MARQUIS JOURNEYS CHARLIE AND KATHY

NEW SMILES, TOGETHER

After years of dealing with broken teeth and pain, a couple both chose to restore their smiles and their confidence to be active again.

Kathy Wilkerson was struggling with her self-confidence due to gaps in her smile where teeth had fallen out. “I felt old with my teeth missing,” explains Kathy, who was an administrator in health care before retirement. Her position required a lot of interaction with patients and doctors every day.

When her teeth started to fail her, it affected her job. She could no longer address people with confidence.

Kathy and her husband Charlie also love to travel. But, with the missing teeth, Kathy didn’t want to be seen. She didn’t want to travel. She just wanted to hide.

Like many people, Kathy was a little fearful about going to the dentist. However, after seeing a Facebook advertisement for The Marquis Center, Kathy decided it was time to regain her life.

“We know that a lot of patients have dental phobia,” explains Dr. Andrew Mueller. “We do everything possible to make the environment as welcoming as possible.”

To make the dental implant process calm and relaxing, almost all procedures at The Marquis Center are done under appropriate sedation.

After an informative consultation with our doctors, Kathy decided to take the plunge and get a "double": implants and teeth replacement on both the top and bottom of her smile. The restoration procedure results have been life-changing for Kathy.

“With the new teeth, I feel younger...I don’t look like I’m in my 60’s anymore.”

Charlie and Kathy before The Marquis Procedure “With the new teeth, I feel younger,” says Kathy with pride. She was so inspired by her new smile that she added a new hairstyle to go with it. “I don’t look like I’m in my 60’s anymore.”

In fact, the teeth replacement procedure was such a positive experience, Kathy’s husband Charlie decided to see what The Marquis Center could do for him.

As a young man in the Army, Charlie had a surgical procedure on his mouth. This osteotomy made Charlie’s teeth susceptible to damage later on. Like Kathy, Charlie longed to have a confident smile again.

After seeing how much The Marquis Procedure helped his wife, Charlie had a full arch replacement done for his top teeth. “It’s worth it,” says Kathy of The Marquis Procedure that dramatically improved the lives of her and her husband. “We are very active now. Having teeth makes you want to go out more. Now I can smile at people and eat food."

“My husband loved me without teeth, but he loves me better with them,” laughs Kathy.

“At first, we were worried about the cost and the time, but we are so happy we did this. It was well worth it.” reflects Kathy.

When it comes to having a smile that is customized for you, The Marquis Center is where the magic happens.

RESTORE YOUR HEALTH

Poor mouth health can impact your whole body and put you at risk for serious health problems.

Cardiovascular disease is a common risk for those with periodontal disease or gum disease. Bacteria that is present in gum disease can travel through your arteries, building up plaque and hardening. This can lead to blood flow problems and heart blockage.

Gum disease can also lead to higherthan-normal blood sugar levels, putting a person at a greater risk for diabetes. Teeth that hurt while eating can also contribute to a diet that lacks nutrients, putting one at further risk for diabetes.

Other avoidable risks that can be caused by poor oral health includes respiratory infections, kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, and more.

If your gums are inflamed or you're having trouble eating due to pain, it's important you see a dental professional. The Marquis Center treats patients every day whose health previously declined due to gum disease or other dental issues.
