Celebrity Alpacas LORETTA HAJOVSKY AND HER ALPACAS BRING NEXT-LEVEL CHARM TO SPECIAL EVENTS WRITTEN BY KIRSTEN CORNELL
8 | FEBRUARY 2021 wedding guide
It’s easy to fall in love with alpacas. Often confused with llamas, the noticeably smaller mammals have fairly domesticated demeanors and irresistibly fluffy faces. Loretta Hajovsky was no match for their charms. When her husband Gerard brought her to an alpaca farm for her 50th birthday, she was smitten. It was only a short time before they owned three of them as pets. “Being an empty nester, I had a lot of free time on my hands,” says Hajovsky. “I spent many hours with my alpacas.” Then, about three years ago, she was sparked with a creative idea. She fashioned a rainbow unicorn costume for one of her alpacas. She coordinated with the City of La Grange to bring her costumed alpaca to the free summer movie night on the square so children could pet him and take photos. “This was hugely successful, and on the way back to our farm in Holman, my husband said, ‘Loretta, I think you’re on to something here,’” she recalls. The confetti began to fall, and as they planned out their business, Texas Party Animals took shape.
BUILDING A BUSINESS
With a background in accounting, marketing, and public relations, Hajovsky had a solid foundation to begin building her business. “I have always loved being around animals, so I created a job and career I love with my own rules supported by my work ethic,” she grins. “I wanted to create something I could be proud of.” And now, in her third year of business with eight celebrity alpacas, she is doing just that. After creating social media pages, the word spread pretty quickly about her adorable counterparts. “Within two weeks of creating my social media accounts, I booked my first little girl’s birthday party in Austin, Texas,” says Hajovsky. “Approximately 30 days after that event, I booked my first fairytale wedding event.” While social media and word-of-mouth quickly spread the news of her budding business, Hajovsky and her husband were putting in the labor. Weekly they would set up display tables at vendor open houses, and she would meet one-on-one with potential clients. “I spent hours researching wedding and event venues within a 200mile radius of La Grange,” she recalls. “I contacted the owners and requested a spot on their preferred vendor list or a spot at an open house.”
worming treatments, trimming teeth and toenails, varmint-proof fencing, etc.—they change their minds pretty quickly,” she laughs. Not to mention, her alpacas go through thousands of hours of training. Many training details remain a trade secret. However, similar to house pets, it requires a lot of repetition. “I spend hours each year walking, grooming, hand-feeding, hugging, and petting my alpacas,” she explains. “It is intense one-on-one as well as group training.” Some high-end clients have even offered to buy her trained alpacas, but Hajovsky maintains that no amount of money could be traded for her alpaca boys. “They are my alpaca children. I can always make more money, but I cannot replace my alpaca family.”
A WOW FACTOR TEXAS
Party Animals is available for a variety of events, including weddings, birthday parties, proposals, holiday parties, grand openings, and gender reveals. These local celebrities can also be hired for individual photography as well as corporate and even TV commercials. Playing the role of everything from ring bearer and flower girl to escorting brides down the aisle, these alpacas are ready to party! “Our boys have been greeters and even bartenders,” Hajovsky laughs. “The alpacas carry beverages in insulated packs while our TABC certified animal handlers retrieve them for guests.” They have also served as emotional support animals for brides before the wedding, especially those who have lost parental figures. “You never know what someone is going through, so you should sprinkle that kindness at every opportunity,” she advises. Mostly, guests simply enjoy taking photos with the alpacas and handfeeding them alpacaritas. “There are always a ton of alpaca selfies at every event we attend,” Hajovsky adds. “Generally, my customers are looking to add something fun and new to their event—a wow factor.” And “wow” they do! Hajovsky recalls a particular event where a customer hired Texas Party Animals to surprise his girlfriend. An avid collector of all things llama and alpaca, she was not emotionally prepared for their entrance. “Her boyfriend escorted the alpaca to where all of her party guests were waiting. She was so surprised she began shaking and crying,” Hajovsky recalls. “And just when she thought her life couldn’t get any better and was hugging our alpaca, he got down on one knee and proposed.” To celebrate, a second alpaca entered with chilled champagne ready to serve bubbly to guests.
The fleece was in motion.
For the Hajovsky family, being a part of those incredible moments are the crux of their business.
ALPACA CHILDREN
SPREADING KINDNESS
Currently, their sought after alpacas include Willie, Waylon, Tex, Houston, Austin, Pancho, Lefty, and Lone Star. Also on staff (parttime) are their sons, Jason and Kyle. Hajovsky credits her friends and support system who are available for contract work as large corporate events or double bookings occur. It’s easy to understand why she wouldn’t have a problem finding staff to work or volunteer to help with events. While her well-trained boys may make it look easy, caring for alpacas requires quite a bit of work and dedication. At nearly every event, Hajovsky has attendees beg for an alpaca or—as she did—fall in love and have the desire to buy one themselves. “When I describe the care that is needed to maintain proper health—grooming,
However, you can’t attend a party without the perfect outfit, and Hajovsky’s boys are no exception. She has a plethora of costumes on hand that are all personally designed and created. After booking, customers can look through the online “costume closet” and choose outfits for the alpacas. Hajovsky also creates custom garments to coordinate with corporate themes, logos, and merchandise.

“When customers view the costume closet, they see all of the options we offer and often rehire us for different types of events,” explains Hajovsky. “They love the alpacas so much, they’ll hire us in the same year for birthdays and even Christmas events. Repeat customers are a treasure and so appreciated.” Even if you don’t have a life event coming up and you’re itching for an alpaca to nuzzle, you can schedule a playdate—yes, a playdate— with these lively guys. “Our guys absolutely love scheduling personal playdates,” Hajovsky beams. “I bring the alpacas to your home or office as well as special floor pillows, brushes, and feed. You can spend an entire hour walking, petting, feeding, hugging, brushing, and snuggling your alpaca.” Sign us up. In addition to formal events, Texas Party Animals volunteers at local community events through schools, libraries, and nursingrehabilitation facilities. “At all of our children’s events, there is a lot of alpaca education. I discuss the shearing, feeding, and overall health and welfare of the animals, as well as the process of the annual shearing to final wearable fiber products,” says Hajovsky. “I bring visual displays for a better alpaca education and understanding of how a product goes from the fiber and the process to get it to a wearable item.” Giving back both locally and on a broader scale is very important to Hajovsky, who volunteers with the Tim Tebow Foundation and the American Cancer Society of San Antonio. “I believe that what you do for other people has a positive ripple effect,” she states. “If you hold the key to bring a little joy and happiness into the world, turning that key opens the door to future possibilities.”
FOCUSED FUTURE
Full-time ranchers in La Grange, the Hajovsky family is proud to serve the local area and agrees that being centrally located near several major metropolitan markets has contributed to her success. This woman-owned business is ready to customize events for each individual. Making an event truly spectacular is in the details, and Hajovsky is invested from the day of booking. Specializing in bringing fluffy farm fun to city events is, after all, what they do best. But what’s next for these lovable characters? Hajovsky has big dreams for her boys, including seeing them on the silver screen. She envisions a producer needing trained alpacas for a TV sitcom, movie, or even high-end fashion photography in the future. “I also have a goal to build an educational barn and host small events on our farm,” she adds. “After all, these are farm animals, so focusing on the agri-tourism part of Texas Party Animals will be essential for the future. It’s so much fun going to events and traveling, but it would be nice to be able to provide services directly on our farm.” Hajovsky feels privileged to have the best job in the world—spreading the joy and healing snuggles of her beloved alpacas. Although her expansion plans include adding additional animals to the fold, her alpacas will always be her first fleecy love. And who will she be adding to the herd? It’s a secret.

THE PERFECT
Wedding Day Details QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE
Booking A Photographer Various components combine to make weddings beautiful and memorable. Couples rely on photographers to capture the smiles and moments that helped make their events unique and to ensure the big day is remembered for years to come. The trusted wedding resource The Knot notes that an internal study found that, among 27,000 couples who got married in 2019, an average of $2,400 was spent on a wedding photographer to document their big day. Couples who want to find the best photographer for their wedding day can ask several questions before making their final decision.
WHAT STYLE DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN?
Photographers may be able to shoot various styles of photos, but may specialize in a specific type. For example, some photographers specialize in photojournalism, while others may excel at portraiture. Going with a photographer who has the most expertise shooting the style you prefer will help produce the desired results.
WHO WILL BE SHOOTING MY WEDDING?
Certain photography studios have several photographers working under one roof. Just because you meet with one does not necessarily mean that photographer will be on site, unless it is specified in the contract.
HAVE YOU EVER WORKED AT MY VENUE BEFORE?
Photographers may be familiar with several local wedding venues and houses of worship. A photographer who has experience working in the locations where couples will tie the knot and subsequently celebrate might produce the best results, but lack of experience with particular venues need not exclude other professionals.
CAN WE SEE A FULL GALLERY OF A RECENT WEDDING?
According to Brides magazine, unlike an album or a highlight gallery, a full gallery provides a better sense of a photographer’s style and attention to detail.
14 | FEBRUARY 2021 wedding guide
WILL PHOTOS BE COLOR BALANCED AND RETOUCHED?
Skilled photographers are capable of capturing winning photos. But photos can be enhanced further in the studio with retouching software to bring out specific effects. Some photographers will polish all proofs, while others only will work on the images ultimately ordered. Confirm retouching details before signing the contract.
WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE PHOTO PACKAGES?
A detailed price list helps you compare one photographer to another and decide which elements are covered. Additional prints, having a photographer’s assistant, ordering albums for the parents, or ordering a large framed print can alter costs significantly. Explore all prices to ensure you’re getting the best value. In addition, consider how many hours of event coverage are included in the price.
WHAT IS THE PAYMENT TIMELINE?
Photographers may accept deposits for their services but expect a different timeline of payment. Some may require payment in full before the wedding, while others may offer a payment plan that includes a final payment when picking up proofs or albums. Wedding photography is one of the essential elements of a wedding and helps tell the story of couples’ special day. Asking key questions can help couples find a photographer who will produce the desired results.
HOW TO FIND YOUR
Wedding Florist
Weddings join the lives of two loving individuals so they can share their future with one another. Various elements help make weddings both momentous and magical. Some weddings adhere to themes that are designed to make an impression and showcase couples’ personalities. Floral arrangements are key components of wedding themes, as they help to establish ambiance at both the ceremony and reception. Flowers can easily help couples achieve a desired vibe, whether that’s rustic, romantic, modern, or even whimsical. Skilled florists may use a variety of flowers and foliage, as well as dramatic displays to help create the couple’s wedding day vision. According to an internal study from the wedding advice and planning resource The Knot, which surveyed more than 27,000 couples who got married in 2019, the average cost of wedding flowers was $2,000 in 2019. However, the cost of floral arrangements can vary depending on the scope of the arrangements and choice of flowers, including whether they’re in season or not. It is essential for couples to spend time vetting potential florists to find one who will produce their desired vision at a price that fits their budget. These guidelines can make the process go more smoothly. • Establish your theme early on. Floral arrangements will complement and enhance other elements of the wedding, including color scheme and the wedding theme. If your wedding theme ties into a specific season, you will work with the florist to find blooms and other pieces that coordinate. For example, winter weddings with white, ice blue and silver color schemes may coordinate with white ranunculus flowers, dahlias, dusty miller foliage, and viburnum berries. • Bring swatches and photographs to consultations. It is easier to explain color palettes to a florist with examples in hand. Show the florist the types of arrangements you prefer and have actual fabric swatches from bridesmaid gowns or groomsmen vests so that colors can be complemented. • Create a list of desired items. Florists may sell items a la carte or have packages of common floral pieces for wedding celebrations. Types of floral arrangements include bridal bouquet, bridesmaids’ bouquets, maid of honor bouquet, corsages for mothers/grandmothers, boutonnieres for groomsmen and fathers/ grandfathers, flower girl headpiece, petals to sprinkle, table centerpieces, altar arrangements, pew or chair decorations, and cake decorations. • Go easy on aroma. Tread lightly when selecting blooms that have strong aromas. They may be beautiful, but many people are sensitive to smells. Allergies also may be exacerbated by flowers with strong aromas. Discuss options with the florist before proceeding.
MAKE A STATEMENT WITH YOUR
Wedding Cake
Brides and grooms may pour over every detail of their weddings, but few components of the festivities may be as fun, especially for foodies, as deciding what the wedding cake will look like. Couples who want to deliver show-stopping visuals often express some measure of their creativity and personalities through statement wedding cakes. Many couples now eschew the classic three-tiered white cake in favor of a dessert that garners instant attention. Whether the cake is brightly colored or hand-painted, a towering architectural marvel or shimmering in metallics, couples are opting to make a statement with their confections. Apart from clever cake-toppers, here are ways to stand apart when dessert is served. • According to the Perfect Wedding Guide, a rising trend in cakes is to cover a white or naked cake with translucent glaze tinted in the couple’s wedding colors. This artistic expression can be especially stunning in boho-chic weddings. • Statement tiers also are popular. The cake may be traditional in nearly every way, but couples then set the cake apart by featuring an elaborate design or a different hue in one tier. • Martha Stewart Weddings advises that more than just color can be used to make a statement. Lifelike sugar flowers can really set cakes apart. Guests may not be sure if they can consume all aspects of some cakes. But delicate sugar flowers taste as good as they look. • Hand-painted tiles on a cake are another way to add panache. A bride and groom may be inspired by a European vacation or the stained-glass effects of religious windows and want to add that feel to the tiers of the cake. • Sometimes a statement comes by way of texture. Even an all-white cake can be dressed up with interesting textural effects. Ruffles, lace, embossing, and 3-D rosettes are different textural components that can be incorporated in cake designs. • Couples also may want to tell their unique stories with cake. Individual tiers designed to reflect various milestone moments from the couple’s relationship can be quite engaging. • Capitalizing on the trend of edgier weddings, couples may opt for darker hues on their cakes — even a black tier — or nontraditional geometric shapes to the cake itself or its design elements. Statement cakes can really say something about the couple getting married. Much like other wedding elements, cakes provide a window into the minds of happy couples.
• Explain your budget. Research the average cost of floral arrangements and let the florist know what you can afford. This can help the florist narrow down options or make substitutions that fit your theme and your budget. Couples can take certain steps as they choose floral arrangements for their weddings. Cost should not be the only factor in the decision, even though it is an important one.

USEFUL WAYS TO INCORPORATE
Social Media in Wedding Planning Since its inception decades ago, social media has changed the world. As the popularity of social media exploded in the early part of the 21st century, various platforms emerged and ultimately affected movements pertaining to everything from politics to social justice to charitable efforts.
may enjoy reliving the night. The photo sharing social media platform Instagram is a great way for couples and their guests to relive the special moment a couple ties the knot and all the ensuing fun at the reception. Create a wedding-specific Instagram page and post all the photos you want to share.
Social media also has emerged as a great tool for couples on the cusp of getting married. The following are some useful ways that couples can employ social media into their wedding planning.
INCLUDE GUESTS WHO COULD NOT ATTEND THE FESTIVITIES
CREATE YOUR OWN HASHTAG
A couple-specific hashtag can be a great and simple way to share information on Twitter, which remains one of the most popular social media platforms across the globe. Your own hashtag can alert friends and family who are on Twitter whenever you post new information and photos.
SHARE A PHOTO ALBUM ONLINE
Photographers serve as something akin to unofficial documentarians on couples’ wedding days. Many photographers are there from the moment the bride begins to get ready until the last person leaves the dance floor at the end of the night. Many couples love leafing through their wedding albums for the rest of their lives together, but guests also
16 | FEBRUARY 2021 wedding guide
No matter how hard couples may try to pick a date that’s convenient for all of their guests, some invitees will inevitably decline the invitation. That’s especially true while the world continues to confront the COVID-19 pandemic. Elderly guests or loved ones with underlying medical conditions that make them more vulnerable to getting seriously ill from COVID-19 may be forced to reluctantly decline their invitations. But couples can utilize social media platforms like Facebook Live to include loved ones who couldn’t make it in real time.
ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO PITCH IN WITH THE PLANNING
Planning a wedding should be fun, and what better way to add to the fun factor than encouraging loved ones to share their ideas via a social media platform like Pinterest? Couples can create a Pinterest board and ask interested friends and family members to share ideas on everything from attire to decor to floral arrangements. This can be an especially effective way to involve bridesmaids and groomsmen if social distancing
guidelines and travel restrictions related to the pandemic are still in place when planning your wedding. Social media has changed the world, and it also has changed how couples plan their weddings.
4 WEDDING SOCIAL MEDIA MISTAKES TO AVOID 1. IGNORING THE COUPLE’S SOCIAL MEDIA REQUESTS.
If the bride and groom choose to have an unplugged wedding, respect their wishes and keep your phone use as minimal as possible, and don’t post photos on social media until you’re given the all-clear. But if the couple has a hashtag, make an effort to use as much as possible on every post. They’re excited to be able to see all photos taken from their wedding in one place and so quickly after the event too.
The Perfect Place for Your Wedding
Lutherhill Carby Chapel
2. POSTING PHOTOS OF THE BRIDE OR GROOM BEFORE THE CEREMONY.
3. ANNOUNCING YOUR ENGAGEMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA BEFORE TELLING FAMILY MEMBERS.
Imagine if one of your close family members or best friends posted an engagement announcement on Facebook without telling you first. That would feel pretty horrible, right? That’s why you should be sensitive of your loved ones’ feelings when you get engaged. Even though your fingers might be itching to drop the mic on social media right away, take the time to cover your bases and tell your immediate family and best friends, and anyone else who would be hurt if they didn’t hear it from you first. Getting likes on your engagement ring photo is fun, but not as important as making sure your crew is all on the same page before you post it.

Even if you had the most fun ever getting ready with the bride, don’t post any photos of her before she walks down the aisle (same goes for the groom!). Even if you snapped the most adorable pic of her with her hair in hot rollers sipping a mimosa with a sugared pink rim and a matching pink satin getting-ready robe while dancing to Taylor Swift (the stuff Instagram dreams are made of!), just don’t do it. You don’t want to risk giving any surprises away before she’s married, even if she’s doing a first look. Erring on the side of caution is best here, but posting photos of yourself or other bridesmaids before the ceremony shouldn’t be an issue—but it’s always courteous to ask the bride, just in case.
4. COMPETING WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEOGRAPHER FOR SHOTS.
One top pet peeve from photographers and videographers is guests getting in the way of their shots, even though they definitely don’t mean to. Be courteous and mindful of where they are, especially during the ceremony. The last thing the couple wants to see in their professional ceremony photos is a sea of guests holding their iPhones up to capture the first kiss shot. We know you want to get the perfect photo for social media, but being courteous toward the professionals (and therefore, the couple) trumps anything else during important moments throughout the day. HOW TO AVOID WEDDING
Reception Seating Mistakes Weddings are great opportunities for people to gather and celebrate the melding of two families into one. Weddings are a melting pot, and while the ultimate goal is for all guests invited to mingle and have a good time, preexisting relationships may cause some wedding-day interactions to be strained. However, with careful planning and some best behavior on the parts of all involved, getting hitched can go off without a hitch. It’s possible for guests who may have tumultuous pasts to keep the peace, but this also can be ensured through careful seating

arrangements. This is just one factor couples need to consider when deciding where guests will sit and dine at receptions. It’s important to avoid some common mistakes.
MISTAKE #1 Not having a seating plan. Let guests sit where they want and chaos may ensue. People may think they’re entitled to certain seats, may hop into seats vacated by someone getting up to use the restroom or any number of other scenarios. Seating arrangements also ensure everyone is accounted for across the room.
MISTAKE #2 Seating families separately. Unless there are rifts

or singletons to specific tables, quite another to assign specific seats. Do not dictate exactly where at the table a guest should sit. Some people arrive early, others late, and it is up to them to work out how to arrange themselves at the table.
MISTAKE #3 Trying to force new friendships. Avoid trying to figure out who will get along by creating a potpourri table. A cousin in a band will not necessarily want to sit next to your coworker who plays guitar simply because they have a shared love of music. A wedding is not the time to try to create new friendships. If it’s meant to be, they’ll connect in a more organic way.
MISTAKE #6 Failing to get family feedback. Always check with your parents and future in-laws as resources about how to seat certain guests. They’ll likely know who will make the best table-mates, especially if couples are not familiar with everyone on the guest list.
MISTAKE #4 The dreaded kids’ table. Young children can probably

A bigger faux pas is to sit teenagers or twentysomethings at the kids table even if they seem like youngsters to you. Set a strict cut-off age for a children’s table.
guests’ needs. An elderly relative may not be comfortable in front of the DJ table. A person in a wheelchair may need easy access to and from the reception room. It’s important to be mindful of these special needs. A seating plan for wedding receptions is an important consideration so that every guest can feel comfortable.

FEATURES TO LOOK FOR IN AN
Outdoor Wedding Venue Couples will remember their wedding day for the rest of their lives. The day a couple says “I do” is often the culmination of months of planning, and much of those efforts are dedicated to creating a special ceremony that will create cherished memories. The choice of venue is a significant decision, and today’s couples have more options regarding where to tie the knot than ever before. Many couples on the cusp of getting hitched are looking to do so in the great outdoors. Nature took center stage at weddings in 2020, as many couples moved their ceremonies outdoors to adhere to government guidelines issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Couples considering outdoor venues for their weddings can look for certain features that can make the big day as special as it is safe.
BACKDROP
An awe-inspiring backdrop, whether it’s the natural beauty of a mountaintop or a beach with the sound of ocean waves crashing into the shoreline, can make for great photos and a ceremony couples and their guests will never forget.
PLAN B
Couples may work hard to ensure everything goes off without a hitch, but ultimately the elements are in control during outdoor wedding ceremonies. So couples hoping to host an outdoor ceremony may want to look for sites that have a readily accessible indoor option just

in case Mother Nature is not cooperating. Many reception venues are capable of hosting indoor and outdoor ceremonies as well as dinners, so this might be the best option for couples who want to have outdoor weddings during times of the year when weather is typically inclement or unpredictable, such as winter, early spring or late fall.
LIGHTING
What’s awe-inspiring in person may be hard to capture on film. Couples may want to bring their wedding photographers along as they search for outdoor ceremony sites. Professional photographers can help couples determine which sites will make for great photos and which ones might make it hard to capture the beauty of the site’s surroundings.
ACCESSIBILITY
Couples will want to make sure all of their guests can be there to witness the ceremony. Before choosing an outdoor ceremony site, consider those guests who may have mobility issues, such as grandparents. A midday hike up a mountain might be doable for most guests, but it may exclude others from witnessing the ceremony. Try to find an outdoor ceremony site that’s readily accessible to everyone. In addition, keep in mind that the more accessible a site is the easier it is to get away and get indoors if the weather takes a sudden, unexpected turn for the worse. Outdoor weddings are wildly popular. Couples who find outdoor ceremony sites with certain features may rest easier knowing they and their guests are safe and sound no matter what Mother Nature has in store come the big day.
