Harlingen Parks & Recreation rents out 6 pavilions throughout our parks. The rental area is the enclosed space that includes a covered pavilion, picnic tables, a barbecue pit, lights and electricity. Restrooms are open to the public, but located close to the pavilions. Reservations need to be made in person at our office (502 E. Tyler) . Kung-Fu

Martial Arts

Instructor: Jose Olivarez Kung Fu translates to “hard work”. Kung Fu is more of a fast pace external martial art. When training Kung Fu, the \ practitioner will gain strength, speed, agility, and earn hard work, self defense, and honor. Fee covers four (4) classes per month.

Kids Ninjutsu Instructor: Horacio Rodriguez “Rough Boy Ninjutsu” focuses on delivering the fastest way to learn Ninjutsu, while building your confidence. Ninjutsu is more than just a martial art; it is exercise, a weight loss plan, and one great adrenaline boost of energy. At the end of the class you will not only go home with a great workout, but with skills that may, one day, save your life. Students can wear jogging pants or shorts with a t-shirt. Kids Capoeira by South Texas Capoeira Instructor: Tyrone Phelipa Capoeira is a unique Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that combines dance, music, acrobatics, fighting techniques, history, culture and fuses it into one awesome package. Instructor: Jose Olivarez Line dancing; a sure way to get everyone of the dance floor at birthday parties, night clubs and get-togethers. Whether they are doing the Electric Slide, The Hustle or The Boot Scootin’ Boogie don’t be left out. If you have ever wanted to know how to do to dances like these then this class is for you. Join us for a fun, easy way to exercise and burn calories and then head off to your next party ready to show off your skills.

Baby Jazz Instructor: Lorri DeJesus This class will focus on the basic steps and terminology of both Jazz and Salsa. Lessons

Art: Creative Explorations Instructor: Oneida Trevino Let’s Create and Explore! Engage your child in creative and explorative forms of artwork. Students will experiment with different media, such as pencil, watercolor, India Ink, tempera paint, low-fire earthenware clay, and other media. All media experimentation will incorporate techniques such as painting, printmaking, ceramics and pottery making, and others. Students will have several opportunities throughout the school year to compete in local Art Competitions, and National Art Competitions. Students that attend a full season will have an additional opportunity to participate in an Annual Art Exhibit. style! Fee covers four (4) classes per month. Time

Chair Yoga

A central feature of Early Adventures is the participation of professionals who specialize in one of these areas: child development, nutrition, speech and language, play and movement, child health and parenting. Each week features one specialist who talks one-on-one with parents and discusses any concerns they may have.

Teens are invited to join the Teen Advisory Group and volunteer, contribute to programming, and create and take part in special events!

Downtown Harlingen Walking Tours Take a trip back in time on a free Downtown Harlingen walking tour. Guided tours depart from J&B’s Café, 204 E. Jackson, at 9 a.m. on most Saturdays, from November 10, 2018 through March 30, 2019. (No tours on the first Saturday of the month, which is Jackson Street Market Days.) The tours last about 90 minutes and include information on historic buildings, downtown businesses, murals, and more. Theater (acting) instructor: Robert angell Acting is more than memorizing lines and trying to avoid the furniture on stage. Sanford Meisner defines acting as “…living truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” Whether you have experience in acting or none at all, this class will use the ideas from Stanislavsky, Strasberg, and Meisner to help you develop acting skills and to experience “living truthfully” and doing what is real on stage. The class includes step by step instructional activities, scene work, lots of fun, and a performance at the end of April. Fee covers four (4) classes per month.
