This event is a fund raiser hosted by the Ronald Reagan Spirit Club, which is a booster organization that supports the pep squad, drill team, dance team, cheerleaders and mascots at Ronald Reagan High School. The role of these student groups is to promote school spirit and support campus activities while developing the skills and techniques associated with each team. Proceeds from this fund-raiser go towards supporting the teams in a variety of areas including UDA and UCA competition at regional and state levels, team costumes, technology for the studio, food and water for each student, and master classes and clinics. Students who participate in these organizations are consistently learning and practicing skills that they will utilize in their future endeavors. These life skills include time management, punctuality, teamwork, and most of all, the rewards of working hard to accomplish great things with others! Trinity Glen Rose District Launches Coupon Program What’s better than free? Well, how about a $50 coupon just for having a free irrigation system consult? The Trinity Glen Rose Groundwater Conservation District (TGR) and San Antonio Water System (SAWS) are teaming up to make that happen for limited number of residents living in areas served by the TGR. SAWS or TGR irrigation system experts will conduct the consultation and TGR will provide the $50 coupon which can be redeemed for landscape materials and low-water-use plant materials. “We have been working on putting this partnership together for several months now, because we know it is important to our mission of conserving, protecting and preserving the Trinity Aquifer,” said TGR General Manager George Wissmann. “Automatic sprinkler systems can use a great deal of water when they’re running and so it only makes common sense to do what we can to ensure that those systems are running as efficiently as possible. SAWS has a great program to help people learn how to do that, and we wanted to provide a bit of incentive for residents in the Trinity District to take advantage of SAWS’ expertise.” Wissmann explained that this is a pilot program for the District and that they will be only issuing coupons to the first 500 residents who take advantage of this limited offer.
SAWS uses water from the Trinity Aquifer to serve many of its customers who live in the Trinity District, which is essentially the area in northern Bexar County outside of Loop 1604. Here’s how the TGR Irrigation Consult Coupon Program will work. • Customers living in these TGR zip codes will be eligible for the coupon - 78015, 78023, 78254, 78255, 78256, 78257, 78258, 78259, 78260, 78261, 78266. • If you are a SAWS customer, call or email SAWS to schedule an irrigation consult. • Call SAWS at 210-704-SAVE (7283), or email juan.Soulas@ saws.org. • At the conclusion of the consult, SAWS will provide a copy of the consultation report. Send a copy of the consultation report to TGR and we will send the $50 coupon to you. • Email: mail@TrinityGlenRose.com or mail to: 6335 Camp Bullis Rd, Suite 25, SATX 78257. • If your are not a SAWS customer, please email: mail@ TrinityGlenRose.com to set up an appointment. We will provide you with the coupon after the TGR consult. To learn more or request your free WaterSaver Irrigation Consultation, call 210-704-SAVE. If you are not a SAWS customer and live in the TGR District (essentially all of the area in Bexar County outside of North Loop 1604), you can email: mail@TrinityGlenRose.com.
“When we first began publishing this informative newsletter, we told people who subscribed that they would get first notice on some great offers, and this is one of them,” Wissmann noted. “We will be reaching out to neighborhoods across the District to announce this great money and water saving opportunity. But, readers of the newsletter are getting the announcement first, so now’s the time to register for free irrigation consult.”

ADL Pet Rescue We traveled to Houston, Rockport, Brazario County, and other areas affected by Hurricane Harvey to transfer pets into our shelter. We have worked together with San Antonio Animal Care Services, Wings of Rescue, Houston PetSet and many other wonderful organizations to help shelters impacted by Harvey. The pets we took in were already in a shelter and available for adoption before the Hurricane hit. Bringing these pets to ADL has allowed for those shelters to make room for pets that were displaced by Hurricane Harvey. The idea is to keep them as close to home as possible so that they can have a better chance of reuniting with their owners. Here are some photos from our efforts. Including our trip to Houston SPCA on September 13th. We transferred over 44 cats and dogs to ADL during that trip. They are now in our care and ready to find homes of their own. Here is our Thank You video, if you want to share: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjFqjsKNoWI

What are the only two signs you want to see in your yard?
Hi, I’m Marsha! Marsha! Marsha! Marsha! That’s my name! You could probably say it over and over and you’ll still get this same calm expression I’m making in my photo. I was one of the cats transferred from Rockport Humane Society due to Hurricane Harvey. I was already in the shelter looking for a home before the hurricane hit but they needed to get me out to a safer location after the hurricane passed. I’ve been tested positive for FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus). Don’t worry! It’s not as scary as it sounds. Just read up on it and you’ll learn that FIV+ cats can live just as long, happy, and healthy as ones without it. So here I am in San Antonio ready and waiting to find my forever home. Hopefully that home is with you! Marsha is a 4 yr. old, Female, Domestic Shorthair mix. ADL Pet ID # A36406344 Pet profile: https://adltexas.org/pets/marsha-2/ THE ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: Spay/neuter surgery, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, internal and external parasite treatment, heartworm prevention, 30 days of 24PetWatch Pet Insurance, a starter bag of Heritage Ranch by H-E-B pet food and more! Fees may be different during adoption specials. Call 210-655-1481 for details. Stone Oak - October 2017 - Vol 22 No 10

Have a Safe Halloween Halloween is a kid’s delight. It’s a blast to dress up in costumes, go trick-or-treating, attend parties, and most of all, eat candy. At the same time, Halloween can be scary for parents. Costumes can be dangerous, too much candy can be sickening and walking around at night can be risky.
H – Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help see and help others see you.
A – Always test make-up in a small area first. Remove it when done to avoid skin irritation.
L – Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible.

Winter Irrigation Makes Your Sewer Bill Grow…Not Your Grass! By Nathan Riggs (Conservation Project Coordinator San Antonio Water System)
Ok everyone, let’s have a show of hands to see how many of you run your irrigation systems at least once per week during the winter? First, you must understand that irrigating dormant grass will not make it grow, no matter how hard you try. As long as soil temperatures are below 70oF, turf grasses will not produce green shoots. Only the roots of grasses, trees and shrubs are active in the winter. What WILL turn green are the germinating winter weeds like dandelions and henbit, along with cool-season weedy grasses such as rye, fescue, Poa anna, or Rescue grass. Why is NOT irrigating in the winter important? Your sewer bill. Yes! Your sewer bill! SAWS uses the period between November 15 and March 15 each year to calculate the winter average. The winter average is a consecutive three-month period used to calculate the sewer bill for the following year. Why use the winter? Water use for residential customers in the winter is ASSUMED to be primarily occurring indoors, and thus exiting the property via the sewer pipes. Wastewater output is not metered for residential SAWS customers. That’s not a job ANY meter reader would want…hee hee! If you are irrigating, draining and refilling the pool, or have a bad unrepaired leak during this three-month period, these activities are reflected in your metered domestic water use and will be included in that winter average sewer calculation. If you have a leak during the winter averaging period and get it repaired, call SAWS so a bill review can be performed and adjust for the leak (leak repair receipts MUST be provided) to make sure the sewer charges are accurate and don’t include the extra water caused by the leak. Next time you’re in the garage, stop by your friend “Hunter” or “Rain Bird” (whatever your brand of irrigation controller) and switch them to OFF or Manual between November 15 and March 15.

NEIGHBORHOOD REPRESENTATIVES The Neighborhood Representative Committee meets the second Wednesday of each month (with the exception of December and January) at 7:00PM in the Director’s Room at the Club at Sonterra. These meetings last about one hour, and are designed to assist in communication between residential neighborhoods and the POA, while providing the opportunity for communities to ask questions, and trade valuable ideas and information. Past speakers have included SAWS, CPS, the City of San Antonio, SAPD, and Allied/Republic Waste. This group is vital to the Stone Oak community, and its members are usually the first to receive valuable information and updates from the POA. Many entities such as SAPD, CPS, and SAWS also have come to rely on them to get information out to the public quickly. If you do not see a representative listed below for your neighborhood, please consider volunteering. (A neighborhood is welcome to have two representatives and alternate attendance.) Call the POA office at 210-490-9481 for more information. Committee Chairman Viki Melton 210-416-4774
