Using stunning rural backroads, passing through beautiful mountain villages and staying overnight en-route, this is the single best and most adventurous way to get between two of Northern Thailand’s iconic destinations. DESTINATION JUNGLE SURVIVAL - PAI ADVENTURES You will cut your way in to the jungle following minimal trails if any at all. You will help find a suitable campsite for the night where you will receive instructions on creating a shelter from your natural surroundings (if it is the rainy season we may take additional items to keep you dry during the night). If there is enough daylight your guide may show you some tracking tips, traps, and hunting techniques (an occasional squirrel might be on the menu). He will then show you some bush-craft skills with bamboo to include boiling water and cooking. After a night in the jungle he will then lead you out of the jungle to end your second day.

DESTINATION BANGKOK TO KANCHANABURI We want to get to know the real, green jungle. On the way there we stop in Maeklong.

Here, within minutes, a colorful market turns into a railway line: the train rarely runs, so the track is full of stalls. If it arrives, the shops are dismantled in no time and the tracks are cleared for transit - a real spectacle!

Late in the morning we reach Kanchanaburi. There we change from the van into the so-called “Death Railway” and rattle first over the legendary bridge on the Kwai, then on a wonderful route and over breathtaking bridge constructions to the small town of Nam Tok. Here we climb again: this time it’s long tail boats that take us deeper and deeper into the beautiful jungle of Thailand on the River Kwai Nok. Our destination is the River Kwai Jungle Rafts.

DESTINATION KANCHANABURI TO PRAN BURI After breakfast, we leave the resort and head to Lao Tak Lak Floating Market located opposite the overcrowded Damnoen Saduak Market (200kms, about 3h drive). At present, this Market still preserves its way of life along the canal and over 140-year-old architecture, and the vendors are members of the community. There you will witness the traditional Thai way of life when the canals were the main transportation means of the Thai people.

Our next visit is Nang Yai Wat Khanon National Museum which provides not only an exhibition displaying the history and the making of cowhides, but also hosts performances from the Nang Yai troupe on Saturdays and Sunday. Nang Yai conservation at Wat Khanon is one of the six model communities awarded by the Asia Pacific Cultural Centre for UNESCO for its active role in preserving an intangible cultural heritage.

Back on the road again and head to our final destination for the day, Pranburi.

Located about thirty minutes south of the crowded town of Hua Hin, it is an up and coming beach area on the Gulf of Siam. Though not as popular as Hua Hin, it offers beautiful beaches, nice views and a very relaxed environment. An ideal stop to refill batteries before heading down South.

KUI BURI NATIONAL PARKELEPHANT SPOTTING Reach the national park by 14.00 and get introduced to your local ranger. All rangers come from the area and used to be farmers employed in the pineapple industry.

Their English is very limited but your guide will have no difficulties in translating their enthusiasm about the park and their numerous inhabitants. Known to be the best elephant and gaur sighting place in Thailand, it is almost 99% sure visitors will see elephants any day! Koh Kye has a unique feature which is different from other islands. It is actually a “coral graveyard”, which takes the form of a white sand dune, and just as white as an egg! A large amount of dead corals has been gathering on this dune island since Typhoon Gay attacked Chumphon in 1989. As time passes, rainwater changes the colour of the dead corals to white, creating the natural beauty of this unique island.

Koh Kye is a sanctuary of peace surrounded with coral reefs and home to a thick jungle. This is where we will set up our camp for the night. Don’t worry, there are plenty of activities waiting for you, including snorkelling in the coral reef among hundreds of colourful fish, or participating in a fun beach volley tournament while the sun sets in the background.

DESTINATION KHAO SOK NATIONAL PARK Wake up to the sound of birds singing and gibbons calling from the treetops. Have breakfast in the early morning as the mist slowly lifts itself from the mountains.

Check out and head towards the Cheow Lan Lake. Upon arrival at the Rajaprabha Dam you will board a long tail boat and head deep into a remote corner of the lake.

Surrounding you is the giant limestone cliffs, green rainforest, and bold trees rising from the water surface.

Around noon, you will arrive at the raft house, where you can check-in to your very own floating traditional Thai style bungalow. It is a basic overnight stay, but the panoramic views and the lake access is the main draw anyway. Explore the area, relax, and take a swim.

After a traditional Thai lunch you will go on an afternoon trek through the ancient jungle of Khao Sok. Depending on the season, your guide may take you through a local cave, show you edible plant species, how to find drinking water in bamboo, or how to spot wildlife in the canopy. Please wear closed shoes, suitable for trekking.

Return to the raft house in the late afternoon and enjoy a bit of free time to relax, swim and shower. As the sun sets over the lake, enjoy a Thai dinner, and the quietness of the lake; stars sparkling above and nothing but nature around you.
