Do I need Estate Planning?

How many times have we spent weeks or months planning a vacation or some other big event? Guilty here!! We put lots of thought and time into things that are fun, but what about things that are more important long term? Although it is not quite as fun as planning a vacation, estate planning is extremely important not only for your wishes to come true, but for your loved ones or heirs as well. Estate planning is often thought of as just for the “rich,” but estate planning is for people with all levels of assets! Without a plan in place, it could have a long lasting and even costly impact for your heirs. Bene ciaries are one of the easiest things to elect to ensure certain assets pass directly to whom you desire. It is always a good idea to update them, due to a marriage, divorce, children, etc., and check to make sure everything is going to the correct heir you are wishing it to be passed to. If you have children, especially minors or children with special needs, or other dependents it is also a crucial part of estate planning in choosing their guardians and potentially leaving nancial help for those guardians for the bene t of the children.

Another huge part of the planning process is avoiding tax burdens when passing assets to heirs. is can be a deep topic and we recommend looking to a nancial professional for help. Planning and knowing what to do can save your loved ones or bene ciaries money instead of giving it away to Uncle Sam. Finally, we have all heard the terrible stories about families ghting over who gets what when it comes to a person passing and leaving property or money to their surviving family members. ese disagreements can last a long time and become very expensive, draining the wealth you leave behind. Stopping the ght before it even begins is just another great reason to have an estate plan in place. You can choose who you want to control the nances while you are incapacitated, and as well as after you pass. After you pass you can set out a clear and concise plan of who gets what and when. You work hard to build the life you desire and enjoy! Time to plan for the future and beyond!
