- Melissa Hoole As I sat, listening to the rain falling on that November evening after a very dry start to the new season, I found that my heart was moved to reflect on what took place during my teaching day. Waking up, ready to tackle yet another busy day, I did not see the miracle that God was busy preparing. The day started off as normal, the exams were written and learning was in progress. After break the unbearable heat caused my heart to long for rain. The rain that would saturate our earth and bring back the fruitfulness that this country once knew.
Sitting opposite me, feeling tired and drained were my 16 grade two’s. During this year, I had the privilege of daily teaching them about faith. Believing for sore tummies to be healed, for God to come through for their mommy and daddy’s in rough times and to just be a comfort on a sad day, well I’ll be honest, I thought, I was teaching them! I decided in this moment that it’s time for us to respond to the cry for rain! I proceeded to explain to them that the farmers are having a hard time without the rain. As they intensely listened they agreed that we should pray. Playing the song “Let it rain, open the flood gates of heaven”, encouraging them to make this their prayer. They closed their eyes and I watched as they believed with everything they had that God was going to open the flood gates. Once the song was finished we carried on with the day’s tasks keeping the hope that God heard us. During our cell that evening, the very thing they had prayed for had begun to happen. It was while I stood and watched the rain fall from the sky, that I realised, how many times I went to school for a normal day, yet walked away having learnt something as simple as childlike faith. Faith to a child means there is no limit, no restriction and no doubt! So take a measure of their faith and trust God with your whole life!
