back as Brittany can remember, she has always loved organizing her home. Whether it was her garage or one of her five children’s bedrooms, Brittany enjoys creating beautiful, functional spaces.

A few years before starting her own business, Brittany helped her husband at his company. Between that and raising their children, Brittany’s plate was full.

As fulfilling as her life was, Brittany wanted something more. She longed to contribute in a way that was uniquely her.

One day, she was talking with a friend about it. Her friend asked her, “What would you enjoy doing so much that you’d do it even if you didn’t get paid?”

Brittany instantly knew. She would turn her love of organizing into a business.

So, in December 2021, she made a post on “The Real Housewives of Providence Village” Facebook Page. In the post, she offered to organize pantries for housewives in the neighborhood. What happened surprised her. She quickly booked out, and from there, Organizing

by Brittany was born.

Brittany has since expanded her services to include all rooms within a home. Brittany shares, "Organizing is seeing a problem and fixing it in an organized format.” Before she ever starts to organize, Brittany first meets with the client to talk through their problem areas and goals. She walks through the space and gets a feel for what the client wants to achieve.

She also understands that part of decluttering and organizing may mean letting go of possessions. She knows this can be tough for her clients. So, she l

leans on unique tools and strategies to help her clients make the best decisions for their homes. The result is a clean and clear space her clients love.

The most rewarding part of what Brittany does is bringing function to rooms and relief to her clients. Brittany shared a specific experience that was especially meaningful to her. She was called in to help a widow whose husband had recently passed away. Brittany helped the woman redo her children’s bedrooms. For Brittany, the project was more than reorganizing a space. She also helped to bring comfort and peace during such a difficult time.

While organization comes more naturally to some people, once you get systems set in place, it's just maintenance and routines from there! One trick I use is to have my clients set an alarm on their phone for certain maintenance activities to help them remember!

As a mom of five, Brittany loves the flexibility of owning her own company.

She’s able to schedule her clients’ projects around her children’s homeschooling and their family’s activities. For Brittany, professional organizing is more than just a way to earn a living. It’s helped to breathe life back into her spirit and give her a purpose that’s uniquely hers.

While she’s traveled throughout Texas to organize homes, Brittany loves focusing on spaces within Providence Village. She has seen this community evolve greatly over the 11 years she and her family have lived here. As much as the area has developed, Brittany loves the downhome feel. For her, Providence Village is more than just a neighborhood.

It’s a community – one she loves to live in and one she loves to serve.

“There are tigers in apartments in New York City. There are lions in homes in Florida and right here in Denton County.”

Bailey and Barnaby, two 500-pound black bears, always make it to the dinner table on time. That table is at the edge of their 7,000 square foot home, built at the Sharkarosa Wildlife Ranch in Pilot Point, Texas. Every afternoon, the bears lumber up to the concrete picnic table, plop their behinds on a chair and wait for Scott Edwards, Sharkarosa owner, to serve their feast of mostly fruits and vegetables. This routine mealtime usually draws a crowd at the 126-acre ranch, which is also home to about 170 other rescued exotic animals. ....

Becoming a modern-day Dr. Doolittle wasn’t something Edwards had envisioned for himself.

At one point in his career, he made millions in the construction business. Those days are over.

Every dollar now goes back into Sharkarosa, which hosts free-of-charge programs for specialneeds children, kids fighting illnesses and charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project. ....

Although most people are unfamiliar with exotic pets, Edwards notes that “There are tigers in apartments in New York City. There are lions in. homes in Florida, and right here in Denton County. A lot of these animals are illegally taken from the wild or irresponsibly purchased for monetary gain.”

The latter is how Barnaby and Bailey ended up at Sharkarosa. Twelve years ago, the bears were cute cubs that could fit together in one small carrier. The owners made money by taking them to fairs, festivals and shopping malls for photo opportunities. ....

After authorities discovered that the bears were brought illegally into Texas, “they were literally kicking the door in as the owners were running out the back with the bears,” Edwards says.

Edwards then got a call from the owners, asking if he wanted the animals. ....

“What they’re really saying is, ‘We’re going to kill them if you don’t,’” he says. “We’re licensed, so we took the bears to rehabilitate them and try to find them a home.” ....

One sanctuary was interested; the owner said he’d take them off Edwards’ hands for a donation of $5,000 apiece. ....

“Me being smart, I thought, ‘For $10,000, I’ll build my own exhibit,’” Edwards says with a chuckle. “A year later and $70,000 later, I had an exhibit.” ....

When he got Barnaby and Bailey, they could barely walk due to neglect and confinement in cages. As their health improved, they began climbing trees and following Edwards around the property. ....

“We spent so much time with them that we did bond with them,” he says, but adds that he’s not fooling himself into thinking they could never hurt him. “There’s no such thing as a tame wild animal, only a trained wild animal. There’s absolutely no way I’m not afraid to walk in the cage with a lion or a bear. But knowledge is power, and I know what to look for.” ....

While it’s always best to return such animals to the wild," explains Kirk Sissney, retired Denton County Sheriff Deputy, animal crime division, "it wasn’t possible for Barnaby and Bailey because they’d already been socialized.

“Here, they have no parasites, no sickness, no injury, and they don’t have to go more than five steps for something to eat,” he adds. “There were two courses of action: Euthanize them or keep them. I think they’ve got a pretty good life.”

Annual Wellness Exams Are For Everyone!

Annual Wellness exams, commonly referred to as physical exams, constitute the core of a health maintenance culture. The exams are usually covered by most insurance plans including deductible plans for all ages.

During an annual wellness exam, the focus is on preventative health and screening for common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart, kidney, liver disease, anemia, and some cancers including lung, breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers which are among the top 5 most common cancers in the US. (NCI, 2022).

Patients are also screened for mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety and other psychosocial needs. Vaccination status for common illnesses such as flu, COVID, tetanus, and Hepatitis B are also reviewed, and shots are administered if needed. Immunizations constitute an important component of preventative health and are therefore covered by most insurance plans.

Advance Care Planning is also discussed during these visits, especially for the elderly and chronically ill. Everyone needs to have an Annual Wellness exam yearly regardless of their health status and these exams go a long way in early detection.
