ARTSTEACH

ARTS San Antonio’s arts-education initiative ARTSTEACH is a community program that provides access to the arts for all ages through: Student workshop at Presa Street Community Center

• Hands-on workshops in elementary-school classrooms • Workshops that serve young persons in community centers and social-service agencies after school and during summer and winter breaks

• Performing-arts masterclasses with professional dancers and musicians for middle and high school students • Dedicated performances for student audiences • Hosted attendance at public performances for students and seniors

• Workshops at seniorliving facilities

Each year more than 10,000 students and seniors participate in our ARTSTEACH program with many young people having their first exposure to the arts.

Why is

?

ARTSTEACH important

• Our programs are aligned with teaching objectives and standards and are provided by professional artists with years of experience in teaching. • Incorporating arts education into the curriculum stimulates and develops the imagination and critical thinking, and refines cognitive and creative skills.

• Arts education has tremendous impact on the developmental growth of every child and has proven to help level the “learning field”across socio-economic boundaries. Student workshops at Presa Street Community Center

“If we don’t expose and enrich our children when they are young, when they’re little, it won’t happen. ARTS San Antonio gives that opportunity at the beginning at an early age for our children, and it’s critical that everyone values the arts. Because as the arts go, so goes society.” -James Miculka, Director of Fine Arts NISD, 2018

• Arts education nurtures important values, including team-building skills, respecting alternative viewpoints, and appreciating and being aware of different cultures and traditions. • Arts programs for seniors help retain and sharpen cognitive skills, provide social interaction and bring rich content to those who may have limited access to activities they previously enjoyed.
