Community Updates Stone Oak Parkway – Traffic Update Working in conjunction with the City of San Antonio, your POA is happy to announce you will soon see the stop signs at the four-way-stop on Stone Oak Parkway removed, and replaced with a stoplight. The hope is this will assist with traffic flow during peak traffic hours. In January the POA tested this theory with officers directing traffic through the stop sign.

The positive response was overwhelming, and soon reached the City. Shortly thereafter, the City and POA entered into an agreement that was approved at the June 2, 2016 City of San Antonio City Council Meeting.

In 2014, the POA formed a Community Projects Committee to compile a “wish list” for the Stone Oak community. The elimination of the stop signs was a consistent request. After meeting with the City of San Antonio Transportation and Capital Improvements (TCI) department, we learned the stop signs could not be removed due to previously determined lineof-sight issues. However, they did agree there was a traffic issue, and provided a May 2014 traffic study that determined the stop signs caused 6.25 million unnecessary stops per year. Ultimately, the City of San Antonio determined a stoplight in place of the stop signs was an acceptable solution. Your POA worked closely with TCI to reach an agreement, and greatly appreciates all TCI employees’ assistance, time, and efforts. As a result, you should see construction starting mid-summer, with completion by January 2017.

Curb and Sidewalk Clean-Up Over the past month, you may have noticed curbs and sidewalks along the main Stone Oak thoroughfares being pressure washed and cleaned. This project was done previously years ago, but now with more stringent conservation efforts, it is being done in a more eco-friendly fashion. Stone Oak property owners value their community, and we work hard to ensure its beauty. We hope this project will be completed within the next month- please be cautious when driving – and the end result will benefit us all.

The Animal Defense League We’re short on foster volunteers.

CAN YOU HELP? Kitten season is in full effect and brought an influx of kittens in need of fostering. As of this year, the Animal Defense League of Texas has taken in 437 kittens and counting. Currently, there are 220 kittens in foster care, and we urgently need more volunteers to foster. The more volunteers that contribute their time to become a foster parent, the more lives we can save. We’re always looking for foster parents for kittens, puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs and cats, animals needing special care/treatment, and older animals who need help with socialization or who are have difficulty adapting to shelter life. On average, animals stay in foster care for 2-4 weeks. ADL provides all supplies, food and medical care that is needed while you foster a pet. Learn more about our foster care program.

Opportunities to Save Money!

The San Antonio area has experienced a wet springâ&#x20AC;Ś indeed, a very wet spring. Rainfall for March, April, and May has exceeded the historic average by approximately 50, 300, and 200 percent respectively. This has made for extensive and luxurious vegetative growth and flower blooms. As a result, the San Antonio Water System Conservation Department has not issued recommendation to water for the entire 2016 year.

Sadly, SAWS staff have witnessed untold commercial accounts, including unfortunately, HOA and POA properties, running their irrigation systems. Not only was the supplemental water unnecessary for plant growth, but the money spent on the water could have been used for so many more important needs.

No doubt these errors were due to simple inattention to the irrigation system with so many other pressing management needs. Often, the controllers are left to landscape management companies, who are frequently focused on the immediate needs of the landscape and do not consider the larger or more nuanced management needs.

As of June 6, 2016, the SAWS Conservation Team has projected limited to no irrigation until early July, depending, of course, on weather conditions. Work with your landscape management team to discuss reducing or eliminating supplemental irrigation with the intent of reducing your clientâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s water budget. Our www.
