W

elcome to Thingamajig’s 2018/19 Winter Season! This year, we want to give you new opportunities to connect with our shows beyond what you see on the stage through a series of articles and pages on our website – think historical context, conversations with directors and designers, and other peeks behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy this new addition to our audience experience. Almost every year since Thingamajig’s founding, we’ve presented several musicals as part of our Summer Season. We’re regionally recognized as a leading producer of musical theatre, and people often ask me if this will become a part of Thingamajig’s Winter Season as well. Actually, it was a happy accident that we ended up producing Irving Berlin’s WHITE CHRISTMAS in 2015. While it was a critical hit and well-attended, our budget was not prepared for “Blockbuster” priced productions outside the summer. After the past two summer gala successes and re-organizing the way our Winter Season is structured, we’re so proud to bring Pagosa Springs another Broadway musical LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL. In addition, we’re featuring a completely unique and fresh take on the Charles Dickens’ timeless classic A CHRISTMAS CAROL, adapted by audience favorite, Dr. Dennis Elkins. This season our long-time partner, Dennis Elkins, will tackle these two shows. He did a terrific job with THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE this past summer, and he’s a fan of the shows as well (duh!) Elkin’s productions will transform the theatre spaces into unique configurations that our audiences

have never seen before and we look forward to sharing these changes with you. Finally, how could we ignore the immense popularity of Karl Isberg’s unique and acerbic look at our favorite hometown characters and local color? Fear not, he’s back – with a new and hilarious look at life after trauma…or maybe the trauma of life…or perhaps? Well, it’s Karl…and it’s CAN’T MISS entertainment as we present his newest play CEREBROTINI: STIRRED, BUT NOT SHAKEN. As always, the best way to save on all our productions is with customized subscription packages. For more information, please feel free to talk to our front of house manager, Dale Scrivener, marketing director, Tess Wisher or myself or executive director, Laura Moore. We’re a small team, but we are big on personalized service. Enjoy all the shows at one theatre, or explore our beautiful mountains as you visit the winter landscape of Pagosa, stunning sunsets over the San Juans, tranquil falling of powder in the crisp morning air, and the rich heritage of the area and its regional native dwellers. Pagosa is your playground indoors and out! Have fun planning, and we’ll see you at the theatre. — Tim Moore Producing Artistic Director

Th e Fri en ds of the The atre “The Friends of the Thingamajig Theatre Company is a social organization in support of the not-for-profit professional theatre in Pagosa Springs. It operates in support of the theatre management, to assist in fundraising, organize social events, and to act as an advocacy group to the community. In so doing, we will aid in the long term success and sustainability of quality professional theater in Pagosa Springs.” After an extraordinary Summer Season at the Theatre, we look forward to the Winter and Spring Season. As usual, we were mesmerized by the performances and the staging of the Summer Season and it reinforced how lucky we are to have such a theatrical treasure in our community. The Friends of Thingamajig Theatre was formed just over three years ago to preserve and nurture this treasure that Laura and Tim Moore and their family have brought to our community. This remains the principle mission of the Friends organization. With a membership of over 260, there are obviously many others who felt the same way. The Friends organization provides the possibility of getting much closer to the theatre experience than would normally be possible. With numerous social activities, the popular “Behind the Scenes” series and Tech Tuesday Dinners, Friends get to know the actors, directors, technicians, and others involved in creating the magic of the theatre process. In addition, there are many other opportunities to interact with the cast and crew. One of the byproducts of these activities is that the Thingamajig Theatre is gaining a reputation amongst the global theater community as a wonderful working experience for those that come here. It is not only artistically challenging and

rewarding, but the support of the community through the Friends organization is now considered a major draw in their desire to perform here. The actors and crew will tell you that this level of community support and involvement is considered unique in the Theatre community. In some cases, the actors have been trying for several years to be hired on. As a result, the Thingamajig Theatre has been able to attract some of the brightest and best in the field. The bar for theatrical excellence keeps being set higher every year. So if you want to get closer to the theatre experience and join a group of likeminded people who love theatre and like to socialize, then you should consider joining the Friends of the Theatre. The membership fee is $30.00 per person per year. Should you wish to join or get more information, access the Theatre website at pagosacenter.org and go to the tab “support us” and look for links to the Friends. Or you can fill out an application form at the Theatre. On behalf of the Friends Steering Committee and the Friends of the Theatre, we hope you enjoy the shows. — Simon Fuger President of the Friends of the Theatre

I n Me moriam The Friends of the Theatre lost several ardent supporters of the Theatre this last Summer. As with any small organization, their loss is felt on a very personal level. We will miss Ed Haynes who was preceded in death earlier in the year by Beverly Warburton, his wife. Both loved our Theatre and never missed a performance or an opportunity to participate in Tech Tuesday Dinners. Cheryl Moore who helped the Theatre in so many ways. This included helping to set up and organize the purchase of the housewares for the new Artist House. Her passion and grace will always be missed. We are proud to have a piece of her signature style live on with us at the Artist House. Mary Webb served on the Steering Committee of the Friends of the Theatre from its inception. Mary was always the first in line to volunteer for all of the Theatre events and brought the most infectious enthusiasm to everything she participated in. Mary earned a spot close to our hearts and funny bones when she graced our stage in our locals production of How to Eat Like a Child Not only were these members great supporters of the Theatre, but they were our friends as well. We wish they were still amongst us, but they will linger on in our memories.
