1843 Formerly known as La Chapelle, Père Antoine Désiré Mégret founded the town and named it Abbeville after his hometown in France.

1854 The original church (dedicated to St. Ann) burned down, and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church now stands in the same location.

1894 The Bank of Abbeville was established. It later burned in the Great Concord Street Fire of 1903, after which the larger iconic bank was built and still stands 1910 CS Steen Syrup Mill was founded.

Bruchez: Make sure you are in physical shape. It is more of a physically demanding job than people realize.

Many fail our agility test before being hired and do not realize how heavy our equipment is.

337: Do you work elsewhere?

Bruchez: Yes, I teach jiujitsu at Gladiator’s Academy.

Bruchez: I have a wife and two boys, ages 5 and 2.

Without their support I wouldn’t be able to do this job.

Bruchez: Being able to help others in need. The most memorable moments that I will never forget is when I saved a baby’s life who was choking as well as helping all the people during the August flood.

Bruchez: I fear heights. As a fireman, climbing on top of roofs (which is very common for us) is the most terrifying thing for me on the job. If you see a group of firemen on top of roof and one is crouching down, that is me!

Lormand Lafayette native Judd Lormand shines on screen

By Lynn Castille Fans of “Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “American Horror Story” and “Homeland” all know the name Judd Lormand. Area actors eagerly attempt to follow in his footsteps, and longtime friends speak highly of his personal character.

In a recent interview with 337 magazine, Judd Lormand discussed his impressive acting career. His said that favorite projects include “Joyful Noise,” the role of Robert McNamara in the upcoming movie “LBJ,” Neil DeKay in the 2011 television series “Memphis Beat,” and Officer Lapenski in the 2016 comedy “Here Comes Rusty.”

Lormand also said he’s often typecast as a cop. A good example is the 2016 Tom Cruise film “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.”

Born in Texas, Lormand grew up in Lafayette. In 2009 he married and moved to Baton Rouge to pursue acting professionally.

Lormand also revealed that being away from family is one of the hardest parts of the job, and often the best part of his day is facetime with his wife and children.

When asked his advice to aspiring actors he said, “It’s important to have a support system in place. Also, work as hard as you can and be kind to people.” We couldn’t agree more.

Tax Saving Opportunities Reducing that year-end tax bite

By Kyle B. Kellner, CPA, CFP®, skbaa.com The year’s end is just around the corner. This means you only have a little more time to look for tax saving opportunities for 2016.

Below is a list of some ways to help reduce that year-end tax bite. Of course, please consult with your CPA or tax professional as everyone’s tax situation is unique.

ITEMIZED DEDUCTIONS For those who itemize your deductions, advancing some early 2017 payments may make tax sense. This can be done by making your fourth, state estimated tax payment in December.

You may also make your January 2017 mortgage payment before yearend. This would increase your mortgage interest paid for 2016.

The same goes for charitable contribution deductions. If you were going to make non-cash charitable donations in January 2017 anyways, it may make sense to accelerate these payments before year-end to bump up that deduction.

DEFER BONUSES OR OTHER INCOME If you can pick the timing of your receipt of income, it is usually a better idea to defer income into the following year. If you are self-

employed, think about deferring client invoices to be mailed out until Jan. 1.

If you are to receive a bonus from your employer, you may be able to defer receipt of this money until the new year as well. By doing so, you are effectively delaying the taxation on this money for another year.

WITHHOLDINGS AND TAX PAYMENTS Paying the proper amount of tax in the appropriate time frame is important to minimizing underpayment and “failure to pay” penalties and/or interest on your tax return.

We already pay so much in taxes, let’s keep the avoidable costs to a minimum by adjusting your withholdings to pay in the bulk of your tax during the year or by making those quarterly estimates our tax preparers tell us to make.

CAPITAL GAINS AND LOSSES If you have investments you are considering selling in taxable accounts, look to sell the losers by the end of the year. Taking the loss now will allow you to write off the loss against other gains plus a maximum of $3,000 in capital losses per year.

However, if you want to cash in on a big winner or two, think about taking those gains post Dec. 31. Taxes are only one facet though.

Make sure the timing and economics of the sale make sense to your investment strategy.

The Cinderella Project: More Than A Prom Dress 10 years of making a difference

By Mandie Kiddy In March 2017, The Cinderella Project will celebrate it’s 10-year anniversary. What started out as a simple idea has grown into 10 years of outreach to high school girls around the Acadiana area.

Since inception in 2007, the program has expanded its original vision of simply finding a way to offset prom expenses for high school girls. It’s now providing education and guidance beyond graduation.

The blowout 10th anniversary event is planned for March 11 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Blackham Coliseum. It is free to attend but limited to girls who are juniors and seniors in high school.

As they check in the girls will be given a numbered wristband so that groups can shop for dresses, shoes, handbags and jewelry when called instead of having to stand in a line. In the meantime, there will be multiple things happening: • Girls can speak with representatives from local technical schools, South Louisiana Community College and University

of Louisiana at Lafayette to discuss possibilities for higher education after high school.

• Louisiana State Troopers will be educating on the dangers of drunken driving and driving safety.

• Door prizes provided by donations from sponsors will be given away.

The original concept of The Cinderella Project was created by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Americorps Student Organization. The program has succeeded because of their efforts and by the generous sponsorship of local area businesses such as Deano’s Pizza, Caroline & Company and A-Net’s Bridal Boutique as well as Bevo’s and Cabelo Salon.

The Homebuying Process A timeline from start to finish

By Joan D. Wallace, Esq. The process of buying a home is something with which most people are unfamiliar. Prospective buyers often find themselves asking “What now?” after their offer to purchase a home is accepted by the seller.

In the majority of transactions, the buyer will secure financing in order to purchase the property. Once the buyer selects a lender, the mortgage company investigates the buyer’s credit and insures that all underwriting tasks are complete.

The lender will require an appraisal of the property to confirm that the agreed-upon purchase price is appropriate. In addition, the lender will require that the buyer obtain insurance covering the property and naming the lender as an “additional insured” on the policy.

During this same timeframe, the buyer will have the property inspected for defects. The parties may then enter into additional negotiations regarding any items from the inspection report that may require repair prior to closing. Most buyers also request that a

pest control company inspect the property for any signs of termites or termite damage.

As the title company handling the transaction, we are tasked with examining the chain of title to ensure that there are no encumbrances or “clouds” on the title.

The time period from acceptance of the offer to arrival at the closing table is typically about 30 days. It is a busy 30 days with many moving parts all working toward the same goal: closing your transaction as smoothly as possible.

Razzle Dazzle Four essentials for any holiday party

By Cecile Walters Hebert Whether you’re throwing an intimate girlfriend get together or having the whole neighborhood come over, follow these four guidelines to dazzle your guests.

FOOD/DRINK

Nibbles should be bite size so as to not require silverware or a large plate. A good variety consists of a protein, veggies, crackers and cheese or dip, and sweets.

337 Pro Tip: Level up from the store-bought cheese and veggie trays! Instead of cubed bags of cheese, go for a sharp cheddar, mild cheese like Jarlsberg or Havarti, and a soft and creamy cheese like triple cream Brie.

Sliced cucumbers, colorful bell peppers, asparagus and endive will bring some pizzazz to this typically dull menu staple.

Music sets the tone of the party! There’s tons of Christmas music out there, but don’t feel limited to just playing songs of the holidays. Mix it up for a good variety of songs. Volume should be low to medium; you don’t want your guests yelling over “Santa Baby.”

Get your landscape plan down on paper

By Justin Price, EcoScapesLafayette.com If incessant rains or freezing temps are keeping you indoors this winter, don’t just daydream about creating your landscaping.

Get a pencil and paper and plan it out!

Having a plan is essential to installing it right the first time.

From basic things like cardinal direction and sunlight intensity to textural contrast and creating focal points, landscape planning is a combination of constraints and desires.

Consider the placement of walkways and sitting areas first, which will dictate planting beds and other features. Think about what views you want to frame or hide or if a path should lead someplace such as a pond.

Once you know the viewing angles, sketch out the sitting areas, pathways and planting beds. Measure the area to be landscaped and scale it down by substituting inches for feet (ex.

1” = 10’).

A formal design with plants such as boxwoods will be 32

dominated by straight lines, but paths and beds should still have some curves to punctuate the geometry and allow for groupings of perennials.

A naturalistic design should be all curves, and paths can be made with natural flagstone to bring another earth element to the scene. Include native trees, shrubs and perennials to reinforce our natural ecosystem and invite birds and butterflies to your yard.

Consider a water feature such as a fountain, placed close to the main sitting area so you can enjoy the soothing sound.

After the big picture is put on paper, turn your attention to plant design. Use layering by placing trees and large shrubs in the background, with smaller shrubs and perennials in front, perhaps leaving room for a splash of annual flower color.

When you visit the local retail nursery in spring, when lots of plants become available, you’ll be ready to bring them home to your landscape.

MAN CAVE Tim Metcalf’s is a walk on the wild side

T

im Metcalf is often recognized by his numerous, successful entrepreneurial endeavors, most popularly Dean-O’s Pizza and most recently I Love Kickboxing.

His passion for a perfect pizza and an equally matched mixed martials arts fight may only be overshadowed by his love for the most primal of arts: bow hunting.

Evidence of Metcalf’s deep-seeded desire to be one with the land and source food naturally began to materialize in 2009 in what would eventually become the epitome of man caves.

Currently, it is much more than a sight to be seen, it is a tale to be heard, an experience to be had.

What begins as a large open kitchen transforms into a massive multimedia room with quite a stunning view. The expedition begins with an African wall, where every animal is unique, and then moves into New Zealand with the remaining two walls dedicated to

North American species.

It’s akin to some of the nation’s top museums. Visitors learn through the natural flow of conversation about distant regions and cultures, both of which Metcalf is very respectful of.

Besides the abundance of indigenous mounts, a variety of artwork and artifacts also abound. Furthermore, just steps out the double doors the ambiance shifts to an exotic resort where you can dip your toes in a beautiful pool canopied by palms.

It’s the possibly-overlooked details that show

the love and attention that went into creating this one of a kind space. Etchings in the floor done by Metcalf and his beautiful wife, Karen, are reminiscent of early cave carvings. Even the railing on the spiral staircase leading to the upstairs loft has the occasional bow arrow built in.

While the attention is easily focused on the animals, the action in Metcalf’s man cave is really the food flowing from the kitchen and the various sporting events on the big screen.

That is, until plans for his next great adventure begin to take shape.

Dear Design by Todd and Jen, How should I decorate my mantel?

Yours Truly, Ready in Rayne Dear Ready, A very simple mantel solution is to choose one bold piece of art as your centerpiece. Less is more when it comes to mantel decorating.

A mantle does not need to be exactly symmetrical, but it should be balanced. Whether you have art, mirror or TV over it, keep the mantel as simple as you can.

See the example shown in our photo “art on mantel.” Note how one bold piece of art is enough; decorating with restraint gives the artwork reverence.

This doesn’t necessarily mean lack of decoration. We accessorized the rest of the space with bold drapery and added light on the dark corners with lamps that were also reflected in etched mirrors to further reflect light.

Also, note the example “mirror and flowers on mantel.” This mantel trick is to use a large mirror. This Mirror and flowers on mantel works especially well in a smaller space that you’d like to make look a bit larger.

Before deciding on a mirror, test it out in the spot you’d like to place it as you want to ensure that there are no odd reflections. We added five vases with fresh flowers (low candles work here too).

If you have a very bold fireplace mantel, remember that you have the freedom to “decorate” with nothing at all.

Zen refers to meditation. In interior design, it reflects balance, harmony and relaxation, and it is often associated with minimalism.

It is more a way of arranging a home and creating an atmosphere that offsets the stress and hassle of daily routine. We achieve that through the space plan and finish specifications.

In this elegant master bathroom, the Zen Principle of Simplicity (elimination of clutter) - Kanso - was applied within our design scheme to create a soothing environment. We used calm, neutral hues, natural stone materials and crisp, clean lines to create a balanced and harmonious space.

When things are expressed in a plain, simple, natural manner it reminds us to think not in terms of decoration but in terms of clarity…a kind of clarity that may be achieved through omission or exclusion of the nonessential.

Kanso dictates that beauty and utility need not be overstated, overly decorative or fanciful. The overall effect is fresh, clean and neat.

Zen lesson: Eliminate what doesn't matter to make more room for what does.

Navigating the Holidays Survival tips and a no-fail recipe

The holidays are extremely tough to navigate when you’re trying to stay on track and eat healthy, but it’s not impossible! There’s no way to completely avoid all the unhealthy options, but you can stay on track by using these holiday survival tips.

There’s also a delicious recipe for roasted root vegetables that’s to die for – and the easiest side dish ever! Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.

Survival Tip #1: See Your Plate!

When food isn’t overlapping and piled high, you’re keeping in control of your portions. When serving yourself food, make sure you can see your plate.

Roasted Root Vegetables 1 tablespoon coconut oil 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar 2 teaspoons honey 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard ¼ teaspoon salt 2 cups sweet potatoes, cubed into 1-inch pieces 2 cups baby carrots 1 large red onion, chopped 1 parsnip, chopped Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a large bowl, whisk together the oil, balsamic, honey, Dijon and salt. Toss with the chopped vegetables and arrange on a baking sheet. Bake for 40-50 minutes. Serve immediately.

LIFESA ERS MATTHEW SIBILLE Emergency Room RN, Lafayette General Medical Center 337: Where are you originally from?

Sibille: Lafayette, born and raised.

337: What are your hobbies or interests outside of work?

Sibille: I like to play video games. I also enjoy riding my mountain bike and playing golf.

337: What do you do to unwind?

Sibille: There’s nothing better than a good massage. When the weather gets nice, I like laying in my hammock for a nap.

337: Where did you attain your degree?

Sibille: I attended LSUE to attain my nursing degree, but I also have a degree from UL in Industrial Technology.

337: What lead you to your profession?

Sibille: I became a lifeguard in 2003 and three years later joined the Scott Volunteer Fire Department, which led to me attaining my EMT certification.

After that, emergency medicine started to grow on me.

337: What do you find most rewarding about nursing?

Sibille: I get to meet and help new people every day. I walk into a complete stranger’s room and ask them personal questions. You should be able to bond with your patient so you can build trust. This can be a challenge but can also be very rewarding.

My favorite patients to talk to are the very few World War 2 veterans that come in for treatment. These

patients have the utmost appreciation for everything.

It’s an honor to be able to care for them. Plus, they usually have some good stories to tell me!

337: What should people know about nursing?

Sibille: Nurses are teachers and patient advocates. We carry out the plan of care a doctor creates for our 337: Tell us about your family.

Sonnier: I’ve been married to Joshua Sonnier for five years, and we have one daughter, McKalyn, who is 2. Our other child is our dog Gizmo who is 12 years old.

337: What do you do to relax?

Sonnier: I enjoy taking hot, bubble baths with lavender or eucalyptus with glass of wine. I also enjoy just relaxing at home watching movies with my family.

337: Where did you attend school?

Sonnier: I graduated from Teurlings Catholic High School and from ULL College of Nursing.

Sonnier: As a little girl, my mom would come home and I would be watching horror movies or shows doing surgery.

She figured I would be in the medical field. My dad was also a paramedic, and I think that had a lot to do with me choosing the medical profession.

Sonnier: I’ve been a RN for eight years.

337: What do you find most rewarding about your profession?

Sonnier: Building such close relationships with my patients is very special. They truly become like family, relying on me for help and guidance. I love seeing the positive outcomes for all our patients, and a simple “thank you” goes a long way for me!

337: What would you want people know about your profession?

Sonnier: I work with Dr. James Dobbs at Cardiology Specialists of Acadiana.

We focus mainly on cardiac problems such heart attacks, congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, vascular problems and many other diagnoses. Cardiac has always been my passion, and there is so much to learn and understand about the heart; without it, we wouldn’t be here!

SUPER FIT FAMILY The amazing Wiltz family seems unstoppable

By Mandie Kiddy Jessica, Brittany and Harley Wiltz are not your average family.

These guys aren’t just fit; they are competition level fit.

The trio follows strict workout regimens and nutrition plans. Oh, and they are all personal trainers too.

Being around fitness and exercise their whole lives has played a major role in influencing them to not only stay active as adults but also to push and strive for success on a competitive level.

JESSICA WILTZ Jessica Wiltz has always had fitness in her life. After retiring from the Lafayette Parish School Board she opened “Your Body

by Wright,” a personal training facility that caters to women in need of empowerment and guidance for their fitness goals.

Jessica decided to compete at the age of 47 as part of completing her bucket list that she made after she discovered a tumor that threatened her with facial paralysis.

Her son and daughter suggested they train and compete together, and that’s what they did. She was able to compete with her children and celebrated a 100 percent recovery.

Although her preparations for competition are stricter, her regular fitness routine is three days of weight training and three days of cardio for 40 minutes, such as a run in the park.

Jessica’s number one piece of advice to someone trying to get fit is that your eating is key! She told 337 magazine, “Just get it in your head that what you put in your body is what you will get out of it.

“Just like your car. If you want your car to last years, you have to put in the proper maintenance to sustain it. Your body is the same concept.”

BRITTANY WILTZ Brittany Wiltz followed the example her mother set for her at an early age and has always been excited about fitness. She went from running on a homemade grass cut track in the yard as a kid to competing in a Bikini Novice figure competition.

Now she not only is a trainer with her mother at “Your Body by Wright” in Lafayette, she is also a personal trainer at AnyTime Fitness in St. Martinville as well as the marketing director for Coccolare Spa in Lafayette. With her busy schedule, Brittany finds it tough to balance her social life with her full work schedule and exercise routine.

“After work everyone is ready to go eat at a restaurant or want to hangout somewhere, but I have to either say no or I’ll see everyone later. I have to hit the gym first.

Postponing my social life is the hardest part about staying fit,” she revealed

HARLEY WILTZ Harley Wiltz is in his last semester of college and has already established himself in the fitness industry.

When a curriculum credit error caused him to miss a year of playing baseball at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Harley decided to take advantage of the opportunity to finally pursue his passion and became a certified personal trainer.

Not only did he quickly move up the ranks to Master Trainer at LA Fitness in Baton Rouge, he also started his own fitness clothing line called ABA Fitness.

Growing up, he was immediately bitten by the fitness bug when he began lifting weights with his dad on Saturdays. Years later he decided to compete alongside his sister and mother.

He said that the foods you eat are what make the biggest difference on anyone’s fitness journey. “Nutrition has to be a major focus. You cannot work out a bad diet. They go hand in hand.”

A Resolution Revolution Self-fulfillment in the new year

By James Eckhoff, MS, NCC, LPC, LAC Using his Hierarchy of Needs that was meant to help people achieve this self-actualization, Maslow pointedly laid out what it takes to be a happy and self-fulfilled individual.

Do resolutions work?

Per a recent study at the University of Scranton, only about 8 percent of people are successful in achieving their resolutions. Why do we keep doing the same silly process if 92 percent of the time it doesn’t even work? Because we want to be happier and to make the next year the best it possibly can be, right?

How can we better achieve this goal and make it a lasting change, rather than just lasting until February? Abraham Maslow, a humanistic psychologist in the early 40s may have had an answer: self-actualization.

Surviving does not mean satisfaction All we need to survive is to meet our physiological needs, such as eating, drinking and breathing. However, surviving does not mean satisfaction.

As we move up our hierarchies, by meeting our safety and security needs, love and belongingness, and so on, happiness and satisfaction with our lives increases tremendously.

Once we reach the point of meeting our esteem needs such as self-esteem and respect, cognitive needs such as knowledge and curiosity, and aesthetic needs of appreciation for the beauty of the world, our satisfaction levels are exponentially higher than simply surviving.

So, what is the end goal? By achieving self-actualization, we can realize our potentials, get the motivation to keep seeking personal growth, and experience genuine self-fulfillment in the moment.

Doesn’t self-actualization sound better than just losing a few pounds next year?

THE ELDOA New Year, New Movement

By Brandon Alleman, BrandonJAllemanhhp.com The ELDOA by definition, based on the work of Guy Voyer, are postural exercises that can be done yourself. The primary goal is to increase the space within a chosen articulation (joint).

As the ELDOA “create” space, there is an improvement in joint mechanics, improved blood flow and reduced pressure on spinal discs in addition to better muscle tone, improved posture, reduction of pain, and an overall improved sense of well-being and body awareness.

The few goals of the ELDOA include: • To create more space between the vertebrae and the intervertebral disc. This improves movement freedom and adaptation to the forces of the spine.

• To decompress the nerve between the vertebrae.

• To improve proprioception of the Functional Spinal Unit (FSU).

•To strengthen the postural system. The ELDOA mobilize the intrinsic muscles and improve kinesthetic stimulation (microstimulation) of the muscle.

Seasonal treats the whole family will love

3 tablespoons butter 3-ounce package cherry gelatin 10-ounce package miniature marshmallows 6 cups rice cereal 3 ounces white chocolate 3 ounces semisweet chocolate Yellow, gold or silver decorating icing Melt butter in large saucepan on low heat. Add dry gelatin mix; stir 2 minutes until completely dissolved.

Add marshmallows; cook and stir until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended. Remove from heat.

Add cereal; mix well. Press cereal mixture into a 13x9-inch pan, sprayed with cooking spray. Cool completely. Cut into 12 pieces.

Melt chocolates, separately, as directed on packages.

Pour each chocolate into separate resealable plastic bags.

Use, along with the decorating icing, to decorate the treats to resemble Santa’s coat, as shown in the photo. Now go

DECORATION 48 small pretzels for antlers 24 Nilla Wafers for muzzles 24 Red M&M’s for Rudolph noses 48 candy eyes

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line pans with cupcake liners.

Mix cake mix according to directions, and fill cupcake liners ¾ full. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until done. Let cool.

Cover each cupcake with chocolate frosting.

Place Nilla Wafers on cupcakes, then place the pretzels directly above the wafer. Use a little frosting to stick the two candy eyes onto the pretzels and also for the M&M to stick onto the Nilla Wafer as the nose.

Viola! You’re Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer cupcake is complete! This recipe yields 24 cupcakes.

If you’ve even wandered down the collar isle at any pet store you were probably overwhelmed by the endless options that exist for dogs these days. Aside from a variety of sizes and fashions, many functional types of collars exist now. But which is best for your dog will depend equally on their disposition and training needs and on the fit.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT TYPE Simple Collar - Recommended with a pinch release plastic or metal snap closure versus a belt buckle style closure for quick, emergency release. This style collar is ideal for obedient, easygoing dogs.

Halter Collar - Also known as a Gentle Leader; controls dog’s head to prevent excessive pulling.

Martingale Collar - Prevents dogs from escaping by allowing the dog to wear a comfortably loose collar that is only tight when it needs to be tight. Ideal for dogs in training and especially dogs with longer necks and slim heads like greyhounds.

Consider a wider band to reduce pressure on the neck.

Harness - Relieves the pressure from pulling; ideal for toy breed and small dogs and especially brachycephalic or flat faced dogs like Bulldogs, Pugs, Shih Tzus, etc.

Slip Lead- These leash and collar combos allow for quick correction when leash training.

The BEST Fit Measure the Neck - Use a cloth measuring tape and compare to the collar label. Many collars have breed recommendations, but in my experience this reference is often inaccurate as sizes amongst breeds vary significantly. An exact measurement will be your best guide.

igh school football in Acadiana is special. The gridiron provides beautiful backdrops for memories that last a lifetime. From newer, state-of-the-art stadiums to those that have stood the test of time, our home teams compete in the unique arenas.

Celebrating 50 Years of Saints Football Drew Brees Rewriting Record Books in Becoming All-Time Great QB

By Brandon Comeaux When you think of the New Orleans Saints, which name pops up in your head? A few of you may think of players like Archie Manning and Rickey Jackson or coaches like Sean Payton and Jim Mora.

However, chances are you think of Drew Brees.

He’s become the face of the franchise, a fearless leader whose determination on the field and character off it have made him widely beloved.

As 337 magazine remembers 50 years of Saints football, we look at some of the most notable accomplishments of the Black and Gold’s best player during that time: Drew Brees.

The History of Gumbo

Gumbo was the first mascot of the New Orleans Saints. He was a real live St. Bernard dog given to the newlyformed franchise as a gift from the Louisiana Restaurant Association in 1967. He could be seen roaming the sidelines during Saints home games.

Today, Gumbo is a person dressed up as a Saint Bernard wearing a 00 Saints jersey. He can be seen hanging out by the goalposts at Saints home games and celebrating with the players at times.

Currently, the NFL’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns (539) and passing yards (71,940) is Peyton Manning. Will Brees eventually break those records as well be on his way to the NFL Hall of Fame?

n South Louisiana, most people of a certain age have fond memories of spending their summer family vacations at the beach, be it Pensacola, Fla. or Bay St. Louis, Miss. or anywhere in between. The Guillory sisters from Eunice, La. are no different.

For years, Lori Parker, Melanie Savell and Kelly Stringer have vacationed at the beach with their families. That was until last year when they decided to break tradition and purchase their very own getaway on Indian Creek.

Named “Camp de Trois Soeurs,” the camp has become a place for all three families to enjoy throughout the year. There’s wakeboarding, water skiing and tubing in the summer, and hunting, campfires and camaraderie in the cooler months.

And while only 1 year old, holidays spent at Camp de Trois Soeurs are already becoming a special time for the three families to gather and enjoy each other’s company.

HARDWOOD HEADLINES The man with the hot hand, Antonio Blakeney, has been named to the 20 player watch list for 2017 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year. The sophomore was a 2016 member of the All-SEC Freshman Team where he averaged better than 18 points per game in the second half of the 2016 season.

In the two games against Florida and Mississippi State Blakeney scored over 30 points each. He also had 55 three-buckets and had a 97 percent free throw average over the same time period.

The award recipient will be named April 7, 2017 at the ESPN College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles. Best of Luck to Antonio!

The Tigers are present in the pros! Eight former LSU Tigers are on NBA opening rosters. This is the largest contingent of Tigers on pro teams at one time.

337: What brought you to this area? Is this your first time visiting Lafayette?

Morgan: Renee, the Director of Marketing at City Club. This is my third time. I came in and visited with the Dawg 97.3 on a radio tour and then came back and did a little show for them for Mardi Gras. So, this is our third time being here and our second time playing here. It’s fun!

337: What artists have inspired you, and what inspires you when writing your songs?

Morgan: Growing up [I was inspired by] Merle Haggard, George Strait, Keith Whitley and Mark Chesnutt, who influences my sound still today. It just depends on the day, honestly. It could be absolutely nothing, it could be just something that hits me driving, or something that I did that I’ve been sitting on for a while.

337: How does it feel to have your single “I Met a Girl” hit number one on the country charts?

337: What stands out about the people you’ve met in South Louisiana while touring?

Morgan: A lot more country, a little more redneck (like me), and I like that. Good ole’ folks.

Morgan: Keeping our nose to the grindstone. We just got the new album out. It’s called “Vinyl.” We’re going out on tour with Justin Moore and Lee Brice in the spring, and its already looking like a very promising 2017. We’re working, working, working.
