My name is Devon Pierce and I have been a dedicated track & field member since the age of 12 years old with Flying Lyons Track club. I made it to AAU Regionals Junior Olympics and Games of Texas state TAAF meet since the 8th grade in the 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles during summer track. I have been on the Varsity team at Permian High School for 3 years in a few dedicated sports including track & field. I have also made it to UIL regionals for two years in the 110 and 300 hurdles.

I had knee surgery my junior year and I didn’t let it fail me. I have known in my mind and in my heart that I’ve always wanted to be at the top in everything and it’s never been easy, but I’ve always been a fighter, so I don’t let anything hold me back. If an obstacle is in my way, I’m going to find a way to rise and conquer. I dedicated my time practicing harder by running more and more each day. Surprisingly, I was able to compete during the track & field season my senior year in high school.

As a peer leader I mentor athletes with my summer track team by motivating them to push harder and never give up. I have volunteered with assisting in park clean ups and giving food to the needy with the Odessa Food Bank. Receiving this award will assist me with covering tuition and book fees for college. I will continue my education at Odessa College and plan to major in business. There’s a long road to the top and with the help of Mrs. Cepero, this will assist with my success and where I want to get in life.

Thank you, DP
