Greetings everyone! It has been a while since we had our last Worldwide Balikbayan Games. Now we are back after 3 years of pandemic. I am so happy to welcome all the participants, majority are my friends worldwide and balikbayan bowlers who continue to support this event.

the new bowlers who will be joining us this year, you are most welcome. May the year that is about to come bring prosperity, accomplished wishes, achieved dreams and peace to all.

On behalf of the retired UFTBR members who are now enjoying their retirement lives here back home, we would like to welcome all delegates for the upcoming 2022 Worldwide Balikbayan Bowling tournament to be hosted by the United Filipino Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR). This would be another chance for us to meet and play again with our former bowl mates from Riyadh and other bowling enthusiast participants from all over the world.

Best wishes to all and looking forward to our continuous interactions not only in the field of bowling but through some other social activities in order to maintain continuous friendship, camaraderie, much fun and enjoyment. We wish you all a wonderful Christmas and may the coming New Year be full of many blessings for you and your family.

After three years hiatus due to the pandemic, “We are back”. We, as the organizers of this prestigious and much anticipated annual bowling event are really enthusiastic and we hope you our participants are very much eager to once again showcase your bowling ability against fellow Filipino bowlers from all over the globe.

This souvenir magazine is the first one for the event and really gives us the chance to express how much we value your support and participation to this annual bowling tournament. TOURNAMENT RULES AND REGULATIONS

Date and Venue:

o December 27 & 28, 2022

o Sta. Lucia Bowling Center, Sta. Lucia Mall, Cainta, Rizal

Event Host:

o Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR)

Eligibility to Play:

o Current and former OFW’s

o Balikbayans permanently residing abroad

o Balikbayans or OFW’s who were members of Philippine National Team or National Bowlers Pool and has been inactive for the last 3 years

o Players must show proof by bringing their passport showing date of arrival during registration

Handicapping:

o Bowlers (Men/Ladies) 60 Years old and above 5

o Lady Bowlers:

Rated Lady Bowlers 8

Non Rated Lady Bowlers 15

Games Schedule

o Dec 27 Qualifying 1st Squad, 9:15 AM Shadow Ball, 9:30 AM Roll Off / Registration will start at 8:30 AM

o Dec 27 Qualifying 2nd Squad, 1:15 PM Shadow Ball, 1:30 PM Roll Off / Registration will start at 12:00 noon

o Dec 28 Qualifying 3rd Squad, 9:15 AM Shadow Ball, 9:30 AM Roll Off / Registration will start at 8:30 AM

o Dec 28 Semi Finals 1:15 PM Shadow Ball 1:30 PM Roll Off / Finals will proceed immediately after the semi finals results are tabulated

o Awarding right after the finals once results are finalized

Games Format Qualifying

o One Qualifying entry is 4 games series

o Bowlers may qualify by playing in any of the scheduled qualifying squads

o Only one qualifying entry is needed

o A bowler may replace his/her qualifying entry by playing in the next succeeding qualifying squads

o Lane distribution on each qualifying squad will depend on the number of participants (probably 2 or 3 players per lane)

o Lane assignment will be electronically drawn

o Lane movement is “Left to Left / Right to Right” after 2 games

o Approximately 40% of participants will advance to the Semi Final round

Games Format Semi Finals / Finals

o The semi finals will be a six games series

o Lane assignment will be electronically drawn

o Lane movement will be “Left to Left / Right to Right” after 2 games

o Top five bowlers in the semi final round will advance to the final round step ladder matches with the top one bowler having a “twice to beat” advantage

o First Round Final Games 3rd, 4th and 5th placers from the semi finals will play one knock out game

o Second Round Final Games Winner of First Round Games will play against 2nd placer from semi finals, one knock out game

o Third Round Final Games Winner of Second Round Games will play against the top semi finalist, two games if the second round winner beats the top semi finalist in the first game

o Finals games will be played right after the semi finals, no re oiling and lane re conditioning will be done

Registration Fee

o Qualifying PHP6,500 for the initial entry block and PHP3,000 for each repeat block.

o Semi Finals PHP1,500 for each Semi Finals qualifier

o Early Bird / Advance Reservation

One Block PHP6,000 / Two Blocks PHP8,000

Registration must be paid on or before 30 Nov 2022

Advance registration payment is non refundable but may be transferred to another bowler qualified to play if the registered bowler is not able to play for valid reasons

The name of the bowler who will register/pay in advance will be listed in the souvenir magazine

Worldwide Balikbayan Bowling Tournament, a Brief History

This special tournament which is held every December was organized at the initiative of the three bowling organizations from Saudi Arabia, namely Unified Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Riyadh (UFTBR), Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah (FTBJ) and Filbowlers (bowlers from the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia). The main objective is to gather Filipino OFW bowlers who are on vacation usually during the holiday season and celebrate the friendship and camaraderie in the bowling lanes thru a special bowling event. The first official tournament was held in 2007 and it continued annually.

Hosting of the event was assigned alternatively between the three bowling organizations. During the initial years, participation was limited to OFW’s mostly from the Middle East where there are many Filipino active bowling aficionados.

In the 2012 Tournament hosted by UFTBR, the participation was extended to include Balikbayans (bowlers who are permanently residing in other countries and are in vacation in the month of December). This was done in order to increase the number of participants and also to reach out to Filipino bowlers from Europe, USA and other Asian countries. This was a milestone as far as the annual event is concerned as it was evident that there are many Filipino bowlers from other countries who are just as eager and excited to play, meet, and have fun with fellow Filipino bowlers while playing this game which we all love.

A complete list of past champions from 2007 to 2019 is shown in the following page. The event was not held in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid 19 Pandemic.

There were only two bowlers who achieved the perfect game of 300 in the past 13 years of the annual event.
