Designer Purse Bingo Held to Help a Teen with Her Medical Bills Lexxis Maloney-Barnes isn’t your average 15-year-old girl.

She was born with PFFD which means one of her legs is shorter than the other one.

On Sunday night, Lexxis’ family, friends and supporters came together for the the Second Annual “Designer Purse Bingo”.

“We’ve done benefits and softball tournaments and stuff, so, we kind of try to do what is popular at the time because that’ll help bring in more people,” said Lexxis Barnes. In addition to playing bingo, people were also able to enter into a 50/50 raffle and a Chinese auction.

All of the proceeds from “Designer Purse Bingo” go towards Lexxis’ medical bills. “It’s all done in Baltimore, Maryland so it’s very expensive travel,” said Joshua Barnes. Josh Barnes is Lexxi’s dad. “It’s amazing to see how many people have donated, give stuff for free, spend their time here,” said Barnes. Lexxis says bingo nights does more for her than just help pay medical expenses. “Obviously with the bills and emotionally, like no matter what you have all these people here,” said Lexxis. As Lexxis’ next surgery comes around, she says she’s hoping it’ll be the last one she needs. (IG)

Tarantula Burger Served in North Carolina Burger Joint

During the month of April, Bull City Burger and Brewery was celebrating Exotic Meat Month by featuring burgers made with everything from alligator to iguana, python, bison, turtle and insects.

For $30, customers could get a 100% pasture raised beef burger topped with Gruyère cheese, chili sauce and an oven-roasted tarantula. If they managed to finish their plate, the restaurant was awarding them with a T-shirt to immortalize their eightlegged meal.

Unfortunately, not anybody could just order a tarantula burger.

Since the restaurant had only 18 zebra tarantulas, the customers had to win a raffle first and get a date on which they had have a to eatNUGGET their burger.

Spring has definitely sprung amongst you all! We are so happy to see all of the friendly faces when we pop by for bingo customer pictures. In this issue you will find some really hard hitting topics like mental health, some serious self-care for the moms and anyone who just needs to treat yourself. Treat your mama to a Mother’s Day at the bingo. Don’t forget to take a selfie with her so you can be featured in The June Issue of The Bingo Nugget.

Welcome spring, welcome pennybirds!

Pennybirds are quick bingo games that are played one hour before the first session starts. The prizes for winning pennybirds are different kinds of computers. One card will cost you only a penny (hence the name), but there are two rules: First, you must buy into the bingo game of the day to play. Paper or computer, it does not matter.

Second, you must buy at least 25 cents worth of pennybirds at a time.

Once these two rules are satisfied, you can purchase as many pennybirds as you like. Games are played for 30 minutes and we try to play as many as we can!

Our customers seem to love these quick games since they are a cheap way to get more computers that day.

If you want to try them for yourself, look for them in the following halls in San Antonio: Golden Bingo, Grissom Bingo, Jackpot Bingo, Lucky Bingo, Megabucks Bingo, Plaza Bingo, Power Bingo and Southeast Bingo. In Austin, North Austin Bingo will play pennybirds every day.

I’m a lover of all cuisines; and when I think of comfort food, only one thing continuously comes to mind – Indian cuisine. I grew up next door to a lovely Indian family who quickly became like my second family. Their family came from the Northern Indian region which is quite different from the Southern Indian taste. Why is this important? Because Tarka does a wonderful job at marrying the two regions.

We began our meal with my forever favorite – Samosa Chaat – little puff pastries filled with onions, chickpeas, green peas, potatoes. It was served with raita, chutneys, and roti crisps.

We made an order of garlic naan, leavened flatbread coated with garlic & basil (think of a very flavorful tortilla) and roti – unleavened whole wheat bread. All meals are served almost family style with extra large portions and with basmati rice. We split vindaloo curry, with vegetables, onion and tomato sauce, bell peppers and potatoes that swam in a beautiful broth of curry. We also went for a channa masala, my ultimate favorite of chickpea curry with sautéed onions, tomatoes, garlic, and ginger. You can choose the heat preference, we like it spicy. You can cool off with a readily available mango lassi, a wonderfully thick yogurt and mango pureed drink or their house famous mango lemonade.

You cannot go wrong at Tarka. It’s located near Jackpot and Power Bingo.

If you want to make it through your time as a mom and actually enjoy yourself, you have to start taking care of number one.

As the instructions state when preparing for takeoff, make sure you put on your own oxygen mask first before you help the child next to you. In translation: Mother’s Day is the perfect excuse to make yourself a priority, practice self-love and recharge your depleted batteries. Here are 5 ideas to treat yourself at home this Mother’s Day.

Sleep In Mama For many moms, constant sleep deprivation is a standard feature of motherhood -just like blouses stained with spit-up and Cheerios crumbs in every purse. “Mothers really underestimate the importance of getting enough sleep,” says Jodi A. Baking Soda Shampoo Have you taken the time to look at the ingredients in your shampoo? Regular shampoos contain many harmful ingredients such as Sodium Lauryl, Laureth Sulfate, DEA/Diethanolamine, Parabens and Fragrance, these ingredients can be found in pesticides, engine degreasers, floor cleaners and antifreeze! This DIY baking soda shampoo and vinegar rinse is an alternative to those shampoos carrying harmful chemicals, it will leave your hair with more body, volume, and strength!

Ingredients Needed: • Baking Soda • Apple Cider Vinegar • 2 Empty Water Bottles/ Sports Bottles (the ones you squeeze) • Natural Fragrance • Shower Cap

1. Begin by marking the empty water bottles in 5 equal sections from the bottom up with a permanent marker. You will use these lines to indicate the amount of Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar to use.

2. Label one bottle “Shampoo” and the other bottle “Vinegar Rinse” once labeled, add baking soda to the first line from the bottom of the shampoo bottle and apple cider vinegar to the first line from the bottom of the vinegar rinse.

3. Fill the shampoo bottle with water to the top line and fill the vinegar bottle with water just under the bottles rim. * 1 part baking soda with 3 parts water “shampoo bottle” * 1 part apple cider vinegar with 4 parts water “vinegar rinse” 4. To minimize the vinegar smell you can add a natural fragrance to the vinegar rinse, I chose to add about 15 drops of lavender (you can adjust drops according to the strength of desired natural fragrance).

* KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED THROUGHOUT THE SHAMPOO AND RINSING PROCESS 5. When you are in the shower always make sure to mix the shampoo bottle (the baking soda will settle at the bottom after each use) before applying to dry hair. Tilt your head back, apply to the roots and work your way to the ends, once your hair is completely saturated you can place it in a shower cap for about 3 min while you finish your usual routine. * It will take some adjusting to the lack of shampoo lather, but the results will be worth it!

6. Rinse with warm water and apply the vinegar rinse the same way. Once applied, wait a few seconds and rinse your hair with cold water to help seal in the moisture, smooth your hair and add shine!

CYCLONE ANAYA’S I am likely Cyclone Anayas biggest fan. I used to frequent the Rice Village and City Centre locations in Houston. When I saw they were opening a location in the domain, I have been waiting longingly for months!

I did make a reservation on Open Table as was suggested on Facebook. We were seated 5 min before our reservation time.

My expectations were very high.

The food did not disappoint.

I got the ceviche, guacamole, fish tacos and beef fajita tacos.

Ok, I shared with my boyfriend BUT everything was good.

Frozen paloma was dangerous.

Atomosphere was welcoming.

I will be back! So glad this is a new addition to the Domain.

The service was good.

I hope people give them a chance and not allow a “soft opening” where they are offering free food (w/donations) to dictate your entire experience. Yes, you are going to wait on the opening night and probably for a few weeks until the hype dies down.

( you may have heard it referred to as mini games, early penny birds, penny earlies ) Pennybirds are quick bingo games that the Golden Bingo Family is testing out in some of their halls.

Pennybirds are played one hour before the first session starts. One paper will cost you only a penny (hence the name), but there are two rules: 1.) First, you must buy into the bingo game of the day to play. Paper or computer, it does not matter.

2.) Second, you must buy at least 25 cents worth of pennybirds at a time.
