We salute the Mother of Global United Fellowship, Mother Mattie Taylor, whose love for His Grace, Bishop Neil C. Ellis and the entire Fellowship was immeasurable. A mighty woman of God with great faith, she served the Fellowship faithfully, traveling to every event, with a steadfast support, until she was no longer able to do so.

It is certainly an understatement but we will surely miss the loving presence of Mother Taylor, who has gone on to receive her great and just reward.

Presiding Bishop MY BELOVED BROTHERS AND SISTERS, On behalf of the leadership of our Fellowship, I am so excited to welcome each of you to the 6th annual “Gathering” for our Global United Fellowship family.

This is year number 6 and while we are excited we are yet humbled that so many of you have traveled from various parts of The United States and other countries around the globe to join us here on beautiful Paradise Island, The Bahamas. Without a doubt, you can expect this to be a transformative and fulfilling week.

What a glorious season it has been for our Fellowship over these past months! We’ve been the beneficiaries of God’s grace and favor all year long. He has shown Himself strong on our behalf. Over the past year, we have experienced unprecedented growth and positive change; some of which you’ll hear about during the course of the week.

I am extremely pleased to report that since last year’s Gathering, more than 300 new churches have willingly joined our fellowship. They join the hundreds who are already a part of our global family. We are now connected across some 42 countries around the globe.

There is no doubt that we have been called upon to lay the foundation for a kingdom vehicle through which generations to come, will have the tools needed to bring the body of Christ into the fullness of kingdom building.

Our Fellowship is constantly evolving and each year we seek to find creative ways to equip and empower the saints to do the work of ministry effectively and live victoriously. I encourage you therefore, to pay close attention to the printed and online schedules and participate in as many of these life-changing sessions as possible this week.

We have planned, prayed, and partnered with The Holy Spirit to propose what we truly believe will be a transformative week. The table is now spread; we bid you come, dine, and hopefully, leave this “spiritual buffet” full, more nourished and equipped to fulfill your global assignments.

prime minister commonwealth of the bahamas I am very pleased to extend my warmest greetings to Presiding Bishop, Neil C. Ellis, And members of the Executive Council of Global United Fellowship.

I welcome most warmly, Global United Fellowship, a Christian fellowship that embraces Churches, Ministries, Fellowships and Pastors who knowledge, accept and submit to Jesus Christ, to our beautiful shores as you convene your 6th Annual Global Meeting “The Gathering”, at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island, which I understand is the first to be held outside continental United States.

Global United Fellowship, which was established in November 2013, has enjoyed a remarkable history. I am advised that in five and a half years, it’s membership has grown from 41 churches to 1,400 in some 42 countries around the world and it continues to experience phenomenal growth.

I have noted that Global United Fellowship’s primary focus is empowering and perfecting the saints through Biblical Training, Mentoring, Disciplining and Personal and Ministry Development, among others, which has undoubtedly contributed to the growth and success of your organization.

I have also noted that Global United Fellowship has the distinction of being the first religious organization to make a presentation to the United Nations.

Global United Fellowship must be commended for its partnership with Compassion International, an organization dedicated to rescuing children from poverty. It is especially pleasing to note that to date, more than 5,000 children have been impacted.

It is my sincere hope that “The Gathering” achieve the success envisaged, as I see from your schedule of events that you have an exciting program with a formidable list of speakers and presenters.

For those traveling to The Bahamas to attend the 6th Annual Global Meeting, I do hope that your stay with us is a most enjoyable one.

Leader of opposition House of assembly | commonwealth of the bahamas “The Gathering 2019” My Dear Brothers and Sisters of Global United Fellowship (GUF): I am very pleased to greet you in the name of the Jesus Christ, whom I freely confess as Lord and Saviour of my life, on the occasion of the Sixth Annual Global Meeting in New Providence.

Congratulations! Your organisation must be commended for making toiling in the Vineyard seem like easy work. Your mission ensures that the walk with Christ establishes “real, authentic, and lasting relationships” tearing down barriers and building souls.

The radical action of tearing down barriers was the catalyst for the creation of the GUF. Bishop Neil Ellis, one of The Bahamas’ sons, is a born leader, gifted with the ability to cultivate leaders. Identifying qualities, which I believe are most peculiar to himself, he has planted the world over, men and women who are called under his mentorship. These protégés invariably have strong leadership abilities and are able to command authority and respect.

As you convene this Gathering 2019, I encourage you to continue your model of excellence. Your unselfish contribution to the preservation and promotion of the people of The Bahamas and the people of 1,400 churches in 42 countries is a remarkable achievement in an inordinately short time.

I encourage all of you to fully participate in service of the Kingdom, carrying the banner of Jesus Christ to the world.

Press on until the message of Christ has become so firmly established that you will not fail to receive one blessing (of 2 Cor 1:67). Continue to push for social justice, truth, and in service to the poor.

WHAT WE BELIEVE We believe that: • God is the Creator of all that exists and the Body of Christ is the vehicle that God uses for impacting the world.

GUF will not allow any Name, Denomination, Doctrine, Tradition, Socio-economic or Cultural composition, to separate or prevent us from experiencing the authentic fellowship of the Saints of the Living God. Our mission is to foster biblical Unity among Christian Believers as one Body in Christ.

Furthermore, we will focus on the Cultivation of Spiritual gifts rather than on Doctrines and Theological Positions.

GUF firmly believes that there is more that “Unites Us” than that which “divides us”.

OUR COMMITMENT GUF as a Christian Fellowship and organism commits to: Embracing both the Eternal Transforming Power of Calvary and the Supernatural Power of Pentecost.

Demonstrating the principles of Holiness, Miracles and Revelation as exemplified specifically in the book of Acts and throughout the Scripture.

The inclusion of All baptized Christian believers who subscribe to the Gifts and Graces as well as submit to the Power and the Leading of the Holy Spirit in all aspects of their private and public lives.

Equipping and Empowering the Saints to do the Work of Ministry so as to experience Personal Victorious Living.

Strengthening the Body of Christ, forging Christian relationships, promoting Unity, exemplifying Integrity while building the Kingdom of God. Providing Opportunities for ministry as well as preparing and releasing the gifted among the body in order to be a greater blessing and support to the entire body of Christ.

Father William Murphy, Sr.

You may know his grandson, William Murphy III, as one of the most popular Gospel psalmists and young pastors of this generation, but Father William Murphy, Sr., is a no holds barred preacher of the Gospel with almost seven decades in ministry, and he pulls no punches as it pertains to millennial worship, church order and the Bible the way he sees it.

His candor is infectious and love for the church is honorable.

Father Knows Best

As told to Hasan James As the Father of Global United Fellowship, what are you praying for regarding the organization over the next couple of years?

That’s a broad question. The Apostle Paul, said, “My hearts desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.” I was reading American Providential History and I discovered how much of the word of God was used to put that piece of literature together, and how the word of God was used to shape even the constitution as it is laced in biblical principles.

Global United Fellowship is an instrument in the hand of God for transformation, and that it will be involved in shaping and developing the culture in which we live. GUF is in the hand of God as an instrument to bring about an awakening to America and the rest of the world that has turned their back on God. I believe that this fellowship is at the cutting edge to bring about revolution and revival. When that happens, we will see salvation first and ultimately experience transformation.

The divorce rate in America is between 40% and 50% and the divorce rate in the church specifically is at a long time high. You have been in ministry for as long as you have been married.

After over 62 years of marriage, what is the key to a successful marriage, while still maintaining a thriving ministry?

I’ve been married for 70 years, man, that’s a long time Hall. I’m in my 68th year of ministry and my 67th year of pastoring, I started pastoring one year after I accepted my call and I must say that at the time I was not aware of the sacredness of marriage. When I saw “Momma” (his wife), I just saw her as a fine little girl. I wasn’t interested in the way she prayed, I was into how she could dance and man could she could tear up a dance floor! I was interested in how she looked and I didn’t look at anything spiritual because we just didn’t know. What has sustained us has been divine and God Himself intervened in our marriage. What I’ve learned is beauty will pass away. The reason the divorce rate is so high is because those who got married never consulted with God, so many leaders are to blame because counseling sessions are not authentic and transparent. For instance, I still refuse to marry unequally yoked people. If one attends church and the other does not or if one is saved and the other is not, I won’t do it man! We have to stand for something or the family will continue to be lost. Marriage is of God, only God can sustain it and it takes God and God alone to do it! I am happy about the new abortion law, I believe you can’t take what you didn’t give.

What are your thoughts on the “New Age Church?” Young Bishops, Women Bishops, Dress code?

The church has been revolutionized by millennials, but I am a fundamentalist and I believe in absolutes if you’re gonna be a church. For instance, salvation is a fundamental absolute and so is baptism, there’s no way around it. I believe in the King James version of the Bible. I’ve studied all versions of the bible and I find King James to be the most authentic.

I believe Global United Fellowship is scriptural and we teach and practice one way to salvation and that’s through God’s only begotten son, Jesus Christ. I believe in women in ministry, Mary Magdalene and Dorcas were important and necessary for ministry. Women like Phoebe and Lystra were vital to Kingdom work! I do, however, have some reservations about the different roles of women in the church. I’ve ordained women, I’ve installed them as pastors and I’m supportive but I believe the scriptures teaches us, it’s not good that the women have authority over us! My personal thought is while I am supportive, I wouldn’t want to have a woman as my pastor, and that’s just my personal opinion and preference. As it relates to the dress code,

I believe we should dress up to come to church and we should wear our best! You shouldn’t come to the Lord’s house and wear what you’ve worn all week!

Over the past decade, the city of Detroit was on a downward spiral. Has the city bounced back and how has Greater Ebenezer contributed to the revitalization of the city?

Detroit went through a major recession.

The auto industry crashed and the economy collapsed, leaving Detroit at the mercy of the federal government for a federal bailout. The church suffered the most severely because the first place people stop giving is to the church.

Church people strayed away and stopped participating in all church functions and activities. It’s not what it use to be, when people would run to church for healing and hope. Now, they run away from church as if the church no longer has what they need. The city of Detroit is slowly but surely bouncing back and the church I pastor was taught how to survive during a recession and not become depressed as a result of it. Greater Ebenezer is averaging three to eight new people joining every Sunday as a result of sound biblical teaching and doctrine. I see the church taking its rightful place again in our community.

What does Bishop Neil C. Ellis mean to you?

I met him when we would do what was called the Detroit and Bahamas exchange, it was always the 4th Sunday in April of every year. It was Dr. Grace Cobb and Dr. Sanders who asked me to give this young man a chance and I was blown away by his ability to preach and the anointing on his life. I told my church at that time, one day we will be glad to get him, because he’s gonna be in such demand. I met good people during that time including Bishop Helen McPhee. Every year I would bring this young man to Detroit and I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow. He’s unique because of how relational he is with people and he’s so disciplined as it relates to his time with God and how he treats people! Whenever he is away with God you can be guaranteed he’s coming back with some revelation. I am so excited to be a part of Global United Fellowship under his leadership. When he left Full Gospel and started this fellowship, there was no hesitation of knowing I needed to be a part of this movement. I think Bishop Neil C. Ellis is tremendous as a person and as a leader.

Bishop Craig Johnson Outside of ministry, you’ve previously held positions in the social services sector. Do you find that spirituality is the missing component as it pertains to most youth and young adults who are in the system?

BISHOP JOHNSON IS THE VISIONARY OF CATHEDRAL OF PRAISE INTERNATIONAL MINISTRIES. COPIM WAS ORGANIZED IN APRIL OF 1995 WITH 17 MEMBERS AND IN 24 YEARS, THE MEMBERSHIP HAS GROWN TO OVER 3,500. HE IS AN INTRICATE PART OF GLOBAL UNITED FELLOWSHIP AND IS EXCITED ABOUT ITS GROWTH. As the current Senior Metropolitan Bishop of America, Central America, and The Philippines, what does your role entail and what are your plans for expansion over the next four years?

In my role as Senior Metropolitan Bishop, I oversee Field Operations for the Fellowship.

My primary function is to assure that the vision and directives of the Presiding Bishop are communicated and adhered to by those who have jurisdictional oversight. While GUF is not a denomination, we are a Fellowship with structure. To maintain order and progress, we MUST “walk together” (Amos 3:3). My assignment is to insure that we are walking in the direction of our leader.

Over the next four years, we would like to bring consistency to what Global United Fellowship does around the world. This will require the implementation of systems and the creation of culture – better known as “The Global Way”. Just as with any other franchise, we want people to experience “the flavor” of GUF regardless of where they are when they encounter us. Although Global is doing well, we are still young. My goal is to make should we raise up leaders who operate and know our system and culture.

I believe that every individual is made in the image of God. As such, you cannot gain self-awareness without becoming aware of God. When an individual has no values, goals, dreams, or aspirations, they are subject to drift into crime or lawlessness. A relationship with God brings about an awareness of potential and promise. The values of justice, proper respect and treatment of others are rooted in understanding who God is and how He has made us. With all of this in mind, spirituality is foundational to anyone’s development as an individual. Sadly, many that I’ve encountered in the system have never been properly introduced to Jesus. In the words of the song, “Jesus is the answer for the world today.”

Even after all of the success you have attained in ministry, do you still have dreams and aspirations?

I believe that when a person stops dreaming, they start dying! Those who know me best will tell you that I dream out loud. What am I dreaming in this season? I’ve now been in ministry for over 42 years and I started when I was 13 years old. I’m planning what I’m going to do in my “next life”. I believe that how you finish is just as important as how you start.

I want to implement a solid and successful succession plan at Cathedral of Praise and hand over leadership to another gifted individual who can build on the foundation that I have laid.

So at 65, I plan to leave the Pastorate and continue ministry in another capacity.

From a media standpoint, I have been apart of GUF from its inception. Each year the conference gets better and better and when you try to explain the experience to other people, it’s simply unexplainable! There are hundreds of conferences each and every year in Christendom. In your opinion, what makes Global United Fellowship and “The Gathering” so different from all of the other conferences across the globe?

The meetings of Global United Fellowship are more spirit led. Personality ALWAYS gets in the way of the Spirit. God will not share His glory with another. Our Presiding Bishop works hard to keep our meetings ChristCentered and when God moves, it’s hard to explain!

What do you know for sure?

What do I know for sure? I know that God is real. His presence, power, provisions, and protection have convinced me that He’s unpredictable and uncontrollable. God cannot lie and He never fails. God lives to exceed our requests and our expectations (Eph. 3:20). I trust in God! That’s what I know for sure!

Numbers 8:23–25 (NKJV) reads: Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “This is what pertains to the Levites: From twentyfive years old and above one may enter to perform service in the work of the tabernacle of meeting; and at the age of fifty years they must cease performing this work, and shall work no more. I don’t want to remain in ministry until people have to push me aside. I want to leave the same way I came – walking.

Bishop Carroll A. Baltimore Churches across America are closing down in record number. Why do you think this is and what’s the solution?

Bishop Baltimore, you have spent most of your life as a global ambassador for Christ. What are the differences between Christians here in America vs. places like South Africa, the Philippines, and other places where you’ve built ministries from the ground up?

In America, for so long, all we’ve known is freedom of religion. As the prophet Amos said, “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion.” The freedom to worship in peace is a gift from God. We have become slack and lost our zeal in so many areas of discipleship. In other parts of the world, religious freedom is not cut and clear. The hunger for the gospel is clear, and the thirst and knowledge for truth is great. You have people who will walk for miles to hear the gospel. In the Philippines, the fastest growing churches in my ministry are in war zones and where there is great persecution. In America, we are so relaxed that the weather keeps us home. In other countries, in spite of flooding, typhoons and other disasters, Christians gather to worship in water up to their knees. They believe they have to worship God no matter what. They constantly go out to reach and win the lost. It is a way of everyday life for them. They are on fire to build the Kingdom of God. For Americans, this is like an afterthought.

I believe that the current fabric and fiber of our churches is one of the reasons that there are so many church closings. Another reason is that people boast of going to church, but they are not interested in church life. Therefore, we are losing disciples who are workers fully engaged doing the ministry of Jesus Christ.

The continuous breaking apart of our families is another reason for church closings. For the past four or five decades, the families as we know them have gradually ceased to participate in the life of our churches. Our modern day families may not choose to attend church, although some have been raised in the church. Others attend, but will not work in the ministry. There are options to stream and give online which eliminates face to face fellowship. The negative side of social media is that it does not build personal relationships. We must be cautious at this point because data shows that if a person does not build new relationships within a 90 day period, they leave the fellowship. The churches believe in training for succession, for newness and relevancy in the church leadership and for the sustainability of church life. This cycle is repeated when marriages occur and babies are born. Although the young adults may live in other locations, their zeal and love for the ministry does not cease in their lifetime. These values follow them throughout their lives.

This organized and systematic biblical teaching continues in the market place. The schools, community leaders and government officials often request the church to teach classes on morals and values to children, teachers, police officers and in other secular venues.

I feel that one solution is to return to teaching and preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ.

There has been a steady decline in preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ; not topics of public interest or the latest breaking news, not a popular opinion, but preaching the gospel and making it relevant and applicable to our lives.

What does the name Neil Ellis mean to you?

The name of our Presiding Prelate, His Grace, Bishop Neil C. Ellis means a great deal to me.

He is an anointed transformational leader. He is one of the most personable, approachable and touchable leaders that we have today in ministry. Bishop Ellis has not lost the common touch. He takes the time to speak with you and he genuinely cares about you. Regardless of your situation, if you need counseling or whatever, he is there. Bishop Ellis doesn’t forget those in trouble. He believes in redemption and restoration for brothers and sisters instead of casting them aside. This is a rare quality. I praise God for his leadership.

What are your thoughts on the tremendous growth of Global United Fellowship in just six short years? What do you attribute that growth to?

I think that the tremendous growth of the GUF is due to the deep desire for those in ministry to see, feel and experience something different. The tremendous growth of the GUF speaks to the heart of our Presiding Prelate, His Grace, Bishop Neil C. Ellis, and his passion and vision for an ecumenical and united global fellowship. It’s the religious and ethnic cultural diversity within the GUF that is so incredible.

The relationship building and support system among the GUF members is like none other.

Additionally, the GUF is built on the strong emphasis of resurrecting the dying discipline of prayer. Focusing on family and life balance are key elements as well, along with the dynamic worship and profound transformational teaching and preaching. The GUF members have numerous opportunities to become equipped with life changing tools gleaned from business professionals that not only enhance them personally, but also empowers their spiritual lives for the Kingdom of God.

ELLIS. -H. JAMES You’re not only a bishop in the Lord’s Church, but you have your degree in psychology. Do you often find that many people in Christendom, specifically, deal with undiagnosed mental illness?

There are several levels of mental illness and I think people in the church shy away from the responsibilities of mental illness. The church considers it taboo from a demonic perspective.

As a church, we can deal with people with cancer and all sorts of physical ailments until we have to deal with one’s mental capacity and then we tend to assign it to a demonic presence. We’re living in an era where pastors are committing suicide in an alarming rate and they are literally suffering while serving. It’s the pressure of trying to cope with our communities and our conditions and it has served to create mental imbalance on many fronts.

To your point, we’ve witnessed many pastors either walk away from the assignment or commit suicide. How can these types of actions be addressed or avoided?

I think that in order to be a good leader it goes beyond their capabilities but more so to the area of capacity. And I think a lot of men and women are not capable of pastoring but capacity to manage loss is not there. We have to be able to both lead and manage loss.

Most recently we’ve seen an influx of people, especially millennials, not attending traditional church or even partaking in church online. What do you say to that?

I think that that convenience has trumped faithfulness and responsibility. I think it has its place because we’re such a visual society.

Everybody is on their phones. We can’t go to dinner, church or any venue where somebody is not looking down at their phone and that is a conversation that needs to be had. You can

literally do everything from your phone, you can give an offering and anything else from this small device, so the whole convenience of it makes it an open target for what is to come in the future. The bible says,“Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together, as the manner of some is” and I think we all need to realize that.

Talk to us a bit about your role as Apostolic Aide to the Presiding Bishop. What does that entail?

To fulfill some of the assignments that the presiding Bishop would have me to do as well as to attend to matters of the fellowship itself. My position is to also serve the general population and leadership of Global United Fellowship.

My function, perhaps more than anything, is to help create a network that’s valuable for the presiding Bishop.

Many people see you as a pastor and a bishop and they may not see you outside of that realm.

Talk a bit about James Woodson, the man. What are some things you like to do outside of the pulpit?

I’m a family man and I have been married to Mable for 26 years. I have four children and I spend a lot of time with my family. I’m an outdoors person who loves Fishing, Boating, Golfing and Hunting. When it comes to church, I could probably get into a lot of trouble when it came down to fishing and hunting.

AS EXECUTIVE SECRETARY OF GLOBAL UNITED FELLOWSHIP, DR. CARTER IS A MAN ON THE MOVE FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS, AND BEYOND. As told to Hasan James

Dr. Carter, you are a third generation pastor in one of the most crime-ridden cities in America, Baltimore. How has your ministry helped change that narrative over the past few decades since being there?

Since we moved into the current location in 1990, we’ve seen a considerable amount of growth. We have the Urban Center for Urban Families right across the street, which is a brand new million dollar facility. In fact, President Obama visited the facility during his administration. We’ve seen Coppin State University expand. We’ve seen Mondawmin Mall get totally renovated. One of the other major things that we have done specifically was purchase what was once the Cloverland Dairy

Let’s talk a bit about your role as Executive Secretary in the sixth year of Global United Fellowship.

I was initially attracted to Global United Fellowship through my friend Rudolph Mckissick. We’re very close friends and he suggested that I at least come for the first year and I must admit, I was just taken back by the worship. The worship was very enticing from me and having grown up as a PK, I’ve been to a number of conventions and conferences due to my upbringing, but Global United Fellowship did not have a sense of politics. There are some conventions that I’m still a member of, you don’t get a sense that worship is a priority, you don’t get a sense that mission work is a priority. The services run smooth and nobody is making speeches to sway you one way or another.

During that first year when I witnessed 1,000 people at a 5:30 AM prayer service, I knew this was something that I had to be apart of.

I met Bishop Ellis many years ago at the Baptist World Alliance in Seoul, Korea, so we’ve known one another for quite some time and he kept trying to get me to join the fellowship and I eventually joined. Bishop Ellis always had a fondness for my father who had passed away some years prior and at that time he kept pushing me to become a Bishop.The scripture says, “One must desire the office of Bishop” and I had no aspirations to become a Bishop to be quite honest with you, but he also asked if I would be open to the possibility of serving as a part of the Executive Council. So one thing led to another and he asked me if I was interested

in being Executive Secretary and obviously I said yes. I have made many new friends in the interim and have also enjoyed ministry on not just a national, but an international level through Global United Fellowship.

What do you think you would be doing if you were not a Pastor?

Before being called into ministry, my college preparation was really moving me towards journalism. I double majored in English Literature and Religious Studies because I went to a religious college and you pretty much had to take a number of credits for that subject anyway. But to be honest, I’d probably be blogging or something. I love words and I love to write, always have.

You’ve written several books and you’re also a songwriter. Talk to us a bit about your passion of songwriting and writing books.

The songwriting really comes from my love of the English language and personally I love all kinds of music, except for maybe hard rock or heavy metal. However, the songs I’ve written were just inspirational and the words and the melody just came to me at the same time. And because I have access to musicians, I am able to get them to put scores to melodies in my mind.

From there, my choir would sing the songs and ultimately record those same songs.

As it pertains to literary writing, both of my parents were educators so it’s in my blood and I don’t think I could have come of age without putting something in print. My first book was entitled “The Sacred Marriage”v, which is a book about the relationship a pastor has with his flock and it’s really kind of a “How To” piece on getting started in pastoral ministry, which was birthed out of my doctoral thesis. So once I kind of got that under my belt, it opened more opportunities to write other books.
