HENRY FORD’S

Money Attracting

Advice

by Dr. Joe Vitale

I

Idon’t know much more than you about Henry Ford, the industrial giant and tycoon who brought affordable cars to the masses in the early 1900s, but I spotted this revealing quote in his 1922 autobiography, My Life and Work: “The natural thing to do is to work – to recognize that prosperity and happiness can be obtained only through honest effort. Human ills flow largely from attempting to escape from this natural course.” What an obvious yet startling statement. It seems to me that most people want to avoid work. They’re seeking magic powers or special otherworldly favors, in order to do just that. Whenever I offer a Law of Attraction oriented product, the public loves it. Yet whenever I offer a productivity product, they shun it. After seeing this result over and over again for years, I realized that people want fairy dust and magic wands. They prefer to sit and visualize, rather than get up and create something. Obviously, I’m not against mind power, visualization, Law of Attraction, or most of the other tools and toys we have. They all have their place. They all assist you in achieving and attracting your desires. But you have to do something in this world.

As Ford noted, you have to work.

“Work,” to me, is following your passion in a way that serves others. One reason I’ve authored so many books, audios, DVDs, courses and more is I’m not afraid to work. Yet too many self-helpers say “I attracted my result, and didn’t DO anything!” Come on. You always do something. It may not have been “work” in the sense of extreme activity, or in the traditional sense of expending energy, but you did something to bring about the result. You had to. Life is a co-creation. I remember the creator of the hit movie The Secret bragging that her movie became a success without her “doing” anything to make it happen. I found it hard to imagine that she overlooked all the things she did to make the movie get noticed, right down to hand picking twenty-four guests (including me) to be in the movie – nearly all having a list of fans and followers. They promoted the movie for her, but she did the work of putting them into the movie. She took action. She continues to take action today, by mailing her list of Secret fans to keep the relationship with them going. That comes in handy when she promotes her next book. Again, work – or better stated, action – is virtually always needed. I learned how to work as a laborer on the railroad, starting at the age of five years old. (No lie.)

4

When I moved to Houston in the late 1970s, I managed to get day jobs as a laborer for temp agencies. Today I still work, but it isn’t with my back. It’s with my mind. Because I love what I do, and feel it is my life calling, it never feels like “work.” It’s far wiser to reflect on what you want to do, and then add the magic amulets, spells and potions to that desire. But to do just the latter, you’ll most likely struggle. I have no idea if Henry Ford was metaphysical or even psychological. I doubt it. I know he had his own quirky ideas about society, but I’m only interested in his ideas about attracting money. He sure knew the value of work. He preaches it over and over again in his 1922 autobiography, stating that work is the secret to success. Businesses today need to become acquainted with Henry Ford’s advice for making money. I was impressed to see that Ford wanted to build a car that would never break down. (!) He felt true serving was helping a family by building a car they could depend on. He felt one car, that lasted a lifetime, would be the best. No need for planned obsolescence or yearly model upgrades. (Tell Apple that. Or most any other modern business.) And Ford felt if his car ever broke down and needed service, the manufacturer should take care of the problem, not the owner.

I like this guy.

He also tried electric cars in the early 1900s, but shunned them for the same reason they aren’t ideal today – too heavy and not enough power. (Remember, both Nerissa and I drive electric cars, so I know of what Ford speaks.) Henry Ford basically felt that if you served people, the money would follow. His big motivating “why” – the ideal that drove him – was to create a system that kept people employed making cars that the masses would love. As I’m reading his autobiography, a few insightful quotes jump out: “I refuse to recognize that there are impossibilities. I cannot discover that any one knows enough about anything on this earth definitely to say what is and what is not possible.” “Everything can always be done better than it is being done.” “Money is only a tool in business. It is just a part of the machinery.” “Money, after all, is extremely simple. It is a part of our transportation system. It is a simple and direct method of conveying goods from one person to another. Money is in itself most admirable. It is essential. It is not intrinsically evil. It is one of the most useful devices in social life. And when it does what it was intended to do, it is all help and no hindrance.” Don’t be afraid to work. Remember, following your passion isn’t “work” if it’s your passion. Add visualization and other Law of Attraction mind technologies to the passionate serving of others, and you have a formula for modern day success.

In short, action is the alchemy that transmutes ideas into reality. I’ll repeat that. Action is the alchemy that transmutes ideas into reality.

Finally, here is Henry Ford’s creed: • An absence of fear of the future or of veneration for the past. One who fears the future, who fears failure, limits his activities. Failure is only the opportunity more intelligently to begin again. There is no disgrace in honest failure; there is disgrace in fearing to fail. What is past is useful only as it suggests ways and means for progress. • A disregard of competition. Whoever does a thing best ought to be the one to do it. It is criminal to try to get business away from another man – criminal because one is then trying to lower for personal gain the condition of one’s fellow-men, to rule by force instead of by intelligence. • The putting of service before profit. Without a profit, business cannot extend. There is nothing inherently wrong about making a profit. Well-conducted business enterprises cannot fail to return a profit, but profit must and inevitably will come as a reward for good service. It cannot be the basis – it must be the result of service. • Manufacturing is not buying low and selling high. It is the process of buying materials fairly and, with the smallest possible addition of cost, transforming those materials into a consumable product and distributing it to the consumer. Gambling, speculating, and sharp dealing tend only to clog this progression. Now get to work. PS: Remember – forget money and focus on service. Henry Ford knew this. So did seventeen-year-old Nick D’Aloisio, who reportedly received close to $30 million for a news-reading iPhone app named Summly that he developed and then sold to Yahoo. D’Aloisio says money was not his motivation when developing Summly. How many more clues do we need that money comes from passion and serving, not greed and manipulation?

tran cend s transcend There’s a cool trick that writers

and speakers of the holistic and metaphysical persuasion know all about. Take an everyday word and break it down and make it into something – well, metaphysical and holistic. The classic, of course, is turning disease into dis-ease. (That one’s like shooting fish in a barrel, though, and has been officially retired from all Austin All Natural articles.) You know the drill – remember becomes re-member, to re-acquire all of your missing parts and become whole again – that sort of thing. Here’s one, based on our June cover. Transcend, pretty metaphysical already, could be Trance-end – to wake up out of everyday’s daze and see – the COSMIC TRUTH! (Cue up the Beatles’ Yellow Submarine LP… umm, tape… umm, CD… umm, whatever young whippersnappers listen to these days.) Maybe even Trance-indental – coincidentally stumbling across the Cosmic Truth. Hmm… not bad. Slap a © on that, and watch for the official Austin All Natural Trance-Indental© Cosmic Awareness Seminar, coming soon to a metaphysical center near you. That’s the kind of thing you start to think about when you’re going into your eighth year of publishing (cue trumpets and such) Austin’s only 100% homegrown natural publication.

June, 2006.

Year one. First cover shot – Willie Nelson in the cab of a souped-up biodiesel pickup truck. Since then, biodiesel’s lost a little of its cachet, but Willie hasn’t, and neither, hopefully, has (cue trumpets, lightning and thunder – maybe a big ol’ gong) Austin’s only 100% – you know the rest. Eight’s a pretty auspicious number – turn it on its side and it represents the loop of infinity. Straight up, it’s said to be the number of prosperity, always a good thing. It’s also a transcendental – ahem, Trance-indental© – kinda thing, and transcending what everyone expects a natural mag to be has been our stock in trade, going on these eight years now.

6

The process of creating is always a process of transcending, of going beyond, of making something out of nothing – and it’s never a solo endeavor. Some of the movers and shakers of the Austin community came on board early on, and continue to make Austin All Natural what it is – unique, in an ever so Austinish kind of way. Too many people to thank everyone, as they say at the Academy Awards just before they pull out the list and start to thank everyone. The mainstay of a free magazine is its advertisers and editorial contributors. Thanks are in order to long-timers like (in ABC order) Ashtara Sasha White, Beth Carpenter, Bruce P. Grether, Daniel Staite, HeatherAsh Amara, Nerissa Oden, and Phyllis Light. (Nick Beef and Skip Looper mysteriously show up from time to time.) The production team of art director Pun Nio, cover artist Leslie Kell, and ad designer Sioux Storm make this the coolestlooking natural magazine ever, and the delivery team of Charles Martin, Bruce P. Grether, Nora Pirsch, Bill Fleming, and Sherie Johnson make sure it gets to where it’s going. Let’s see… anyone else?

The Secret weapon.

Saved the best for last, of course. A couple of months after that first issue, someone said one of the folks in the hit DVD The Secret lived in Wimberley. Joe Vitale agreed on the spot to be part of the magazine, and has been the top contributor and a source of inspiration ever since – and has become a dear friend. Thank you, my brother. Thanks also to my sweetie, Kristin Starr, who coined the term PMS – Pre Magazine Syndrome – after watching monthly deadlines get sweated out, month after month. When the day and night are equal in length, it’s a good time to party. June 22, drop by the Nature’s Treasures Community Center for an all-day open house with some of Austin’s top practitioners, co-sponsored by the Austin Holistic Chamber of Commerce and followed by the Austin All Natural Party Like It’s 2013 Anniversary Celebration. Finally, some guy nicknamed “Mick” painted the Golden Om on this month’s cover – thanks to Paul Heussenstamm for teaching him how to do it. Plans are in the works to submit it to Congress for a new flag design. The United States of Omerica -- has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

QIGONG ACTIVATION

Qigong, food healing, and everyday life by Jeff Primack Qigong is the art of Harnessing Qi (pronounced chee in Chinese – internal energy or life force that directly affects the blood flow), and is an exercise that makes your blood pulse by moving Qi. Using specific breathing techniques, along with postures and slow graceful movements, Qigong also encompasses healing foods, herbs, acupressure, and yogic stretches, all of which energize the body, increase vitality, and accelerate metabolism. After years of teaching group Qigong sessions to tens of thousands of people, the curriculum has shifted to what people have said in surveys was “most useful in life”. The Qi Activation seminar now has more of a medical line-up and focuses on food-based healing protocols, spending an hour each on protocols for cancer, diabetes, and heart disease, and includes Qigong Foot Reflexology for on the spot pain relief and endocrine boosting effects. As someone pointed out, though, time and a full schedule are often a challenge, making it hard to eat perfectly or practice as much as you’d like. The big question is – what are the most important Qigong and dietary components for people with extra busy lives? Ahh, yet another request for…

The ten-minute Qigong workout!

When time is short, try cleansing your body with oxygen and energy first thing in the morning. My daily practice is to wake up, brush my teeth and hair, drink some hot tea outside, and do the 9-Breath Method five times. This is a quick and powerful method – we spend hours thoroughly teaching it at the Qi Activation conference. This method absorbs and retains large amounts of oxygen in the bloodstream. Gentle power breathing awakens the cellular vibration, and stimulates metabolism. As I wake up slowly for ten minutes each morning, my senses become heightened, and I watch the birds in the garden. As far as food goes, look beyond fat, protein, carb, mineral, vitamin, enzyme, and follow God’s trail of white crystals into the apple core – the infamous fruit that started it all! Someone once said, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Yeah – but only if you eat the crystalized core of phytochemicals, which activates bone marrow‘s production of cytokines for immunity. Regardless of how busy your life is, here are some diet recommendations: • Give up all dairy products. Replace with delicious healing ice cream, raw key lime pie, and other healthy, non-dairy treats • Smoothie every morning. With avocado and its big seed, apple with its core, organic strawberries and other fruit.

8

If you want to live to be a hundred, do Qigong. – Dr. Oz

• Have big bowel movements. Eat squash, sweet potato and one Good Belly probiotic drink everyday. • Watermelon fast, once a month. Only watermelon all day, to cleanse the kidneys and urinary channels. Include eating or blending the white section, which contains L-Citrulline, a precursor to nitric oxide, the body’s primary vasodilator. Fasting on watermelon has helped dissolve kidney stones for many people. Watermelon is not recommended for diabetics, cancer patients, or people with sugar sensitive diseases, however.

Naturally high.

Aside from the clinical applications and food healing protocols, however, there’s still a big Qigong energy component to the experience. Qigong breathing techniques are a natural high, and a natural Qi activator – hence the name of the event. Based on an interview by Deanna Cook with Jeff Primack, a Qigong teacher who has studied with Qigong masters from all over the world, and has taught over 40,000 people in live seminars. Qi Activation comes to the Houston Convention Center July 20-23. Jeff Primack and twenty-five other instructors will be leading a massive group practice that allows participants to attend one, two, three, or four days of Qigong training for $129. The seminar is non-denominational, and open to all. 32 CE hours are available for Massage, and 24 PDA hours for Acupuncture. Seating limited. To reserve tickets, or for more info, call (800) 298-8970 or visit www.QiActivation.com

BREAK WITH THE PAST And venture into your highest endeavor by Daniel Barrett I was standing in my past – literally. Ways in which I had given my power away, or didn’t know I had additional stores of life to live and give. So many artists arrive at my musician’s development program with the gnawing feeling that there’s something more. The music calls them, every day. Sometimes, when you don’t redeem vital parts of your destiny, they turn into a sickness of sorts. Maladies that stem from authenticity unlived are many, and show up as anything from simple lethargy to depression and physical illness.

Standing.

At Can Do Yoga Studio, Connie Hausman was teaching our class how to stand up straight. No crazy hanging from ropes upside down like a Congress Bridge bat. This time, we were simply – standing. It’s Mountain Pose, which, at first, seems like a simple exercise. In this lesson, she let me know a slightly different pelvic tilt opened the second chakra. This power center, Connie explained, held additional stores of magnetism and sovereignty of will.

Don’t know about you…

But I’ll take a dose of magnetism and strength, any day! How do you step out of the past into the present, into your highest destiny? Start with something simple, and anchoring – a subtle body shift, reminding you to be fully here, in the now. Any physical anchor could help you embody a new flow. Change shoes. Rearrange furniture. Get a vastly different haircut. Look for change that signifies a specific direction. Random changes won’t help as much as deliberate, symbolic gestures. The simple shift of back and hips put me in touch with my magnetic self. As I record albums for my artists, it’s my job to connect to magnetism that draws love and attention to their wonderful songs. As I write this article, I shift into that space, drawing you closer to your highest path. Now – how will you step out of the past, and anchor your next move? Email RubiconArtistDevelopment@gmail.com to share ways you’ve created space for your next chapter. (Maybe you’ll see it here!) Daniel Barrett is CEO and Chief Producer at Rubicon Artist Development, a world-class recording studio featuring a yearlong holistic musical development program, and coauthor, with Joe Vitale, of The Remembering Process. Through the Hourglass

Blind acupuncturists , the death pulse, and Hourglass Nebula by Sensei Brian Neill Ponder the image of the Hourglass Nebula, provided from deep space by the Hubble telescope. This particular image has greater meaning than a beautiful picture from space – it contains a deeper mystery, and spiritual teachings. The first time I saw this image was not a picture of the nebula, but when my sensei from Japan drew two concentric circles on a blackboard to teach a deeper truth about acupuncture. I traveled all the way to Kyoto, Japan to learn this, from teachers who are blind acupuncturists. Think about this for a moment – blind acupuncturists from Japan teaching this image, which can be felt in the fingertips when reading the pulses of acupuncture patients. Those without sight are giving us an image of something inside a human being, and heaven has given us a duplicate in the image of the Hourglass Nebula. There’s a sense of awe and wonder when you look upon this image, because it truly does exist inside each and every one of us. I feel this picture, and see it in my mind’s

eye, reading a client’s pulses to diagnose them. This image is taught to students in the Hill Country Hari Society who are learning pulse diagnosis: • The bottom circle is Yin Qi. • The top circle is Yang Qi. • The eye in the middle represents communication, or life force. In Japanese acupuncture, it’s called Stomach Ki.

The sacred mirror.

Isn’t that awesome? A spiritual teaching of how outer and inner space are sacred mirrors of each other gives you a sense of wonder. There are more esoteric teachings about acupuncture, the art of pulse diagnosis, and the image of the nebula. When feeling patients’ pulses, there have been a few rare times of feeling these circles come apart. The hollow and emptiness between the two circles is taught in Japanese acupuncture to be the separation of Yin and Yang. It’s a bad omen – the death pulse. The first time I felt a death pulse was the day before my grandfather passed away. It was his last great teaching about the body, and how we’re all between Heaven and Earth. My sensei felt this death pulse on a young man in his clinic, and then later heard a story of how the patient died in a car wreck after leaving his clinic. He once felt a death pulse on a teenaged client who took their own life, and it pained him to learn this lesson of the death pulse in such a dramatic way. We spend so much time trying to convince the world of the medical validity of acupuncture that we forget the beautiful and mystical side of this ancient and benevolent art. I hope this teaching inspires you, knowing the cosmos revealed to humanity the Hourglass Nebula, and I’m honored to share its deeper meaning. There are many people who are practicing the more spiritual art of acupuncture. Give them a chance to make your communication between Heaven and Earth stronger – and may the benevolent art of acupuncture reveal greater spiritual truth to you. Brian Neill is Founder and President of the Hill Country Hari Society and a graduate of AOMA. Austin Hari Clinic provides Japanese acupuncture, using non-invasive touch needling. THAI ME UP

Table Thai: Massage, yoga, dance… all of the above? receiver. “Teaching Table Thai massage focuses mainly on coming from the hara – the center – and the heart, and fine tuning body placement and angles to get the most efficient power, without force, to create the dance-like quality of this work.” She went to Thailand specifically to learn these elements. “I knew my Thai massage could improve immensely from this knowledge, so I learned from the beginning again, to clean up any bad habits I’d developed. I studied, scrutinized my Asian teachers, asked questions, and took notes. I also took advanced courses, so I can offer advanced training in the future.” Draw a line up from Indonesia to the center of China, and another to the center of India. Connect them – at the center of the triangle is Thailand. Thai culture is one of the most diverse and cosmopolitan in all of Asia, a mixture of Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian, and even European influences in everything from cuisine to fashion to traditional healing. The signature form of bodywork in Thailand is also a cultural blend, a graceful, flowing form of massage that looks like a fusion of massage and a two-person yoga session. The recipient, dressed in loose, comfortable clothing, lies on a mat or a firm mattress on the floor, and the therapist uses a combination of hands, feet, and forearms to stabilize the body, massage it in fixed positions and flowing movements, and gently stretch the body into yoga-like positions. It’s like getting a massage and doing yoga at the same time – except you don’t have to do anything, except relax and enjoy it. Doesn’t get much better than that – or does it?

Kimberly Sibilla is a massage therapist who blends elements of deep tissue, shiatsu, lomi-lomi, and Thai massage, and an instructor of kundalini yoga and Qi Gong. Holly Ferguson is an herbalist and massage therapist specializing in Thai massage. Both offer Thai sessions, and their Table Thai course, August 2-3 or September 27-28, requires no previous experience. Participants learn a ninety-minute Thai Table session. Licensed massage therapists receive twelve CEU credits. (512) 771-6421 AustinTotallyThai@gmail.com

Tabling the motion.

Maybe so, especially if you’re the massage therapist. Kimberly Sibilla learned Thai massage in the West, and although her teachers were great, she felt it lacked some finetuning. “Traditional Thai massage is fluid and dance-like, but since it’s done on the floor, it requires a practitioner to have a strong core and non-injured knees, and be able to know what it feels like to work from the center, the hara.” Sitting on the knees can be challenging for some Western massage therapists, she points out, and coupled with the up and down movements transitioning from one move to the next, it can take a bit longer to learn to execute the massage with a fluid, dance-like quality. Her solution? Adapt the techniques and graceful flow of a Thai session to a massage table. “Table Thai massage is simplified but still very profound, and there’s an element of effortlessness and ease to this version, since the up and down movements have more leverage coming from the higher level of the massage table.” There’s a stillness that permeates a session, a flowing, meditative quality that’s as healing for the giver as it is for the

by Michael Abedin You’re holistic, you’re natural, you make informed decisions about staying healthy and happy. Now you’re looking for a dentist. Feeling a little challenged? You’ve got options. You could decide you’re simply going to manifest healthy teeth and do away with dental care altogether, visualizing yourself with a mouthful of pearly whites and swishing tea tree oil around in your mouth when your teeth or gums start to hurt. This is a two-step approach, though – step two is manifesting a job with a really good dental treatment plan, so when things start hurting and don’t stop, you’re well equipped to deal with the new eco-system springing up in your mouth. The other option is to find a dentist who shares your values, gives you information you need to make an educated decision, and respects your point of view. (Your perfect fantasy dentist might even have a Naturopathic Doctor on staff.) Problem is, most dentists aren’t trained that way. If they want to move beyond the mainstream gospel of dentistry, they have to make the same decision you’ve made – adopt a whole new philosophy of dental care.

Transcending Dentalism.

14

Transcendental dental care doesn’t mean folding yourself into a lotus posture and meditating in the dentist’s chair – although that might be cool, as long as you don’t levitate while you’re getting your teeth cleaned. (Throws the hygienist off.) Holistic dentistry can mean a lot of different things, including eliminating pre-Civil War procedures like mercury-laced amalgam fillings. A truly holistic approach takes into account the fact that a trip to the dentist can be an emotional experience, especially if you’re of the holistic persuasion and are used to taking responsibility for your own health. Biological dentist Dr. Matthew Carpenter of (get ready – you’ll love this) Transcend Dental Health explains it well. “Our purpose is to help people achieve the highest level of well-being that’s personally appropriate for them, and enhance the health and quality of their lives – as well as our own.” His team’s approach, he says, is to help you to become as healthy and youthful as you choose to be, instead of how healthy anyone says you ought to be. (And, yes, they have a Naturopathic Doctor, Melissa Russ, on staff to help you understand your choices and provide supportive healthcare.) Choosing a holistic dental path is a real paradigm-buster, however, for both you and your dentist. The most obvious first decision for most folks is to keep the second most deadly neurotoxin on the planet from having a semi-permanent home a few inches from your brain. Unless the nuke industry comes up with a plutonium filling, you probably couldn’t find a worse choice than mercury to use in the combination of metals that

make up the amalgam metal fillings (euphemistically dubbed silver fillings) that have been around since dentistry was a sideline for tinkers, barbers, and blacksmiths. Since it’s a liquid at room temperature, it was an easy way to make a paste out of the conglomeration of tin, copper, old horseshoes, bullet fragments, or whatever else went into early fillings. It was also a whole lot cheaper than silver or gold. Problem is, mercury amalgam fillings have been around long enough that if the old paradigm of Dentalism were a religion, mercury might well be what’s in its communion cup – and the American Dental Association is about as quick to make radical changes as, say, the Vatican. It’s also about as invested in the status quo. Even though an FDA advisory panel tactfully suggested a few years ago that maybe it’s not a good idea for women (especially pregnant women) and young children to be exposed to mercury in amalgam, no action was taken by the FDA or the ADA. Since the potential for class-action lawsuits could make tobacco settlements look like chump change, don’t look for any startling reversals of policy any time soon.

The lowdown.

With no help from either of the DA’s, the responsibility for making educated decisions about healthcare procedures is, as always, yours – and your best bet is to find practitioners who’ll give you information and support to make those decisions, and have the tools. That last part, the tools, is important – but your first step, if you decide to get the mercury out of your head, is to ask your holistic dentist of choice to do it. Don’t ask if you should do it, because the ADA has a clause in its code of ethics that makes it risky business for a dentist to tell you flat out what anyone with common sense would know – mercury is toxic, and you’d probably be a whole lot better off without it in your body. Next step, if you have questions, is to ask for educational material. Here are a few juicy tidbits from two excellent videos at www.youputwhatinmymouth.com, courtesy of Dr. Carpenter: • Amalgam usage has decreased, but in the US, dentistry is still the second largest user of elemental mercury, releasing about thirty-two tons of mercury into the environment each year. • Mercury is bioaccumulating in the American population. One in six women has high levels of mercury, which can cross the placental border and has been shown to cause neurological damage to a developing fetus. This means, on average, 300,000 babies are born every year with the potential for neurological disease. • OSHA will evacuate a school if the nurse breaks a thermometer, but one amalgam filling contains roughly the same amount of mercury as that thermometer – about the size of a sharpened pencil lead. • Containers used to mix amalgam contain up to 900 milligrams of elemental mercury and release thousands of micrograms many times a day when they’re heated. Used containers are discarded, usually going to landfills. • You can swallow mercury when fillings are placed (or when they’re removed) if proper precautions aren’t

taken. What’s suctioned out goes into public water supplies, where it’s filtered into sludge dumped into landfills or incinerators – or used as fertilizer. • Chewing, and grinding your teeth, can create mercury vapor. Even if you’re dead, though, you can still make a contribution. Crematoriums have no outgassing regulations – or filtration systems.

Letting your dentist off the hook.

Before you start cussing at your dentist for not telling you all this, keep in mind that dental students are taught that mercury in amalgam fillings is completely harmless and inert, and are given no information about the dangers of mercury to their patients. Or to themselves, for that matter – levels of mercury in dental operators when amalgam fillings are removed can exceed three thousand times what OSHA considers safe levels for humans, so even well-meaning mercury-free dentists can run a bigger health risk than their patients if they don’t use proper precautions. Dr. Carpenter recommends sophisticated, state of the art filtration systems for both air and water when toxic metals are removed from your teeth, so toxins don’t go into the environment – or back into your own physical environment. He’s chosen an integrative (and innovative) approach that combines dentistry and naturopathic medicine, and provides mercury and heavy metal testing, biocompatible replacement material, food allergy and hormone testing, toxicity analysis, chelation therapy, applied kinesiology, and homeopathic and nutritional therapy – even taking into account the impact of emotional stress on toxicity and healing. Everything you eat, drink, or breathe enters your body through your mouth, and whatever’s going on in your mouth – bacteria, plaque, inflammation – is going on in the rest of the body. Makes sense, then, that if you’re wanting truly holistic health care, you need to give a whole lot of thought to the most hole-istic part you have. Yep. Your pie hole. Transcend Dental Health, with Dr. Matt Carpenter and Melissa Russ, ND, offers a full range of holistic dentistry and supportive natural healthcare. 7215 Wyoming Springs, Bldg. 3, Ste. 800, in Round Rock. by Nerissa Oden Everybody knows what a dip is. It’s a side dish served in a bowl, thin enough for dunking chips, vegetables, sandwiches, or pizza into. Most dips are dairy based, which is a cause of concern for persons with dairy allergies or sensitivities – not to mention practically everyone who’s watching their weight. Cheese is the most popular ingredient in dips, and is full of fat. Most vegetable dips, in fact, are just dairy dips with vegetables. To avoid dairy dips, prepare dips based on beans, nuts, meats, or pure vegetables or fruits. Traditional beans, nuts, and guacamole dips are considered to be high in carbs and fat. Store-bought brands often contain unhealthy fats, sugars, even dairy. So which dips can you eat if you’re watching your weight? Homemade salsas and purees based on tomatoes come to mind. Interestingly, however, tomatoes are also a food sensitivity for many, although less common than dairy. So if you ignore dairy, beans, avocados and tomatoes, what dips are left? Plenty. You’re only limited by your imagination. To kickstart yours, simply use the three-ingredient concept.

A base, a flavor, and an accent.

For your base ingredient, use steamed or raw vegetables, steamed chicken, turkey, or fish, lower carb beans, or soaked nuts and seeds. Then add flavor or texture by combining other vegetables, fruits. Accent your dip with fresh or dehydrated spices. It’s really that simple. Here are a few combinations to get your mouth watering: • Sweet orange apple mint chicken, with cloves. • Black bean, with toasted garlic and serrano pepper. • Steamed onion and soaked cashews, with toasted pine nuts and cayenne pepper. • Chickpeas with toasted red pepper, garlic, and cumin. • Sunflower butter with garlic, ginger, and chili pepper.

You’ll want to use a blender.

Personal blenders like the Magic Bullet and Nutribullet are fantastic tools for making homemade dips. To make your skinny dip even skinnier, just upgrade from deep-fried chips to fresh and dehydrated vegetables and fruits. ENCHANTMENT THE PLACE OF

by Bruce P. Grether

Instead of driving from downtown Wimberley, I decide to hike along the nature trail to the Blue Hole Regional Park. Just a few steps from the Square of the village, you descend into the green mansions of an emerald forest. The path winds along roughly parallel to Cypress Creek. Here you enter an enchanted realm unlike the semi-arid hillsides of the Hill Country. Lush canopies high overhead provide deep shade, and cast shimmering golden coins of sunlight. As I stroll toward Blue Hole, it’s easy to feel enchanted. But what about that fast-paced, stressful, high-tech world where most of us live most of the time? In such demanding circumstances, it’s often easier to feel disenchanted, and to wonder – Where is the Real Magick of life these days? We can always seek out enchanted places of natural beauty or special mystique. Only it’s not always easy to find such a place, or to go there to recharge your “enthusiasm batteries.” So what’s the place of enchantment in your life? Restore that mysterious yet crucial sense of wonder and awe. Remember the miraculous nature of every feature of your everyday life. Look past the assumptions that you know what’s going on, that you know where things come from, that you know what it all means. The truth is, nobody knows any of these things!

My own quest led me to explore the nature of stardust, that rare and yet necessary substance of complex atoms that comprises ninety percent of the human body. I’ve studied the physics of the matter that composes me, you, and our planet. From this study I derived the Periodic Table of Evolution and the Stardust Tarot – powerful tools for self-awareness and to observe life on this planet, in this Universe. You can see this where you are now. Look at your hand, which is also stardust. Observe its exquisite design and function, acknowledge its mystery, and then place it upon your chest to feel the deep mystery of your beating heart. That’s the place of enchantment – and what you feel is the Real Magick! Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Dr. Joe Dispenza What if, before you got out of bed and began your day, you took the time to ask yourself one simple question? “What is the greatest ideal of myself that I can be today?” If you were patient enough to wait for an answer, you’d begin to think differently than if you just woke up and remembered yourself as the same person from the day before. If you waken in the morning, get out of bed on the same side, turn off your alarm clock the same way, use the toilet as always, look in the mirror to remember who you are, shower the same way, groom and dress yourself to look like everyone expects to see you, eat the same food for breakfast, drive to work as usual, see the same people that push the same emotional buttons, and do the same memorized things you know how to do so well, your mind and your brain would remain virtually unchanged. A common principle in neuroscience says, “Nerve cells that fire together, wire together.” If you repeatedly think and act in identical ways on a daily basis, your brain becomes molded into a specific hardwired pattern that supports the same level of mind.

Change your brain, change your mind.

It’s ironic. Most people routinely think the same thoughts, perform the same actions, and secretly expect something different to show up in their lives. If, however, you sincerely think about a greater ideal of yourself before you start your day, you begin to make your brain fire in new sequences, patterns, and combinations. And whenever you make your brain work differently – you just changed your mind. If you committed to not arising to face the day until you actually felt like that new ideal, you’d also be conditioning the body to work together with your new mind. Your thoughts condition your mind and your feelings condition your body. And when you have mind and body working together, you have the power of the universe behind you. When you walk through your life that day, maintaining this modified state, something should be different in your world as a result of your effort. How do you stay in

CONSTANT CREATIVITY MODE? by Bart Sharp Being in touch with your creative powers is a juggling act. Some days it’s abundant, other times it seems non-existent. Why would creativity be sparking for some and not for others? A few ideas to keep your creative juices flowing: • Stay as present as you can in the moment. Thinking about the past or future tense is living in the past or future tense, and is not where the heart of creativity exists. Exercises to stay grounded (see www.bartsharp. com) are always good. • If something bothers you, find the root of it, resolve it, be complete with it. Nothing stops the flow more than emotional obstacles. Creativity flourishes in feeling whole within. • If you dread something, don’t postpone it – deal with it. Procrastination is a killer of creativity. • Listen – with more than just your ears. The world’s ready to give you the inspirations you’re ready to receive. One of the best tools for listening is your heart, quietly observing all life. • Stay curious. Nothing’s good or bad – live without judgment. • Cats, animals, nature, children, and other unintentional sources are great teachers. • You never know it all – give up being the authority. It’s a huge weight to bear, and generally narrows your perception and your ability to see the bigger picture. • Create for the joy it brings you, first and foremost. Worries and judgments – is it any good, what will others think about it, will it make you money – often shrink you. These concerns resolve themselves in time if you honor the source that empowers you. Enjoy the experience.

The energy of creativity.

The creative experience has an energetic feeling. When you fine-tune the specific way it resonates with you, it’s easier to tap into its power. Writing has a different energy than painting, gardening, or dancing. Each has its own specific vibration, and what you bring to each creative outlet is unique and individually yours. Learn what it feels like inside yourself when you’re connected to the creative magic of an activity, and then it’s easier to train yourself to tap into that energy anytime you wish and enjoy yourself – and life! Bart Sharp is an intuitive counselor, healer, and author specializing in transformation of traumatic and emotion based limitations. Therapy for the Body, Mind and Spirit. Dear Ashtara:

Messages from Your Angels and Master Teachers Dear Ashtara, I’m struggling with finding work to make ends meet and finding peace in my life. What should I do to find a successful career and let go of my past? Also, who are my angels? Erin, 20, San Marcos TX Dear Erin, When you were born, God asked you to become a family practitioner, such as M.D., psychologist, counselor, or trainer. Of course, all that takes being educated. You could try your hand at real estate. Therefore, you could begin to work your way through school. You’re supposed to be affluent in this lifetime. The time is now to decide on your Path. May the FORCE be with you. Your teachers are Lord Maitreya and Melchizedek. Your angels are Raphael and Gabriel. Dear Ashtara, I’m a young female. I can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong with me physically. Comprehensive blood work says I’m fine but my hair is about half as thick as it once was, I have joint pain, fatigue, and attention problems that have to be remedied with medication, and also gastrointestinal problems. Recent changes include that I was a vegetarian for seven years, a pescetarian for one year, and I abruptly began eating meat six months ago. Am I causing my problems by worrying or is something going on that’s not properly diagnosed? What can I do to feel better? Lecia, 24, Austin TX

24

Dear Lecia, It looks like you have a pulmonary ulnar artery condition. When you were one year old it started to creep in, causing heart trouble, at this point it is probably a minor heart palpitation. The palmar arch in the left hand is not getting enough clean oxygen, causing your joints to ache. Allow your angel Raphael to give you a detailed cleanse for approximately one year and you will be well. It also looks like you

have been bulimic and your hair is falling out because of that condition. Treat yourself kindly. Carrot juice daily will help. You do not have ADD, however, your attention has been focused on loosing pounds for so many years that it is difficult to place your attention on other things. As far as a gastrointestinal condition, it seems that from time to time you have a severe case of colitis. What you need to do is again drink a lot of carrot juice while eating mainly raw food. In the matter of eight months, your condition will have improved greatly. Keep this cleanse going and in six more months you will be healed totally. The fact that you abruptly began eating meat has nothing to do with any of these conditions. The moral to your problems is to quit throwing up. Dear Ashtara, I’ve never known love in my life, and my career is deadended in near poverty. I feel as if I am just waiting to die. What advice can you give me on what is meant for me and how do I handle this grief? Steve, 57, Austin, TX Dear Steve, When you were birthed from the King Melchizedek, you said to him that you were going to be a chemist along with a medical doctor. Architecture is also an avenue for you. Love will find you with enough online searching. Your life is not over and neither is your work. For example, one day you will be in a construction business that will change your mind about lack in your life. So hold on, this too will pass! May the FORCE be with you. Your guardian angel is Archangel Metatron.

Private Sessions can be scheduled (in person or phone) that include psychic, medical, profound healings, questions answered and more. Ashtara/Sasha is a ‘gifted’ psychic, healer, and channel from the Ascended Masters/Archangels. She is also a Reiki Master Teacher, Sound Current Healing Master Teacher, mystic, profound speaker and minister. She speaks the second Thursday of each month at the Healing Light Center. See her events at www.AshtaraSashaWhite.com. Call (512) 278-0559 or email Ashtara@SashaWhite.com to submit your question for ‘Dear Ashtara’ (10 to 20 words) with name, age, city and state.

Why I Love Being

Wrong

by HeatherAsh Amara

I love it when I’m wrong. I used to do everything I could to be right, and avoid being wrong. Now I’ll clap my hands when I discover a misperception and tell people, “I’m wrong. I love it when I’m wrong! And I truly mean it. Here’s how you, too, can be excited about being wrong. And why you would want to celebrate your mistakes. It’s a major assumption that many of us make that in order to be liked, respected, safe, or “good we always need to be right. This primary assumption then solidifies into an agreement, a contract with ourselves to be perfect. And trying to be perfect is only a perfect set up for suffering. And stress. And struggle.

Treasure hunt.

• What if you didn’t assume that that you had to always be right, or defend yourself? • What if you actually giggled when you were wrong, instead of judging yourself? • What if you got excited when you discovered you made an assumption? It’s probably easy to slip into judging yourself when you make a mistake or are wrong. But every conscious mistake or incorrect perception can be the start of an inner treasure hunt to discover what assumption preceded it, and what beliefs are causing you to not be in the present moment. Say “Yay! I made a mistake!â€? and then learn from your behavior. Explore what might have happened if you had not made that assumption. Then get curious about why you made the assumption in the first place. In this way you’ll rewire your behavioral patterns and, like me, get excited when you make a mistake. The Living in the Past Remedy

Bach Chronicles, Part Seventeen

In the 1930’s, English physician Edward Bach created a series of thirty-six flower remedies, prepared from plants found in his native England, to address underlying mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of physical disease. This is part of an ongoing series describing those remedies. by Michael Abedin

Probably lotsa good memories rolling around back there in the dusty corners of your brain huh? Christmas mornings, birthdays, New Year’s Eve parties. (Okay, the parties may not be real clear.) Chances are good, though, that some of the best ones revolve around summertime. Summers are vacations, no school, lakes, backyard baseball, barbecues, lazy afternoons at the pool trying to work up the nerve to talk to that good-lookin’ lifeguard. They’re drive-ins and big ol’ juicy cheeseburgers and fries, back before someone told you they were bad for you. They’re cool cars and good tunes on the radio, maybe even Top 40 on the AM with real disc jockeys that talked real fast. Summers are golden and filled with opportunity, especially in June. You’re tan and strong, you feel good, and the world feels good. Remember?

Doesn’t get any better, does it?

If it doesn’t – if nothing has ever seemed quite so good as those times past, no matter how much you’ve tried – it ain’t Miller time, or Bud, or whatever they’re drinking in the commercial where it doesn’t get any better. (Scary thought.) It’s Honeysuckle time, the flower remedy created by

Edward Bach for nostalgia and homesickness – for living in the past, in the good old days. Even if they really weren’t all that good, they’ve grown into something cool in your memories, and now, often as not, that’s mostly what you think or talk about. Maybe it was that good, and you thought it would last forever, and it didn’t. Regret is the thief that steals all the happiness out of what is, when it’s not what it was or could have been. Honeysuckle is the coulda shoulda woulda remedy – lost opportunities, lost youth, lost love – the chance you didn’t take, the person you could’ve been happy with but never had the nerve to ask.

Glory days.

They’ll pass you by, as Springsteen says, in the wink of a young girl’s eye. If you try to measure everything against them, you’re gonna wind up unhappy – and if you try to return to them, they’re hardly ever the same. Let ‘em live as memories, take the lessons you learned, and leverage yourself a better now. That said, if you wanna buy that vintage ‘Vette or Mustang, go for it – and if you wanna cruise through South Austin with Boys of Summer blaring in the speakers and bitch about all the condos, by all means do that as well – but it won’t bring back the Armadillo.

“It’ll be better next time.” (Sign over the exit of the Texas Chili Parlor – or was it the Raw Deal?)

Should you catch yourself consistently wanting to start over, maybe even relocate to the next lifetime or back to one of those cool past lives when you were a king or princess or a magical healer or whatever, suck a little Honeysuckle. As for homesickness, here’s a friendly piece of advice. If you moved to Austin from somewhere else and keep whining about how coffee’s not as good here as Seattle, bagels aren’t as good as New York, beer’s not as good as Portland (or anything’s not as good as LA) Honeysuckle would work best as a secondary support remedy, combined with a one-way ticket back to wherever you came from – so you can get whatever it is you miss, anytime you want it.
