hether you want a new custom designed pool or a remodel of your existing pool, the options available today are endless. From traditional to freeform with waterfalls, rock formations, spill over spas, walk--in-beaches and swim-up bars, all are set in your own tropical paradise.
W
While most swimming pools are generally considered for enjoyment, exercise, a relaxing place on a hot summer day- they are also an excellent way to increase the value of your home. The "oohs and ahhs" of first seeing a pool in a backyard are typical for potential home buyers. Designs with a Purpose The first step in picking the right pool for your family is answering
an important question: Do you want a natural, tropical, classic or formal swimming pool design? For instance, classic formal architecture or extreme contemporary design would be best suited with a straight line pool. However, a tropical or natural look lends itself to free form pools that include enhancements such as boulders and waterfalls. Once you determine which type of pool you fancy, the next step is finding a pool contractor who can replicate your dream. Aesthetic Features While we all know what pools looked like in the past, it seems that the industry has skipped past the 21st century in terms of design and features. You can now renovate an older pool with glass tiles which give a fresh

face lift to the mundane white cement. All the new tile choices which are on the market allow for a splendid rainbow of colors which can have your pool looking like a scene from a Hollywood movie set. Totally Stunning! Or how about placing a lava rock bowl in your pool and using different lighting colors at night? In The End Apart from being a great place to cool your heels, swimming pools can also serve an entertainment center. Of course you can indulge in some or all of the latest trends which include fire features, special effect fountains, lazy rivers, and in-pool rock centers. You can turn any modest pool into a secluded delight, but first you need the pool!

andy Krug has spend 33 years building the most successful beauty salon, Classic Hair, in Tomball and she has done it with one simple principle. " God first, family second, and commitment to Classic Hair third. With a stringent work ethic and her business motto that "we care about you", Sandy has not only grown a successful business but is an active member of the Tomball community - a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and chairwoman for the Miss Tomball Pageant. As a teenager from a transient family, Sandy married her teenage sweetheart Gene and the two moved into a small home in Tomball. Sandy, while raising four children, began work as professional hairdresser. After almost two decades of working, she and Gene took the leap and opened Classic Hair in 1984.
16
As the salon grew and prospered, they opened several other salons, but later sold all but their Tomball and Cypress location. Sandy handles all the daily operations of both salons, while Gene does all the administrative work. Sandy's employees are more like family than only hair-

dressers. At least 18 employees have worked at Classic Hair for a decade and four employees are headed for the twenty year mark. And it's not just the employees who have a long history with the salon. Some clients have been regulars for over 12 years. The future of Classic Hair is not stagnant. There is always room for growth "What can a person do their whole life and get paid for it and still love it?" Sandy said. "I've done this for almost 50 years and I love it like the very first day and it's a challenge, but it's also somthing that a person can do where you really touch people sometimes." Sandy's commitment not only to her salon, its employees and patrons, but to the community of Tomball makes her more than a successful business woman. She has mastered the art of making everyone she touches feel special and in doing so helped make Tomball a warm and loving place to put down roots.

Going Barefoot The Rite of Summer ONE DAY, researchers will blast the airwaves with bulletins that people who go barefoot during the summer die younger or live longer, or have fresher breathe, or have less or more depressions, or tend to lose weight easier. No matter what they find, it isn't anything to curl your toes over. Baring the feet at the first hint of summer warmth is as natural as the blooming of spring flowers. It is an addiction that is learned in childhood and no matter what anyone says, when summer comes, shoes are left behind. The first steps are always a little dicey. Parking lots are hot and gravel hurts and in the grass little sticker burrs are hiding in wait for soft tender feet. But over days the skin thickens, and within a few weeks we are ready for hot sand and pebbled concrete. For all the great childhood memories and fun days running barefoot on the sand of a beach, in the city there are real dangers to bare feet. From chemicals on the grass, to rusty nails hiding in small places and bugs that sting - it might be best to curb your time shoe-less, especially diabetics who are more prone to foot injuries. They tend to have limited sensation in their feet and may unwittingly step on hot surfaces or sharp objects. But for many people, the joy of feeling the cool grass underfoot may outweigh most of the bad consequences. Not everyone wants to shed their shoes because it's summer, but because it is summer, you have the choice to wear shoes or go barefoot and that is a cherished freedom.

Late Summer Produce Don't you hate it when you realize that another spring has come and gone and you haven't gotten one vegetable in the ground for even a small garden? Don't be overwhelmed by an arbitrary date when planting a garden in our area. We have a ton of warm days left to grow a great garden even after Memorial Day.
In fact, June and July may be two of the best months for planting. While it is true that fruiting plants like tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant need to be set out already, you can still plant

Is your insurance policy ready for hurricane season?
W
ith the recent floods our area experienced in April, all eyes are on what’s going to happen this hurricane season. The Weather Channel and Weather Underground are now forecasting the 2016 hurricane season to be the most active we’ve seen since 2012, with a total of 14 named storms, 8 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes. With the recent catastrophic flood and the impending hurricane season, it’s strongly recommended that you dust off your homeowner’s policy to make sure your coverage is adequate for the pending storms. The first thing to check is whether or not you have wind, hail, and tropical cyclone coverage on your policy. Many times, companies will reduce premiums by providing exclusions for these coverages. If that coverage is on your policy, make sure you understand your deductibles. Typi-
26
cally, the deductibles will be a percentage of the dwelling coverage on your policy. Knowing this deductible can help you and your family ensure that you’re capable of protecting and repairing you home should the storms cause damage. Another checkpoint in your coverage is whether or not you’ve got flood insurance. Flood insurance is never covered on a homeowner’s policy, and must be obtained from an insurance company who is able to write policies through FEMA. The policies will cover you for rising water and wind-driven rain damage. These policies are yearlong policies, and can range from the low $200’s to the high $2,000’s depending on your flood zone and elevation. It’s important to contact a reputable agent who can provide the most accurate rating for this policy. Also keep in mind that Flood policies come with a standard 30 day waiting period from FEMA

before the coverage goes into effect. Hurricane season can be an unnerving time for all of us. At our agency, we want it to be a little less stressful for everyone in our area. If you have any questions about your current coverage, regardless of if you’re an Allstate customer or not, feel free to talk to us! We will conduct a full policy review of your coverage and help you identify any gaps in your coverage, and provide a flood quote to help prepare you for possible storms. We also have free hurricane preparedness kits for any of the Tomball/ Cypress residents who want to make sure they’re ready for this hurricane season. So stop by our office soon and let’s have a chat about how to make sure you’re ready for anything that could happen! Our office is located at 17521 Telge Road Suite A, Cypress, Texas 77429, or you can call us anytime at (281) 290-7245.
