DIF2019 PROGRAM

DIF reaches out across all Victorian Government departments, fostering interdepartmental collaboration and demonstrating how digital innovation can address challenges and transform government services.

In 2019 the DIF team engaged broadly across government, to leverage existing investments and create a cohesive narrative around digital innovation and the benefits of joined up government.

Individuals from across Victorian government attended and spoke at many DIF events. Victoria’s Lead Scientist Dr Amanda Caples, deserves special recognition as a DIF Champion who played a significant role in promoting awareness of the value of STEM and innovation throughout the Festival.

Several government agencies and departments contributed to the delivery and success DIF2019, including:

Agriculture Victoria was actively involved in demonstrating the use of tech on farms across several regional and rural locations. Focusing on food innovation, two major new events, Global Table and Seeds and Chips, were part of the Festival with cross promotion.

Business Victoria continued to support DIF and promote through their digital channels with feature articles on digital tech, open innovation and the future of work for SMEs. Small Business Festivals continued locally in Geelong and Ballarat and funding was also provided to Bendigo Invention and Innovation Festival.

Creative Victoria and JIBE partnered to support the YouTube Creators program enabling women in regional Victoria to develop online content creation in Swan Hill as part of the Mallee Digital Innovation Festival.

Global Victoria’s international network of Victorian Government trade and Investment Offices provided support to international delegates participating in the Global Tech Leaders Dialogue. The Deputy Commissioner for Southeast Asia arranging a Malaysian trade mission to attend DIF and the iAwards.

LaunchVic hosted the DIF Hub at the Goods Shed North and for the third year delivered Yeah Nah, its flagship event for the startup and entrepreneur community. CivicLabs launched the first Civic Tech Meetup and the DIF Hub livestreamed and recorded the event to extend the reach to local government.

Regional Development Victoria worked with the DIF team to engage with the nine regional partnerships with support from the digital marketing promotion.

Department of Education and Training partnered with DIF for the successful, inaugural delivery of the DIF Back to School program which saw tech industry professionals visit schools and speak to students, teachers and parents.

Department of Premier and Cabinet hosted a meeting of State and National CIOs, a Roundtable discussion on sharing data attended by representatives of local and international governments and Chief Data Office, Julian Hebden delivered the keynote to the inaugural North West Data Analytics Forum in Moonee Ponds.
