CHECK YOUR TICKETS! $17.75 Million Jackpot-Winning Texas Lottery Ticket Sold In Pearland The Texas Lottery reports a $17.75 million jackpot-winning ticket from Wednesday night’s Lotto Texas drawing was sold just outside of Houston.

The winning ticket matched all six of the six winning numbers for the June 1 drawing, 4, 12, 13, 2, 39 and 54. That ticket was sold at Murphy USA on Dixie Farm Road in Pearland; in case you’re wondering, it was a Quick Pick. The lottery says, “Tickets must be claimed no later than 180 days after the draw date.”

The Texas Lottery said that the cash value option was selected at the time of purchase and the claimant will receive over $11.9 million before taxes. There were also nine secondary prize winners who matched five of the six winning numbers to win over $2,000 each; four of those winners actually chose the Extra! option to net over $12,000 in winnings.

Fort Worth, San Antonio Zoos Share ‘Mysterious' Photos After Amarillo Sighting Do you remember the creepy spotting in Amarillo that sent social media into a frenzy? On May 21, the Amarillo Zoo surveillance cameras captured footage of a peculiar figure outside its gates. Unsure of what it was or where it came from, the zoo took to social media to help crack the case. The silhouette resembled several things but, to date, remains unidentified.

Well, it turns out that the world of unidentified objects is getting a little bigger as other zoos in Texas join in on the fun. The San Antonio Zoo shared a remarkably similar photograph showing a "mysterious creature" they'd like help identifying. And it doesn't stop there. In another similar scene, there was a suspicious - or debatably adorable - creature spotted in North Texas at the Fort Worth Zoo. 6

EASY WATERMELON POPSICLES Ingredients

Instructions

1 pound watermelon

Cut the watermelon into small chunks

•

2 tablespoons sugar

(discarding the rind), and put them

•

2 tablespoons lime juice

in a blender with the sugar and lime juice. Process until smooth, adding enough water (or fruit juice) so that the mixture liquefies. Pour into popsicle molds, and freeze.

Balsamic Watermelon Chicken Salad Recipe from Pinch Of Yum

Ingredients •

1 cup balsamic vinegar

•

1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts 3 teaspoons all purpose seasoning 1 tablespoons olive oil 4 cups baby spinach or greens

2 cups cubed watermelon

•

1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles or feta 1/4 cup sliced or crushed almonds

•

Instructions 1.

Pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 1520 minutes until the balsamic vinegar is significantly reduced and starting to become syrupy.

2. Meanwhile, turn a grill or nonstick skillet to high heat. Sprinkle the chicken with the seasoning on both sides and drizzle with the olive oil. Transfer to the hot grill and cook until no longer pink on the inside and nicely browned on the outside. Let rest for 5 minutes; cut into small cubes.

3. Layer the spinach with the chicken, watermelon, blue cheese, almonds, and drizzle with the balsamic reduction to taste. Top with additional olive oil if desired.

SURVIVING THE END OF SUMMER WITH “BORED” KIDS We all think summer sounds fantastic until boom, it’s here. The excitement goes down quite frankly because Kids all day long and let’s be real this is Texas and it’s HOT. But, the truth is, summer is quick, and I do want to enjoy it (as much as one can). June was such a crazy month full of summer camps and such … Now kids are getting to the “I’m Bored” stage of summer. Trying to find a balance between all day screen time and surviving this Texas heat can be tricky but I'm here to help.

So, I’ve come up with some tips to survive the rest of the summer with your kids.

Now this list isn’t here to make you feel guilty for not planning the perfect summer for your kids, but it’s to help you enjoy it.

HAVE PAJAMA DAYS WITH ZERO GUILT This is key to enjoying summer. You need to de-stress. The kids need to de-stress. The school year will be here before you know it. The routines and early bedtime and homework stresses will come barreling back to you with a vengeance. Enjoy these last few weeks by having pajama days. Read books, watch movies and just be a sloth creature. But the key is to feel ZERO guilt.

You’re re-charging for what’s to come in the fall.

MAKE HOMEMADE ICE CREAM AND POPSICLES This one has multiple benefits which is an A+ in my book. Cold, sweet treat and the educational benefits of children cooking. Improves literacy & scientific understanding as children learn to read the recipe before preparing it, they develop reading comprehension. Improves math & science skills, when you cook you are constantly learning about fractions and equivalents. Having the kids help in the kitchen also teaches them about food and healthy eating. When children are responsible for their own cooking or cooking with you, they will learn how to be patient. (Recipes on Page 31)

LEMONADE STAND While we’re on the path of activities having multiple benefits this is another great idea. A lemonade stand is an excellent way for kids to learn about money and marketing. They will need to figure out how much it costs to make the lemonade and how much to charge for it. This is also a perfect opportunity to teach them about customer service and interacting with people. Learning how to budget their money and resources along with marketing their new business and gaining confidence as an entrepreneur. Who knows, you may be sparking the next Mark Cuban.

COME PLAY BINGO Golden Bingo Family has 29 bingo halls all across Texas, playing Bingo in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and late night. (Check the schedule to find a hall that works best for your schedule pg. 44) Only requirement is that the child is over 5 years old and is playing Bingo. The kiddos will like daubing the paper in fun colored daubers (you could even stop by our Bingo Pro Shop - San Antonio only p. 12 and find some really fun themed daubers) or using our computers as they resemble their tablets at home.

GET TO DOODLING Remember how much fun you used to have as a kid by just doodling? Maybe you blocked it out from your life after getting in trouble at school, I know I can’t be the only one. If you’ve never really allowed yourself to sit outside and “be one with nature” give yourself five minutes, set a timer. It doesn’t have to be expensive – get a journal and a pencil. Can’t draw your way out of a paper bag? Just sketch whatever comes to mind.

YOU’VE GOT A FRIEND IN ME...

Ok, well maybe not me personally but strike up a conversation with your bingo neighbor. Have you noticed them often? Maybe you’ve never seen them before at bingo. What a great time to get to know your fellow bingo friends. This is a fantastic skill that you may have forgotten how to do due to COVID and isolation. Who knows, maybe that person is your new best friend.

SOMETIMES YOU JUST MUST DANCE IT OUT Life can be hard. It’s important for you not to take yourself too seriously. When is the last time that you just dropped everything and danced it out? Cumbia blaring, ready to go? Maybe you’re a disco queen. Put on your favorite tune and dance the ick away. If you’re not able to be mobile, consider using your arms or whatever body part is mobile.

NEW San Antonio Restaurants That Have Opened This Year MAPLE BISCUIT COMPANY The Tennessee-based chain opened its first of three San Antonio restaurants at the Quarry Village on March 14.

Since then, a second location at 10650 Culebra Road opened on April 9. Another Maple Street Biscuit Co. is planned for 17202 Bulverde Road.

DIMASSI'S MEDITERRANEAN BUFFET The family-owned chain of Mediterranean buffets opened in Houston in 1992 and has since grown a Texas-sized footprint. San Antonio is now home to two Dimassi's locations, at 111 S.W. Loop 410 and 12858 West Interstate 10 Frontage Road, which opened in March.
