Piano’s IBM Pavilion Study workshop led by Adrien Quaglia

ENSA Paris-Malaquais 2021 Workshop led by Professors Adrien Quaglia

The goal of this exercise was to understand by doing, and to share by exhibiting. The aim is to reproduce an existing pavilion, in part or on a reduced scale, by making elements and assembling them. The relationship between the element and the whole, between detail and final form, between uniqueness and repetition are questioned at each step.

«I was born into the world of construction. My father was a builder. I grew up never differentiating between form and construc- tion.» Renzo Piano 2012

During this workshop I was able to construct with two friends a 1 to 1 model of a part of the pavilion. It was very important for me because it allowed me to go further than ever in the understanding of a structure, I could learn what was the purpose of every single element of this pavilion by dissecting it. I learned to never think anything without a direct link to its functioning.
