Professor Amanda Third (PhD) is Professorial Research Fellow and Co-Director of the Young and Resilient Research Centre in the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University and Faculty Associate in the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard. An international expert in youthcentred, participatory research, Amanda’s work investigates children's and young people’s crossplatform technology practices. She has led projects in over 80 countries, with partners across corporate, government and not-for-profit sectors, and supported by youth co-researchers, with the aim of channelling youthcentred research into international policy and practice efforts.

Lauren Hale, PhD, is a Professor of Family, Population, and Preventive Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of Sleep Health. Dr. Hale’s research explores how sleep varies across populations, with a focus on the social and contextual factors influencing sleep health. Her work has been instrumental in uncovering the ways digital media use affects sleep, particularly among children and adolescents.

Dr Dimitri A Christakis + Q&A

Dr. Dimitri A. Christakis is a principal investigator under the Center for Child Health, Behavior and Development at Seattle Children's Research Institute and the chief health officer for Special Olympics International. He is the author of more than 170 original research articles, a textbook of pediatrics, and co-authored a groundbreaking book, The Elephant in the Living Room: Make Television Work for Your Kids.

In addition to his research, Christakis is a pediatrician at Seattle Children's Hospital in Seattle and a professor in the School of Medicine at University of Washington. He has devoted his career to investigating how early experiences impact children and to helping parents improve their children's early learning environments. He and his colleagues in the Christakis Lab have made a number of landmark findings, including discovering that young children who watch TV are more likely to develop attention problems and other health and behavioral issues.
