Fair weather = big game Wet September key for successful hunting season It should be more of the same when it comes to game hunting in Gillespie County.

A dry summer with drought conditions gave way to a large amount of rainfall, which helps deer and turkey populations rebound from the heat.

“I’m seeing lots of turkey in the county in several different places, from what I’ve seen,” said Sam Harris, a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Game Warden for Gillespie County. “I haven’t talked to any of our Wildlife Management Area groups about their surveys, but the deer population looks good as always. I think the rain has helped them recover a little bit and put a little bit more food out there. I think it’s going to be a good season.”

The TPWD’S big game harvest survey report for the 20172018 hunting season estimated 203,129 hunters bagged 279,816 deer in the Edwards Plateau ecoregion, which includes Gillespie

County.

According to Outdoor Life Magazine’s 2017 hunting preview, the ecoregion is one of the state’s potential hotspots for hunting and boasts an estimated White-tailed deer population of 2.6 million deer, which comes out to a ratio of 130 deer per 1,000 acres of land.

“The habitat is here that allows a lot of the deer to be here,” Harris said. “I think the numbers are higher than they should be. We have a lot of oak trees that produce a lot of acorns and good, natural foods. It will be interesting to see how (that is affected) as more properties are broken up, but it just seems like the environment helps sustain that.”

The Old Farmer’s Almanac website predicts a milder and drier than normal winter for Texas, with weather set for rain, then sunny and cool for the first weekend of November.

Dove Dove hunting season started Sept. 1 and ends Nov. 4.

The season resumes Dec. 21 and continues until Jan. 14, 2019.

An estimated 7,024,472 doves were harvested at a rate of 22.66 per hunter, according to TPWD’s small game harvest survey.

The Edwards Plateau had the highest estimates for harvest of mourning and white-winged dove in all of the state’s regions, with the exception of South Texas.

Mourning dove totals were 843,174, and the estimated whitewinged dove numbers were 455,286.

An estimated 56,706 hunters combined for a 72.9 percent success rate.

TPWD estimates more than 300,000 Texas hunters harvest almost one-third of the mourning doves taken nationwide each year, far more than any other state.

Turkey Fall season for turkey hunting falls on the same dates as White-tailed deer. The spring season for Rio Grande Turkey runs from March 16-April 28 in Gillespie County.

TPWD estimates 42,471 turkeys were harvested statewide during the fall and spring seasons.

Of that number, 16,603 came from the Edwards Plateau during the fall season, which is the highest figure among the state’s regions. The spring number was 8,844.

No permit is required to hunt antlerless deer unless MLDP antlerless permits have been issued for the tract of land.

Turkey: The annual bag limit for turkey, in the aggregate for all counties, is four and no more than one of which may be an Eastern turkey. For the spring, gobblers or bearded hens have a bag limit of four, no more than one of which may be an Eastern turkey.

Dove: The daily bag limit for doves statewide is 15 and the possession limit is 45.

Hunting license rules and regulations A hunting license is required of any person, regardless of age, who hunts any animal, bird, frog or turtle in Texas (except furbearers, if the hunter possesses a trapper’s license). No license is required for nuisance fur-bearing animals, depredating hogs or coyotes. Non-residents under 17 years of age may purchase and hunt with the Youth Hunting License (Type 169).

A resident hunting license is $25. Various endorsement requirements apply.

All hunters born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, need to complete a Hunter Education Training Course.

An exception to that regulation is for those who are under the age of 17 years who are hunting with a person who is exempt from the rule because of age or who has completed the course.

A hunter education deferral is also available for those 17 years of age or older who want to hunt but cannot attend a hunter education course. The deferral costs $10 and is only valid until the end of the current license year.

Special season set for youth Youth hunters in Gillespie County get a special season to bag bucks, turkeys and other game during the fall and winter.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has established statewide youth-only open seasons for deer, turkey, squirrel and waterfowl for hunters ages 16 and under in counties across the state, including Gillespie County.

The early season for both white-tailed deer and turkey hunting runs from Oct. 27-28, with late seasons running Jan. 7-20 for both, as well.

The purpose of youth-only open seasons is to provide young people with opportunities to learn about wildlife conservation through an enjoyable and memorable outdoor experience.

It also gives parents and mentors an opportunity to introduce them to safe and responsible hunting, according to a spokesperson for the TPWD. The youth-only open season hunts are scheduled to occur at times when young outdoorsmen and women are out of school.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department encourages experienced hunters to seek out youth and provide the guidance to make the event both enjoyable and educational for the beginning hunter.

A Youth Hunting License (Type 169) is required to hunt during this season, and costs $7.

The license can be purchased at any one of TPWD’s 28 field offices, more than 50 state parks or at over 1,700 retailers across the state.

All legal hunting means and methods are allowed. Collin, Dallas, Grayson and Rockwall counties require an archery endorsement.

For much of the state, including Gillespie County and the remainder of the Hill Country, the bag and permit requirements are the same as for the general season in the county.

Licenses may be purchased online through the TPWD website at www. tpwd.texas.gov/buy or by phone at 1-800-895-4248. A $5 administrative fee is charged for each phone or online transaction.

White-tailed deer The season is open in all counties

Harper hunt honors military families Harper Wildlife Management Association (HWMA), Fredericksburg Salutes Our Wounded Warriors and the Texas Youth Hunting Program are set to sponsor the sixth annual youth hunt in memory of Jacob Krebs on Jan. 11-13.

Krebs drowned on March 26, 2013, while training for his Navy SEAL contract.

He loved the outdoors and loved his country, according to his mother, Mary Krebs. She said he was adamant about honoring all soldiers, specifically wounded warriors.

And that’s why his parents decided to honor all wounded warriors by hosting a special youth hunt weekend for their children ages nine to 17.

The hunt is not designed to “just harvest a deer,” but provide an educational awareness of hunter safety, ethical hunting, land and wildlife management, land conservation and stewardship, Jacob’s dad, William Krebs, said.

The mission of the hunt, profiled in a Texas Parks and Wildlife video released February 2018, is to honor the military by providing opportunities for youth and families of military veterans to experience wildlife and hunting activities

through participating in the Texas Youth Hunting Program.

These young Texans participate in youth hunting activities, including hunter safety laws, experiencing a firing range, how to process game, how to make sausage and learning how to preserve the hunting heritage for present and future generations.

Jacob was a volunteer for the Texas Youth Hunting Program and the Texas Wildlife Association (TWA).

He participated in many youth hunts and eventually became a Youth Hunter Education Instructor. He was also an Eagle Scout and truly believed in “doing a good turn daily,” his mother said.

Fredericksburg Salutes Our Wounded Warriors provides scholarships to many children and their parents who attend.

The goal is to give up to 25 youth of fallen or wounded soldiers the opportunity to hunt on different ranches in the Harper area.

Area management groups serve as wildlife stewards

The Cave Creek, Cherry Spring, Doss and Harper Wildlife Management Associations are committed to promoting good stewardship of land and natural resources while improving the qual-

Promoting good stewardship of the land and natural resources while improving the quality of white-tail deer is the mission of four wildlife management associations in Gillespie County.

The four Wildlife Management Associations include Cave Creek, Cherry Spring, Doss and Harper.

The associations are under the umbrella of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Gillespie County.

Along with their efforts to help manage the deer population, all four groups also sponsor youth hunts to expose children to hunting and the outdoors.

In fact, the Cave Creek WMA was the first in the state to offer such a program.

With approximately 60 members, the Cave Creek WMA covers the eastern part of Gillespie County.

Officers include Sammy Segner, president; Keven Eckhardt, vice president; Carol Birmingham, secretary, and Larry Ahrens, treasurer.

The organization meets three to four times a year, which includes the annual meeting in August and regular meetings in October, November and February.

All meetings are open to the public, and persons wanting more information or to join are encouraged to contact any of the officers.

Members conduct three spotlight census surveys and collect data for Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The most recent census began in late August and ended in mid-September.

By counting the number of females,

males and fawns, the organization can get a better idea of the buck-to-doe ratio and the fawn crop, according to Segner.

“After the drought of 2011, the eastern part of the county has seen a very large survival rate of fawns with most does having twins and even a few triplets,” Segner said. “One of the concerns of the Cave Creek WMA is that this population growth will endanger the deer population beyond the carrying capacity of the land.”

On the Friday night before the opening of deer season, the Cave Creek WMA hosts a meal and social.

After the meal, door prizes are given away and an educational program presented.

On the first weekend, the group offers to age and weigh deer, and sponsors a big buck and a cull buck contest, which

“This gives a feel for the condition the deer are in and the ages of the deer being harvested,” Segner said.

Segner explained that one of the goals of the Cave Creek WMA is to educate landowners and hunters on wildlife management practices and to help create a better outdoor experience for all.

Cherry Spring WMA Covering about 22,872 acres in the north central part of Gillespie County is the Cherry Spring WMA. The group has a membership of 57 people.

Wilfred Crenwelge is the president of the organization. Other officers include Ruben Sagebiel, vice president, and Alice Crenwelge, secretary/treasurer.

Meetings, which are open to the public, are held in February, August and October.

Anyone in the north-central part of Gillespie County can join the Cherry Spring WMA by paying the yearly dues. Currently, dues are $25.

All meetings include a potluck dinner and presentations by speakers, including representatives from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Members conduct three deer counts in August, September and the first two days of the white-tail hunting season.

The association also hosts a youth hunt in January under the leadership of Daniel Sagebiel with voluntary participation by

landowners.

Members also participate in Kerr and Mason wildlife areas.

One of the goals of the group, according to Crenwelge, is to provide guidance in wildlife management and related resources.

Another goal is to help landowners produce high quality and healthy wildlife.

A reason to join the group, Crenwelge said, is to help landowners develop best management practices for improving wildlife and to help landowners achieve the same goals and management practices as one’s neighbors.

Doss WMA The Doss Wildlife Management Association (WMA) was started in the early 1980s by a group of local ranchers, wildlife biologists and extension agents, and includes northwest Gillespie County/South Central Mason County.

Currently, there are 129 members encompassing 95,421 acres.

Officers are Vaughn Usener, president; Lance Feuge, vice president, and Cathy Eckert, secretary/treasurer.

The association holds an annual meeting in late October and a membership sign-up in late August. Meetings are open to the public.

The Doss WMA includes six census lines that perform three separate spotlight counts in September. The census line counts provide data which is used by wildlife biologists to determine harvest recommendations for the fall whitetailed hunting season.

Doss Wildlife Management Association strives to bring landowners together to ensure a healthy and stable deer population. The organization’s goal is to share ideas, techniques, and experiences that will enable all members to have a successful hunting season for both themselves as well as their hunters; while maintaining a balanced doe to buck ratio.

“Hunting is both a great pastime as well as an economic boost for our community,” Usener said. “The Doss WMA is currently in its third year of hosting a youth hunt, which teaches youth about gun safety, appreciation for the

outdoors, and responsibility that comes with hunting.”

Hunting hogs from a helicopter in the Hill Country is a whole ’nother ball game,” seasoned hunting guide Austin Dempsey explains. “The Hill Country has lower brush and trees and getting a shot at a moving target from a helicopter, in that kind of terrain is something completely different. It’s a thrill ride unlike any other.”

partner, Matt Tekulve, are pioneers of hunting hogs from a helicopter in the Texas Hill Country. The two have been hunting guides in the Fredericksburg area for over a decade and proudly share that combined they have led hunters to harvest over 1,000 animals from a list of over 50 species.

“I didn’t grow up hunting,” Dempsey confesses. “I’m from Plano originally and came down here with a buddy from college. He took me on my first deer hunt

on his family’s ranch in Center Point when I was 19. I fell in love with hunting and moved onto his family’s Walnut Valley Ranch soon after. I started guiding after that.”

Tekulve took a more traditional path to become a hunting guide. “I grew up squirrel hunting with my dad in Kentucky,” Tekulve says. “I took my first whitetail at age 16 on the banks of the Ohio River.”

Since their arrival in the Hill Country, Dempsey and Tekulve have seen hunting in the area explode in popularity and seen a wealth of changes.

“It used to be just about whitetails,” Dempsey recalls.

“That’s what most hunters were after when I first started.

Exotics were just an add on.”

Today, exotics are huge business and Tekulve’s TEK Outdoors proudly offers hunts for 50-plus species. Species range from those native to North America but not found in Texas to those indigenous to Africa, Europe, Asia and South America.

“Exotic hunts are really a huge business in the Hill Country,” Dempsey explains. “As we say, you don’t need a passport to hunt the world. Just get in touch with us. We’ll have you hunting some of the best game in the world in no time. And our helicopter hunts jack the excitement level up even higher.”

TEK Outdoors’ helicopter hog hunts take place on over 20,000 acres north of Fredericksburg and dive bombs hunters into the thick of the action.

A Robinson R44 helicopter capable of speeds upwards of 140 miles per hour serves as the platform for this thrill ride and hunters can target boar, coyotes and bobcat with their choice of weapons.

“Most hunters opt for an AR,” Dempsey says. “But we’ve

found that a longer barrel shotgun with double aught buckshot works best.”

The action is fast and furious with hunters often taking shots at upwards of 20 hogs per hour. The boar targeted range in size from average to more than 200 pounds.

Harper slates hunting season events Two events are planned to coincide with the opening of the 2018-2019 big game season.

The Harper Turkey Shoot is set for Friday, Nov. 2, while members of the Harper Volunteer Fire Department and EMS will host their annual benefit fish fry on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Turkey Shoot Friday, Nov. 2 Sponsored by Harper American Legion Post 650, the turkey shoot will be held from 10 a.m. to around 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at the rodeo grounds in the Harper Community Park.

Offered will be archery targets and rifle targets.

There will also be a paddle wheel with a large selection of prizes for the winners. The American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary will be offering food and drinks throughout the day.

Persons can also purchase tickets for a prize drawing.

Tickets for the drawing are $1 each or six for $5, and are available from Legion members as well as at Security State Bank and Trust in Harper. The winning tickets will be drawn in December.

Operation Orphans slates youth hunts Operation Orphans, Inc., has set its dates for hunts this season.

The organization has selected the following days for the 2018-19 season: Oct. 27, girls’ hunt; Nov. 17, boys’ hunt; Dec. 1, boys’ hunt; and Jan. 12, boys’ hunt.

Operation Orphans, Inc., based at Camp Gene Ashby, in Mason County along the Llano River, has taken kids who are wards of the state hunting since 1960. Over 18,000 boys and girls who live in child residential and foster homes have participated.

The Operation Orphans, Inc. program is offered free of charge to the participating children.

The groups come to Camp Gene Ashby on designated dates and hunt on area ranches. The ranches use this program as a way to harvest excess animals, usually whitetail does.

They also assist in educating these youngsters on the responsibilities of hunting. The children’s homes use the meat in their facilities or in their out-

reach programs. Each child will have at least one guide who will spend the day with them.

During the girls’ hunt, each girl will have a woman or a man and woman team to serve as guides.

Individuals who volunteer as guides will have successfully completed the Hunter Safety Course and will have been subject to a background check.

This year will be the 59th year of the “Take a Child Hunting” program.

At the present time, Operation Orphans, Inc. is looking for ranches who would like to host children.

Without the participation of area landowners and lease hunters, this program could not continue.

Operation Orphans, Inc. can provide the children, guides, and food for the activity. Some landowners only offer their ranch to hunt, while others guide or prepare lunch for the attending groups. Most ranches allow doe hunting only, while others may allow the harvest of spikes or management bucks. Feral hogs may be also harvested.

Each landowner specifies what animals are allowed to be harvested.

While hunting may be the planned activity, it is not the main objective.

The goal is to get these kids in the outdoors with folks who care about them. Harvesting a deer is merely a bonus. Operation Orphans, Inc. is a non-profit organization made up of a board of directors with the sole purpose to serve less fortunate youngsters by offering them a positive outdoor experience.

The Gillespie County Wild Game Dinner is back for its 12th year at the Gillespie County Fair Grounds on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and food will be served until 8:30 p.m.

Advance tickets are available for $25 (same price at the gate) at the following locations: Arrowhead Bank, Stroeher and Olfers and Lochte Feed and General Store, and at Allied Ag Services in Stonewall.

This year’s dinner will feature an enlarged seating area, food court and added tents for exhibits and dining.

Food offered will include axis, White-tailed deer, black buck, wild turkey, hog, mountain sheep, goat, elk, alligator, quail, seafood gumbo, shish kebabs, chili, Boudin balls and much more.

Barbecue plates will also be available with all the trimmings.

The Wild Game Dinner will have more firearms in the live auction and prize drawing, a spokesperson said. The “Rivalry Bid-Out” this year will feature cus-

“Anyone who has ever been to one of our Wild Game Dinners knows the auctioneer is the highlight of the show,” said Billy Teague, a founding board member. “Craig is a former state and world champion auctioneer and he can do things with his voice that absolutely amaze me. It’s worth coming just to see him work.”

Meier and his wife, Angie (who is also a champion auctioneer), are North Texas cattle ranchers, with ties to Fredericksburg, and they perform across the country.

Over 200 volunteers, hundreds of sponsors/donors/business owners, out-of-town hunters and the patrons who attend the event are key in helping raise money, a spokesperson said.

All of the funds raised — over $1.2 million since 2007 — goes to help youth and adult agricultural education.

Recipients of this year’s donations are Gillespie County 4-H and FFA Livestock Show Sale, Blanco County 4-H and FFA Sale, Gillespie County 4-H, Gillespie County Farm Bureau, Fredericksburg FFA, Harper FFA, Hill County District Livestock Show Sale (Kerr), Rodeo Austin Livestock Show, Gillespie County Wild Game Dinner, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Heart of the Hills Barrel Racing Association, additional livestock trailers for Fredericksburg FFA, and Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, Inc. Hunters for the Hungry helps feed those in need Hunters who want to help others and not see their sport go to waste this season can donate the meat they harvest to a program that helps the needy.

“Hunters for the Hungry” is a statewide program associated with Feeding Texas, formerly the Texas Food Bank Network.

The program helps ease hunger in the state through donated meat.

Since its inception in 1997, the program has provided more than two million pounds of meat — nearly 9.54 million servings — to hungry Texans. Last year, food banks distributed more than 95,000 pounds of meat or 380,000 servings to the hungry.

The program connects a hunter with participating deer/ meat processors and the meet is distributed through food banks.

Although it doesn’t donate to individuals, those in need of food should call 211, visit www.211texas.org or contact a food assistance provider directly.

To donate deer for the Hunters for the Hungry program, hunters should bring their legally tagged and field dressed deer to a participating meat processor.

There is no processing fee this year as meat processors are reimbursed through donations from hunters who donate when purchasing hunting and fishing licenses or through online donations.

“We encourage hunters to make donations to this cause so we can provide this service to those in need,” a spokesman said.

The participating meat processor will then prepare the meat and get it to a local food assistance provider.

Other wild game will not be accepted by processors for this program. Hunters for the Hungry cannot accept meat that has already been processed, but can help find a food assistance provider who may be able to accept it directly.

Another Hill Country processor participating in a similar program is Schneider’s Deer Processing.

Owner Greg Schneider processes about 20-25 deer and donates the meat to the Fredericksburg Food Pantry and other area churches.

Food for the body, soul

Christian Bowhunters lends helping hand by providing processed meat Feeding the body and the soul is the focus of the Texas Hill Country Chapter of the Christian Bowhunters of America.

The purpose of the group is to assist local and area communities by providing processed and packaged wild game meat to local food pantries, including the Fredericksburg Food Pantry, and to individuals in need.

The meat is delivered in vacuumsealed packages that include a printed gospel message in both English and Spanish.

The recipients are getting nourishment for the body and soul, said organizer Danny Bezet.

To help continue their mission of providing meat year-round, the group needs help and support from the community.

They are seeking monetary donations to help with expenses and are also seeking hunters willing to donate their legally harvested animals.

“The incentive is that hunters will be able to use their extra tags to harvest animals that will help feed hungry families, and at no cost to the hunter,” Bezet said. “This places farmers and hunters back into their traditional roles as food providers in the community instead of the government.”

Bezet said that the organization has donated approximately 4,000 pounds of packaged meat so far this year. The group’s goal is 8,000 to 10,000 pounds

According to Bezet, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr and Bandera counties can each use 300-600 pounds of processed wild game each month.

Because of the continuous need for meat, the program accepts donations of any kind, including legally harvested wild game year-round. One processed animal results in about 200 servings, Bezet said.

Share a picture perfect harvest The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post has set guidelines for 2018-19 hunting season photo submissions for print.

To qualify for free publication, photos must meet the following criteria: • All animals pictured must be legally-harvested following all Texas regulations; • Either the animal or the hunter must be from Gillespie County; • Only the hunter who shot the deer may appear in the photo with the animal — no exceptions; • Each hunter may submit no more than one photo per season — no exceptions; • The animal’s entire carcass must be present and attached to the head. (No caped out or head-only/antler-only photos will be accepted.)

• Pictures of does or spikes will not be accepted; During regular business hours — Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. — available staff photographers will take photos of those stopping

5. Time and date of the kill.

6. Number of points on the buck. (Newspaper staff will not be responsible for counting points, so that number must be provided before publication will take place.)

7. Measurements of the antlers, including width and height, and, if applicable, a Boone & Crockett score.

8. Field-dressed weight of the deer, if available.

Doss Community Club to host Chili, Tamale Supper Doss Community Improvement Club will host its Chili and Tamale Supper fundraiser from 7-9 p.m. on the opening day of hunting season on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Doss Community Center.

Cost of the meal is by donation.

Operation Game Thief (OGT), Texas’ wildlife Crime Stoppers program, offers rewards as high as $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction for wildlife crime.

Started in 1981 as a result of laws passed by the 67th Texas Legislature to help curtail poaching, the program, a function of the law enforcement division of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is highly successful and is responsible for the payment of more than $250,000 in rewards.

Privately funded, the program is dependent on financial support from the public through the purchase of OGT memberships and merchandise, donations, sponsorships and gifts.

Because Texas is a large state — more than 262,000 square miles with 24 million people living in its 254 counties — it’s difficult for the estimated 530 wardens to patrol the state looking for those people who break hunting and fishing laws.

The program is important because it uses the public’s “eyes and ears” to assist in the intervention of the money-driven exploitation of the wildlife resources of the state.

Various freshwater and saltwater fish, including white bass, crappie, striped and hybrid striped bass, catfish, redfish, speckled trout, flounder, black drum and others are being taken through the use of illegal nets in large quantities, and without regard for size or bag limits.

Anyone who sees any potential illegal hunting or fishing activity should call the TPWD’s Operation Game Thief at 1-800792-4263.

Shrimp and oysters are often harvested in illegal quantities and from areas closed to harvest. The product is then sold, both in and out of state.

Even birds, snakes, turtles, mussels and protected plants fall prey to these operators.

Finding a solution What can the citizens of Texas do to help resolve this problem?

The answer is simple: Get involved.

Alert observation by concerned citizens, followed by immediate reporting of the suspected violation, gives the local warden an edge in catching the criminals.

Operation Game Thief is the mechanism that allows citizens to get immediately involved and quickly get that information to the warden.

Receiving a tip on illegal activity while it is occurring can make a difference in whether or not the violator is apprehended.

Even if the offender has left the scene before the warden can get there, there may be evidence, or even other witnesses with information, that can be used to make a case in court.

People who have information on lawbreakers are asked to call (800) 792-GAME (4263). The reward hotline is manned 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Music, entertainment on tap After hunters have a successful day in the field, hunters can wind down, stretch their legs and enjoy all that Fredericksburg and Gillespie County has to offer.

Live entertainment Live music of all styles and eras fills the Fredericksburg air every weekend as musicians entertain visitors and locals alike with styles ranging from soothing to upbeat, classical to rock and roll and everything in between.

On weeknights and weekends, dozens of clubs, restaurants and dance halls feature live entertainment. There are also special theatre productions, festivals and concerts that happen throughout the year.

The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post features a weekly listing of live music in the “It’s On” section of the newspaper.

Fredericksburg Theater Company Fredericksburg Theater Company will stage several events during hunting season, including The Wonderettes.

The production will be presented Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 14-16 and Dec. 21-23 at 7:30 p.m., with the Sunday showing at 2 p.m.

The Texas Hill Country Cowboy Gathering takes place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10.
