Q: What is the difference? A: The difference is in the judging criteria. Figure-Muscularity with a separation in large muscle groups minus Striations. Judges are looking for nice symmetry full round muscle bellies, skin tone, nice tan. Looking confident on stage nice smile, charisma, make sure your makeup, and your hair are done right. You put a lot of time into your training, and diet, don’t get careless with the final touches. Bikini-Three Words “Glutes, Waist, Quads” This class is a lot about proportion, balance, and yes a tight, firm, curvy and feminine shape. I think this class can be won, or lost when the head judge says turn around and face the curtain. If your glutes are not firm, if they jiggle or sag, you are done! When you face front your shape should be like an hour glass and flow. Focus on nice shape, nice curves, good tone, and muscle maturity. Stage presence. Fitness-The criteria for fitness is totally different from figure and bikini. It is based on the 2 Physique / Swimsuit rounds being worth 2/3 of your total score. Each round is scored or judged separately. You will be judged on overall physique, for a degree of athleticism, proportion, and skin tone. Firmness and symmetry are huge in this class, as well as proportion and presentation. Some major points you should keep in mind are: Style, personality, coordination, and strength moves. In conclusion, always remember these tips for success: 1.Always bring your best condition to the show, regardless of what division you enter. 2.Make sure you know your body type, this makes it easier to choose what division you should enter, and not leave it to chance. 3.If your are serious about the sport, hire a trainer or coach, make sure your trainer or coach knows what they are doing. A good trainer should be able to direct you to the show and division you are best suited for. 4.When all else fails refer back to #1

et’s talk about vitamins and supplements. So many supplements and companies out there pushing their vitamins, and supplements out on the market, that most people don’t know what they should take, or for the most part how to take what they buy. You walk into any store that sells vitamins and supplements looking for that miracle pill or powder, because you say you don’t have time to work out, or eat like you should. You spend a ton of money on all kinds of supplements, shakes, fat burners, and head home and start to load up. You have your protein shake, your energy drink, your fat burner and amino acid, or maybe your shipment just came in that you ordered off that late night infomercial, you know the one that say take this pill, burn fat lose weight without going to the gym! Don’t act like im the only one who has seen this. Ok now that we have all that out the way let’s talk about all this. After reading all the article thus far, can you tell me what’s missing? Ok I’ll tell you. First of all the truth about all the vitamins, and supplements you just spent a week’s salary on. None of these vitamins or supplements will work like they’re designed to work without two main ingredients. You guessed it, a well-balanced nutritional plan, and a great workout plan. There is no substitute for hard work and exercise. Supplements, well that just what they are. They are designed to supplement your diet, help you through your workouts and help you get more of the nutrients needed that you would otherwise have to take in large amounts of food to get. Fat burners are to help aid in fat loss, not replace proper nutrition, so you skip meals. Stop looking for an easy route to a successful and healthy lifestyle, that’s right I said “lifestyle” because that’s what total fitness is, a lifestyle not a hobby. So stop looking for a shortcut, and start looking for the right way to stay fit and healthy. Remember there is no substitute for good health and nutrition. Get on and stay on a good eating plan, well balanced and with the right supplement regimen, be patient work hard and watch your body and life transform. Remember if it sounds too good to be true, then it most likely is.

oster child, football star, power lifting champion, top national bodybuilding and world champion, now pastor of Resurrection Cathedral for Christ. Gene Howell is a very strong and powerful person and man in many different ways. Growing up as a foster child in the 70’s and 80’s was a very difficult time.
Gene T. Howell became a born again Christian in April1980 and was called into the ministry in May 1998. A little more than a year later, he began as a pastor at Dula Chapel Church in November 1999. In 2001, Pastor Gene Hall was led to begin a non-denominational ministry to educate the body of Christ to the importance of living in deed a Christ like life. Since starting Resurrection Cathedral for Christ, different classes and groups have been started, such as new members’ class, Agape Women’s Ministry, Father and Son Day, Mother and Daughter Day, prayer line, food bank, “mop” Mothers of Powerful Prayer. Pastor Gene T. Howell has had a very accomplished, successful life with one of the most impressive athletic and fitness records. Pastor Howell has over twenty years as a competitive bodybuilder. Two time Mr. North Carolina, Teenage Mr. America runner up, Teenage Mr. USA Jr. Class, sth North American Championships, Bronze Medalist World Championships in Brisbane, Australia, and Silver Medalist World Championships in Hague, Australia. He was the world record holder drug free power lifting squat record 803 lbs. 220 lbs class. Total of 3 lifts world record 2002 lbs. Gene Howell has been doing personal training for over thirty-three years and has trained over 2,000 people, ranging from ages 12 to 80 years old. These clients range from tennis players, bodybuilders, amateur marathon runners. Now at age 53 years old Keep It Real Magazine was curious about Pastor Gene Howell’s thoughts and views on a few subjects so here’s how it went: KIR: If you could change one thing about your past football career, what would it be? Gene: I would have believed more in myself being a foster child in the 70’s and 80’s. We were not encouraged to attempt to succeed at anything. We were already written off in society as a statistic. Coincidently, even when I attended University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the strength coach for the football team was my Physical Ed instructor. He asked me to try out for the team, and I did not have enough confidence or understanding of who he was to accept. So I would personally encourage anyone who has a chance to never let it pass you by or let anyone discourage you from doing it.

KIR: If you could change anything about the bodybuilding and fitness industry, what would you change? Gene: There are so many changes occurring in this sport right now, an educated guess would not suffice such a question. Currently, attempts are being made to accept all levels of bodybuilding and fitness type physiques. My view involves the fact that in the late 80’s there was an effort to get bodybuilding accepted in the Olympics, which involved drug testing. I would love to see this effort reinstituted or a drug free division added to the NPC and IFBB, which would secure an expressive perspective to promote the true health of this type of sport. Testing is in every other sport, but not this one. KIR: How did weight training change your life? Gene: It gave me an avenue where I could express and exploit my own personal ability talent and genetics. Also, it allowed me to be able to help others achieve their own fitness and health goals, people of all ages, sports, and even physical limitations. KIR: Do you plan to or have a desire to return to the stage to compete? Gene: I plan and have and hopefully will in the very near future. KIR: What was your greatest memory after your third place finish at the Mr. Universe? Gene: It will always be my first time I competed in Australia. Also, meeting people and competitors from literally all over the world. To receive a bronze medal at the first World Championship, in which effort was made to promote bodybuilding being accepted in the Olympics. Spending a week on the beach in Australia wasn’t bad either.
