MJF Bridal

BRIDAL FASHION & ACCESORIES

T

o find a one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry that can tell a story within its delicate and handcrafted details can be a rare opportunity. However, Nancy Velasquez of MJF Bridal has made her artistic bridal accessories within reach of Valley brides, as well as brides from across the globe, so that their wedding day look will become a timeless masterpiece with the perfect accessory.

Designer Nancy’s childhood and young life was spent in Mexico attending a convent where she learned the trades of sewing and cross-stitching, a merchant-style craft that she carried with her over the next 20 years. What started as a simple project when she designed and created her own wedding jewelry has now turned into a widely popular online shop where brides of all styles and budgets can discover the hidden gem that was missing from their bridal look. A unique variety of pieces from bracelets and combs to hair jewelry and sashes, each piece is handcrafted to perfection using a combination of textures and delicate skills. Nancy brings in artesian trades from around the world to build her jewelry, such as tambour beading and somebana, a Japanese silk flower technique. Pair these with the finest silks and French laces, along with Nancy’s creative and artistic vision and her out of the box designs, and you have wedding day jewelry that will be cherished for years to come, surely becoming a family heirloom. MJF Bridal, short for MariaJuliet Feliciano, is happy to continue customizing jewelry pieces for brides and to see the jeweled and soft accessories bring out the bride’s beauty on her special day. There are no words to describe MJF Bridal, you must simply see for yourself and be drawn into the masterpieces fashioned just for you.

Quinta Mazatlan VENUE

H

idden in South McAllen lies the historic Quinta Mazatlan, a quaint adobe home surrounded by lush plants, charming birds, and hundreds of palm trees, where countless events from fundraisers to elegant weddings have been hosted.

First built in the 1930’s by Jason Chilton Matthews, Quinta Mazatlan was greatly influenced by the Spanish architecture of Mazatlan, Mexico, and was considered the “Crossroads of the Western Hemisphere”. Over the next 30 years, the Rio Grande Valley’s natural habitats became few; and a hurricane left the home in shambles. Thanks to the dedication of the next owners, Frank and Marilyn Schultz, Quinta Mazatlan was restored, with cantera patios and exotic plants planted throughout the property. In 1985, the adobe home was recognized by the Texas Historical Commission. The home was then purchased by the City of McAllen, expanding their mission of preserving natural habitats in the area. In 2006, Quinta Mazatlan opened its arms to the public and became a member of the World Birding Center. Since 2007, Quinta Mazatlan has hosted special events and become the dream location for brides and grooms who are looking for a unique venue to celebrate their nuptials. Today, Quinta Mazatlan continues to be a safe haven for native birds and butterflies. The historic landmark’s mission is the conservation of natural habitats and native vegetation, giving citizens the education needed to preserve the Valley’s natural elements. Quinta Mazatlan is a special oasis in urban McAllen and will continue to serve the Rio Grande Valley for any special occasion.

Hummingbird Springs Event Venue

VENUE

O

nce an agricultural site, Hummingbird Springs Event Venue now stands as an outdoor space where many brides and grooms come to say “I Do” in the butterfly gardens and amongst the fluttering hummingbirds. The original home where owners Cris Adame and her family reside today was originally built in 1928, and served as a boarding house for citrus investors from the North in the 1930s. After years of seeing the citrus agriculture grow in South Texas, the home was then acquired by Cris’ in-laws in 1964. It wasn’t until decades later, after the passing of Cris’ mother-in-law, that the idea for turning this natural and blooming land into a special event venue began in 2012. After hosting her daughter’s wedding at their home, the wedding planner got many inquiries about having their nuptials at the home as well. With the many requests, Cris began the necessary work on the family property and, in 2016, opened Hummingbird Springs Event Center, named in memory of her mother-in-law’ favorite bird. The soft Gulf breeze blowing through the open space, lush blooming gardens, and a soothing waterfall makes Hummingbird Springs Event Venue the perfect outdoor location for any special occasion. A cozy yet classy ambience, with an onsite house complete with a special bridal room and amenities, it is the place for any couple with a vision for their special day, and any vendor with the eye to make it a reality.

5th At The Reese VENUE

floors two three and four occupying office spaces, and the event venue on the top floor known as The 5th at the Reese. The restaurant itself specializes in Sicilian Italian cuisine, bringing to its guests farm to table food that will transport you to the Italian southern isles. The talented staff and excellent chef give only the best quality service, with guests coming back for more. The 5th at the Reese also invokes a friendly ambience the minute the elevator doors open to the bar, which serves as the foyer between both sides of the venue.

OWNER JO WAGNER

I

f you are ever looking for a new, romantic place to share an excellent meal with your loved one, you need look no further than historic downtown Harlingen where Colletti’s restaurant in The Reese building awaits you. Not only will you find Sicilianinspired dishes but a warm and inviting atmosphere, which is recreated in The 5th at the Reese, a top floor venue.

Whether you are looking to host your next business meeting, or an intimate, romantic wedding celebration, you can rest assure that The 5th will take care of every last detail for your special event. The atmosphere with its welcoming embrace comes directly from Jo herself, who has spent the majority of her career as a commercial plumbing contractor. Her work has taken her across the country and given her many successes, such as beating out two men to serve as the President of the PHCC national Association, as well as being the first woman on the PHCC Board in the organization’s 125 year history. Her travels, gracious presence, her connection to the people she has met, and the appreciation and respect she holds for technical workers is present in Colletti’s and The 5th at the Reese with its comforting meals and quality service. It comes with no surprise that Colletti’s has remained a Rio Grande Valley favorite for almost seven years, and The 5th on the Reese has become the “in demand” location for a bride and groom to say “I Do.”

The Reese building itself is a monumental gem that Owner Jo Wagner and her son, Todd Aune, were happy to bring to life. Originally built in 1927 as a major hotel, the building went into total disrepair caused by years of neglect. When The Reese was put up for auction, Todd saw a once in a lifetime opportunity and encouraged Jo to join him in bidding for this diamond in the rough. They succeeded, and in 2010 the building began a complete renovation, keeping only the original brick structure. All five floors were gutted and redone, The Reese finally opened for business in 2011, with Colletti’s sharing the first floor with several offices, PHOTOS BY CLAYTON WEST PHOTOGRAPHY

Imagine When You Say “I Do” Here.

The View at Pelican Station VENUE

I

n 1928 during the rise of the Rio Grande Railway, the pier where the Port Isabelestablished restaurant Pelican Station is located was rebuilt by the US Corps of Engineers to make a better delivery process when the Jetties were being constructed. Since then Port Isabel has grown into a fisherman’s center as well as a tourist destination. In 2003 Alfonso “Dirty Al” Salazar decided to turn his bait stand into his first seafood restaurant with his youngest son, a recent culinary graduate. Six years later the Salazar’s purchased the restaurant that is now Pelican Station, and now own seven distinguished and popular restaurants such as Dirty Al’s on South Padre Island and across the Rio Grande Valley. Pelican Station itself is a top choice due to its amazing view of the Laguna

Madre and the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway, as well as its casual and elegant atmosphere and straight from the ocean seafood dishes. Just outside the restaurant sits an old railroad car paying homage to Port Isabel’s industrial history. With the restaurant’s success with clients becoming regulars and hosting many special occasions, the Salazar’s opened a brand new event space right next door, ideally named The View at Pelican Station. A small and charming ballroom, The View gives guests a spectacular view of the bay waters glowing with sunset rays, providing an elegant backdrop to any celebration. A spectacular combination of picturesque views and sea-to-table culinary service, what could be a better setting for a night on the water?

f you have ever attended a wedding out of town, then you know the difficulty of reserving a room for overnight accommodations. If your guest list is significantly high, consider reserving a block of hotel rooms for a simple and easy reservation process. The number of rooms will be based on the number of out of town guests invited. If it is a large number, consider booking with two or three hotels in the same area.

Conveniently located less than a mile away from major hot spots, DoubleTree Suites by Hilton McAllen is the perfect choice for any wedding. Whatever your needs may be, our experienced Sales and Event Services Team is eager to help make your stay both comfortable and memorable. Upon check - in, you and your guests will be greeted with our warm signature DoubleTree Chocolate Chip Cookie, fresh from the oven!

Inquire about the best deals for those who book in the room block for your event. Some hotels offer a discount rate, a free room for you and your fiancé, or maybe no discount at all. Confirm the exact check-in and check-out times as they may affect when your guests will arrive. Depending on the times, your guests will know whether to check-in the day of or day before the wedding. Some hotels offer shuttle service with notice and complimentary breakfast, perfect convenience for your guests. One expense to look for is “attrition”, a penalty fee for unused and non-booked rooms. If you can’t avoid signing this clause, make sure your contract includes a provision with a deadline to adjust the room blocks. It will give enough time for guests to reserve, and you to make any final changes. Book a few months in advance to avoid unavailable rooms and inquire about suitable room rate fees. Remember to give the hotel staff a thank you note for their services and hospitality. Without them your guests would not have a warm and comfortable bed to curl up in after a long night of wedding festivities!

century, Casa de Palmas Renaissance Hotel is overflowing with rich history and stands proudly with welcoming arms. After the arrival of a new railroad in 1905, the city of McAllen began to develop as farming and agriculture started to bring business to the South Texas area. When 12,000 soldiers were sent in 1916 to the border to control damage and trouble bandits had caused, a rise in business occurred to accommodate the growing population. Thus, in 1918, the Casa De Palmas was built as homage to Spanish missions with a red-roof tile, solid bricks, and arched doorways.

luxurious stay fit for royalty, the magnificent site that is Casa de Palmas Renaissance Hotel has been an attraction for hospitable service in McAllen, Texas and the Rio Grande Valley for 100 years. Seeing the city grow throughout the 20th

Over the next several decades the hotel has seen many patrons, including big names such as Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. However, in 1973, the opulent hotel was devastated by a lightning strike fire; in turn, the hotel was rebuilt in the original style and continued to serve the evergrowing Rio Grande Valley. The full-service hotel features newly renovated guest rooms, on-site restaurant and bar, 24-hour state of the art fitness center, a stunning courtyard pool, and up to 6,500 square feet of event space. Once described as an elegant blend of Texas hospitality and Spanish accent, its endurance throughout McAllen’s history has proven Casa de Palmas Renaissance Hotel to be not only a success in our community, but a place where anyone can call “home.”

Santa Fe Steakhouse & Cantina

RESTAURANT

A

t some point in the wedding planning process, everyone looks up from their checklist in complete horror when they realize there’s a whole other event that has totally been overlooked . . . the Rehearsal Dinner. Possibly even more than weddings, pre-wedding events are flexible and can be thrown in at least a million different ways. The Santa Fe Steakhouse has years of experience planning rehearsal dinners ranging from 10 to 110 guests in size, so suffice it to say, with Santa Fe Steakhouse’s Event Specialists, you and your guests are sure to be wowed. The point of a rehearsal dinner is simple—your people are all in the same place, for maybe one of the only times in your life. Rehearsal dinners, when done well, can be a bright spot in the craziness a pre-wedding week often turns into—a precious few hours when you don’t have to juggle logistics or observe strict timelines. Most of the activities at a wedding reception like cake-cutting, first dances, and cocktail hour, are eschewed at rehearsal dinners. (Let’s be clear: You don’t need want to add those details to a rehearsal dinner.) However, one activity you may want to carry over is toasts. Hearing your friends and family offer toasts in an intimate, low- pressure setting, which Santa Fe Steakhouse can make incredibly lovely, turns the rehearsal dinner into the official start of your wedding festivities. The most traditional format of a rehearsal dinner looks like this: All the people who will attend your rehearsal (complete wedding party, officiant, immediate family, and all partners of these people) meet directly afterwards at the Santa Fe Steakhouse. Depending upon the number of people, they gather for an intimate meal in the Wine Room (up to 12), in the Rooftop Terrace (a midsize party of 25-50), or the Anasazi Room (up to 100). Wedding planning has a way of making everything seem complicated and stressful; the Rehearsal Dinner (capitalized) is certainly not immune. But take away the capitalization, and suddenly the meal doesn’t have to be. As long as you have the right event consultants on your team, anything is possible. At the Santa Fe Steakhouse, you can even reframe your “Rehearsal Dinner” into “a party we’re having for some of our favorite people in the world,” and proceed with a simple plan from there. At the Santa Fe Steakhouse, you will most certainly end up with a delightful event both you and your guests will love. Written by Susanna Maddrigal

I

n 2006 when fate brought me back to the Rio Grande Valley, I knew I wanted to do something different. The Valley was booming with new retail shops and dining, and I thought it would be wonderful to have a “little chocolate store” to make peoples day a little brighter. Little did I know that there was already a large Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (RMCF) following, allowing us to open two stores in two years. This business has become our life, and who can complain about work when you’re surrounded by CHOCOLATE! Wedding favors have been one of our fastest growing products and specialty birthday, baby shower, and baptismal favors are on the rise as well. We work closely with you or your wedding planner to create beautiful accents for your guest tables and sweet garnishes to a buffet or cake table. All wedding orders are handled, created, and delivered by the managers, Veronica and Patty.

INDIE IMAGE PHOTOGRAPHY

Our most popular wedding items include the Mini Bride and Groom apples, Bride and Groom strawberries, Dipped Marshmallow Skewers, boxed mini Truffles, dipped pretzel rods, boxed white Jordan Almonds, and regular chocolate dipped strawberries. Meet with Veronica in McAllen or Patty in Mercedes to share your ideas, and visions for your special day. We appreciate all our customers who support our small business and help make it a success!

The Benefits of an Event Planner

PLANNING GUIDE EXTRAS

T

he hard work that goes into creating a wedding celebration can be a tedious affair, with many vendors to contact and details to remember. This is where the need for wedding coordinators and designers has grown exponentially. To keep organized and to relieve the stress of planning her special day, a bride should consider hiring a wedding coordinator for the entire planning or just the Day Of, a beneficial service that comes with many perks.

A coordinator can help you keep within your budget and find you the best deals when contracting with a vendor.

Their designing skills can create your overall wedding day look, from colors to centerpiece designs.

They can schedule your appointments with the bridal boutique for your dress fittings and your cake tasting day with the baker.

Coordinators will take the lead with your wedding day by making sure all vendors arrive on time, all decor and place settings are complete, and you, your fiancé, and entire wedding party are on time, keeping your mind at ease for the day.

After the wedding, the coordinator can finalize payments with vendors and all belongings, such as your guest book, gifts, and dress, are taken back to your home.

As you can see, these are just some of the benefits of hiring a wedding coordinator and designer, for they serve as your guide, advisor, and miracle worker that can leave you free to enjoy celebrating your nuptials.

hose wedding is it? That is the first question photographers Edgar and Samantha Balleza ask their couples. It’s this respect and understanding of such a milestone event that has made their business, Indie Image Photography, become an overnight success. With over 10 years of experience behind the camera, Edgar helped trained his equally talented wife, Samantha, and together they began the journey of capturing heartwarming moments on a couple’s wedding day, forming a connection from the initial consultation to the day of, and beyond. Each couple in their eyes is special, and they customize to each couple to capture their personality and aesthetic so that 50 years later those couples can look back on their photos and be take back to that special day as if it just happened. Having worked across Texas and ready to venture further, Indie Image Photography reminds you that when choosing your photographer it’s not the camera, but rather the person and vision behind it.

igo Rodriguez, owner and photographer of The Pixel Studio, has become one of the Valley’s best photographers. As a man known for his friendly smile, cool, calm, and collective demeanor, he lets his work speak for himself. His care and professionalism for every one of his clients gives him an air of quality unlike any other. “Our photographs are simple, clean, artistic, and eye opening, always reflecting our clients personality.”

BRANDON LINALDI & RIGO RODRIGUEZ

Rigo Rodriguez’s fascination with photography stems from his early childhood when he remembers always carrying his father’s camera as a child. As time went on, his fascination turned into a career with videography and photography. He is well known in the community and media outlets for his TV and Radio productions. He entered the wedding photography business capturing moments for friends about to be married. Now five years later, weddings fascinate him. “I get to capture such special moments of couples embarking on their grand adventure together. “I am humbled and honored to be there to witness those special moments.”

His friendliness and easy to approach demeanor has allowed his business to flourish, expanding the business and bringing in his son, to continue to carry on the passion and legacy for the business. “Brandon brings a fresh perspective to the business.” This father/son duo grows with every picture they take. “The work speaks for itself” and with that he makes sure that it is not him that people praise, but the photographs captured. In the end, it is about those images captured that make The Pixel Studio worth choosing.

U

p and coming photographer Clayton West has found his niche behind the camera lens, alongside his wife and creative partner, Melissa, together they capture precious moments with a keen artistic touch.

CLAYTON & MELISSA WEST

Clayton discovered photography in an unconventional way, after starting a skateboard manufacturing business 6 years ago he was introduced to digital media and photography. In his youth he was known to carry around a Polaroid camera. Somewhere along the line between his new business and becoming his surfer daughter’s unofficial photographer, Clayton was encouraged by his stepfather to pursue photography, an art they had in common. This piqued his curiosity, and after admiring several other photographers, he knew he wanted to pursue this new venture outside of a studio. Clayton couldn’t help but compare photographers to surgeons – there are various kinds of specialties, it is a very intense profession, and it takes one chance and one shot to get it right. Once he stumbled upon the industry he discovered he liked the challenge that weddings bring.

A big romantic at heart, Clayton moved away from his previous business and focused on his photography career in 2015, bringing on his wife Melissa as his second-in-command. Using his keen eye to create unique shots filled with vivid colors and artistic style, Clayton can walk into a room, let his mind create an image, and capture it with his camera, an ability only natural talent can provide. Melissa maneuvers herself in a sleuth way to find candid moments, another talent that combines beautifully with Clayton and translates into some amazing teamwork. Let Clayton and Melissa capture the smiles and spirit you don’t want to forget from your wedding day!

Sixtum Pictures PHOTOGRAPHER

Texas native with a wanderlust spirit, Roman Madrigal of Sixtum Pictures is a photographer with many skills under his belt. As a kid in San Isidro, Roman grew up with nature as his companion, the perfect world for his imagination to grow and to give him a sense of discovery and magic, something he contributes to his photographic style. Even at the early age of seven, Roman had his hands on a video camera that he would use to make home movies with his siblings and friends. Years later when he graduated high school the budding visionary went on a life-changing road trip to California with friends, where he discovered a newfound freedom, a new perception of life, and picked up his first DSLR camera to capture the stunning landscapes. Taking in every moment and stunning view, Roman knew that these moments should not be missed, and that they can be captured with the shutter of a camera lens. The up-and-coming artist returned to the Rio Grande Valley and began working as a photographer for school and student athletics. This particular line of work honed his reflexes for the fast-paced environments of sporting events to capture amazing shots of these athletes in motion, and expanded his portfolio from middle school to high school, college and eventually pro sports with the RGVFC Toros. As his artistry and talent became recognizable many school parents soon came to Roman to photograph milestone life events for their families. It was in June of 2015 that Roman shot his first wedding, and he fell in love with being a part of these celebrations. The young photographer discovered just how many special moments pass in the blink of an eye in a single day, many a bride and groom will forget, which is why he loves to find those candid moments and capture those special connections that will be treasured for years to come. Today, Roman has done numerous weddings, as well as family and infant portraits, under his company Sixtum Pictures, while he continues to work across the Rio Grande Valley in the sports industry. His wide range of photography services gives him a connection to the people he sees through the camera lens, and what he sees outside, for he always shoots with both eyes open hoping to never miss an opportunity. First starting his career with a T3 camera and now with an artillery of some of the fastest lenses in the industry, Roman’s fluidity with technology and his ability to become invisible amongst the crowds has him invested in his profession, not just as a photographer but as a videographer and a short-film director with his brothers in Hollywood and under their marketing company Sixtum Firestarter. A love for adventure, life, and for living in the moment will continue to guide Roman Madrigal on his creative and professional journey.

MUSIC

T

he Starlight Music banner with its successful Quartet and Orchestra is a product of the combination of passion and vision of guitarist and musician Rafael Collado. The music aficionado, who hails from Mexico City and has been on the stage for over 10 years, sought to replicate the soul and vibe of the Austin live music scene in the Rio Grande Valley, including its unique synergy between a band and its audience, producing engaging performances. Using his infamous attention to detail and presentation, Collado outlined a fun but elegant concept that elevated popular music as an art-form. After finding a rotation of the finest musicians in the region, Starlight Quartet came together and found its sound in 2013. Performing at special events and various RGV staples such as Santa Fe Steakhouse, Cobbleheads, Bodega Tavern & Kitchen, and The Patio on Guerra, the success of Starlight Quartet led to the expansion into a new performance experience with the Starlight Orchestra, a larger ensemble enriched with percussions and lush female vocals. Thanks to Collado’s focus and passion, Starlight Quartet and Starlight Orchestra continue to bring music to life all across the Rio Grande Valley. “Our repertoire has been carefully curated in order to provide a unique show. We insist on playing the music that we love playing, hoping that our passion translates into a more fun and honest entertainment experience. The way we see it, there is a space and an audience for every type of band. Our goal has always been to offer something that is not being offered anywhere else; this allows us to not have to compete for your preference.” -Rafael Collado.

The Origins & History of Mariachi

M

guitarron Mexicano, and trumpet. Mexican tradition has also seen mariachis as part of a wedding parade where the musical group will walk and perform their songs alongside the bride and groom as they leave the church and walk through the town for their reception.

Bringing together imported folk traditions from Spain, Europe, Africa, and local Mexican customs helped create the unique sound that uses violin, guitar, vihuela,

In some traditions, mariachi was used as a means of communication for a young man to send a message to the woman who held his heart; which could be why the romantic and passionate lyrics of these ballads are the perfect musical accompaniment for wedding ceremonies and receptions. Today the mariachi stands as a vital and prominent custom not only for Hispanic weddings, but for the heart and country of Mexico.

ariachis have long been a tradition throughout Mexico and its people; everyone has at least one favorite song that moves the heart. It’s the passionate and spirited ballads that make mariachis a popular choice for entertainment at a wedding where love is celebrated from beginning to end. Although the origins of mariachi date back hundreds of years, the familiar violin melodies and strumming of a guitar that we know today date back to the nineteenth century in the Mexican state of Jalisco, according to legend.

TOP10WEDDING BUDGET TIPS

Once you’ve accepted his proposal, don’t spend a single dollar until you’ve figured out your wedding budget. Have a candid talk with anyone who might be contributing to politely find out how much each is willing to commit. Then add up the numbers for your total available amount, and set some guidelines for spending.

1

Figure out who’s contributing. Talk with your family members about who will pay for what. Some brides’ families stick with tradition and pick up most of the tab, but it’s more common nowadays for the bride’s family, the groom’s family, and the couple to all chip in together. However, in some cases a family member will commit to financing a certain part such as the cake, catering, or flowers.

2

Get organized. Depending on the date you’ve set for

the wedding, you’ll spend the next few months (or even years) allocating and keeping track of funds. Start by organizing your money details in a single place. Keep copies and file these items together: (1) photos and clippings of ideas and inspiration, so you can pull them out when you meet with vendors; (2) all vendors and their contact information; (3) copies of vendors’ proposals/estimates plus notes from your meetings with them; (4) copies of all vendor contracts; and, (5) all receipts for wedding expenses, so you can stay on top of your budget.

3

Set up a system. Money-management tricks can be

huge helpers. Place all your wedding money in its own separate bank account, so you can easily track deposits and withdrawals without mixing or confusing them with nonwedding-related expenditures. Don’t make the mistake of using your regular bank account and assuming you’ll be able to keep score.

4

Decide

your

priorities. Consider

all the possible categories of spending for your dream wedding: bridal gown and formal wear; ceremony site and officiant; invitations printing and addressing; postage; reception venue; transportation; rentals; food; beverages; cake; flowers; decorations; music; entertainment; photographer; videographer; honeymoon, and miscellaneous (Don’t omit that last one. See #8 and #9.) Pick the top three in importance to you, and allocate extra money for those. Then choose the three least important, and allocate a little less for them (or eliminate them altogether). As you check vendor prices for what you have in mind, be prepared to adjust upward or downward depending on what matters more to you and your fiancé. 1 5 2   CELEBRATES 15 YEARS • WWW.VALLEYWEDDINGPAGES.COM

5

Be crystal-clear about your budget. Specify your price

ranges to vendors from the very start. Being frank about your price point will eliminate surprises when the time comes to sign a contract.

6

Be flexible. Saturday nights are always more costly than other weekdays or times of day, particularly during “high wedding seasons” like June and July. Therefore, understand that the date and time you set for your event will affect your budget more than most other factors.

7

Utilize double-duty. By all means, take the ceremony

flowers along to the reception site, or arrange to share the cost (and design) of wedding decorations with the couple marrying directly before or after you that day. No one will know unless you tell them. To save on rental costs, borrow beautiful serving pieces and accessories, appointing a trusted friend or relative to be in charge of reception set-up and take-down. One of the ways you can personalize (and reduce the cost) of your wedding reception is to use familiar objects, including tablescapes and furniture pieces, from your own home as decorations. Think of what sets you and your groom apart from other couples; then capitalize on that hobby, activity, or personality trait in your décor.

8

Ask about hidden costs. Inquire up front about any other

costs such as taxes, service charges, and overtime fees, and make sure all written vendor estimates include those charges in the contract. Knowing all the possible expenses in advance will guarantee that your budget can cover them, saving possible embarrassment.

9

Don’t forget the extra costs. Accept the fact that unforeseen

expenditures are sure to arise. Small, easy-to-overlook details like marriage license fees, stamps for invitations and RSVP cards, ribbons for party favors, or candles for the dinner table can really add up. To be prepared, “pad” your expense sheet in a couple of different categories so that unexpected costs won’t derail your budget.

10

Plan to overspend. If you plan for unforeseen expenses beforehand, you won’t ever actually blow your budget. Earmark about five percent of your overall budget for unplanned costs which may be incurred through emergencies or additions. It’s always better to overestimate and underspend than the opposite.

WEDDING BUDGET WORKSHEET

Once you and your close supporters have decided upon a total amount to be spent, you’ll need to begin designating portions of your budget toward the various categories. Percentages shown are suggestions based on current trends; your own breakdown may vary considerably. Use

these figures as starting points, customizing expenditures based on your personal priorities. (NOTE: Some brides elect to calculate the budget separately from the cost of rings.)

12-MONTH PLANNING TIMELINE Many brides quickly become overwhelmed by the scores of details they must manage while planning their wedding. We’ve prepared this easy-to-follow checklist so that you can look forward to enjoying the entire process with as little stress as possible. Follow the timeline to stay ahead of the game!

12+ MONTHS BEFORE Announce your engagement! After telling your family and friends and updating your Facebook status, consider placing a newspaper announcement, creating a video, or mailing a “save the date” photocard, especially if you’re having a destination wedding. Protect your engagement ring. Have it appraised and insured.

Talk with parents and/or sponsors about financial assistance so you can begin determining the size and scope of your wedding.

Keep notes about everything. Assemble them and stay organized with this guide or your own binder.

Visit with your fiancé about colors, traditions, themes, designs, menus, music, and location ideas.

Create a budget and discuss in detail the sharing or division of expenses. (See p. 146)

Choose and set a date and time for the wedding. Keep in mind that Saturday nights are more costly than other weekdays or times. Consider graduation and prom dates as possible conflicts for vendors. The date and time you set for your wedding may have greater influence on cost than other factors.

1 5 4   CELEBRATES 15 YEARS • WWW.VALLEYWEDDINGPAGES.COM

Decide on the overall tone of your wedding (formal, semi-formal, informal, casual). This factor can have a major effect on your budget, too.

Select a wedding but recommended).

Start outlining an initial guest list. Each branch of the family should have input, with you and your fiancé giving final approval. Those who assist financially should have some sway.

Create your wedding’s web page. Visit various wedding-related sites to learn the best way to include your “how we met” story, photos, and periodic updates. You’ll eventually want to upload travel and hotel information, details about parties and the rehearsal dinner, gift selections and other information.

Start researching vendor options. (Your wedding planner will do most of the work.) Begin to reserve dates and sites for the various categories involved.

Get organized right away! Create a separate email folder (or a special email address) to hold all wedding-related communications and notes about your research.

9-11 MONTHS BEFORE

Decide on a house of worship or a civil ceremony site. Reserve the place for your date and plenty of time (two or more hours both before and after the ceremony). If your reception will be held at a secondary location, reserve that venue for the appropriate number of hours. (Remember these sites must be available for decorating beforehand and take-down afterward.)

If desired, consult a physical trainer who will design and lead your exercise program.

Begin shopping and accessories.

Begin selecting both attendants’ apparel.

If a priest, minister or rabbi is marrying you, be sure he/she understands the times you will need his/her attendance and services. If you plan a civil ceremony, choose and reserve an officiant.

Register with the bridal gift registry at your favorite stops (both online and brick-and-mortar stores).

Interview, select and reserve a photographer and/ or videographer. Schedule an engagement photo session as well as day-of photos at the wedding and reception venues.

Interview, select and reserve musicians for the wedding and/or reception.

Begin planning for change residences.

Based on your developing guest list, interview caterers and decide on a per-head price for the reception. Then begin thinking about the menu.

Visualize your bouquet and floral arrangements. Set up appointments with local florists to discuss options and pricing. (Ceremony flowers can often be transferred to reception tables.)

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, research lighting and rental establishments. Reserve enough tables, chairs, linens, and other accessories to accommodate your guests.

Decide on a honeymoon destination and consult a travel agent. (See related information on p. 179) Make flight, cruise, and/or hotel reservations.

Compile your combined guest list. Include first and last names, mailing addresses, email addresses (when possible), and phone numbers in a spreadsheet format. This will make addressing, mailing, and tracking attendance infinitely simpler. Select your bridal party including maid/matron of honor, bridesmaids, best man, groomsmen, ushers, flower girl and ring bearer based on the scope of your overall event, and secure their agreement to participate. Also consider supporting roles such as ceremony reader, candle lighter, vocalist, guestbook attendant, cake server, and so on. Keep a list with each participant’s full name, address, email, and phone number(s). Figure out the your invitations.

Normally blank stationery, they should be simple, elegant, and handwritten. Order a quantity of these when you order your save-thedates; the earlier the better. It is good etiquette to send a thank you note within 2 weeks of receiving a gift before the wedding, while a thank you note should be sent no later than one month after your honeymoon for gifts received the day of the wedding.

WHERE THE CAKE TAKES THE SLICE

Many different factors affect the price of your cake. SIZE

SPECIALTY DECORATING

Cake and confection prices are generally broken down into per serving costs, with a greater number of servings leading to an increase in the price.

Bows, draping, blown sugar, pulled sugar, gumpaste flowers, and paintings are a beautiful way to add personalized designs to your cake and are typically priced per design.

SHAPE

TOPPERS

Cakes come in a variety of shapes that may impact the cost: hearts, scalloped ovals, squares, hexagons, diamonds, and more!

Flowers, cake jewelry, figurines and fondant creations can coordinate with your theme and offer the ultimate in personalization.

FLAVORS

DELIVERY & SETUP

More traditional flavors like chocolate, white, yellow, and vanilla, cost less than the specialty liquor flavors such as rum

This is usually included if within a certain distance. Arranging flowers on the cake may or may not be a part of setup.

FILLINGS

RENTALS

Most fillings are included in the price of the cake, however specialty fillings such as cream cheese or ganache may cost extra, and the price of fresh fruit fillings may fluctuate seasonally.

Additional rentals affect the price and typically require a security deposit.

ANNIVERSARY TIER This may be included in the price. Sometimes bakers offer a fresh tier on your anniversary instead.

ICING Some bakers may charge more for some frostings than others based on their specialty. Choices usually include buttercream, chocolate buttercream, cream cheese, whipped frosting, fondant, flavored fondant, and rolled chocolate.

SIZE SHAPE

Choosing the best wedding cake depends on your own likes and dislikes, the wedding theme, and your budget. Once you’ve got some idea of the type of cake you’d like, you’ll need to work out how much money you have to spend on the cake. Be realistic and compare the prices of various cake vendors. Don’t rush this step – take time to compare and contrast the different styles and specialties provided by each baker. Be sure to give yourself plenty of planning time to get the dream cake you always wanted.

TAKE YOUR TIME SELECTING

Your ideal choice depends on your personal preferences, of course, as well as your wedding theme and your budget. Once you’ve formed an idea of the flavor(s) and shape, determine the size by comparing how many slices you’ll need to serve. (It’s better to overestimate slightly than to run short at the reception.) Be realistic about what you can spend on this one element of your entire wedding budget. Ask newlywed friends or your caterer for recommendations and compare the prices, styles and specialties of various cake vendors. Insist upon taste tests. Don’t rush this step. Give yourself plenty of time to select the baker who can best produce the dream cake you really want. WAYS TO SAVE

(1) Decide on one flavor for all the layers because varying flavors by layer will increase costs. (2) Order a smaller cake that’s exactly what you want plus several sheet cakes of the same flavor to be cut in the kitchen. (3) Stay away from complex tiers, special molded shapes, and lots of labor-intensive sugar flowers. (4) For the best of both frosting worlds, some bakers can roll out the fondant in a thin layer to create that sheer outer texture and still frost over with buttercream for taste.

CEREMONY LINE-UP

The processional and altar line-ups for formal Christian and Jewish weddings are illustrated below. Remember we are in the New Millennium and there is no right or wrong way to conduct your processional. A formal wedding may require a more standard type of line-up while a beach ceremony should be relaxed and casual.

TOP WEDDING CEREMONY TIPS Find someone to officiate whom you both love and admire, whether it’s your church pastor or a dear family friend. What’s most important is that you share a mutual respect for the person who leads you through your vows. If he or she can get to know you as a couple (through meetings or premarital counseling), that familiarity will foster a more personalized ceremony. Let both your families (and faiths) have a part From the beginning, listen to both sides’ expectations for your wedding day. It’s the bridal couple’s special day, but discussing choices with both families will encourage everyone to feel included. Plan ahead from the start. Though it’s not the most romantic detail, look into marriage license requirements in your area right away. Check the county clerk’s web site for guidelines, and set an appointment with your fiancé to pick up your license within two weeks of your wedding. You’ll need to bring the license to the ceremony and have the officiant sign it, then mail it back to the county clerk within 30 days. (Refer to p.168 for more legal details.) Have a printed program. Although it’s not required, a handout program is the ideal place to list your wedding party and close family members. You can also thank them and your guests in the program. Having an outdoor wedding? Guests can use programs as fans. Give guests a hint about your traditions. If special rituals or activities will be included in your ceremony, explain them to your guests through the printed program. Some guests may not understand what’s going on, so your handout will help them enjoy the experience.

The ceremony IS your wedding. For some couples, a family priest or church is the basis of the planning process. For others, the ceremony may be built around a beloved location, a favorite piece of music, or your own love story.

Schedule a rehearsal. Your officiant will probably suggest this, but do so yourself just in case. All wedding party members will feel more comfortable during the ceremony if they have had some practice. The officiant should be well-versed in showing everyone where to stand, when to walk, and when to sit. Do invite your officiant and his/her significant other. Treat your officiant and his or her spouse like guests by sending an invitation. Plan to seat them at your parents’ table or with another family member, especially if the person has known your family for a long time. Some officiants decline their invitation, but they will appreciate good manners, anyway. Honor VIPs. The wedding ceremony offers a lovely time to give special honor or recognition to family members or beloved guests. Both mothers might be invited to light a unity candle; close friends might be asked to give short readings; a favorite relative might be appointed to witness or be given honored seating. Determine seating beforehand.

In Christian ceremonies, the bride’s side is the left and the groom’s is the right, but the opposite is true for Jewish ceremonies. It’s your day, though, so you can either follow this tradition or simply have family fill in from the front with all others seated behind them as they arrive. Give ushers a helping hand.

Your ushers need to know where family members and special guests are supposed to sit. Do them (and yourselves) a favor by printing out a list of names to recognize with directions for seating. They can stow it in a pocket and refer to it as a cheat sheet when needed.

WRITING YOUR VOWS

Modern couples often elect to put a spin on the traditional “I do’s” by writing their own vows, using a favorite song, movie quote, or literary scene as inspiration. Even if you aren’t poets, you can still create your own brand of wedding promises. Do discuss the plan with your officiant, though, and allow time for the officiant to approve your lines in advance of the ceremony. Read on for tips on writing personalized wedding vows.

Talk it out. Make sure you and your fiancé see eyeto-eye. If one of you is more comfortable sticking to tradition, respect that. Adding personal touches to a ceremony can be done in many other ways. Consider logistics. If you agree to write your own vows, will you do it separately or work together? Will you share with each other or keep secret until the ceremony? (The formal wedding ceremony may not be best time to surprise your beloved.) Remember that similar writing styles will come across more smoothly than strikingly different wording. And be sure your officiant knows what you intend to say; he or she may ask faith-based questions or suggest something that makes your vows even more meaningful.

both of you will begin talking about the other, then about yourselves as a couple, followed by the actual recitation of vows. Find your voice. What overall tone do you hope to portray? Poetic, humorous, sentimental, touching, reminiscent, affectionate? You decide, but make sure you sound sincere and that what you say to each other has the ring of truth. Be brief. Don’t get carried away or tell an extended story. Decide on a length and both stick to it. Practicing out loud (not necessarily together) with a timer will help you stay brief and to the point. If you go over three minutes, you need to cut back.

Create an outline. Just like in English class, establish a framework or pattern. For instance, agree that

IDEAS FOR PERSONALIZING YOUR MARRIAGE VOWS

» » » » » »

Describe your fiancé’s best assets and why you cherish him as a life partner. Describe your commitment to and love for each other. Discuss your beliefs and feelings about pledging your life to one person. Discuss your future together, acknowledging how you and your fiancé complement each other’s goals. If either of you has children already, mention your mutual commitment to becoming a whole family. Acknowledge your family members and guests, mentioning how their presence is meaningful.

I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU

If you decide on having an interfaith or a civil ceremony for your wedding here are some wonderful questions to ask when choosing the wedding officiant.

THE WEDDING OFFICIANT

1.

How long have you been officiating?

You will want to know how many weddings this person has performed, especially weddings like yours. Verify that they have been in the business for a while and have a list of references for you to check.

2.

What are your credentials?

Ensure that the officiant is licensed or registered to perform a wedding in your state by contacting the city clerk. You can also ask the officiant which seminary he or she was ordained through, then contact that seminary. Years down the road, you wouldn’t want to discover that your marriage is not legal.

3.

How much do you charge?

Know what, exactly, you will be paying for. Talk about deposits and types of payment, as well as cancellation and refund policies. The wedding Officiant is the person who typically must fill out the wedding certificate and send it in, so it is good to confirm that your Officiant will do this as well.

your own vows and if he or she can help suggesting readings, music, and so on. Make sure you will be able to incorporate your cultural traditions and that there is a way to include children or parents in the ceremony or will allow Photography or Videography. Basically, ask about all the particulars that apply to your case.

5.

How often will we meet? Do you want an officiant who will consult with you or simply show up to perform the ceremony? Is he or she available by phone or e-mail if you have questions? Some members of the clergy require couples to have counseling before they will marry them. If that’s the case, make sure you are given a clear schedule that isn’t overwhelming.

6.

Do you charge extra to attend the rehearsal, reception or to travel?

Find out if the officiant is willing to travel to your venue. Also make sure that the officiant has a contingency plan in case he or she cannot make it. Be sure to plan for an extra meal if the officiant agrees to attend the reception.

4.

Can you give us the ceremony we want?

MAKING IT LEGAL! MARRIAGE LICENSE

CHECKLIST

Both you and your fiancé must apply in person together at the county clerk’s office (addresses below). You’ll both need a valid form of ID (driver’s license, birth certificate, passport, or military ID card) and Social Security number. Please note: All documents must be originals or certified copies of originals; expired documents will not be accepted. Call the office before visiting to verify details. There is a 72-hour waiting period immediately following the date the license is issued; your wedding ceremony must take place within 27 days after issuance of the marriage license. The license is valid for only 90 days; so, with the 72hour waiting period, only 27 days remain during which the marriage ceremony can take place. If either of you has been recently divorced, there is also a 90-day waiting period before another marriage can take place.

There is an $82.00 cash charge. Usually, only cash or cashier’s checks are accepted. Call first to inquire if personal checks or credit cards are accepted.

Either on the wedding date or shortly before, get your ceremony officiant’s signature on the license. After the ceremony, be sure to mail the signed license back to the same county clerk’s office within 90 days to avoid late fees.

The license fee varies from Texas county to county, so be sure to contact your county clerk’s office to find out the current fee, as well the accepted forms of payment,

If the couple has completed a certified marriage preparation course, they can receive a discount on the license, varied from Texas county to county.

NAME CHANGE

Order extra certified copies of your marriage certificate from the county clerk’s office to save time and frustration later. Many agencies (such as the department of motor vehicles, Social Security Administration, etc.) require an original certified copy before allowing you to change your name on official documents. Request a new Social Security card reflecting the name change. (If his name also changes, he’ll need a new one, as well.) Call the Social Security Administration (800-772-1213) or go online (www.ssa.gov) to obtain forms and instructions. Make an appointment to visit your local department of motor vehicles for a new driver’s license. (In Texas, visit https://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ to learn the nearest location.) Ask in advance which documents you’ll need to bring to the local office to verify your name change. If you already have a passport, obtain and complete a Passport Amendment/Validation Application. Send this to a passport agency along with appropriate fees, your current passport, and a certified copy of your marriage certificate verifying your name change US Postal Service offices offer passport application services. If necessary, do this for both of you. If you need to apply for a passport for the first time, visit https://www.usps.com/ passport/ or inquire at any U.S. post office. Send a certified copy of your marriage license to your insurance agency (life, health, auto, etc.) with a letter requesting that your name be changed on all their records. Order replacements for checks, business cards, credit cards, and other documents displaying your old name Notify all employers (and schools, if you are a student) to let them know of your new name, and ask them to change their records. They may require certified copies or other documents proving your marriage.

Change your name on your car registration, your mortgage company’s records, and your frequentflier program. Since you may be changing residences as well, notify all your personal and professional contacts of the change(s).

Contact the post office, your utility companies, and the county voter registrar to obtain documents necessary for effecting the name change (and address, if necessary) with those agencies.

Don’t forget other offices or places where your name change should be updated; think of your library card, video rental card, dry cleaners, health club, veterinarian, church, etc.

Congratulations! You’ve got a new name! You might want to carry a certified copy of your marriage license in your wallet or car’s glove compartment for the first year or so, in case you forgot something and need to provide proof of marriage.

MANAGING YOUR GIFT REGISTRY

Your family and friends will express their congratulations through bridal showers and wedding gifts, so it makes sense to think about what you’d truly like to receive. Without a registry, your friends will have to guess, and you could receive more things to return than to enjoy.

Decide what goes on your list. What’s your design style? You’ve just made a jillion selections about your ceremony and reception, so put that knowledge to work when thinking how you’ll craft your home.

How much do you like to cook? The stereotypical bachelor might not own a saucepan, making do instead with takeout and microwave meals. However, if either of you enjoys grilling, baking, and prepping for meals, give serious attention to quality cookware, utensils, small appliances and other kitchen accessories. Do you like to entertain? If not, you can keep it simple. How often will you need more than six place settings? However, if you love the idea of sit-down luncheons and dinner parties, perhaps you’ll want to pick distinct glassware for cocktails, martinis, beers and wines as well as detailed sets of dinnerware and fine china. What household items do we really need? If one of you is handy with tools, maybe you’ll want a lawnmower, a ladder, toolbox or power tools. Do you need a backyard grill or vacuum cleaner? A home office needs a paper shredder, computer. Furniture for at least one bedroom is standard, and that involves sheet sets, blankets, pillows, lamps, curtains and other décor. Will your home have both formal and informal eating areas? In addition to tables, chairs and dinnerware, think about lighting, storage, serving pieces, barware and linens.

What are our hobbies? If you both love watching movies, sign up for that big-screen TV or recording/ playback equipment. Wine lovers? Register for a wine-ofthe-month club so you can try new varieties. Play sports? Athletic equipment is fair game for your gift registry, too.

of china, for instance, can be bought as an individual piece rather than as an entire set. Open stock makes it easy to replace a chipped dinner plate or add more soup spoons. Another advantage is that you’ll have the pieces you really want and won’t waste space storing odd bits that don’t get used.

Choose the right retailers Just as you auditioned potential wedding vendors to choose the best ones, audition the top two or three retailers that carry your preferred items at reasonable prices. It’s helpful if the stores are located in multiple cities and states and offer online services. Consider these questions: What range of products does the store carry? Will they ship to addresses other than the buyer’s address? Will they ship in batches to save on processing costs? Does the store have a toll-free number and live telephone assistance? What is the return policy, and will returns be accepted at other locations? Can you track orders online? How long is the exchange or return period? Can cash refunds be issued in place of store credit?

Pick a range of price points. Be thoughtful of your friends and well-wishers. Some can afford to spend more than others, so include selections that thrifty folks can confidently give without feeling cheap. Check it twice When you’ve finished your selections, ask for a master list and review it carefully to catch mistakes like omissions or duplications. Definitely double-check the delivery address and note the name of at least one contact person at each store to be your “point person” in case of questions or problems.

Keep it up-to-date After each flurry of gifts received (engagement party, bridal showers, wedding), review your registry to delete purchased gifts that the store personnel didn’t note.

What will we be like ten years from now?

What about cash gifts? Many couples prefer money

You won’t stay at today’s starting point. Your modest apartment or starter home will one day expand to larger and fancier digs, so allow for future growth when making your selections.

over material gifts, but give this subject very careful thought before acting on it. In most cases, asking for cash is crass and ill-mannered, so NEVER put a request in writing.

Think ahead about additions and/or replacements. Some stores offer “open stock” purchasing, meaning that any item in a particular design 1 7 4   CELEBRATES 15 YEARS • WWW.VALLEYWEDDINGPAGES.COM

HONEYMOON TRAVEL TIPS

DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Before you go, acquaint yourself with your destination. In some large cities you won’t need a rental car because public transportation is around every corner, and parking is rarely available, anyway. Look into weather predictions about wherever you’re headed, and inquire about a Caribbean resort’s money-back guarantee in case of tropical storms. Find out what you’re actually purchasing at an “all-inclusive” resort or spa. Will you still have to tip? Does your price include water sports or side trips? What about transportation to and from the airport? THINK IT THROUGH BEFOREHAND. If you’re going to a foreign country, imagine yourself there first. Plan to be diplomatic by learning some phrases in the native language. Remember that you are the foreigner there, so don’t balk at their customs or foods. (“When in Rome… “ and all that.) Check about vaccinations for travel abroad; they often are required. In addition, invest in a newly updated printed guidebook about the area; it will offer some of the best and most realistic information about traveling to and within your destination.

1. Credit cards and traveler’s checks are much recommended over wads of cash. You’ll want some paper money REMEMBER. . .

for souvenirs and other minor purchases, but your pre-determined honeymoon budget should still hold sway. Have your groom wear a money belt for safety’s sake.

2. Confirm hotel reservations the week before you leave. If you arrive and find the room unavailable or less than what you booked, consult the manager immediately, and don’t take no for an answer.

3. If you encounter problems with any travel arrangements or accommodations, take issue at once to solve them. Don’t wait until you depart to make a complaint.

Relax and enjoy! You both deserve it!

15 Year Anniversary PUBLISHERS LETTER

T

he Valley Wedding Pages, LLC has been the staple in Rio Grande Valley wedding and event planning since 2003 when Publisher Leticia Guerra-Cantu first purchased the magazine when it was just the Annual Planning Guide. Throughout its publication run, The Valley Wedding Pages, LLC has welcomed and debuted local vendors and professionals in the special events industry, some who have been a loyal member of the magazine’s family from day one. It has grown to become a full-service planning publication, now with a seasonal social magazine, a bi-annual quinceañera magazine, and a strong online and social media presence for its modern brides. Leticia and her dedicated staff have groomed this company to be well-recognized not only for its print products, but as well as its involvement in the Rio Grande Valley, connecting well with brides and grooms and contributing to many organizations and charities, and participating in local social events such as grand openings and wedding fairs. Along with being members of the International Live Events Association’s San Antonio chapter, The Valley wedding Pages, LLC also attends the Wedding MBA conference in Las Vegas and the seasonal New York Bridal Fashion Week every year so as to keep up with the wedding industry’s latest trends. After celebrating its 10 Year Anniversary in 2013 with Guest of Honor Preston Bailey, Floral & Event Designer extraordinaire, Leticia and the publication began offering scholarships for the Certification in Wedding & Event Planning course thru UTRGV’s Continuing Ed program (then UTPA) for the next three years. We also host the magazine’s “How I Got Engaged Contest”, giving one lucky couple a complete wedding giveaway at The Valley Wedding Pages’ Annual Planning Guide Launch event. Honorably recognized by the city of McAllen as one of 2017’s Top 5 Small Businesses Award recipients, The Valley Wedding Pages, LLC continues to serve the South Texas region, as far as Corpus Christi and San Antonio, to be a part of a couple’s wedding celebration, from “Will you marry me?” to the last dance.

“We at The Valley Wedding Pages, LLC are honored and blessed to have reached such an important milestone in the company’s history, especially with our 15 Year Anniversary Celebration with our Guest of Honor, the revered and award-winning David Tutera. Thank you David for visiting the Rio Grande Valley again to participate in our special event. We have seen amazingly talented staff members come and go, but their work has been integral in transforming our magazine and its sister publications into what it is recognized today. To my current staff team who work diligently day and night and who rise above their own expectations, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To all our amazing advertisers and vendors who work with us to bring weddings and special events to life, thank you for being a part of our publication family. I want to give a special thanks to those vendors who have been with us since our first publication, we are grateful to your never-ending support. And finally, thank you to our loyal readers and brides who come to us when planning their special event and making us part of one of the most important days of their lives.” Cheers to 15 Years!
