LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Happy Spring to all of you!

In my last letter I briefly referenced the non-annexation agreement that Timberwood Park has with the City of San Antonio that extends to December 30, 2033. As you may have seen during the last Texas legislative session, Senate Bill 6, which allows residents of areas up for possible annexation by Texas cities to hold a referendum and vote on whether the annexation can go through, was signed into law. One of our residents reached out to our State Representative Lyle Larson to clarify whether or not this new law only covers new attempts by cities trying to annex new areas. (Basically, does our annexation agreement somehow prohibit Timberwood residents from having the right to vote when our non-annexation agreement ends.) Rep. Larson stated in an e-mail reply that as long as the annexation law is not changed before the end of the nonannexation agreement, we should have the opportunity to vote. This is definitely something to keep an eye on as it can have a significant impact our community in the future. Another thing I’d like to pass along a request and reminder that if you have any type of addition, improvement, expansion, or other type of project that affects the outside of your home, please be sure to submit your project information and get approval from the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). The intent of this effort is to simply ensure that the neighborhood’s architectural guidelines are followed. For more information on the required forms and submission procedures, please see the article later in this newsletter. Thanks again to Terri Edwards and the Landscape Committee who continue diligently working through their park landscaping plan. The Memorial Tree Program that they developed is off to a good start, and we have some nice-size trees as a result of it that are also a really nice remembrance of to family members and friends of Timberwood residents. Also the decades-old red tip photinia bushes by the sports courts, all of which were dead or dying and looked terrible, have been removed and replaced with new landscaping. And the long-awaited clubhouse proposed design is so close! At the time of this writing the floor plan and exterior elevations, including a color rendering, have taken shape, and we’re now moving to the bidding stage so that we can finally get a good cost estimate. All of this information will be presented to the community for consideration and for voting very soon. My fellow Board members and I thank you for your patience, and we hope you will be pleased with all that we are proposing. Thank you for your time, and I’ll see you around the neighborhood! TPOA Memorial Tree Program The Memorial Tree Program lets you remember a loved one in a very special way by planting a tree in his or her honor at Timberwood Park recreational area. Your loved one will not only be remembered, but you will be helping your community at the same time.

Get Your Project Approved BEFORE You Start! There is a saying, “Sometimes it is easier to beg for forgiveness than to get permission.” While that works many times, it definitely is not the smartest approach when referring to ACC (Architectural Control Committee) approval for your home improvement projects. For many projects, a permit from the city of San Antonio may also be required, depending on the type of improvement. The deed restrictions for every unit in Timberwood Park require that any exterior home improvement project be first approved by the ACC. This includes but is not limited to new homes, fences, pools, solar panels, sheds, driveway additions, painting, etc. Unfortunately some residents build the projects first, only to find out that they have done something that is not permitted per the deed restrictions or improvement guidelines. Many of these projects have to be altered, or removed at the owner’s expense. It is important to know, if you start a project without prior approval; you immediately are in violation and could face monetary fines. You can submit a project request through Spectrum, and they will assist in making sure that you have all the information required to submit your project for review. You can also view the project requests on line on the Spectrum website at http://www.spectumam.com/. Please make sure to get your project approved before you start so you can avoid any issues in the future.

You will work with the TWP personnel in selecting a species of tree and an acceptable location site where the tree will be planted. Trees will be 45 gallon sized and planted professionally. Things to be considered will be • Proper growing space available for newly planted tree in the park • Species diversity Suggested list includes Mexican White Oak (aka Monterrey Oak), Chinkapin Oak, Shumark Red Oak, Live Oak, Cedar Elm, Mexican or Texas Sycamore, Arizona or Bald Cypress, Lacey Oak, Big tooth Maple, Bur Oak. All of these are recommended for Bexar County soil and weather conditions. Memorial trees will then be planted at the next desirable planting time (early fall or early spring) and maintained by the maintenance personnel at park. Once the tree is planted, the donor will be notified of the location of the tree and will be recognized at next scheduled TPOA Board meeting with mention in the Timberwood News. In addition, you and your family will receive a complimentary family pass for the upcoming swimming season at TWP pool. Timberwood Park Tiburones Summer Swim Team Registration Is Now Open! It’s time to sign your swimmer up for another fun-filled season! We have a new website with online registration this year. Registration is now open for returning swimmers. Registrations for new swimmers will be accepted on March 30st and if there are still spots available registration for non-Timberwood Park residents (non-TPPOA) will be accepted beginning April 9th. First practice will be May 7th.

Clubhouse! Meet the Coaches, meet the Swim Board, meet other swimmers, purchase Team Spirit Gear and even register for the team if you haven’t already done so. D&J Sports will be on-site as well with TWP team swimsuits for boys and girls for sale (or you can visit D&J Sports on Blanco Rd, inside Loop 410 later). Eligibility: Swimmers must be between the ages of 5 and 18 and able to swim across a 25 yard pool without assistance. You are also required to purchase a TPOA pool membership for the swim season (TWP residents must be current on assessment fees).

Requirements: The 2018 registration fee is $125 per participant; each additional family member is $120. Credit card payment will be taken during the registration process. Registration will include a team t-shirt and swim cap for each swimmer. Additional expenses may include a team suit. Parents must volunteer for at least 2 meets during the season.

PARK INFORMATION, RULES AND REGULATIONS This park is reserved exclusively for the use and enjoyment of Timberwood Park residents and property owners and their guests. Residents must be present with guests. Park Hours â€“ 5:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Unsupervised youth under the age of 18 are not permitted in the park after sunset. 1. PARK ACCESS AND USAGE a. All residents and property owners must obtain a gate card from Spectrum Association Management, LP in order to enter the park area. Property owners may call Spectrum at 210-494-0659 or send them an e-mail at contact@ spectrumam to request a new card which will be mailed to the resident. Or, you may visit their office located at 17319 San Pedro Ave., Suite 318, San Antonio, TX 78232. (Office hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) If your card has been lost or stolen, please notify Spectrum and a new card will be issued. The card replacement fee is $20 per card. The gate card is issued for your use only; it is not to be used by any other party. If anyone is caught using your card, the card will be confiscated and you may lose your privileges to use the facilities. In addition, IF YOUR

TRAIL a. No motorized vehicles allowed on trail.

b. No roughhousing, shoving, fighting, profanity, or throwing pebbles or any inappropriate objects in the playground. c. Use the playground equipment properly. Failure to do so can result in serious injury. (For example, there shall be no standing, kneeling, or riding double on the swings; no walking or running up and down the slide; no climbing on top of the swing set or other playground structures.) d. No food or drink, and no glass containers are allowed inside the fenced playground area. e. Use caution as playground equipment may become dangerously hot during warm weather.

4. PETS a. Dogs must be on a leash and under control by their owners at all times. b. Owners are responsible for picking up after their dogs. c. Dogs are not permitted inside the fenced playground.

7. TENNIS AND BASKETALL COURTS a. No wheeled vehicles of any kind allowed on courts – this includes bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, roller blades, wagons, strollers, etc. b. Courts are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

a. The safety and enjoyment of the members of the community are of primary concern in the operation of our park. If all park users show courtesy and consideration for others in the use of the park, only a minimum of rules and guidelines should be needed.

e. Use of the clubhouse allows for playing pool, pingpong, using exercise room, sitting and socializing only.

b. Please help keep our park clean – dispose of all garbage in the proper receptacles.

c. Please use respect for other park patrons when playing music. Operation of any loudspeaker or sound amplifier is prohibited unless permitted by Park management. Please call the Park Office at 830-9803349 for information.

Timberwood Park property owners may reserve the Clubhouse for parties and other private events. Please call the Park Office at 830-980-3349 for information and reservations. Clubhouse rental includes the use of the tables and the barbecue pit directly adjacent to the clubhouse. The private use of the Clubhouse carries additional rules, which are in addition to these posted rules.

g. Kitchen facilities may not be used unless you have rented the clubhouse for a private party. h. Proper attire must be worn in order to enter the clubhouse. Persons not wearing shirts or shoes will not be allowed inside the clubhouse. i.

All other posted clubhouse rules must be followed, and additional rules for private use of the clubhouse will be presented in the rental agreement.

11. FITNESS CENTER

Please remember that the use of the park and its amenities is a privilege, and the Timberwood Park Owners Association reserves the right to revoke that privilege for any individual or family found to be maliciously or repeatedly violating park rules and regulations.

Spring Lawn Maintenance Tips As we now approach the Spring season, it's the right time for every homeowner to invest a little time and energy in making their yards look as nice as possible. Listed below are a few easy suggestions and reminders to help keep your yard weed-free and looking good for the entire Spring and Summer. • Lawns should be mostly grass and not mostly weeds or bare spots. There are several different types of grasses (Bermuda, St Augustine, Zoysia and Fescue) that are available depending on the amount of sun/shade your yard gets. Active growing weeds should be treated with a weed killing formula. There are broadleaf weed killers, crabgrass weed killers (don’t use these on St Augustine grass) and specialty weed killers such as for nutgrass. Applications of these will help keep the weeds in your yard under control. • It’s now time to treat your lawn with an application of pre-emergent weed prevention. It won't address the weeds you may have now, but will deter the dormant crabgrass that is ready to germinate. An economical bag of pre-emergent is available at most stores and you may find that one is enough to treat your yard. It is important that you apply this now. Additionally, you will want to put down pre-emergent again in the early fall. You will find that 2X per year is enough and will make a significant difference all year long. • A typical fertilizing schedule calls for four treatments per year in early and late Spring, Summer and Fall. Fertilizer will help your yard stay green and hardy all year. Fertilizers can also include weed (Spring application) and/or bug killing (Summer application) components. Fertilizers do not have to include harsh chemicals that are dangerous to animals and children. Check with your local nursery for organic remedies to common lawn pests and weeds. • Mow on a regular schedule which is generally once per week during the warm weather months. • Edge the drive, sidewalk, and curbside. Don’t let grass and weeds grow in the gaps in the sidewalk. Also, don’t forget the areas around the back fences, mailbox, utility boxes, and foundation. • Keep hedges and trees pruned regularly. Remember your grass needs 6-8 hours of sunlight to flourish. Remove the lower branches on your trees to let in the sunlight. • Keep planter beds and tree wells well defined and free of weeds or grass. • Obtain ACC approval for any landscape modifications from its original state.

Safety

There’s nothing like outdoor grilling. It’s one of the most popular ways to cook food. But, a grill placed too close to anything that can burn is a fire hazard. They can be very hot, causing burn injuries. Follow these simple tips and you will be on the way to safe grilling. SAFETY TIPS

KKK Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors.

KKK The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches. KKK Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area.

KKK Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill. KKK Never leave your grill unattended.

KKK Always make sure your gas grill lid is open before lighting it.

CHARCOAL GRILLS

KKK There are several ways to get the charcoal ready to use. Charcoal chimney starters allow you to start the charcoal using newspaper as a fuel. KKK If you use a starter fluid, use only charcoal starter fluid. Never add charcoal fluid or any other flammable liquids to the fire.

KKK Keep charcoal fluid out of the reach of children and away from heat sources.

Propane Grills

Check the gas tank hose for leaks before using it for the first time each year. Apply a light soap and water solution to the hose. A propane leak will release bubbles. If your grill has a gas leak, by smell or the soapy bubble test, and there is no flame, turn off both the gas tank and the grill. If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again. If the leak does not stop, call the fire department. If you smell gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call the fire department. Do not move the grill. If the flame goes out, turn the grill and gas off and wait at least 5 minutes before re-lighting it.

KKK There are also electric charcoal starters, which do not use fire. Be sure to use an extension cord for outdoor use.

KKK When you are finished grilling, let the coals completely cool before disposing in a metal container.

Grilled Salsa Verde Chicken INGREDIENTS: 1 jar salsa verde, divided 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil Juice of 1/2 a lime 2 cloves garlic, minced 1/2 tsp. chili powder 1/2 tsp. ground cumin 1 lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts 4 slices Monterey jack 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced 1/2 red onion, finely chopped 2 tbsp. freshly chopped cilantro Lime wedges, for serving

toss until fully coated in mixture. Let marinate for 20 minutes. 2. Preheat grill to medium-high, then add chicken and cook for 6 minutes. Flip chicken, brushing each breast with more salsa verde, and cook for another 6 minutes.

DIRECTIONS: 1. In a large bowl, whisk together ½ cup salsa verde, olive oil, lime juice, garlic, chili powder and cumin. (Reserve about ½ cup salsa verde for basting chicken and ½ cup for serving.) Add chicken and
